This was a great little read, any and every parent should have it as a handy companion to read at bedtime to their little one. It's a fun little, sleep time book with really nice rhymes and beautiful illustrations for kids sure to guide them into a helpful pattern of falling to sleep.
This is a cute book to help children relax for bed I especially love the part where it says that they love every part of themselves cause teaching a child to love themselves helps with their self esteem and helps with it for when they get older too.
My five year old now asks me to read this just before bedtime. Great illustrations and I love how it works down the body from head to toes! Time to activate a good night sleep and very sweet dreams!
Cute and beautifully illustrated story about using gratitude to unwind a child’s busy mind from head to toe. Read it to your little ones during your next bedside story time.
Cute read. My child is a little young for this book, looking forward to reading with her as she gets older. It's a nice reminder to relax the mind and appreciate what our bodies do.
Love the idea!!! For those parents who have wiggly wiggly kids, this book helps! Not only with your kid being still and falling asleep but for your wrecked nerves to breathe a sigh of relief too. Great job author, very beautiful illustrations too!
What a cute and thoughtful bedtime story! Love the rhyming and illustrations. It teaches kids how to listen to their body and use techniques to calm and relax their body before going to sleep. Clever and well done!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Reedsy Discovery. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.
School, work, chores, errands, sports, hobbies, work-outs, life keeps us moving, but that doesn’t always translate into falling asleep as soon as our head hits the pillow. For many of us, our minds and bodies didn’t get the memo it’s time to power down and recharge our metaphorical batteries. We toss. We turn. We count sheep. We stare at the ceiling or watch the clock in frustration. A child who can’t sleep equals a parent who can kiss sleep goodbye, too.
The Sleep Switch is an illustrated children’s book, but adults can also benefit from the breathing and relaxation techniques. Breathe in through your nose and out your mouth, simple instructions that can make a big difference in your sleepy time routine. The writer introduced the idea of settling into a comfy sleep position and then saying good night to sixteen body parts, starting at your head and finishing with a “good night” to your toes. With every “good night” spoken, the day’s stresses and excitement get pushed further down until they disappear. A body becomes more relaxed; your head is at peace, and you are ready to enter dreamland.
As an adult, I found reading this story during the daytime relaxing. The calming words and the illustrations of children resting did cause me to yawn. For that, I recommend including the book in your nap time routine.
Amazon’s recommended reading age is between 3-9 years. That is a perfect suggested age group. The rhyme scheme would make a fantastic story for independent readers. Everyone, kids and adults, will be amazed by the beautiful, colorful illustrations, especially the glowing string lights (artist: Wathmi de Zoysa). Most importantly, this story should make falling asleep a breeze.
Read The Sleep Switch by Laurie McMillan and then enjoy the sweet sounds of your snoring child(ren).
The Sleep Switch is a calming book for readers to experience before they drift off to sleep. The author takes readers across the human body to say goodnight to each part of them. Readers can follow along with characters who participate in multiple breathing exercises and repeat kind words to their bodies. Not only will this book relax readers for a calm and peaceful slumber, but it will also teach them to love themselves and all parts of their body.

The setting of the book takes place in cozy bedrooms with soft lighting so readers can relax, and the theme incorporates self-care and self-love that teaches readers how to be kind to themselves through cute rhymes. The Sleep Switch’s characters are diverse, which will be inclusive of all young readers. The author chose soft illustrations that are relaxing to view and include darker and more relaxing colors to truly calm the reader. Overall, this is the perfect book for readers of any age to read right before they drift to sleep.
This book which is beautifully illustrated using AI technology could be a useful tool to help parent help their child go to sleep.
The advice the author gives through this book is sound advice. Breathing deeply is a good way to relax your entire body and fall asleep. Breathing in through the nose and out through the moth is another way to relax your entire body.
Many time young children do not wish to go to sleep because they are too excited and having too much fun.
This is an excellent book to get children to relax and one that will find frequent use.
This is the perfect book to read to children at bedtime. It’s not only a cute little rhyming story, but it teaches children how to breath deeply and relax each part of their body. Children will love it because it’s a fun story with colorful illustrations. Adults will love it because it will teach their children how to wind down for bed. It’s an amazing book to include in any child’s bedtime routine.
It's a book about how to sleep fast for kids, which, honestly, is pretty useful, as nobody likes being awake at 3:00 am. Unless it's Saturday tomorrow. (; It also sounds like it's useful for calming down in general. I would suggest the author to make a book about "The Anger Switch" or something. After all, if you've done it once, you can do it again, even better! Anyways, great book! 👍 55/55, for sure.
'The Sleep Switch' is a delightful story that is like reading a rhyming lullaby.
The story encourages children and readers to connect to their breath, mention a strong breathing technique that is capable of resetting our nervous system.
Wrapped up in charming and silly rhymes wishing different parts of your body goodnight.
The illustrations are vibrant and soothing at the same time. Easy to read.
The Sleep Switch is a beautifully illustrated book that teaches children to relax different muscles and body parts in preparation for sleep. Readers of Goodnight Moon would enjoy this book. My only criticism would be that the forced rhymes don't always roll off the tongue easily, and at times, the placement of the writing makes it hard to read.
This is a cute and quick story to enable parents to help kids fall asleep. It has very soothing pictures and a nice rhyme scheme as kids slowly fall asleep body part by body part. Very nicely done and perfect for helping a toddler settle down enough to drop off to sleep.
In our hyper-stimulated world, it seems more and more necessary to learn how to intentionally down-regulate, calm, and self-soothe. This book is a great tool to help guide children through a self-calming routine and put themselves to sleep.
This is a great book to help you teach your child to fall asleep easier. It uses mindfulness techniques (not talked about in the book) to help your child relax and calm themselves. This is a great book for bedtime because it gently guides your child through relaxation breathing , stretching and a kid's style twist on a body scan.
This was pretty great. A children’s nighttime book that teaches a form of mindfulness and meditation in the guise of a bedtime routine to help them sleep. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to give my kids that kind of experience, and maybe they will go on and learn to instill these kinds of exercises in more daily moments when they need it.
Sometimes my son has trouble sleeping so I thought this book might help. I just got this book so I only tried this once but it seemed to work which is wonderful. This book is actually really cute and the illustrations are very beautiful too. I highly recommend this fantastic book for your kids.
Cute book! The illustrations are both beautiful and adorable. I withheld one star only because the rhythm and rhyme of the book was klunky in spots. I felt uncertain if it was supposed to be a rhyming story or not as sometimes (but not consistently) had a natural rhyme with smooth cadence. Overall - great book!
This is a lovely book to read with your child. It offers a method for helping Kids fall asleep. The Illustrations are simply beautiful. Highly recommended as part of a bedtime ritual.
This is such a cute bedtime story for little ones that need help falling asleep fast. The illustrations and the story move along well and can help guide the child to fall asleep.
This well illustrated book gives children things they can say to each of their body parts to help 'turn on their sleep switch" to help themselves relax to go to sleep for the night. The story also rhymed.
