They both thought they were through with romance, until something began to grow between them…
As far as she was concerned, Susan didn't need the hassle of a relationship in her life. She was perfectly content, although slightly adrift, focusing on the teaching job she adored. What better way to fill the nagging void she was feeling than by planting something in it?
When an opportunity arises to create a garden space at her school, Susan jumps at the chance. Unfortunately, with no gardening experience, she quickly finds herself in over her head and calls in a professional.
Jacob is better with plants than people. Social anxiety and a grumpy nature due to failed past relationships have caused him to prefer his solitude. Yet when he meets Susan, buds of attraction begin to bloom.
Neither are looking for more than a professional, working relationship. They're far too opposite for anything more. She's sunshine and smiles. He’s clouds and brooding. Despite their differences, the passion between them grows. Will the pair have the courage to sow the seeds of romance?
"Growing Connected" is a snarky, sexy romp between 30-somethings who can't resist their attraction thanks to the machinations of a secret matchmaker. Fans of will-they-or-won't-they romances are sure to love this steamy read!
This title contains explicit sexual language and adult situations.
I live in the southern US with my husband, kids, and a cat who rules the house. I spend way too much time on the computer, and only some of it is looking at cat videos, laughing at writing memes, or reading romance novels. You can find me online (way too much of the time) at https://linktr.ee/pennyheart
While this book had some great concepts behind it, it didn't quite stick the landing with everything. I have to say that I love the idea behind the start of this book, and I'm assuming the series beyond it. Having a fairy godmother type in the character of Linda who is trying to find romantic matches for the people in her life was a very cute concept to me. I also really appreciated that as far as the main relationship goes, Susan and Jacob both bring a great deal of baggage and they recognize it and actively work through it together. Some of Jacob's reactions seemed a bit over the top to me, but I think the author was trying to get across the extremity of his situation with his anxiety and past trauma, and so it was a bit more understandable in the end.
Now, as far as the main drama in the book goes, it truly did seem so unrealistic and out there that I had a hard time with it. While I was fine with the idea of Jacob having a difficult time with getting comfortable with Susan because of how his previous girlfriend treated him, to have Candice actively sabotaging his current relationship, and to such an extreme, went a bit too far. I do recognize that there are some pretty unhinged individuals out there in the real world, it was a bit much and didn't seem truly necessary to the story. Additionally, the fact that Susan and Jacob took so long to realize that she was behind all of their problems ended up being annoying, especially once they realized that Candice had been responsible for so much.
Finally, the other thing that I had a hard time with was the writing itself. Especially with the dialogue and especially at the beginning, things seemed stilted and awkward, almost robotic. It just didn't sound like how people actually talk. There was a lack of flow, which was difficult because so much of the book was dialogue. And what there was of descriptions was peppered with unnecessary details that didn't help to build the setting as much as it could.
Nevertheless, I do think that with more experience and practice, the author can improve and do well with the rest of this series.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This book definitely caught my attention with the witty banter, relatable characters and strong secondary characters. This story has everything you could want in a good romance book: mystery, suspense, drama, romance, spice, and heartbreak. As always pay attention to trigger warnings because I don’t have any triggers and what I like, you may not. I was not expecting the sub storyline in this book, to be so well woven into the main story, but it was and that causes it keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. “As much as I love you, I’m not going to date you” is a conversation I know I have had with several best friends of mine, so this was very relatable!!
Susan is a teacher at the local school, that takes on a project to take over the school garden. It's not the kind of activity her friend thinks she should be partaking in over their time off, but it is structured and it gives her something to look forward to. Jacob has trust issues, but who can blame him, with a terrible family and an ex who only saw his worth in the money he had. It’s surprising that he is able to maintain any of his friendships. This story really takes you for a ride. Our two MC's have to navigate a relationship and learning to trust one another. But some obstacles they have to overcome, try to keep them apart. They definitely had instant chemistry. Susan and Jacob’s banter was so great.
