Spite: Solace Book 2

Rate this book
No longer untested, Emily is a part of the family business… that is, if the family business still exists…

Emily, Milo, Sterling, and Devon are left alone and challenged for control after their confrontation with Anthony and Matthew. Without money, gangs, or inventory, they must decide if they stay or leave. Do they destroy what was once theirs and put their families at risk? Or do they decide to fight for the power they believe they deserve?
Milo reels after losing his uncle and the uncertainties of their future. With old wounds scratched open, a new frenzy for revenge overwhelms him. Milo struggles under the burden of his knowledge of how to destroy their enemies and the risk he could take down the people he loves with them.
Confused and enraged at her discoveries about her ex-husband’s extra-curricular activities, Emily dances on the line of powerful woman and murderous villain. When choices of the fate of others are presented to her, she faces the ultimate defining decision.
Spite begins where Solace ended, intensifying in violence and sexual content. Spite is the second installment in an adult only mafia romance where the female lead character loves more than one man, and some of those men love each other.

Who knew that living in the gray area held so much responsibility?

NORMALIZE HAVING PLOT SUMMARIES FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS AT THE BEGINNING OF BOOKS. Omg why don’t all authors do this? Thank you Cat Austen for this.

4.25

If you liked book 1, you’ll enjoy book 2. Super quick and fun read, low angst and high steam, with plenty of funny moments that made me laugh out loud (Emily offering to bake cookies for the gang meeting, and the entire scene with the plugs just to name a couple). Emily has found her place within this family of misfits, and I enjoyed watching her relationship grow with each man individually (especially Devon), and watching her confidence grow. The growing relationship between Sterling and Milo was also another high point, and I can’t wait for Devon to take his head out of his ass and fully embrace his part in this relationship. The moments where he almost fully gave in were some of the best in the book.

I follow this author on social media, and she said something on Instagram about us getting “feral Devon” in book 3, and I personally cannot wait. I need to know what’s going on in his head. I’m sure it’s not a pleasant place but I’m ready for it.

Omg this book was so GOOD!!! I would let these men do literally anything to me🤪 the spice was so good and written well 💀 but all I’m saying is I better get sex with Emily and Devon or Devon joining in on the fun next book 😐🫸 I want Devon so bad but he was kind of a dick sometimes like sir we know your touch starved and horny because you refuse to join the love but don’t fucking put a cigarette out on Emily’s tongue 🙄 like you literally made her throw up. But I also felt so bad when he was like shot and Emily and the boys just left to have sex like two rooms over 😬 if I were Emily I would have like done an every other night situation where I would fuck around with Sterling and Milo then go and hang out with Devon for the next night. All these boy deserve equal amounts of love 😌 I also feel like they should have just gone with Sterling’s option and just move to a little cabin in the woods. That would be so fun. I know that might have been boring for some people but I love them all so much that I would also eat that shit up 🤭 I hope the second book Emily will get pregnant because I want all the boys to be like babying her and like giving her snuggles like that would be so cute. Or maybe it can just be in the epilogue all I know is I would have all their babies 🫡 like idk how she isn’t pregnant yet because from what was described she must have the best birth control ever. This book was also so funny like after there house was broken into by a bunch of men sterling is dancing in front of the cameras and saying “Ew, nuh-uh. I’m covered in blood.”💁🏻‍♂️✨ like sir 😂 there were so many moments of me just like laughing out loud at a book. I probably looked crazy ✌️oh and at the begging of the book the like recap was so useful. Also the ending was so good I loved how it was like shocking and good enough for me to preorder the next book but not a fucking cliff hanger. the amount of cliff hangers I’ve read recently is pushing me to insanity’s. Also loved the way Emily went total badass at the end. I would have done worse than she did but I guess she’s a better person than I am🤭 I feel like when ever I read mafia spicy book I never like fall in love with the characters and I don’t think about it after I finish it but I’m definitely going to and already have thought about this book a lot 🤭

Welp book two in this series definitely took us for a ride. I still really like and enjoy the series, but this book wasn't quite as good as the first.

Plot wise, the book was ok. We took off quickly in the beginning picking up where book two left off. A lot kinda happened, and then it was pretty slow in the middle. The middle mostly felt like a lot of spice and not much plot wise or even character development wise. We did get some growth in the relationship between Milo and Sterling. But I feel like Devon is still out of the loop and I'm irritated we didn't get more development with him and Emily. We got like little snippets but the slow burn is just getting frustrating at this point.

