My fellow readers. What a treat it was to have the opportunity to read this I thought, romantic comedy story. I thought that Theo’s character was written superbly for this story. He had me chuckling every other page. You have got to check this book out. My next question is where did Cordelia come from?! She almost feeds off of Theo’s confusion fits. I wasn’t expecting the fun and jovial entertaining actions by the characters. For you who love good romantic comedy and some pleasurable romance, take a peek at Cordelia’s and Theo’s most fantastic love story. I give this book two snaps and a twist. Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

Every bit of the wonder and enthralment that I expect in a Charlie Lane story. She writes directly into my heart, I swear! Ever the queen of cinnamon roll heroes, watching Cordelia thaw the stony heart of her gargoyle Theo, made him into the perfect cinnamon roll. “Have you slept? I’m here now, sleep!” This comfort care is exactly the frosting I need on my roll. He see’s her for all that she hides and knows exactly what she needs from him and is all too happy to provide it for her. Cordelia is a woman of little self-worth, who feels alone in a crowd of people and longs for love, to be loved. Theo is surrounded by love and yet is an island, a man who shrouds himself in a cloak of grouch to keep people at bay. All because his father loved too freely, ignoring responsibility for love & art. Cordelia teaches him that it is possible to have both, he can love his art and pursue it responsibly. In this way they are truly a perfect match. They are true helpmates, they lean on each other, respect one another and bloom in the others love. I would say this is my favorite of the series but I know each story gets better and better, so I prefer the “love the one you’re with” mentality (at least when it comes to my reading). I Loved this story!!!

Amazing addition to this series. Cordelia and Theo are wonderful together because they both help each other grow and learn. I loved that Theo was a grunting man of few words and he end the book the same way. I liked Cordelia’s dream included helping those less fortunate so that they may find passion in art that they would have never had the opportunity to share or express themselves as before. These men in this series and their declarations of love SWOON. I think Drew is the next brother we will get and I cannot wait!

Charlie Lane’s third installment in the Art of Love Series is a delightful romance featuring the former Earl of Waneborough’s youngest son, Theodore Bromley. Theo is an artist specializing in satirical cartoons under a penname and avoiding any more serious art (mostly to spite his upbringing with his art loving and financially careless parents). As the story opens, Theo faces a moral dilemma as he settles the last of his father’s will and attempts to evict Lady Cordelia Trent from the townhouse his father had been renting for her. She is both a thorn in Theo’s side and a temptress who is incredibly optimistic and just plain good. Cordelia is an admirably strong woman who was jilted by her fiancé after her father died and could no longer provide the connections he needed. Though not an artist herself, she is trying to be independent and open an art school for children who can afford it, as well as for those who can’t. Theo, by contrast, is so stiff and stony that Cordelia nicknames him “the gargoyle”. A series of circumstances leads the two to pose as an artist and his muse/mistress for a two-week house party in the country. What develops from here is a wonderful story full of witty banter, humour, angst, yearning, and an entertaining and emotional road to the HEA.

I really enjoyed the original spin Lane put on some common tropes. There’s road trip, fake relationship (first one I’ve read where the woman is posing as a mistress), forced proximity, enemies to lovers, and grumpy/sunshine. But what I most loved was the development of the characters. I loved the way Theo’s art changed as the story progressed and as he came to terms with his feelings about Cordelia. Despite hiding behind a mask of indifference and disdain, he burns very hot. There are some scorching scenes that work well in the development of both characters and work to build their relationship. I loved the tender scene involving Theo brushing Cordelia’s wet hair, the emotionally revealing drawings by both characters, and the reckoning that comes to help them both move forward. Theo’s transformation, especially, is done by degrees and with patience which I appreciated as a reader. There are brief appearances from some beloved characters from the first two books, and it was nice to see how they’re doing.

As always, I loved Lane’s writing style and her diligence in showing us, rather than telling us. I highly recommend this book to HR readers who like believable and endearing characters, a well-developed story, and an emotional journey to the HEA. Although this novel could be read as a standalone, the previous two books provide more detail about Theo’s backstory and other helpful background information which enhance the reading experience of this third book. The first two books are also great reads.

I received a copy of this book for free and am leaving this review voluntarily.

As the youngest of the Bromley siblings, Theodore was the last to learn about their father’s wasteful habits. His art became his weapon and his livelihood. Wielding his charcoal and ink, he tried to right the ton’s wrongs one satirical drawing at the time… but lately inspiration was sparce.
He had taken it upon himself to evict his father’s leeches, artists under his patronage. But finding the last one a new patron was easier said than done. The girl had absolutely no talent other than getting under his skin.

