I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The story begins with a hitman waiting for his victim. He finally spots him, but he is with several people. The group dispend the victim is only with one other person. That person leaves and it is now time for the hitman to take charge. He approaches the victim and shoots him twice in the back and then 3 times in the chest.

The story then starts with Maya, Evan and their daughter getting ready to have breakfast. It is almost time for Evan to leave for work. He has now been promoted to Captain. Maya then has alone time with her daughter, Emilia, before she has a meeting with a client. Her client calls later and wants Maya there right away. After her meeting with her client, Maya returns home. Later that night after putting Emillia to bed, she receives a call that Evan has been shot. She then goes to the hospital where she learns that he is in surgery. It appears that Evan was the victim of the hitman.

Maya learns that the hitman has been caught and she then talks to Michael, Evan's friend who works in the D.A,'s office and lets him know she wants to help prosecute the shooter. Later, Maya discovers that Evan has been looking into her parent's death which has Maya thinking that that is the reason that Evan was shot.

Follow along in the rest of the story as Maya, Johnny her investigator and Michael pursue the clues to find out who was responsible. Learn what events Maya has to overcome in her quest and how the trial works out. The ending is well done and most of the questions are answered.

It is definitely a book that you want to read and continues the fine work of the author.

"Justice in Doubt: A Maya Jones Legal Thriller" by Freya Atwood

My Sentiments:

"Justice in Doubt" is another of this author's good reads as we see Maya Jones taking on the job of being a lawyer as she finds out who shot her husband, Evan, five times, who was a captain in the police department. Be ready for an exciting read as Maya, working with another lawyer, Michael discovers this was not an ordinary shooting that had happened to her husband. Still, Evan was the victim of a hitman. As the story goes on, the reader will see many twists and turns as Maya finds out this situation had something to do with her parent's accident that had killed them many years ago. This is quite a page-turner mystery with crime and suspense hanging all over the place in the action-packed courtroom drama...so one will have to keep up with the read so that all questions will be answered very well by the end. To truly understand what has happened in this series, I would suggest you start reading from Book 1 through Book 4 to get the whole story of what has happened up till now.

The extending epilogue was good...in showing that this couple...Maya, Evan, and Emmy finally get something they want on Monmouth Beach.

Be ready for another unique story from this latest series in Book Four.

Maya is back! Her husband, Evan, has been shot and is fighting for his life. When she goes to Evan’s office, she discovers a file on her parents’ death and accident. Now, she has a clue as to why he may have been shot. As Evan lay unconscious, Maya is driven to seek out the truth anyway she can! She knows she is onto something when an attempt on her life fails. They caught the man who shot Evan, but he will not stay where he is supposed too. Maya will come across some people from her past, so she knows she is in a precarious situation. Now, she has a young daughter to think about as well. When more secrets pour forth, shock factor is just a phrase compared to what is uncovered. This is not over by a long shot…Maya and Evan are after the big dogs…but for right now, they will have to try and enjoy the time they have for peace…what is going to happen?

After reading four of the Maya Jones series, I can almost know what to expect next. I enjoy the legal thrillers but book four didn't thrill me.

I was also disappointed in the proofreading of this book. So many mistakes with pronouns and the name "Evan". It sometimes appeared as " Eva" or "Even". Apparently an autumatic spellcheck was used which may correct spelling but not the meaning. I read many books and expect a few misspelled words etc., but this book was deplorable.

An excellent legal thriller with a well written storyline and strong well-developed characters. Maya Jones is at her best in this action-packed courtroom drama. A page-turning mystery with plenty of suspense and a cliff hanging ending. Highly recommended book, series, and author.

Another nail biter

Really a great read - it will keep you hanging till the end. Maya is in over her head again and your hanging there with her hoping she'll get everything right. Hope everyone enjoys it as much as I did.

Justice

A intense, gripping story right from the start. Maya’s husband is shot multiple times. Somehow this all ties back to her parents murder decades ago. Really, really enjoyed this fast paced story. Received this book as an ARC member.

a really great story that came together in court - loved it

An easy to read book - not too many characters and well written. Only noticed one error - a black car that changed to red in the next chapter.

I felt the story was very stilted and predictable. When you near the end of book you can't read the epilogue without reviewing the book.
I gave it three stars but was being generous. It was interesting that I don't want to know what happens at the end

baby talk

I enjoyed the book but the excessive baby talk & sweet talk with Evan began to wear on me. The courtroom drama was outstanding as always,
I will be reading the next book in this series.👍

Awesome

Maya Jones husband the Police Chief is shot, and in critical condition. Could this be connected to a case of hers, or one of his. Could it be the Genovias mob family getting back at her. She is fearless in bringing the shooter, or possible murderer to justice. There is a lot of action in this story that keeps you from putting it down. A stand-alone story to a wonderful series. Very highly recommended.

Justice in Doubt is the fourth instalment in Freya Atwood’s Maya Jones series. This novel intermingles the accidental death of Maya’s parents twenty years earlier with the recent attempted murder of her husband, who is a sheriff. To Maya’s surprise, she discovers that her husband was investigating the deaths of her parents. As the details of a potential conspiracy begin to emerge, Maya, whose husband remains in a coma and unable to share what he learned before the shooting, is on her own to uncover the truth and save herself. The characters in this story are excellent, the stakes high, and Atwood keeps us on the edge of our seats as this propulsive thriller races toward the finish line and its exciting conclusion.