We did get a lot of changes with Emily as her roll with the guys and in the mafia changes. I liked most of it. The end frustrated me a little. To me it felt like she was really growing into her mafia roll and her roll with the guys, but the author seems to be possibly playing it off more as her emotionally breaking down. And I'm kinda not down with that. I want to see her as a strong and ruthless badass woman. She has been that for a lot. Yeah there has been some gagging and cringing at certain aspects, but I feel like it's mostly been her changing and liking her new role. But now all of a sudden she is too emotional and breaking down? Bleh.

The spice has been excellent. We got a lot of group play and a good amount of MM which I love. I love that we got to see Milo and Sterlings relationship grow.

And I do love the amount of humor we get in the books. The joking and laughing. Mixed in with all the other heavy moments. I like that there is comfort and trust with the characters. And that they do feel like a family.

I'm interested to see how the next book will play out. The main conflict seems like it's over, and it will be more of seeing how the turnover plays out, and how the characters will heal from the events. I want Emily to be strong, but I have a feeling the entire next book is gonna be her and Devon being emotional and damaged and I dunno if I'm gonna enjoy that as much...

I may have binge read this entire series over the course of a week and a half so forgive me if the reviews blend into each other a bit. It's hard to keep everything separated.

Solace, the first book in this series, sets the stage for Emily to find her place with her new family of hot mafia men. When Emily discovers her politician husband cheating on her, she takes matters into her own hands and leaves him. In the course of this she takes a woman she met in a salon up on her offer of helping Emily disappear. Cue a mafia kidnapping by 3 objectively hot men. Emily adjusts to this new life but also finds herself changing in both good and potentially dangerous ways.

So onto SPITE, book 2. The spice ramps up in book 2 and 3. Spite is told from Emily and Milo's POV's. I really enjoy how all the characters are very distinct in their personalities. The group is working through their relationship dynamics, trying to decide what each will do now that the family business is on shaky foundations, and facing some of their own personal demons.

The author is fantastic about providing content guidance for every book and a nice summary in the beginnings of book 2 and 3 to catch readers up on previous events. Also I would like to applaud the author on the fact that I never had to reread a spice scene to figure out who was where or what body part was where. It all read very smoothly no matter the number of participants.

There's quite a bit of mafia shenanigans but I did find this series focuses heavily on the characters journeys and the building of their relationship with the mafia stuff as the tension and danger aspect in the plot.

(I received a free ARC copy)
Solace is one of my favorite reads of the year. Cat throws comedy gold in her books while also being smutty, action packed, plot driven and her characters have amazing character development. (Literally all of what I love in a book.)

Spite was just as amazing as Solace. We pick up where we left off in book 1 with so many more twist and turns.

•Emilys character development in this book was my favorite. Her trauma and the betrayal she faced in book 1 really just smacks her in the face in book 2 and changes a lot of things.
•Milo is my Spencer Reid with all his rambling, random comments and tech savvy.
•Sterling is the big teddy bear with the most amazing aftercare but also would not hesitate to 💀 someone. •Devon is essentially mafia don type so he’s the one making sure everything/everyone is doing their part. They are all very different but together they are all the same underneath.

Anything cat writes, i will read!

Loved this sequal! I was lucky enough to recieve an arc for book 1 (i then bought it) and now book 2.

It has more of what I loved in the first book but it's mostly from Milos pov (he's my fav) !

Emily has so much growth in this book, emotionally, sexually, mentally, it was brilliant.

We still get the rom-com vibes at times but more gritty then the first book in my opinion.

I cannot wait for book 3 as think itllbe more from Devons' pov and I can't wait to get to know him better.

If you like...
- mafia romance
- romcom vibes
- morally grey men
- why choose
- 🐝 dsm
- kink
- older characters (30)
- character growth
- good writing

Then I would definitely recommend giving this series a go!

5 STARS! The perfect mix of Spicy, Emotional, Funny, Heartfelt, and Found Family!

Spite is the second book following Solace, and I couldn’t put it down. The story line continues seamlessly, and we get to know more about Milo with his and Emily’s pov. But more than just Emily and Milo, we really get to see so much of Emily’s developing relationship with all 3 boys. This book had me feeling spicy one moment, to on the edge of my seat the next!

The evolution of these characters just keeps getting better. It's just so satisfying to see Devon, Milo, and Sterling start to really settle into their relationship with Emily but also the relationships that they have with each other. The Milo x Sterling dynamic is perfection. And with Emily relationship with Devon being so slow burn, it keeps the pacing steady and the story itself interesting.

I can't help but enjoy this. It's over the top. It's ridiculous. And it's fun. This is truly a well done, reverse harem mafia romance. The plot is dark but the men aren't abusive. They don't hate Emily. They don't treat her like an animal.

The plot overall is definitely moving. It's has a very well done pace when alongside the relationship building and smut. I'm so excited for the 3rd and final book.
