He’s a ghost—the deep-cover spy known only as Shade.
They generate a dangerous level of white-hot sparks, but he needs her help on a deadly mission.
Jet “Hex” Adler loves being a goddess of all thing tech. She provides her team at Sentinel Security with intel and comms, and she’s good at it. No, brilliant. Sure, sometimes it’s hard to be stuck in the office while her guys are in the field, but computers, tech, and drones are her thing. If only she had the same luck with men.
And that does not include a certain hot, cocky, annoying spy.
Cain, aka Shade, is dedicated to his country. He does the hard, dangerous work so others don’t have to. He came from nothing, he’s alone, unattached. A man like him has nothing to lose. For Cain, life is always about the mission. It can never be about a certain small, smart, feisty hacker.
But now, he needs Jet for an important assignment to stop high-tech drone schematics falling into enemy hands.
Of course, Jet will do anything to help save the world…okay, not the entire world, but a lot of innocent lives. Even if it means going undercover with the man who knows how to push every one of her buttons. But as they work together, dodging danger and bad guys, their scorching attraction explodes, and Cain will realize that for the first time in his life that someone is more important to him than his mission.

Hex is the sixth book in the Sentinel Security series by Anna Hackett. This romantic suspense features a security team known as Sentinel Security. When one of their own has been threatened then everyone gets on board to take the bad guy down. Hex is the best hacker and he is the best dark ops there is now they just have to keep each other alive and the fun begins. It has it all to make it a heart-stopping, action-filled tale. With lots of chemistry, tension, intrigue, drama, danger, mystery, and more.
I've been looking forward to reading Hex's book. I liked her character from the previous books in this series and I think she's a badass heroine.
Jet/Hex is a hacker for Sentinel security and Cain/Shade is a CIA spy. They've met before in the previous books and the attraction is very much obvious. In this book, it's a deep dive into that attraction and their relationship.
The story revolves around a chip that contains confidential data on drones that can be harmful if it landed in the wrong hands. Sentinel security and the CIA were working together to stop this exchange and to find out the buyer for the chip. Jet pretended to be an employee from the company that owns the chip and Cain is her colleague.
This is an action packed story and had me flipping through pages so quickly. The suspense and heart stopping scenes are to be expected and I really enjoyed them. But I liked it the most when the good side always prevailed at the end.
As for romance, since they've known each other the tension and chemistry are already there. But since Cain worked alone for most of his life he thought he was not enough for Jet. He did try to push her at the beginning but then she never gave up on him. She showed him how the two of them can work together and that he deserves her just as much as she deserves him. She didn't come off as clingy or needy but rather as a feisty and go getter heroine who knows what she wants. Tbf, Cain really wanted to be with Jet but his lifestyle and the teaching of his previous mentor is still burned at the back of his head. He taught him that getting associated with someone is a weakness and it's better to work alone. Thank God, it didn't take a long time for Cain to get his head out of his ass and that he finally acknowledged that he and Jet are inevitable.
Overall, I liked the writing style even though it's in the third POV. The plot is decent and easy to follow even if readers haven't read the books of this series in order. The characters are likeable and not annoying, and most especially the smut scenes were hooot. I enjoyed reading it and I really loooove the bonus epilogue. This is a great ending for the series. ♥️
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
We’ve been waiting for Hex to have her story and we’ve seen glimpses on Shade throughout the series. All the usual drama expected with Sential security.
Can’t wait for the new series and the epilogue was amazing a good glimpse into the further and future books hopefully
Four and a half Another fun, spicy book about Sentinel Security and this time finally Jet gets let out to play ! The computer expert has been playfully reacting to Cain aka Shade in the last couple of stories so it was fabulous to read their story as it combines hot (as in melt your kindle ! ) times coupled with great action. I feel this might be the last we see of Sentinel Security for a while but they sure do go out in style and yes I still find all the nicknames irritating but I really enjoyed this book and Jet was quite simply my favourite heroine . So in conclusion I happily recommend this if you want steam, drama and a whole lot of fun ! This voluntary take is of an advanced copy and my thoughts and comments are honest and I believe fair
This last book in the Sentinel Security series has been teased – as has its heroine Jet “Hex” Adler – from the earliest days in the series when she, and we, were introduced to CIA undercover operative Shade, as he gave the occasional assist to his former CIA colleagues Killian “Steel” Hawke and Devyn “Hellfire” Hayden on their way to their HEA in Steel.
