I'll be the black sheep amongst fellow reviewers here and say I really enjoyed this cute little book. As a novice to Astrology, I felt this was a beautiful way of explaining it all as a whole. Maybe it's the passionate Scorpio in me- but I loved having this new explanation and way of looking at it all. I'm so glad I own this one, as I found myself highlighting many parts.
I cannot stress enough that there is one metaphor in this whole book. The author compares everything to the various sections of a symphony orchestra and it is ridiculous.
I found this book super helpful in wanting to learn more about the details of astrology. Learning about love connections and the aspects of the signs is something I wasn't too familiar with before. I consider astrology and cosmic magick a big part of my craft, so finding reference books like this is so helpful!
This so went over my head. I was curious about the subject since my knowledge of zodiac is slim to none. Maybe this book wasn't a great intro, or maybe the concepts are just over my head. Regardless, I enjoy reading about things I don't know about. Maybe this subject is just not for me.
I find the study of Astrology very interesting, so I really enjoyed this book! It was very informative and I learned a lot. Also, the writing and descriptions were absolutely beautiful; there was one point where the author was introducing Earth signs, and they compared it to a cozy fall day in a very descriptive way, it was wonderful.
The information in this tiny book is great to get you started on your astrological journey. They touch on all the key points and make them accessible instead of overwhelming. My ONE complaint is the constant forced music metaphors.
Out of all the things they could have chosen to compare things to, they picked the worst one. It is not something that the majority of the audience is going to resonate with and thus the metaphors don't help in integrating your understanding of the concepts the author is talking about.
Update: It gets worse. If you are going into this with little to no knowledge of astrology, this is not the book for you. The author gets too caught up in their prose to provide succinct, accurate information. In a "little" book, you need to make the content count. I am pretty disappointed in this as a learning tool yet grateful that I bought this to add to my "little book" series.
Every other edition I have read has been great, but this one just falls so short. Please, baby witches and fledgling astrologers, look elsewhere to begin you learning and come back to this when you are just looking for something to read.
I bought this book on a whim while on vacation, and I'm glad I did. As a total ignoramus when it comes to astrology, I found this a helpful primer on the basics. Sure, Bedell is prone to florid descriptions and over-relies on a drawn-out symphony metaphor. That said, I appreciated the foundational frameworks and thought Bedell did a good job of providing just enough information without overwhelming newcomers. And I now feel like I have at least a rudimentary understanding of the astrology references in pop culture and everyday conversation, which was my goal. Not bad for a quick vacation read!
I didn’t believe in astrology before reading and I don’t now either. However, I appreciated this book. I was told that “astrology is a language” and certain way heard people yammering away in it and had no idea what they were saying. This book helped me begin to understand the verbiage and there’s a bit more logic to astrology than I expected. I’m working on learning more about spiritual world views other than the ones I grew up with and this was a digestible introduction into this new age faith.
This is a really informative book about the structure and basis of Astrology. I really liked the author's analogy between The Zodiac and An Orchestra. It worked very well. There was no flouncy language, which one usually associates with Astrologers, it's as if they have some comedic value or such like. This book has a very well written and explanatory text. I wish it had been longer than 130 pages, and I would have loved illustrations. But they are false criticisms really :)
A good introduction for beginners, it's interesting, clear and the design is really nice. It gives enough information for a beginner to decipher her birth chart and dive in a little deeper. The author uses a metaphor through the book. The whole orchestra idea is good and he keeps it from the beginning to the very end. However, I sometimes lost the point he wanted to make. It could be a nice gift for someone or just a good start for curious beginners!
This text covered astrology basics such as the luminaries and planets, the zodiac signs, houses and lunar nodes. Additionally, it discusses some of the Greek myths that are intertwined with the zodiac signs to help solidify the relationships. Astrological timings and season relationships were also included in this text. The author also discusses aspects such as conjunctions, sextiles, squares, trine, etc. Overall, this a good introduction for those who are studying astrology.
The hardcover is actually 110 pages. That said, it was very good. I loved how he compares astrology to music. The comparison works very well. I agree highly on his perspective that all signs are capable of being comparable with all signs but in different ways. The overall way the book was structured and sectioned off made reading it a joy and learning from it very easy as well as comprehensive.
Good intro into the subject. The title's just as it says, a little bit about astrology. This type of book would be ideal if you're curious about the subject, but not sure whether you'd like to learn a little more on the topic. The writing was light and cheerful to me, and I quite enjoyed the book. I might read a little more into the subject.
I have read a bunch of astrology books and really have difficulty trying to figure out how to piece it together - but this book really helped me. It breaks it down by different planets, nodes, houses, and you can look at your detailed chart and figure out the truth about your chart. Neat.
Read for ##TravelingStars2024 through Litsy, this is a quick book on astrology that does what it says & gives you a little bit of a look into the astrological signs. I don’t know that there was too much new here but I always enjoy reading about my sign.
Some basic terminology and definitions sprinkled throughout, but way too much prose and metaphor to be useful as a quick reference or intro to a subject. I felt like I could have learned as much from googling.
This book is super easy to understand. Bedell has made this Little bit of Astrology a gem. I could recommend this to a client and they would have a delightful experience with it. I say well done!
I kind of liked the book but it’s not really something for people who are beginning to learn about astrology. I loved the information but started to feel confused and lost as I kept reading.