It was nice to see that Jacob and Susan were not perfect and severely lacked the skills necessary to communicate with each other in some situations. They were like average, every day humans and were willing to eventually admit their mistakes and begin to make changes to strengthen their bond. They have their issues they work through, but in the end they are perfect for each other. It kept everything in the story more grounded, which I loved. This book had so many great things, characters that seem like real people with real life issues, mental health representation, found family, a dirty talking hero, characters that ooze chemistry and an original plot line. This was an enjoyable fairly light hearted read that can remind us that everyone has their own issues they’re dealing with. I fell for these characters and now I want to read the rest of the series!!
This story has everything- mystery, suspense, drama, romance, spice, heartbreak...if you can think of an adjective it is probably in there.
Susan has volunteered to help get the new garden at her school off the ground during summer break. It's not the kind of activity her friend thinks she should be partaking in over their time off, but it is structured and it gives her something to look forward to. Without a romantic life getting in her way, nothing should stop her in accomplishing her goals and making this a success for the school. She never expected the surely gardener would come on the scene and shake her world up.
Jacob has trust issues and who can blame him- terrible family and an ex who only saw his worth in the money he had, it is a wonder that he even is able to maintain some of his friendships. He hasn't really gone on any dates in the last year since his break up nor has he really shown interest in many women- that all changes once he meets Susan. Will he be able to finally let someone in or will his past keep him from moving onto a life he deseves?
This story really takes you for a ride. Not only do our two MC's have to navigate a relationship and learning to trust one another but outside factors try at every turn to keep them apart. There are points where you being to wonder if situations are going to escalate so drastically that someone is going to get hurt. I was not expecting the sub story line in this book to be so well woven into the main story but it was and it really keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
It was nice to see that despite the fact that Jacob and Susan were not perfect and severely lacked in the skills necessary to communicate with each other in some situations, they were like average, every day humans and were willing to eventually admit their mistakes and begin to make changes to strengthen their bond. It was refreshing to see two MC's that were both just like average people you would see on the street in the beginning stages of a relationship and the troubles they had were not dialed back or cut short like you do tend to see in some angsty romance novels. It kept everything in the story more grounded which I loved. Throw in the spice between them and you have some great characters who were made even better by the supporting cast behind them.
Quick, easy fun read that holds you from beginning to end. Can't wait to see if more comes from this small band of friends.
This spicy book is full of some great tropes. Grumpy/sunshine Miscommunication Damaged MCs Stalker Second chance/redemption It even has some disability and neurodiversity rep in it!
The characters were really relatable and Im interested to see what happens next in the the series
I actually had this entire review written and then Goodreads went black and forced me out of the app before I could save it. 😆 I now have to try and remember what all I wrote.
I devoured this book! Read the entire thing in about 5-6 hours total; my toddler wouldn’t let me be great and get past 2% for most of the weekend but once she went to bed last night I read, and read, and read. You know a book is good when you just can’t stop reading it!
This book had so many of my favorite things, characters that seem like real people with real life issues, mental health representation, found family, authentic friendships between women, authentic friendships between men, a dirty talking hero, a hero who loves to eat, characters that ooze chemistry and sexual energy, and an original plot line.
I’ve never read a plot like this and I really enjoyed it! As someone who doesn’t have a green thumb, I identified a lot with Susan.
Jacob is filthy in the bedroom and I’m here for it!!! He’s fucking yummy and the way he comes into his confidence once it’s sexy time is sexy as fuck. Susan and Jacob together are hooootttt!!!
The one thing that I didn’t enjoy was the ex girlfriend. I thought for a majority of the book that it was going to be an old school romance plot device with the “evil and crazy ex” and I hate that. We have come a long way from that, women deserve better representation. We can find new ways to create tension and conflict without putting women against each other. However, new information came to light and it completely changed my mind on that. It changed the rating I would’ve gave as well, so I’m glad I was wrong about that and this ended up a 5 star read for me.
I fell for these characters and now I want to read the rest of the series!
Susan Meyers is a fifth grade teacher. She is going into her summer break with a big project. The school wanted to put in a garden. Susan’s job started with first figuring out how to garden. Being a novice, Susan went to her friend, Linda for advice about who to go to for help. Linda being the neighborhood matchmaker had set her sight’s on her godson, Jacob Riley, who also happens to be a garden landscaper.