When her story opens, Hex is the only member of the Sentinel Security team who hasn’t found somebody to love. She’s been burned more than once by too many men who only seem to be interested in her for the ways they can change her, with Brandon the douche having been the worst of the lot.
Brandon left her psyche with a few scars, and left Hex with the uncompromised desire to find someone who will love her exactly as she is, smarts, sass, petite cuteness and everything else in her sometimes contradictory package.
She doesn’t think Cain Cavanaugh, AKA Shade, could possibly be that man. Which doesn’t explain why, in spite of his dark codename, he lights up her hormones every time they cross paths or even just exchange annoying texts.
But there’s a job to do, as there always is for Sentinel Security. And for once in her career, both with the CIA and now with Sentinel Security, Hex is going to be the one going undercover instead of staying safe and managing all the tech that keeps the rest of her team and found family as safe as she can make them.
She’s off to an international tech conference to exchange a stolen data chip for a high-level sting on the evil broker who plans to sell it to the highest – and equally evil – villain. With Shade as her partner keeping her safe from everyone who is out to get her – especially himself.
A job at which he is both not exactly successful and utterly unsuccessful at the same time. But that’s OK because Hex is perfectly capable of rescuing herself from the bad guys – and doesn’t feel any need whatsoever to protect herself from Shade.
Escape Rating A-: The previous book in this series, Excalibur, just wasn’t the tropes I was looking for, for reasons that I don’t need to get into here.
Very much, and very happily, on my other hand, Hex turned out to be EXACTLY what I was hoping for, with its badass hacker heroine who rescues herself, and the even more badass man who is certain that he’s got too much blood on his hands from too many dark places to be remotely worthy of her.
Of course, he’s right and wrong at the same time. He might not quite be worthy of her, and possibly no one is – I really loved Hex – but he is a worthy man and he’s what she wants and he should definitely know better than to stand in her way. It was terrific watching him figure that out – finally – so they could both take a chance on love. Just like the rest of the members of the Sentinel Security team have done through the course of the series.
Now that Killian Hawke (Steel) and his handpicked team have finally found their HEAs, the action shifts to the Fury Brothers in the author’s next action-adventure romance series, coming in September.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to her next science fiction romance (always my personal faves), Knighthunter, book 2 of the Oronis Knights series, coming OMG NEXT MONTH! Squee!
Anna Hackett, writes magic. MAGIC. Hex’s story is a long anticipated one for me and I am always a bit scared to be disappointed, but thankfully Anna is Anna and she brought it home.
We all know Hex as super hacker, she is just this amazing person, who goes through fire for her team. Super spy Shade is always on the outskirts of the Sentinel team, but it is high time he was brought in.
I really liked the banter and flirtation between them, the way they easily fit together. The romance hit all the feels. It was really spicy and also super action-packed! Just how we liked it.
I can’t wait to see what mrs Hackett has planned for us next <3
I wanted to read them since striker and I knew it would be this good, so reviewing just after reading, a bit sad that, the series ends!
Hex is our hacker expert in Sentinel Security in New York, best at finding anything and everything. She has a flirty duel with Devyn's friend, CIA Deep cover agent Shade, and she wants him, but hesitant because of her past and her ex boyfriend's cheating.
Shade is our scary assassin, most people fear, and known to disappear. His only motive in life is to protect the country. But when he met Jet, he feels different. He calls her 'pixie', wants to posses her but feels he doesn't deserve her. He kisses her but regrets it, he wants to stay away but he needs her for a mission.
