I always come back my trips to Europe wanting to take a European history course but since the local community college isn't offering any & I'm not going to pay $800+ per credit anywhere else, I figure a used book a bought from Amazon for a few bucks is a great alternative. 50 pages in I've already covered the Middle Ages through the Italian and Northern Renaissance and the Protestant Reformation. This is fun!!
A very thorough introduction to modern history as well as can be expected from the 500+ pages as is contained within this book. Some familiarity is encouraged as major events are summarized in small detail however it is not absolutely required to get an intuitive grip on the events discussed.
(Note I don't like the star rating and as such I only rate books based upon one star or five stars corresponding to the in my opinion preferable rating of thumbs up/down. This later rating system encourages in my opinion the degree to which the reader is likely to read a review instead of merely glancing at the number of stars)
This book wasn't bad. It is simply a somewhat detailed timeline of European history leading up until just before the fall of the USSR. Hopefully it is going to help me with my AP European History test.
I loved that this book so concisely summarized the important events of modern European History. I just wish that the book had been updated to discuss such contemporary topics as the European Union.