Cordelia Trent had been lost when, shortly after her father’s death, the marquess offered her the patronage he’d intended for her former betrothed. He sent her tutor after tutor, but she wasn’t an artist, so she had opened his house for her tutors to teach others.
Opening an art school was her dream, and boundless optimist that she was, she nearly succeeded… but now that stone cold Mr Bromley was evicting her. She needed funds, and she needed them soon.

Theo needed dirty secrets and Delia needed sponsors. A scandalous artistic house party answered both their prayers even if spending a fortnight in close quarters would be the sweetest torture.

Can this knight of the pen conquer his siren’s heart and maybe even convince her to keep him? And can she infuse enough colour into her gargoyle’s black and white world to soften his heart?

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The blurb says it best: an ambitious lady becomes an angry artist's muse at a scandalous house party where love and art collide.
And it’s a thrilling ride!

Cordelia and Theo are polar opposites with their futures tethered together and an undeniable attraction to one another. While he’s determined to remain cold and distant, she teases and flirts to fluster him. A playful and somewhat naughty dynamic I very much enjoyed.
Excellent writing makes this story flow easily. They hit some rough patches, but both being open and direct, there’s no misunderstandings or miscommunication. Ultimately they share the same goal, but he’s stubborn in his convictions and she won’t settle. One of the most touching things to me, is the way she makes him understand there’s more to his father than he realised.

A wonderful addition to the Art of Love series, this third book can be read as a standalone even though I highly recommend reading them all! Each tale unique with a riveting and witty main plot laced with sizzling tension and steam, the Bromley family history unravels itself underneath it all and each book brings new insights.

I love this series, and I’m eager to discover what the author has planned for the remaining two brothers!

“I would like to sleep with you. Or you with me. Doesn’t matter, really, as long as I’m not alone.”
“You’re not alone. Your room shares a wall with mine. There are dozens of guests nearby.”
“Not enough. When I first moved to your father’s house, a housekeeper, maid, and cook were all employed, and one of them slept in the house every night. I was never alone, but … I did not know anyone. No one knew me well enough to care what happened to me. If I died in my sleep. When I’m alone like that, my mind runs away with me. No, that’s not quite right. It locks me up inside myself, reminding me that alone is all I’ll ever be. It’s … suffocating.”

Sigh🥺…so much pain conveyed in such a brief passage…it's so heartbreaking. Yet..this book is anything but. It's fun and energetic and emotional and just so full of life. His Mistress, Muse and Other Madness is one heck of a good time. This book angered me, made me laugh, and made me cry. A lot (way to go Charlie!) and books that make me cry are absolute winners.

Watching Theo fall is delightful…probably because initially he's such a douche. He’s angry…all the damn time…and there's nothing anyone can say or do to make him forgive his father. At first glance…hell even second and third, Theo is quite an unlikable character. But…we quickly discover he's really a delicious cinnamon roll with a gooey drippy middle. And Cordelia…absolutely adorable. She's sweet…kind…funny!!! And despite her circumstances she's a real array of sunshine, one u can't help but love. Of course she's ruined, but even when her sense of security is threatened she's optimistic.

His Mistress Muse and Other Madness is …as the young folks say..bussin (im in my 40's so I can still use it). It's a worthy addition to Lane's Art of Love series and I'm sure you'll enjoy this read as much as I did. And before you ask…no you don't have to read the previous two books but i would recommend that you do, cause things in the previous books affect the characters in this one. Listen to me. I won't steer you wrong…intentionally..😉

An excellent story from beginning to end. And a great story to wrap up a series.

Cordelia has lost so much in her life from her father to her reputation in the ton and now she's verge of losing the home and the place she thought to make an art school, that she thought was hers simply because she's not talented enough to sell art or get enough donations.

Theodore trust no one and he definitely doesn't believe in love. And he even more than that he doesn't trust anything that's beautiful regardless of how good it seems. Because beauty can be deceiving.

However despite all of this, and the fact that he can't stand her and she can't stand him. They strike a bargain that is beneficial to go for them both and go to a house party together. The one thing they both can admit to, is they burn for each other. They can't deny the attraction between them after one kiss.

When they are meant to be pretending muses, and lovers for each other, they quickly become so much more than that.

These two characters you could feel the chemistry between them and you couldn't help but feel for both Theodore and Cordelia with their childhood..

I definitely enjoyed this book. And I highly recommend it.

I'm sad to see this series coming to an end.

I can't wait to see what Charlie has in store next.

I received this as an advanced copy in exchange for a voluntary review and this is purely based upon my own experience and that of no one else.