For national security, Hex and Shade go undercover to Paris to meet the buyer who wants the chip with swarm drone technology and the minute they land, Hex gets kidnapped. Hex escapes, finds Shade while he was worried for her. After that, he confesses he wants her and further more, they fell for each other hard.
And my favorite Killian🔥 is there throughout as the protective brother to Hex and guiding Cain.
So when things turn out bad and Hex handed over the chip in Geneva, they get lucky with more information about the sale and from that to when Shade confesses his love, the twists keeps you on the edge🥵
I can't get over yet ❤️ so go find out what happened. Happy to meet Vander 😘 again and others 😊
Jet and Caine has had explosive chemistry in other books and I have been waiting for their story and it was not a disappointment. Loved it! Jet even got to leave her cave and see some action. Also highly recommend reading the bonus scene as well!
Hex, kickass h and Sentinel Security's hacker queen. A few years prior her ex said some things, that have stuck with her. And she doesn't believe that she will find that love, like her friends have.
...and then all that changes when she finds herself in close freaking proximity with Shade...
Due to her knowledge of all things tech, she goes undercover with the dangerous undercover spy Shade. And the sparks fly like crazy!!!
Shade, his life hasn't been easy, he lives for the mission, doing the worst of the worst to protect his country. And love has been non existent for him, believing that he must be alone.
And then he goes undercover with Hex and everything changes, his feelings for her are growing every moment and damn he is protective / possessive as hell 🔥
Hex and Shades book, is one I have been anticipating since we got that hint of them at the end of Striker, and it has been 🔥🔥 ever since.
The chemistry was intense with some steamy moments with a dirty talking hero, add in dangerous bad guys, and on the edge f****** moments, was just one hell of a page turner.
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬
Sentinel Security team 💜 loved seeing all of them in this one...
And Killian going all over protective brother in this one 🥵🔥
Shade is known as a cold, calm, ruthless and deadly agent that nobody wants to meet in the shadows, but Hex just finds him irritatingly sexy, infuriatingly smug and the only one who revs her motor....but he is untouchable, distant and....looking at her with heat and need! Hex is the only one that has ever shaken Shade, she makes him hungry, needy and shatters his concentration. She makes him want things that are impossible....or are they? I love seeing the cool, calm and confident Shade rattled and confused, and I love that Hex is strong enough to call him out in his fears, to challenge him and to love him...is he strong enough to stay, for her, for them? I am sad this is the end of Sentinel Security (for now) but very excited that we are getting two new spin off series, the first with the dark and dangerous Fury brothers and the second with the broken but gorgeous Boone and his beautiful K9 partner. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Hex is amazing. She has been in all the books and her talent and sass and humor are staples to the series. I loved seeing her get her HEA and show how strong she is for and with Cain. An added bonus to this story is seeing all the members of Sentinel and some appearances from Norcross team and the Billionaires trilogy🙌🏻 The epilogues were epic and I loved the notes about upcoming series. A fast paced and fantastic read!
As much as I want this series to go on forever, this was the perfect way for it to end. There was all the action you’d expect from this series along with a journey that spanned from New York to Paris to Switzerland and New Orleans. It was also one of the steamiest books in the series.
Cain “Shade” and Jet “Hex” have been circling each other in the background of this series, but their romance finally comes to a head when Shade needs Hex to go undercover with him. I loved the push and pull of their relationship and the mutual pining. Shade was at the top of his career in the CIA and had never had anyone else to rely on, but he found himself unable to stop his feelings towards Hex. Hex had been burned in the last and felt like the cute little sister that was never going to find a man to put her first. Together, Hex and Shade smoothed the edges of their insecurities and found something more important than any job.
The action in this book had me on the edge of my seat. It was so well written that I felt like I could visualize it as if I was watching a movie. I loved the heart pounding moments just as much as the slower moments of reflection between Hex and Shade. I loved that the entire Sentinel Security team was included in this story.