Both Jacob and Susan harbor issues from their past. Jacob’s past makes him behave horribly to Susan on the first meeting. The attraction is too strong for Jacob to just walk away so he strives to make things right. Unfortunately, both have issues that keep popping up throughout their relationship. Outside forces also come into play with the insecurities both harbor.
This is not just a romance. There is a mystery here. A mystery that readers will want answers to. Not only that, this book deals with issues of anxiety and getting help through therapy. These factors make this book realistic. Readers will see themselves in these characters. Readers will also root for this couple but also be understanding if/when they aren’t able to stay together.
A sweet and conflicting romance. Full of angst, sadness, love and laughter. Initially I thought it was the usual romantic story , but boy did it hot up! I won’t give any spoilers, but it’s got everything you’d need in one book.
Susan and Jacob make the unlikeliest pair - him being a grumpy professional gardener and Susan being the bright, cheerful teacher. Together they come together to work on a project and fall hard for one another! Their story is filled with drama and hurdles and I couldn’t put this book down as I read it. I also loved the chemistry between these two. It was a great, fast summertime read for me!! I can’t wait to see what comes next for this author!
really good book!! Lots of twists and turns. All of the characters were great together. I loved Susan and Jacob. But all the characters were great together as friends and I was hoping there was more going on there. Hopefully there will be another book about the other characters that had interest in each other but not acting on it in this book. I’m glad Jacob got some closure about things that happened in his past. I think there needs to be another book about Jacob and Susan as a follow up.
When I say this book surprised me, it surprised the bejesus out of me. I was expecting a meet cute guy, have a misunderstanding, work it out, fall in love, and we're done. Yes, those things happen of sorts, but it's so much more. Dealing with your fears and anxieties and overcoming your past are never easy add in a stalker, a crazy ex, and dang. So good.
Jacob is a very grumpy person that sticks to himself, but for good reason. Susan is a homebody, but wants to get out of her bubble more often. When she volunteers to put together a garden for the school she teaches at she wasn't expecting to go through an adventure along the way. It's not a totally good adventure either.
This is a sweet, mysterious, very hot read. I enjoyed their story that their meddling friend got them started in.
Susan, an elementary school teacher, takes on the organization of a children’s garden and was directed to contact Jacob, a garden expert, by her neighbor, Linda. As the story progresses their meeting derails, they miss some details, and their relationship may not be the only thing that fails. Growing Connected more than met my expectations for a romance read.
Thank you to BookFunnel and Penny for the link and access to this ARC.
Susan Meyers is a fifth-grade teacher at Ada Lovelace Elementary in Texas and has decided to take on a project during her summer break on a subject that she knows nothing about: gardening. The principal of her school wants to create a garden for the children, and Susan is looking to challenge herself. However, she has little knowledge about the subject, so she decides to make connections in the community with those that know plenty about gardening. One of her first stops is at the local gardening store, where she meets Jacob.
Jacob is a surly gardener that isn't really good with people and would prefer solo activities as opposed to getting together with friends. He most certainly isn't thinking about starting a relationship after events in his past. Susan is also content being single, but after meeting Jacob, she can't stop thinking about him and wants to keep seeing him as he is involved with getting the garden together for the school. They have some personal hang-ups that are inhibiting them from fully throwing themselves into the relationship, but there is a more sinister presence that is trying to keep them away from each other. How will they let each other love each other and work through their own concerns while wielding away this thing that wants to keep them separated?
I thought this was a pretty well-paced romance. It seemed like Susan and Jacob's love story progressed at the right speed and kept me consistently engaged. I appreciated that Penny Heart added a subplot to the story in which this "sinister force" was working methodically and carefully to keep these two away from each other, causing so many misunderstandings. It added a level of depth to the story that you don't typically see in romance novels. I really appreciated the spice in the story too.
That being said, I did notice that there were more than several typos throughout the book (I can forgive this a little because it's an ARC), and I thought that some of the dialogue was a little awkward. Some of the love scenes at the beginning of the story were a little cringy to read, but as the story continued, it seemed like the author got more of a footing writing these scenes. Also, I thought it was predictable who the "sinister force" was trying to keep them apart. I wish that there would have been an epilogue at the end. I wanted to find out what happened between Susan and Jacob; did they get married, have children, etc.?
