Devour the Sun: A Bloodless Saga

Rate this book

“Devour the Sun” merges the post-apocalyptic chaos and high-octane action of "Mad Max: Fury Road" with the origin story and power struggles of "Dracula Untold." It is a best-selling paranormal, dark fantasy, romance in a dystopian war-torn setting. With themes including war, violence, and adult situations, this adult book is not suitable for readers under 18. Please check the Reader's Advisory before reading.

She watched it fall.

The peace she’d built brick by brick, the family she’d cultivated over the centuries, the home she’d finally found. It’s all gone. Burned to ash by the Rebel Vampire King.

Sigríð Storråda never wanted to be a hero. Left with a country fallen to despair, she is left with a choice. To do nothing would mean the death of all who remained and waging war against a tyrannical vampire regime may just be what Sigríð needs. In her relentless pursuit to dismantle the oppressive crown, an encounter with Alex, a daring scientist executing forbidden experiments on vampires, turns the tables on Sigríð in more ways than one.

"Devour the Sun" weaves a paranormal dark fantasy tapestry where alliances arise from the ashes of a once-peaceful kingdom, forbidden love emerges amidst the ruins, and Sigrid's unyielding spirit sparks a rebellion that will reshape their world forever.

When it comes to books, Bri Mooney can't pick a lane. She's a mood reader and writer, letting her imagination lead her to new worlds, characters, and stories. The one thing you can always expect when you pick up her books are some delicious grey morals, magic, and myths.

Between the shifter-vampire squabbles, alien ship landings, and coven meetings life in the woods with three cats is rarely the quiet. And to the nun who told me I'd never excel at writing...hah.

I was lucky enough to get this as an ARC.
Although this is the second book it happens before Swallow The Moon… and wish it had come out before!
Learning more about Sigrid was great and gave me more of an understanding to who she really is.
The relationships she had and the friendships and camaraderie that was made is beautiful and shows the endless possibilities and potential Sigrid had envisioned with King Carl.

Devour the Sun is the prequel to Swallow the Moon, and can be read first. The story follows Sigrid through fleeing and rebuilding with refugees in tow. Sigrid is one of the most reluctant leaders I have ever seen, which means she is also the best for her people. There is a ton of action that is well thought out and furthers the plot quite well. My only complaint is that time passed is not denoted which for me was slightly disorienting, there would often be years skipped in the blink of an eye, something normal for an immortal, but confusing for the reader. It didn’t distract enough to take away from the story but it did pop me out of the book the first time it happened.
I received an arc of this and am leaving this review of my own volition.

I love Sigrid with all of my heart, and seeing her rise to influence was such an awesome experience!
"Devour the Sun" is the prequel to "Swallow the Moon" and helps us understand how the rebellion came to be and how Sigrid became its leader.
This book is action packed, full of steamy and emotional moments, and has excellent queer rep from our bi/pan vampire queen. If you're looking for excellent platonic friendship, this is the book for you. If you're looking for heartache, this is the book for you. If you're looking for nonstop action, and a world that grows as time stretches within the narrative, this is the book for you!
It's dystopian, it's paranormal, it's queer, its got an AuDHD FMC!
I can't put to words how much I loved this book, but I did so read it.
