When their memories come back to haunt them, they’ll realise they were never safe to begin with
Red smoke spews from the mountains. Violent nightmares haunt him every night. Strange creatures attack his village. To figure out what these events mean, Tallesaign must travel to the mountains, where something unexpected calls to him. It’s there he finds Juno, injured and alone, but she’s no normal woman. She’s a fallen angel, cast out from the Halls for a reason she no longer remembers. As a demon, Tallesaign knows being with her violates the Blood Covenant. But neither can deny the inexplicable connection between them. When they draw the ire of the Halls, only the truths of their pasts can save them, and what they learn will forever change everything they’ve ever known
CW: 18+ Dark Fantasy Romance - this book contains instances of sexual acts, violence and abuse that some readers may find distressing
RD Baker did it again, y'all!! This book was action packed, emotional, spicy/smutty, and so much more. I could not put this book down! An absolute page turner. These characters will forever hold a place in my heart and run around in my head rent free. This book is *Chef's Kiss* phenomenal!
First of all, Go read The Shadow and the Draw if you haven't done so already.
The Shadow and the Draw introduced us to this smutty dark fantasy world with angels vs demons. The Shadow and the Draw is told through the POV of Amryn and Cora. The Earth and The Flame is a direct continuation of the first book but is told mainly through the POV of Tallesaign (Tal). If you thought it couldn't get any more twisted, darker, and spicier. Buckle up and clutch your pearls. RD gave us so much more than I expected, and I was there for all of it.
I was incredibly fortunate and thankful to be able to ARC read The Earth and The Flame for RD Baker. I cannot wait until the day, R.D. Baker is a household known name, her work is truly remarkable. With that being said, these are my own honest thoughts and opinions.
My rating for The Earth and The Flame is a 5/5 stars and 3.5/5 spice.
I had the privilege of reading this story as it grew and I couldn't be more happy. If you have read the first book, then you are in for an emotional Rollercoaster with book 2! You now get to follow Tals POV as well as a new and exciting character as well! And of course we can't forget Amryn and Cora! Their story continues in this amazing book, where you are left clutching your heart, begging for more, and wondering wtf just happened. If you read The Shadow and The Draw you know her spice is superb and it gets even hotter!! Prepare yourself for a sequel you never want to end and to fall even more in love with this amazing story! ❤️ Absolutely loved every minute of this series and cannot wait to see how it ends!!
The thing about RD baker is she is so good with creating books with spice, action, and a roller coaster of emotions. Stories that you don’t want to put down. It had been quite sometime since my brain had been in this world and I was worried that not rereading book one right before diving into the second was going to have me feeling lost, but RD slipped in some of the things that happened in book one in there and it’s like a core memory locking into place.
Since this is a sequel, I don’t want to spoil a single thing that happens, but if you want to know whether I think you should pick up this series or continue, my answer is simply yes. I will say though that Tal just akskdjfkdasfkjdf!
If you haven’t read Shadow and the Draw yet, please do. This story line has been just a phenomenal experience to read.
I received this book as an arc through the Author all opinions are my own.
Beautiful, Gripping, Heartbreaking. The Earth And The Flame is the second book of The Shadow Drawn Series. If you have not read it yet, what are you doing? Go read it. Just kidding, we are waiting for the release. The story continues from where we left off in the first book, however this one focuses more on Tal and the mysterious Juno he finds hidden in the woods. The emotional journey this book took me on was real, it left me on a cliffhanger with a broken heart. I need more. Can’t wait for the next one. As always R.D. brings to life beautiful complex characters, and I find myself fully vested in their stories. I was blessed to be on R.D. advanced reader team, and this review is voluntary and honest.
❤️🩹❤️🩹 THESE TWO BOOKS OF THE SERIES HAS MY HEART ❤️🩹❤️🩹
“An echo of a love that two souls remember”
“Zhizn Moya, I am so happy you found me.”
“Never doubt my love for you. I laid under the ground for centuries waiting for you.”
“I collapse to my knees and roar. I claw my fingers along my scalp as though I can somehow tear the grief through my skin. As though making myself bleed will make the pain stop. I reach out again, and again, but there’s no shield. Nothing for me to bear against. Nothing for me to tear down. Just an endless void for me to scream into, keening all my loss and pin into the vast emptiness where she used to be.” 😭😭😭😭😭
I love that this second novel in the series followed a different set of main characters and their connection - though the involvement of Amryn and Cora throughout the story and the established characters from book one was an awesome mix. This book felt heavier on the fantasy side than book one, and that threw me a little when reading. I struggled at times to remember which character was which when important plot lines were rolling out. The angst and spice were prevalent and awesome but i just would have loved a slower roll out of the more complicated themes.