This was a perfect wrap up to this series, including the bonus epilogue which had me laughing with how the Sentinel team ended up down the road. I loved that the Norcross team was included in the end and that we have a glimpse of the next two series Anna has planned in this world. Can’t wait for Boone Hendrix and the Fury Brothers!
It’s been a while since I read this series but I swear the writing was better.
This one feels so off. I can’t put my finger on exactly why, but I feel like the story is being dumped on me with stinted facts and anecdotes and I’m never really immersed in the characters thoughts or choices. I’d have to go back and check if the others are like this, but it’s also told in 3rd person perspective and then occasionally (forgets) in first. That’s throwing me the most I believe. The story feels so cold and detached from any emotion.
Also, I don’t really remember the previous books very well, but their love story def began in a previous book and the author does not spend any time recapping, so for me it feels like they rushed into this with out any emotional development.
Also for spies, they fail to use their code names the entire time. And there is not much spy business going on. More of a jump in and hope it works out.
The story is also weak, if you have something of great value to sell off, and a ton of money on the line and others looking to get their hands on said item, you don’t play games and waltz around a foreign country with it wrapped around your neck just to end up traveling to a second country to make the trade. No one would do that. They’d get the product and leave. Very simple. No games or mystery necessary. They’d want the product pronto. Secondly, the whole purpose of this mission is to find out who the bad guy is but there are quickly more then one so what’s the point? Bring down the bad guy? But which?!
I can’t even finish this one. It’s pretty bad writing.
As always, if you read a series by Anna Hackett, every character leaves a desire to read their own story. Hex is the culmination after all her colleagues have found their HEAs. We've been given small taste here and there in previous books, a very significant moment in Bram and Addie's story. So reading one book and loving it, I'm dying to read the next - it's a never ending thirst. I'm completely ok with this obsession.
Hex, the Sentinel Security hacker, pink-hair-tipped tech badass wants her own HEA but hasn't had the best lack with love so far. Careful with her heart, she still goes all in for the mission - the actual mission and love. She's matched by Cain, the CIA legend by codename Shade, who's sure his life will be forever be one dangerous spy assignment after another, risking life with no one by his side. But as they fight to save lives and kick villain ass, their attraction is impossible to resist and it grows into more.
I loved every word and might've choked on a tear or two, reading the bonus epilogue which starred all of Sentinel Security main heroes, their significant others, kids upon kids and special Norcross stars. As has become tradition, I will be rereading a combination of all Anna Hackett's books until another one makes their debut - either Boone's story or freshly introduced Dante Fury of Fury Brothers.
Jet Adler, aka Hex, is the computer wizard and hacker extraordinaire for Sentinel Security, and she’s the one woman that Cain, aka CIA operative Shade, can’t ignore. She’s also the woman he needs to go undercover to help catch the people trying to sell state secrets. Jet is attracted to Cain, and he to her, but the middle of an undercover operation doesn’t seem the wisest place to conduct a romance. But when danger comes for her, Cain finds himself torn between duty, and the need to keep her safe…
This final book in the Sentinel Security manages to pair together the unlikely duo of CIA agent and hacker, whilst rounding out the adventures of the characters we have come to know and love. The main story is action filled, fast paced, and littered with danger- making for an exciting tale for romantic suspense and action adventure lovers. The epilogue does a great job of letting us know about everyone in the series a little down the road, which is an added bonus for series fans (with a few Norcross cameos for Hacketteers). It’s a great read for those who want a fast paced, action adventure romance, and for those who have followed the Norcross and/or Sentinel Security series.
Jet, Sentinel Security's cyber expert has been dreaming about Cain for a while. However, this CIA undercover specialist code named Shade is hard to pin down. Then they need to work together to keep important drone information from the wrong hands. This is much more up close and personal than Jet (Hex) is used to. Can they stop the bad guys in time? Can they keep their hands off each other and their heads in the game? Read this to find out, and hold onto your seat. It will be a bumpy ride!