The youngest son of a marquess is completely cynical of those who lead an artistic lifestyle, since he has seen the financial destruction such patronage has caused his own family. As one of the remaining loose ends of his father’s will, Theo has been finding new patrons for artists that his father supported, so that the family will finally be released from this financial burden. When he meets Cordelia, he is resentful of lush accommodations since his own siblings had to work hard and go without. He’s even more irritated to learn that she doesn’t have any artistic talent whatsoever and has no idea why she was supported at all. Cordelia fell into lonely circumstances after her father died and her fiance abandoned her, so she is grateful to the old marquess for saving her. In trying to become independent now that she’s at risk of being kicked out of her home, she aims to open an art school, but needs donations to run it. Theo and Cordelia agree to work together in attending an artistic house party so that he can collect gossip for his satirical cartoons and so that she can try to solicit donations for her school. Although Theo and Cordelia have had an antagonistic relationship so far, they need to pose as lovers to attend the party, and all their physical desires bubble up during the course of the party. We get to see these two open up to each other about their past hurts and work together in creating artwork.

This is the third book in the Art of Love series about the Bromley family by Charlie Lane. I am loving this series and this book was my favorite so far. We have another grumpy Bromley brother, I love a good grumpy main character and Lord Theodore Bromley fits the bill. He is on a mission, he needs to kick Lady Cordelia out of her house to complete the conditions of his father’s will.

He doesn’t believe in love, he meets Cordelia and dislikes her because of the actions of his father but he can’t forget her either. They have chemistry right from the start, is it mutual attraction, dislike, or something more?

I absolutely loved these two characters, opposites in every way, they can’t stand each other but agree to work together, he needs to uncover secrets of the ton and she needs sponsors so Cordelia agrees to attend a scandalous house party as Theo’s mistress.

As they spend time together Theo can no longer deny his feelings for Cordelia, their evolving relationship was filled with heartfelt emotions passion, teasing, unresolved childhood disappointments, the emotions jumped off the pages, and I was captivated.

I am so happy that there are two more brothers because I cannot wait to see what Charlie has planned for them. She has not disappointed us with this series and I fully expect another thoroughly enjoyable read.

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and am providing my honest review.

🎨🎨ONE BEWITCHING WONDER🎨🎨
Jamming jets Jill! Charlie delivers one sinfully tantalizing, artfully scrumptious, incredibly tumultuous, rock-our-world piece of delight. Lacing every essence, nuance and sentiment with all the heat and magic, propelling this baby to new heights. Sparks ignite in a rush of shenanigans, misunderstandings and mishaps. Spinning with such intoxicating thrills, spills and feels, bursting all of those churning emotions into play front and center. Tugging on those heartstrings tightly as secrets are shared and revelations disclosed. Ingenuity and determination beckon you ever deeper, interlacing each thread so precise and tight until nothing else matters. Broadcasting the explosive highs and torturous lows, alluring in it's clarity and remarkable in it's strength. The characters banter, interactions and charged atmosphere along with relatable qualities and individual traits add depth and diversity, transforming into amazing personalities. The attraction and chemistry ignites with such intoxicating intensity, exploding with boundless emotions and infinite affection, kicking this jewel into a tailspin with mind-blowing crush. The scenarios are graphically descriptive and vivid details with brilliant points that blend perfectly and realistic they feel as though they can transform you to ground zero. Fabulous job Charlie, thanks for sharing this amazing gem with us.

“Art had given her a place to pour her pain, to find joy, to discover life in ways she’d not seen before. One of her revelations: art should be for everyone. Not just the few who could afford it.”

“Beauty lied. Beauty was false, an illusion that entranced, ruined.”

A new chapter in the Bromley family saga and a very good one at that. It’s intriguing to see the many ways in which the late Marquess’s behavior affected his children. Theo, the younger brother, doesn’t believe in love and beauty, because they are deceiving. Love for each other and love for beauty ruined his parents and he wants nothing to do with them.
But then Cordelia comes along and she’s not only beautiful, but witty and clever and she believes art can help people, can save them. That’s the conundrum: can Theo and Cordelia find a common ground? Can they let go of their past and forge a new future together?
I’ve read ALL of Charlie Lane’s books published in the last two years and she NEVER disappointed me. Gorgeous writing, beautiful descriptions, vivid characters, humor, angst, everything I want to keep me entertained and satisfied while reading a book. And this series that revolves around art is a favorite of mine!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“His Mistress, His Muse, and Other Madness” is the third book in the ‘Art of Love’ series by Charlie Lane. It’s a Regency romance with a grumpy leading man, a desperate but optimistic leading lady, and some seemingly insurmountable challenges.

Cordelia is essentially alone in the world and has been for too long. For complicated reasons, Theo’s late father had set her up in a town house and supported her, though she wasn’t his Mistress or a talented artist. As his financially strapped family struggles to make ends meet, Theo has been tasked with finding new benefactors for several artists his father was supporting – including Cordelia. Since nothing is as it seems, it also isn’t a simple matter to handle. They both struggled to come to terms with their pasts, identify what they want from the future, and deal with the overwhelming attraction they feel for one another.