Wow wow wow wow. I am not a fantasy girl at all but this series had me in a chokehold! Havent been able to put them down. Amazing book! Cannot wait for the next one
This is a pre-publication review, as I received this as a BETA read, free from the Author. This was a Follow-up to Book 1 The Shadow And The Draw. The BEST part of the book was the last page, when it was revealed who Cora's "Real Father" is....
Worth every minute and hour I spent reading definitely read the trigger warnings but overall I give it 20 out of five stars the story was just amazing and I cried I was happy just my emotions were everywhere and I love a book like that so if you're reading this go pre-order her book
Earth and Flame disappointingly fixates on explicit scenes, neglecting the depth of character and world-building.
This second book in this trilogy falls short with lazy and uncreative writing. The contemporary reinterpretation of fallen angels and demons, coupled with cherubs (yes, you read that right), characters driving trucks, and wearing denim jeans, comes across as lazy, diverting attention from the opportunity to craft a more nuanced and engaging narrative.
The plot lacks innovation, characters seem uninspired, and the world-building feels half-hearted. A missed chance to engage readers with a more imaginative and compelling narrative. A missed opportunity for a captivating story that leans heavily on sensationalism.
“Do not go where I cannot follow. Let me come with you.”
5⭐️ I absolutely adore this series and RD’s writing style. It’s so easy for me to follow along and enough world building for me to read it and my mind play a movie. I loved Amryn and Cora in book one but Tal and Juno are a whole other level. And I am obsessed! Seriously will forever recommend this series. The spice, the action, the plot, the emotions you get put through. The last page though, iykyk. I am here for it all. Cannot recommend this one enough.
RD, literally writes her butt off. This was my third time reading and it still gave me all the feels. You get the same emotions like the shadow and the draw but you feel it SO MUCH MORE with this book! She's one of the few authors I'll literally drop everything and read for. She brings you new characters and some og faces also. She writes so good you can picture all the heart racing moments and the spice. Hehe That CLIFFHANGER though had me saying WHAAAAATTTTTTTTT!!!! Ugh, I highly recommend you guys to read her series.
I was so incredibly lucky to receive this book as an ARC. My thoughts, views, and opinions on The Earth and The Flame are entirely my own, and are not influenced by the author in any way.
I loved “The Shadow and the Draw”. It got a 4.25/5 ⭐️ for me because it was a different kind of romantasy. It brought in a unique magical and “creature”/supernatural take. It also began an interesting spin on the angels vs demons saga of fantasy, drawing on real life angels and “religious struggles”. Oh, and it was fucking sexy as hell. TSATD was pure smut with some added plot in it. That was what brought my rating down a little for book 1, I wanted just that little bit more plot.
Did book 2 deliver that desire? Abso-fucking-lutely. “The Earth and the Flame” is also romantasy, although it features some very delicious romance/smutty scenes, TEATF is a lot more plot driven and the story is building into something phenomenal. The character development is exceptional, the smut is even sexier, and the story that Baker is creating with these characters is only getting stronger.
I can say with full confidence that I am a #TalGal - I stan an older man. I really enjoyed getting to meet Juno, even if her story had me in a sobfest. Cora and Amryn take a bit of a backseat in this one, but just because Cora is a mum now, she’s not relegated to the sidelines, unlike other pregnancy/mum tropes 👀
THAT ENDING THOUGH?!!!!???!!!! It’s a cliffhanger, by the way, so just be prepared for that 😭
If you made it this far, please be advised of some potential trigger warnings: • Sexual Assault, including two mentions of previous instance with two different characters, and reading about it being done to another (while it happens). • Swearing • Violence, especially one somewhat graphic scene around the 80/85% way mark • Death • Murder • Infertility • Drugs (cigarettes) • Alcohol • Domestic Violence
RD Baker is a GENUIS! She has done it yet again. Talk about an emotional roller coaster. This is one hell of a ride. All of the emotions are in this book.
