Cross Purposes: Dying to Get a Life

Rate this book
There are two crosses in the gospel

Today the revolutionary power of the gospel has been diluted and polluted by forms of Christianity that are shaped by prosperity theology, pop-psychology, self-help religion, and politics. The result is a church that is anemic and often indistinguishable from the world. The problem is not so much what the church is preaching, but what it is failing to the cross of Jesus! The cruciform nature of the gospel has been muffled, distorted, and ignored. There will be no reformation in the church or great awakening in the nation until cruciformity, once again, becomes the defining center of the Christian faith. Not only must the cross of Christ be rediscovered, but every believer must wake up to the reality of that second cross so clearly proclaimed in the gospel; the one where followers of Jesus deny self, renounce status, and lay down their lives for others. It is this second cross that is the special focus of this book.