The pace is breakneck and the tone is uncertain yet hopeful with an action and character oriented storyline that has some steamy scenes. The characters are vivid and kickass. I love these books by Anna Hackett! You need to read this we in order, but will get more out of this if you read the Treasure Hunter Security series in order, then Team 52 series in order, then I think the Billionaire series, Norcross Security and finally this one! All of them are action packed and give some introduction to the next series. So we now know this is the last official Sentinel Security book, with Fury series starting soon. And Anna has said that Boone will get his own story before long too! Woo hoo! I can't wait!
I borrowed Hex ~ Sentinel Security ~ Book 6, by Anna Hackett, author from the Kindle Unlimited Program on Amazon.
Jet "Hex" Adler, the computer goddess of Sentinel Security and Cain "Shade" Cavanaugh, the undercover spy for CIA have been eyeing each other for a while until he kissed her, not once but twice. They were the two best kisses of her life, he has started to send her sassy emails that she answers with just as much sass. A relationship starts with lots of questions and unresolved future dreams.
He needs Hex to come on a mission with him as an expert of drone technology as new highly secretive drone technology is in danger of being sold to unknown enemies of the US. Off to France for a great adventure.
I loved how Hex, preprogramed her biggest drone, hung on the bottom of it and flew into a burning boathouse to save a trapped Shade from an explosion. Loved the Pixie's high tech expert goddess with all her super skills and how much it turned on the hot super spy she called Bond. Great ending to the series with each having an epilogue at the end to show some of the future for this tight group of hot men and brave women. (Also loved the kids in the last epilogue, especially the three-year-old roof climber.
Tech goddess Jet ‘Hex’ Adler decided she only lacked a life partner for an ideal life. Legendary CIA agent Cain ‘Shade’ Cavanaugh, whose name was spoken in fearful whispers in their dangerous, shadowy work world suited Hex’ mind, heart and eyes if he was in the market. Shade wished he was good enough for Hex, the only woman who could break his focus.
Shade’s latest assignment needs a guru with Hex’ skill set, able to talk stealth drone tech to find and eliminate both seller ad buyer. Within 10 minutes of landing in France, Hex is kidnapped! Hex escapes but not before Shade informs Killian and Devyn who’re on the next plane. Discovering the job is more layered than they thought and the entire team is called in.
This reader was pleased with the outing with the exception of knowing it was the series swan song. Shade and Hex were a good couple, the action was good with a twist and the few successful suspense scenes were great fun to my taste. Rating: 4.25stars
I have been waiting on pins and needles for this story just knowing that Anna was going to make it scorching, and she delivered! I absolutely have loved He’d from the beginning, and was rooting for her and Cain ever since he was introduced into the story line of Sentinel. Cain is the extremely dangerous spy known as Shade, and Jet “Hex”is Sentinel Security’s computer genius. Immediately there are sparks flying between these two. Hex is willing to explore things, but Cain is hesitant. His job is dangerous and he’s done things that he’s not proud of. Hex is determined to fight for him and prove to him that he’s worthy of love. Things are ridiculously spicy between these two, but there’s also so many emotional moments with them that really show how they are just meant for each other. I definitely recommend this book, and this whole series!
Loved this story and the continued Sentinel Security series!
Jet "Hex" is the super hacker and tech goddess for Sentinel Security. She's quirky, beautiful and a tiny little thing. She's had a not so tiny thing for the "Shade", the ever mysterious CIA officer and all-around badass for awhile now. What Jet doesn't know is how much he wants her too! But in Shade's world, relationships are a liability and he's hesitant to start anything with his "pixie" that he's not able to finish.
A mission puts these two badasses together and where there is smoke... They couldn't put out this fire if they wanted to and frankly no one does!
Fantastic read! Great suspense, great sexy times and such great characters. Absolutely loved these characters and seeing my favorites again!
