Ella has made the decision that it is time to leave her boyfriend and his abusive ways, and takes the radical course of leaving the UK for a new life in America. Deciding her best course of action is to leave the medical profession for a while, she applies to an au pair agency.

After interviewing with Carter to look after his eight year son Jagger, she finds that her attraction to the recently divorced father is going to be more difficult to navigate than looking after a whirlwind of a child.

As their relationship develops behind closed doors, their exes are scheming to pull them apart. their connection grows so does something else but neither expect their exes to be scheming to pull them apart.

This is a well written story of a second chance to find love, whilst forces around them try to tear them apart. You are drawn into the lives of Ella, Carter, and Jagger (who is adorable) as their chemistry and relationship develops but amongst this is the obsession of their exes, secrets and danger.

‘Tangled Trust’ is my first Lydia Hall romance and she did a fantastic job with her story, narrative, and dialogue. Ella is such a sweetheart and Carter is an amazing person: both personalities came through the skillful writing. Add in his son, Jagger, and the whole picture is close to perfect. Her abusive ex and his crazy ex turn their perfect relationship on its heels with her scheming and his aggression. Thank goodness for Carter’s belief in Ella!

I loved the British slang, the interactions with Ella’s aunt and girlfriend were funny and poignant at times, and Carter’s family was wonderful. Carter and Ella have some steamy sexy interactions and Lydia used a very naughty tone to convey their emotions and passion. Their relationship needed a little more communication on Ella’s part. I loved the ending and can’t wait to find more from this author!.

Ella left her medical practice in London and her abusive ex. Carter is recently divorced with son Jagger and a jealous ex. Ella comes to the U.S. and becomes a nanny to Jagger. Ella and Carter soon have fireworks igniting and things look great - until the two exes start to put roadblocks in their way to being happy. The characters are terrific and the storyline really keeps the tension and intrigue up while also having a heartwarming connection for the couple. Jagger is totally adorable. Plenty of drama, danger, jealousy, hidden agendas, secrets, revelations, steamy moments, entertaining situations, and more that kept the pages turning. Totally enjoyed this book.

I thought this book was entertaining. Ella runs away from an abusive relationship to the other side of the word and becomes an au pair. Her boss Carter is super handsome and his little boy Jagger is adorable. As Ella falls in love with Jagger, she and Carter develop feeling for each other. This relationship is complicated with crazy exes and these two have so much to overcome to get to their HEA. I really liked the main characters and found them quite sweet. I think the thing that threw me the most in this book as it switches POVs without warning and sometimes I have to pause and re-orient as who it can be.

This was my first book by this author. Overall I enjoyed the story and the characters, what ruined it for me were the errors. Carter was referred to as Mr Moore and Mr Cooper, often in the same paragraph, this is very poor and happened throughout the book. Some of the timelines were skewed as well. There was one where Jagger was with his mum for 10 days and then the next day they were expecting him home from school, it didn't make sense. Also, I hated the way Ella would refer to him as her lover especially during the love scenes, it was weird. If it wasn't for these issues I would have rated the book much higher.

I am an ABSOLUTE HUGE fan of this authors writing and she can really draw you into the book like you are an actual character itself. I thought that Ella and Carter's past was sad, but I was glad to see that they both overcame everything and fell in love. I love the happily ever after ending even when the book has a lot of suspense in it. I wish I could give this book more than 5 stars because I would it that's great of a book.

Distracting language

I appreciate the trust between the protagonists and the drama free response to truth telling. There were parts, such as the ending, that were frustratingly unrealistic responses to situations. Plus, it is meant to take place in California, but every thought and spoken word was British for the American characters. When writing, it’s so important to consider how speech is part of setting, and the lack of intention around language was incredibly distracting. There were a lot of eye rolls as I read.

3-3.5✨
