This fabulous fashionista’s guide to those iconic women and their dogs; being contemporary, hand-bag sized and a stylish symbol of the token pampered pooch!

This lush, tantalizingly tempting treat is a comprehensive handbook on those iconic females who love their dogs as much as their Gucci glasses! Wide-ranging from Marilyn Monroe to Madonna this book encompasses many women from the eighteenth-century to the present day; all who share a universal love for dogs. Adorned with stunning photographs, history and anecdotes this delightful book studies the relationship between the woman and her dog(s). This book is a dog-lovers’ dream as well as a unique slice of social and fashion history, revealing the dogs chosen and adored by women over the past one hundred years. The photographs are wonderful and capture that brief, fleeting moment in which one is able to glimpse the profound depth of relationship and strong bond between a dog and its owner; therefore given the individuals in question this really is a delight to behold and something quite special!

‘Women & Dogs’ is a personal history of dog people, including: Frida Kahlo, Rita Hayworth, Sarah Jessica Parker, Radclyffe Hall, Ingrid Bergman, Janis Joplin, Edith Cavell, Maria Callas, Queen Alexandra, Enid Blyton, Joan Collins, Coco Chanel, Jilly Cooper, Audrey Hepburn, Virginia Woolf, Barbara Woodhouse, Serena Williams and Renée Zellweger to name but a few!

Alongside the celebrity are also various female monarch’s of our country including Queen Elizabeth and her Corgi’s, together with those distinctive names in the literary world such as female writers and authors…Virginia Woolf, Enid Blyton, Jilly Cooper and many others. As a dog owner myself who since childhood has been around dogs, this book was a real ‘treat’ and one that I will certainly treasure for years to come. It not only touches upon why we love dogs and why women in particular adore them (as domestic pets, status symbols or even as a fashion symbol), but it takes a personal and intimate path as to why each individual had this particular breed of dog. From the miniature Chihuahua to the colossal Great Dane, the family friendly Spaniel to the more laid back Lurchers, regardless of what breed you prefer this beautiful book comprises of many different breeds and types, and outgoing personalities to match their flamboyant owners.

This remarkable, noteworthy book with full-color photographs is an exclusive ready reference, in addition to being a jewel amongst a wide selection of books on Dogs. I would also highly recommend this as an ideal gift for the woman who ‘has everything’ and whose pet is the centre of her world!