Shade and Hex finally, and it was everything I wanted! Jet "Hex" is the only thing capable of pulling Cain "Shade" out of the shadows he's accustomed to into the bright sunlight of a life full of everything he dares not dream of. The two have been dodging their chemistry for a bit now, but when he needs her help it forces them to face it all. A fiesty, strong Sentinel agent determined to show her man he is worth it all, and a tough, scary CIA agent who will burn the world to protect her finally let the sparks fly...and then they ignite. Amidst the danger, action, and edge of your seat suspense there are scenes that bring all the emotions as these two fight to get a chance to see what their HEA could look like. Stella Bloom and Teddy Hamilton do an excellent job bringing this story to life. Side note, if you can get your hands on the bonus epilougue (digital extra through the ebook/Anna'snewsletters) do so because it so great.
Loved this story and the continued Sentinel Security series!

Cain Cavanaugh, code name Shade is a deep cover agent for the CIA and is the best of the best. He was told by his mentor that he will never be able to have a close relationship because it would be dangerous for him to love someone.
Cain has been pushing boundaries with the hot little goddess of all things tech at Sentinel Security. Jet “Hex” Adler is a brilliant hacker and is in charge of securing all the intel for Sentinel, so sometimes crosses paths with Shade and sparks fly.
This is the final book in the Sentinel series, and I really looked forward to the story about Hex. Lots of heat and lots of adventure in all of these stories. They don’t have to be read as a series, as each is it’s own standalone story.
I just love Anna's writing. There is so much action, and pizzazz and romance and steam ...hot steam. the once pace just kept rolling along, and there wasn't a pause. nor for a minute. I just love hearing all my favourites coming back to join the angst. especially since hex is the last in the series. it was nice to jetset to some shmancy places, and rub elbows with the rich. I wondered how Anna was going to get these 2 together as Shade....well...is Shade. and he loved his job. hex is so strong and sassy, and I'm glad she pushed shade over the edge. it'll be sad not to hear of the awesome team, but anna has made sure they live HEA Teddy and Stella...just perfect. And to top it off Anna has introduced us to the Fury Brothers
I've read all six of the Sentinel Security books and loved, loved, loved, each and everyone equally. I loved Hex (Jet) and Shade (Cain) 's story, especially as it's about (I think) the real back bone of this awesome team of gorgeous, passionate, caring and loving guys. Hex is down to earth, loyal, caring and beautiful both on the inside as well as the outside. Anna Hackett has become my new favourite romance author. Her books has everything, good story line, excitement, suspense, romance (not too heavy on the sex scenes). I 100% recommend reading the series in order as you get to find out how the previous characters are getting on. I truly thank you Anna Hackett.
Hex is the sixth book in the Sentinel Security series by Anna Hackett. This is a fab romantic suspense story with a deep operative spy, a hacker pulled into his dangerous mission, plenty of action, danger, chemistry, spice, tension, intrigue, emotion, mystery, and high stakes. This is Jet (Hex) and Cain's (Shades) story- and if you love romantic suspense, then you might want to pounce on this book/series to explore asap. Each book in the series follows a different member/operative of Sentinel Security, so the instalments can be read as standalones if you wanted. But be prepared, after reading one you just might find you develop the need to read them all. Looking forward to Book #7. Happy Reading...
Sentinel Security book 6. An amazing way to end a fanfreakingtastic series. This book has everything in it and then some. Hex aka computer guru for the gods falls for Shade, the ultimate super spy/assassin/undercover Lord of lords. They have what the other needs. A mission makes them face their insecurities and feelings for each other. This book is gritty, sexy, angsty and hopeful. So awesome to see the whole crew and some characters from other series. Love love love me some Killian, and Vander Norcross now add Cain aka Shade to this magnificent list. I definitely need a book on Dante Fury and his brothers.
I knew going in this was going to be the hardest book in the series for me. I’ve never really liked Hex in any of the other books, so I wasn’t really looking forward to her story. Good news: it was better than I though! I liked Cain a lot and Hex did kind of grow on me after a while. Bad news: this book like several in this series didn’t have the magic of the Norcross books that drew me to Anna’s writing in the first place. The story and the characters were still good, but I wouldn’t buy paperbacks of these to reread. Here’s hoping the new New Orleans series has some of that old magic.