Overall, this was a well-paced, spicy romance novel despite some of my reservations. I would recommend this to someone looking for a mid-level spicy romance with a touch of Texas sweetness.
This book is about 2 main characters, Susan and Jacob. Susan is a teacher who volunteers to manage a summer garden project for the school and Jacob is a gardening guru. Susan is encouraged to connect with Jacob since he is the most knowledgeable in the area when it comes to garden designs and plants. He is socially awkward and they quickly are at odds with one another. As the story continues, they work through their issues and discover that they like each other more than friends.
This is a spicy romance book and I did like that Jacob was quiet and reserved out in public but was controlling in the bedroom and was not so quiet during those activities. I thought this was a great quick read that is a good palate cleanser when you need a break from other genres.
I often found myself annoyed with Susan mainly due to her back and forth with Jacob during the events that took place due to Jacobs ex. It also took them a long time to realize that she was behind all of the events. I also found it weird that even after Jacob knew that Candice was potentially hacking into his phone and emails, he still sent emails and texts.
I would not consider Jacob to be a grump though he was kinda grumpy but I didnt think he was a true grump for this to be considered a grumpy/sunshine. I also found a few typos but they were minimal and I felt the story was a Hallmark movie meets Lifetime vibe.
Overall I would recommend this book to others. I thought that it was cute and a nice quick read.
I received a free copy of this book and am leaving a review voluntarily.
This book is the start of a series that seem to all center the plot around a matchmaking older widow named Linda. A very cute concept, especially when Linda writes letters to her deceased husband to update him on her progress. The first book is about Susan and Jacob. Susan is an Elementary school teacher who volunteers to help with a school community garden over the summer. Jacob is a reclusive horticulturalist expert who has been burned by love and family many times over. The two have an almost instant connection and attraction that is quickly overshadowed by Jacob’s past relationship issues. From this point on Susan and Jacob have a very hot/cold and on again/off again relationship. It is quite frankly a big turn off. Especially when the dialog, banter, and writing is sometimes juvenile during their fights. When the two are together and everything is going well it was enjoyable and the spice was good. When the fights happened it was tough to get through. I’m not sure if there were too many or they come out of nowhere or what, but it was too much. I also feel like Jacob would take accountability for his actions and eventually tried very hard to correct his behavior and Susan did not do the same. She obviously has past issues that she needs to work through yet doesn’t seek help. The side characters were fantastic so I have hope for the rest of the series! I would read more just to see what happens. I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a free copy.
So overall the book is easy to read with a good plot line and some good spice thrown in. However, the hot aand cold between the characters and the quick ups and down in the plot got annoying. They jump into bed then suddenly things are going too fast the susan puts on the brakes then Jacob tries to take things slow and she jumps his bones again. Of course whenever they make up and start feeling happy tether than seeing the relationship develop further we skip straight to a break up due to the interference of a stalking ex. And around we go again...
I feel that this could be a much better read with some refinement, but having said that, it still includes an interesting plot which is often sadly missing in this genre.
N.B I received a free copy of this book via Voracious Readers in exchange for an honest review.
Overall a nice concept for a contemporary romance. Anger, sex, drama, insecurity, anxiety, fear, depression, hate, understanding, abuse, love.
A boy meets girl story with overly dramatic emotions and reactions, leading to the ups and downs of a new relationship. Past experiences influence the characters both mentally and emotionally.
Characters are defined, but lost within the choppy flow of the story telling. I had to walk away a few times due to some of the phrasing and sentence structure.
I feel bad for writing this review because I had high hopes for this book. It was just not for me: the characters were annoying, the dialogues didn’t feel real at all and there were unnecessarily too much drama. I felt that the story was dragged-out and the book could have been 50-80 pages shorter. The spice made me cringe, I didn’t like it. To end this review on a positive note, the author did a good job of introducing the characters who may get their own love story in this series. 2.5 ⭐️ rounded up. (This book was sent to me in exchange for my review.)
Although I enjoyed the overall story and the spice levels were pretty good, I just personally felt that the writing was hurried. And there were some points where I felt that situations could have been elaborated on.
The overall story is sweet and charming, the typical sweet woman and grouchy man trope, and I love it every time. And I’m absolutely obsessed with plants and gardening, so this was right up my alley.
