Alysium thought she'd met monsters, until she comes face to face with the Shadow King. Thrust into a world she doesn't understand, our Princess must battle to retain her sanity, and to keep those she loves alive, whilst denying the sadistic king what he desires most. Can she battle the shadows coming her way? Or will she break beneath the sorrow?
Jacin stumbles along his chosen path, determined to rescue his captured friend while Alysium forges her own way. However when news of his Princess’ capture reaches him, he must chose between his duty to Agenia and his heart’s desire. Can he stay the course to rescue the many, or will he forsake them all for her?
Lysais thought he knew what despair felt like, until his soul-bonded Princess is forced into his dark and dangerous world of shadows. Battling the bonds he hates to protect the ones he loves, Ly must stand tall against his father's wrath. Can he toe the precarious line he's walking, or will his world come tumbling down around him?
All three must face the darkness, for the hope of all worlds resides with them.
Of Shadows and Sorrows was more fast paced than the others so far. I really enjoyed the intense moments and the character development throughout this book.
3.5🌟 I was lucky to receive an arc for this book! If you like a series with shorter books that pick up where the previous one left off than this is the series for you!!
The story picks up right where book two ended with Ally getting captured/betrayed by the rebels and handed over to the shadow lord. At the same time,Ly is now shadowbonded to his dad and tortured by him.
This book was good but I found that the characters emotional outbursts (again) made it a struggle to read sometimes. Maybe it's me not being a native English speaker, but it is something I notice in each book in this series. One sentence they would be snapping, growling etc and the next they were laughing and giggling which lead to very jumpy reading.
The story has good pacing and yet again ends with a huge cliffhanger. The books are pretty short for a fantasy so in my opinion it would make a bit more sense to write a longer book so the story isn't broken up each time a book ends. I feel like this was a good ending but the previous two books could've been one book maybe? Idk, but I did like the second one a bit more.
That being said, I do think the book is worth reading and the plot only thickens with this one.

Alysium is taken by the Shadow King into Lysais’ world. The Shadow King wants her to conjure up a gateway so he can take over the other worlds. Ly is struggling with his demons being bound by the shadows from his father. Jacin has his own journey to save fae’s and rescue his friend. I love the world building that Maggie makes in her books. Fast paced with a spicy scene between the soul-bonded. Looking forward to reading the next book ❤️
Maggie has done it again! I am utterly obsessed with these books and these characters. I’ve cried and laughed and rejoiced through it and simply cannot wait for the next installment.
I enjoyed the first two books in the series but this book had me gripped and I couldn't put it down. I was riveted and from the first page I was unable to put it down, read it all in one day fantastic read, can't wait for the next one!
Absolutely loved the development of the world building!
Finding out what happened to Alysium and Jacin trying to find her and rescue the slaves.
It was hard for me to see what happened to Ly and Alysium so much pain and suffering and Balor definitely has a plan of his own!
This book was a rollercoaster of action, so more gore as well (check trigger warnings) and it kept me on my toes! I flipped through the pages because I just needed to know what happend next.
The spice was amazing! Ly really has a dirty mouth and loves to praise his mate 🥵🔥
Can’t wait to continue in this series! This book ended on a cliff hanger.
Maggie has done it again. Each book just keeps getting better. I can't wait to see where we go from here. And the quick witted humour that comes out and some of the names are priceless. Spunk Trumpet for the win!
I'm going to have a great attack with the cliffhangers. 😂
Maggie once again had written an amazing book, this is continuing on with Alysium, Lysais and their journey. Jacin is on a journey of his own trying to save people. Whereas Aly is fighting her own battle with the King and Balor. Honestly your hatred will grow for these two, I have swore so many times during this book 😂...I am so excited to get my hands on the fourth book.. coming soon ❤️
Oh my goodness. Soooo much happens in this book. If you have not yet started The Gatemaker Series you are missing out. The 3 books so far, do need to be read in order to get the full picture.
Ally is now so much stronger than she has ever been. However she has found herself in a position nobody would ever want to be in. She will face trials and tribulations that most can't imagine. Jace her every loyal bodyguard is doing everything he can to get to her to protect her and keep her safe and doing what he believes she would want him to. Poor Lysias is in one heck of a predicament.
I don't want to spoil anything for anyone but this is a MUST READ. I can't want to find out what happens next.
This was my most recent ARC read and it did not disappoint! I loved the first two books but this one is my absolute fav! They just keep getting better and better! ❤️
I absolutely loved this next installment in the Gatemaker series! It was dark, gritty, and full of action with a side of spice! From the very beginning the plot just jumps into action where the previous book left off with kidnapping, betrayal, and searching for friends. The way the FMC and MMCs relationship grows in this book is amazing! The cliffhanger at the end is exciting! I can’t wait to read the next one!