If you haven’t read The Shadow and the Draw you will absolutely want and need to read that first. It has several of the main characters that cross over and continue into The Earth and The Flame. Cora, Amryn and Tallesaign have been in a quiet absence of chaos for a couple years now. That all changes when Tallesaign hears a voice calling out, but only he hears it. When Tal wakes up day after day with dirt under his fingernails and the smell of damp ground and dirt he needs to find out why.
Juno does not remember what has happened to her and why she is surrounded by dirt and can not escape. She has no idea who she is. When Tal comes across her coming from the mountain Arax he can not just leave her there. She is scared, hurt, bruised and her clothing is rags Tal takes her back to his cabin and has called to the village healer who takes in her badly damaged body, but the worse of it is on her back. She doesn’t know what has caused the injuries.
Tallesaign feels protective of her but doesn’t know why. It all becomes clear that they are connected in some way, but neither know how or why
Deceit, betrayal, lies and magic are all wrapped up in these characters and the reasons they have come to be who they are. What they mean to each other and how Angels, Demons and magic surround them all.
Loyalties will be tested. Love will overcome and hearts will shatter. The journey for these people are far from over. Secrets will be revealed. Gasps will be made and shouts will happen when this story is read. Take a ride with these truly magnificent characters brought to life of the pages and of the genius mind of R.D. Baker

Series Order: The Shadow and The Draw (The Shadow Drawn Series Book 1) Book 1 of 2: The Shadow Drawn Series
This book was just stunning! I read way into the night and picked it up every chance I could until I finished.
Cora and Amryn have settled into parenthood and are living in peace. But that is short lived when the volcano Arax begins rumbling and spewing smoke. Although unusual activity for the mountain, the village doesn't think much of it until they start getting snakes and having birds drop from the sky. Plus the village doesn't seem to be shielded as well as before and have an increasing number of raids.
Around the same time, Tal begins having nightmares about being trapped underground. He even wakes with dirt under his nails. When the sensations start occurring during the day, he reluctantly shares with Amryn and Cora.
Eventually, the village feels unrest, especially when the smoke from Arax turns red. Tal volunteers to investigate and finds an injured woman wandering in the forest near the volcano. He brings her to the village and feels an immediate connection to her. She doesn't remember much other than her name - Juno. They find evidence that she had wings and determine she is a fallen angel. Some of the villagers blame her for the increased conflicts.
However, when Tal learns more about her, he was not expecting what he uncovered...and how that information would change his life.
The Earth and The Flame by RD Baker is book two in the The Shadow Drawn Series. After reading the first book I can’t describe how much I was looking forward to this book. This is a dark fantasy romance. So just to be on the cautious side, check your trigger warnings. I read this book in one sitting, I was so invested in this book I just forgot to adult for the day. Complete page turner, I couldn’t get enough. There was action, spice and don’t get me started on the journey my emotions went through. This book was so well written and the plot draws you in just like the first one did. RD Baker has an amazing talent making you feel like you’re there in the story experiencing it just as much as the characters. I will mention you have to read book one because this book continues that… but this book is mostly told from Tal’s POV. I can’t recommend these books enough, they’re so good! RD Baker is fantastic weaver of tales, you should definitely check out the books.
OMG! RD what the heck did I read. This series is so freaking good. When I tell you how well you keep twisting the plot. There were times when I had to go back and reread chapters because I was afraid I was going to miss vital information for the plot. I love how well you’ve written these chapters and how their storylines keep expanding as the series goes. I have no Idea how many books you plan on making for this series but I will definitely be reading them as they come out. And let me just say the cliffhanger on this one was so brutal and I can’t wait for the next one. Love the plot, love the characters, love the freaking spice. Love it all!

I had the pleasure to be the first reader of this amazing book and when I tell you I could not put it down!! I could not put it down!! I love the love story RD has given with Cora and Amrym. I love the introduction to a newer member of the family. Learning the history if Amryn and Tal and watching their characters progress is absolutely brillant. Meeting new characters like Juno is also very interesting, especially seeing exactly where her character is going by the end of the books. TAL's absolutely brillant through out this whole story. Getting to see the softer more submissive side of him is extremely satisfying to me. I can't wait to see how this trilogy ends. RD Baker gives us a sense of family with these characters that I haven't felt in a long time. The Earth and The Flam is pure perfection for me. All the emotions!!