Susan, an elementary school teacher, volunteers to organize the school’s new garden initiative. With zero gardening experience, she is referred to Jacob, one of the town’s best horticultural experts. The pair hit it off with instant attraction, but Jacob’s got his own issues, and he quickly throws on the brakes.
Susan is left stunned from the emotional whiplash, and Jacob, realizing his mistake, is forced to reconcile with his history in hopes to win her back. Luckily, he has a whole summer to do it.
Growing Connected uses dual POV to show you how the characters deal with their own demons—and sometimes pesky exes—to learn how to love one another.
You will like this book if: you like watching characters grow and work on their own issues to become a better partner and enjoy a lot of drama. Jacob and Susan both have flaws that make relationships hard for them, but they can’t deny the attraction between them. Their desire to become better partners drives them to find ways to heal, recognize the support available in their lives, and learn to accept help when needed. Several side characters have a sub issue of their own—possible teasers for future books?
You may be frustrated if: you don’t like sudden hot/cold romances. Many of the conflicts in this book are when a character’s personal issue “triggers” an instant conflict, and to me the responses felt extreme, or “two steps forward, one step back.” The good news is the “cold” periods are relatively quickly resolved, even if the underlying trust issues take longer. Side character sub-issues are not resolved in this book. Some dialogue sections discussing mental health/reconciliations can feel a little forced.
My favorite part of this book was: Three of the supporting characters and how they interact with the main leads. Amelia is Jacob’s sister, Eric is his best friend, and Linda is the connecting point between the two MC’s. Eric and Amelia work together to help set up Jacob for success considering his known difficulties. Amelia develops her own relationship with the female lead.
Cursing/Language: There is cursing throughout this book, both casually and during “dirty talk” scenes.
Sex/Steam/Spice: This book includes explicit foreplay and sex scenes—at least one is fairly early on in the book and several are sprinkled throughout. The “instant attraction” label is accurate. Once they are comfortable with one another, these characters can’t keep their hands off each other.
Violence: There isn’t any explicit or “on-screen” violence in this book, but there are very short references and suggestions that some side characters have been victims of domestic or emotional abuse. These parts are not critical to the story and are fairly short/can be skipped without affecting your understanding of the plot if you are particularly sensitive to these issues.
Part of a series: Yes. This book is listed as Book 1 in the Happy Hollows—Connections series. I hope we will see more from matchmaker Linda and some of the characters teased in the book but otherwise unknown. I will be watching for the author’s next book to see how she and the stories develop.
Value: Kindle cost: $3.99, or available on Kindle Unlimited. A fair price for an approximate 8 hr read.
Disclosure: I received an advance copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.
I love a good grumpy/sunshine romance, and Susan and Jacob’s story is that and more. It is also rather angsty, sometimes very emotional and then fun and flirty. Both Susan and Jacob have experienced plenty of pain in the past and had made a conscious effort to avoid love and relationships until Fate and a good nudge from a mutual friend brings them into each other’s life. Jacob is definitely the grump, though part of that is due to severe social anxiety and him feeling more comfortable with his plants than people. Plants don’t lie, cheat or betray you like a few people close to him have done in the past. Susan is definitely the sunshine. She is content to be on her own, happy with her job teaching kids and thrilled to be part of the garden project where she can use her formidable organizational skills. She is well liked, easy to talk to and very personable, as Jacob discovers.
When the meet for the first time, Susan and Jacob make an instant connection and seem on track to at least work well together planning a garden for the children who attend the elementary school where she teaches. Then something she says sparks suspicion and a flashback to his recent past, causing Jacob to morph from pleasant and polite to angry and accusing. Jacob realizes his mistake almost instantly, but the damage is done. Susan wants nothing to do with planning the children’s garden and goes out of her way to avoid him. To his credit, he does apologize and sets about making amends, even as doing so puts him in an uncomfortable situation. He really wants that first connection and feeling of ease and comfort that they had before he had his meltdown to return. Susan certainly doesn’t make it easy for him, though the attraction they both feel and his return to the pleasant and polite version of himself helps to ease the tension between them.