This is a well-crafted story, characters who subtly manage to find a way into the reader’s heart. The dialogue is well written, and the pace of the story is excellent. Although it’s part of a series, this book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone story. If you’ve read either of the previous books, it’s great to see the main characters in those appear in this one in secondary roles.

Lord Theobold Bromley and Lady Cordelia Trent meet at her home. She was gifted it by his father; he is there to evict her.
He is attracted to her, but fights the attraction. He doesn’t believe in love. Cordelia likes to tease him, and get him flustered. She calls him a Gargoyle as he is always stoney faced.
They agree to go to a scandalous house party and pretend to be lovers. This is so Theo can do some digging and get information for his satyrical drawings. She agrees to see if she can get donations for her art school.
Theo’s angst at trying to deny his attraction to Cordelia is amusing as he debates with himself about getting involved with her. During their time at the party, they both finally admit the attraction to each other.
The characters are well written and you can feel the emotions that both Theo and Cordelia go through.
I was given an ARC for this book, and it was a truly delightful read. This is my own honest opinion. Congratulations Charlie on a riveting read.

His Mistress, His Muse, and Other Madness by Charlie Lane is the third book in her Art of Love series about the Bromley family. It delves deeper into Cordelia and Theo’s story.

Theo sees Cordelia as a leech on his family finances even though she has a plan to open an art school dedicated to Theo’s dad. Theo is a satirist who hasn’t found inspiration recently. That comes to a head when he gets an invitation to a secretive house party which requires him to bring his muse.

One road trip later Cordelia and Theo arrive at the house party and their attraction to each other flares. Lane never disappoints when it comes to chemistry between her characters! House parties allow for shenanigans which give inspiration to a certain satirist and steamy times for attendees of the house party. This book can be read as a stand alone, but I’d recommend reading them in order.

I received an ARC from the author. The opinions expressed above are mine.

Charm, steam, and romance-a wonderful read

I have enjoyed this series and the third book is no exception. The author has found a way to take a modern issue and apply it perfectly in a historical setting. Also, the series plot line is so different from so many other historical romances. The author expands on the common trope of no money and repairing an estate in each book but applies it differently and with characters who’ve grieved not only the loss of their father but also the loss of innocence that a seemingly wonderful childhood had provided. I loved this grumpy/sunshine love story. Cordelia is strong and independent and set on making her own way in a time that doesn’t provide many opportunities. Theo has a chip on his shoulder because to him art ruined his family and yet art is what he excels at and earns his living doing. Their attraction is undeniable and loving one another makes the other better. Full of charm, steam, and romance-a wonderful read.

I still have to finish this book but I must do my review now, while everything is fresh. This book/series is atypical Historical Romance to me. Not the usual tropes, maybe at first, Enemies to Lovers, but I find I'm not sure Cordelia and Theo were really ever enemies. Just in denial. Their journey to an HEA is filled with humor, steam and finding out love is real and you're not alone.

This book can be stand alone, but if you want to read an amazing series, start with Book 1 Portraits, Passion, and Other Pastimes (Art of Love #1) by Charlie Lane . The way this family stands by each other is heartwarming. The pain they share, love they reveal, and even the art they begin to appreciate again. This is a series I will read, and re-read as the books continue. Charlie Lane has written other series, but this may be her best.

The best one yet! God, I loved the first one. Immensely enjoyed the second one till Zander almost does THAT.

But this one is simply amazing. I loved Cordelia for no only sticking to her convictions but preventing Theo from causing so much hurt. Also some of the dialogue towards the end between them, and Raph and Theo is beautiful.

Also noteworthy is that Theo also softens a bit and does not undergo a 180 shift in personality since falling for Cordelia.

The bg cast was just the right mix - quantity and personalities-wise. I hate it when authors go overboard with a motley crowd that adds nothing to the story.

Also I found out that Posey's book is next, and I can't wait for that one.

He is the Stoney Gargoyle! She is his thorn in the flesh. Theo wishes to rid her from the house he needs to sell and from his life altogether! This is a wonderful romance of one of the quirky Bromley brothers, and the would be artist, Cordelia, who becomes his muse, and grows her way into the Stoney cracks in his heart. The characters are wonderful, their dialogue and banter, a total delight, and their romance, sizzling! A most enjoyable read!

I love reading enemies to lovers, house parties and mistaken identities. Theo and Cordelia are a great opposite attract couple. Theo is artistic and Cordelia can only draw stick figures. Theo protects Cordelia when her past catches up with her. I couldn't put the book down waiting to see what happens in the end. I enjoyed seeing all the brothers get their HEA and learn more about family and their father.

Wonderful steamy romance and very entertaining to read. I enjoyed the plot within the art world and the grumpy artist and his tempting lady, both lonely and yearning for more. A scandalous house party and bargain that turns to so much more for Theo and Cordelia.