Wow, where to begin. After reading The Shadow and the Draw, I was so thrilled to hear about The Earth and the Flame and I was privileged enough to become an ARC reader for this new book. RD Baker did the dang thing again. I will say this book, had me on the edge of my seat the entire time and trying to scroll to the next page at the end had me cursing. I love books that leave me wanting more and this one delivered. Crying screaming throwing up needing the next book and this one isn't even published until Halloween. That's how you know it's 5/5. Could not get enough. Thank you RD! Just thank you! Please everyone read The Shadow and the Draw and then The Earth and the Flame you will not regret it!
This was my first time reading an ARC for Rd Baker, 2nd book of hers I've read and I am at a loss for words.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶🌶🌶.5

The Earth and The Flame... 2nd book of The Shadow Drawn Series and a beautifully written, tragic rollercoaster ride of emotions. It starts off pretty close to where The Shadow and The Draw ends but focuses more on Tal. What he finds, who he finds, the war that is only beginning, it's all finding its way back around.
Prepare to seek revenge. Prepare to be broken. Prepare to have it all explode.
Loved this book - I feel that this book tips the first there’s my action there’s my in depth story telling, the author gives you the bare basics of the characters features so you can let your imagination run wild to create your own image in your head , there’s times where it’s heartbreaking, hurtful , emotional , feelings of success and defeat
- I adore TAL his personality was what caught me in the 1st book, Yet again she’s leaves it on a nail biting cliffhanger , Can’t wait for book 3
I received a free copy of this book and I’m Voluntary leaving my honest review
Nothing about this read is ordinary. Nothing. The intro tension was perfect. I loved falling in love with Tal. And you better not need to eat, drink, pee or basically anything once the real action starts cuz you will be kept riding the edge, sliding by the seat of your pants into that special place only a really great writer can take you. That magically suspenseful place. It moves fast so hold onto your "I didn't expects that" until the end because you think it's gonna be done but GASP! that final page. Can't wait for three!
This one follows mostly Tal (the brother ) and juno( the new comer). This one was plot driven and twisty and Turney. They was amazing spice but it wasn't the whole book
When he found Juno and they figured out their souls connected and knew each other I was worried it was gunna be like the first one where it was like they were boning every time you turn around but there was so much more plot and intrigue in this one and that fucking ENDING!!! HOLY SHIT. I freaking loved it 💙💙 highly recommended

This book was utterly disappointing. The first one was amazing, all the stars. I pre-ordered the second one and was so excited, assuming it would be as amazing as the first. I am so sad to report that I couldn't muster up to give it more than two stars. It is not nearly as spicy as the first book, the characters not as relatable or lovable. And of all things the fmc is the Dom in this one and the mmc is submissive to her. I would have loved to see that in a blurb somewhere, because for that alone I would not have preordered or read it and the author wouldn't have gotten this review.
This story starts off directly after The Shadow and The Draw ends. You’re still enveloped in the demons versus angels storyline. This story is mainly told by Tal with a sprinkle of Juno, Amryn, and Cora POV. AND DAAAMMMNNN, if it isn’t spicy 🥵 Be prepared for twist and turns, aka emotional rollercoaster. Also HOLY CLIFFHANGER, so don’t forget the tissues (you cannot say I didn’t warn you).
I was lucky to be an Arc reader for this book. Omg!! When I tell you there are plot twists, spicy scenes and heart breaking moments.. it doesn't feel like enough. Rihannan has so much skill with emerging you into this universe, it's amazing.
As a book 2, you definitely need to read book one and you will fall in love with the characters as much as they love each other..
Forbidden mates, interspecies love, angels and demons, this book has it all!
I’m an emotional wreck. First of all - I need more of the story. 2 books is not enough books. 2ndly - demons fuck like gods. Where can I find me an Amryn? Asking for myself. Book 2 hits SO HARD as it continues to build onto the story and you go in knowing everything from The Shadow and the Draw. Absolutely GUT WRENCHING. 5 stars is not enough stars. Is there a dark romance award? This series deserves that award. Excuse me while I go contemplate my entire existence for a while.
The book continues where book One left off, and OMG it’s action packed along with being highly emotional, and very smutty.. It was heartbreaking and gripping, and had me in shatters (ugly crying with all my mascara running down my face). I love the authors take on angels and demons it’s captivating and thrilling, and I feel truly invested in all the characters (I love them like there my own)
But …. The ending… No…. You can’t end the book like that!