As their story continues, they unfortunately have to deal with a few more situations that raise their suspicions and wear at their trust of each other. The return of his manipulative and psycho ex brings danger and havoc while both are struggling with their tangled emotions and working hard to keep the children’s garden on track. Several secondary characters help to make this book fascinating and enjoyable. After the garden is ready, will they choose to build a future together or will they go their separate ways?
This story is growing connected, it takes us on a journey, telling us the story off Susan and Jacob💙💜
Susan Meyers is a fifth-grade teacher at Ada Lovelace Elementary, and has decided to take on a project during her summer break on a subject that she knows nothing about: gardening😱
The principal of her school wants to create a garden for the children, and Susan is looking to challenge herself, however, she has little knowledge about the subject, so she decides to make connections in the community with those that know plenty about gardening.
One of her first stops is at the local gardening store, where she meets Jacob.🥵
Jacob is the town’s best horticultural expert gardener that isn't really good with people and would prefer solo activities as opposed to getting together with friends. With so much that happened in his life it's hard for him to let people in and trust them.😞
He most certainly isn't thinking about starting a relationship after events off his past.
Susan is also content being single.
but after meeting each other, they can't stop thinking about each other and obviously there is a spark between them. It seems like fate wants them to be together aswell as everywhere they go they bump into each other. Yes they have a bumpy start and give us serious whiplash with on and off again 🤣🤣
but there is a more sinister presence that is trying to keep them away from each other. Will this presence succeed?
How will they navigate there there past issues, and let them love each other and support each other through.!
I personally loved there story, it definitely was full off drama, and they chemistry together was off the charts once they got there. I could have read more about them I feel like the book finished too soon. But it's was such a good read and I didn't put it down ( ok part from having to adulting🤣🤣 ) but I finished this in one sitting. I highly recommend it, if you want to know the answers if they get together and fight this presence then get the book you won't be disappointed. 10/10 from me ❤️
I’m usually a dark romance reader, but sometimes you’re just in the mood for light and sweet. Well, somehow with this one, I got both!
Susan is a fun, cheerful person who wants to make a garden for the children she works with at a public school. This is how she meets Jacob, an expert gardener, at the local gardening store. She goes to ask questions and buy supplies and as soon as she sees Jacob she considers how good looking he is. He does the same with her, but I really like the description of how what they think about their attraction initially. They’re attracted to each other, but don’t immediately fall in love or lust, or even think the other is the most beautiful thing they’ve ever seen. That is refreshing for a sweet romance, and it gives them a place to start from that is based on more than the way the other looks. It’s like there is just something about the other person that draws them, and I love that.
I loved the tension and build up throughout the rest of the books - the push and pull. I loved that it felt like someone bashed them over the head with the LOVE club, and they both felt they needed to back off a bit at certain times to make sure it was real and they were ready. I love how Jacob took care of her, but she was definitely capable of doing so on her own, as well. Most of all, of course, I love how he was so different behind closed doors during the spicy scenes, because as I said, I am a dark romance girl at heart, and his demeanor just added something really nice to this otherwise sweet romance.
"She brought brightness into everything. The days felt colorless without her."
Poor Jacob just cannot catch a break in life. From tragedy striking him at a young age to countless untrustworthy people being in his life Susan is exactly who he needed to meet to show him that there actually is good in people, he just needed to meet the right one. He keeps his circle very tight and close and as a person who has trouble trusting it wasn't surprising he had trouble letting Susan in.
Sweet, sweet Susan....not exactly innocent at life but an optimistic introvert. She is also brave considering she takes on the school garden with absolutely no experience and has no idea where to even start. Just as she is starting to get the hang of things with the garden someone sets out to sabotage her.
Jacob and Susan I loved together but they both really need lessons in communication...Jacob more than Susan. Of course I understand that helps build the story between the characters but still, it would be nice to not have to cuss characters out in my head for once because they are so dang stubborn. They both bring greatness to the table for each other.....Susan with her brightness and Jacob his friends/family. When these two finally wake up and realize they cannot live without each other I was beyond ecstatic!!! Here's hoping for more from these characters....i.e. Eric and Amelia!
Susan, a teacher who is devoted to her job and her students, starts a garden for her school. She has no experience to say the least but she is willing to give it a shot for her students. She sets out to find some help at a local gardening store, when she runs into business owner and gardener Jacob. Jacob, due to his last relationship with his ex, Candice, has been left in a total slump. His first encounter they did not set off on the right foot to say the least. He feels terrible, so he sets out to fix things. After all, he could not stop thinking about her. He tries to find a way to approach the situation, and make amends. He offers to help her with her garden for her school. He ends up falling for Susan, but she is not so sure she has time for him and her students garden. After all, her students do come first to her. Can she resist the urge and distraction of Jacob?
Strange things start happening to Jacob. Then Susan. Could it be a coincidence? Is it someone out to sabotage the garden? Or maybe it is someone out to get one of them?
This book has all the 🌶️🌶️🌶️. If you are a person who likes a quick read, grumpy man falling for a women, love at first sight, crazy ex girlfriend/stalkerish elements then this book maybe for you.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
A great start to a new series with an instant attraction, past hurts, sabotage, robbery, stalking and steamy scenes with dirty talk. Susan is an elementary teacher looking for a summer project to keep busy and the new school garden is just the thing even though she’s a novice. Jacob is a professional gardener and has some serious trust issues stemming from his last relationship and family drama. When the two meet, an instant attraction sparks but doesn’t last as past issues lead to misunderstandings. As they run into each other and spend more time together, that attraction rekindles but someone is making Susan’s life more difficult. Can she figure out why she is being targeted and will they be able to move forward in a relationship when they both have trust issues? I enjoyed the group of characters, and the ending left you with the future romantic entanglements for the next books. My favorite part was Susan’s justification and defense of romance novels to Jacob as it was spot on for us romance readers. I look forward to the rest of the series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
ARC Read: Thank You Penny Hart for allowing me to read your and review it🥰 1.Dual POV 2.GRUMPY SUNSHINE 🌞 3.Friends to lovers vibe 4.God-mother/Match-maker 5. Relatable charcaters 6.loved how Javob was so attentive to Susan and took care of her! 7. Several Spicy Scenes🌶
✨️Poor Jacob has been scorned by every woman he has been with. He has been cheated, used and almost killed by a lover. ✨️Jacob doesn't trust well until he meets Susan, he really tries to overcome some of his past trama. ✨️crazy ex lover who tries to sabotage Jacob's new love intrest, his job/work, projects he is working on.
✨️ Jacob and Susan both have past trauma they are still trying to get over. Jacob has anxiety and trust issues and susan has some trust issues as well. ✨️Loved that Jacob has a good support system as in Linda( his god-mother)and his sister Amelia. ✨️ A slow start for me as I really couldn't get into the whole gardening plot. But after the spicy part after reading 30% I was able to push through and finish. Then the story turned into a mystery as to who is trying to sabotage Susan's school garden project. I definitely like that part as well.
Growing Connected is a very cute romance about a lot of misunderstandings. It also begins a series about meddling neighbours and matchmaking.
Jacob has been betrayed in the past and this has led him to be cautious of new people. He did overreact a lot of the time and didn't ask what was going on before he made a lot of bad assumptions. He really did show good character development as he was able to learn from his mistakes.
Susan just wants to make this school garden a success, but every time she turns around someone seems to be sabotaging her efforts. She is one of the nicest people in this town and yet someone seems to dislike her and she doesn't know why.
These two were cute together, even though they had a lot of problems they had to work through before they could become successful. The one thing they really needed to work on was communication and not thinking the other was lying. Trust is an important aspect to any relationship and they really needed to work on theirs. I am glad they were finally able to see the positives in each other.
Susan and Jacob are complete opposites. She is a cheerful, optimistic teacher that has taken on a school garden project with zero gardening experience. He is a grumpy, professional gardener with social anxiety and big trust issues. Neither are looking for love, but something about the other really attracts them. They need to work together to make the garden project a success, but outside forces seem to want to destroy it and what is building between Jacob and Susan. Issues with his ex, mistrust and rumours seem to try to tear them apart. They need to figure out if it is all worth it. Sure they have some off the charts chemistry in the bedroom, but can they put aside everything else and learn to trust and communicate with each other to get the happy ending they both deserve? I loved the writing style and the flow of the story. Can'r wait to see what happens with the next book in the series.
