More than 40 trans writers and artists have joined forces to explore the deeper meanings of the Fast & Furious franchise (and also gender). There's really no way to know why this exists, but it does, and you can own it! Suitable for F&F fans and newcomers alike. Contributions include:
A new short story by Manhunt author Gretchen Felker-Martin
A demolition derby driver’s perspective on 2 Fast 2 Furious’s derby scene
An essay contemplating the queer symbolism of Cipher’s bowl cut
The scoop on the franchise’s only canonically nonbinary character
Instructions for an F&F-themed tabletop roleplaying game
A contemplation of which Taylor Swift album represents each F&F character
Plus: Bingo cards! Comics! Haiku! And, of course, hot gay erotica…
Absolute perfection. This is why I love trans people lol. I discovered this anthology when browsing the Lambda award nominees, then found out that it’s out of print, but managed to find a copy on ebay for a ridiculously high shipping price - fully worth it though.
Also oh my god gretchen felker-martin wrote the most brilliant piece of body horror fanfiction for this book - the book is worth it for that piece alone.
I laughed, I cried, I sent way too many quotes and pictures to my anti-car bike friend group chats. Car culture is bad, but these movies... are very good
FANTASTIC!!! Absolutely one of the best zines I’ve read to date. I love f&f! I love trans ppl! You legit cannot get better than this, people!!! Cannot wait to share with friends & cannot wait to read again :)
Took me on a wild ride from beginning to end. Loved reading so many stories and thoughts from so many incredible contributors. Thank you to Tuck and Niko for making this a reality I didn’t know I needed. I still haven’t seen a single one of these movies.
An absolutely delightful collection of essays, poems, goofs, and the gnarliest body horror story I have ever read. 10/10 will read over and over again!
I know everyone is saying this, but I literally laughed and cried while reading this. The premise might be a joke, but this is a genuinely excellent anthology.
Finally, I've read the text I didn't know I needed. When this was presented to me from a friend's collection, I thought, "how many takes on The Fast and the Furious franchise could there be?" I foolishly could not see beyond my own experience and perspective. This collection of art is funny, moving, scary, inspiring, horny, imaginative, and so much more than I thought possible for something that I would also describe as "Trans meditations on The Fast and the Furious". I am thankful and celebratory of this book! I have seen a few of the films and have been come at with the individual zeal of a single or small group of people shouting, "we need to see the newest installment... for the FAMILY!" but to take this collection of essays, poetry, mixed media, game instructions, and more in allows these artists and editors to shine in their individually unique ways! I love this book and would obviously recommend it to anyone who has seen even a single F&F film.
Very fun collection of short stories, essays, artwork, and other various musings on the intersection of queerness and the Fast and Furious franchise. The only prior knowledge you need about the franchise is that the movies feature fast cars doing improbable things with a lot of time also devoted to “family.” Mostly tongue-in-cheek but sometimes earnest, this zine will entertain you and maybe even educate you!
after the gretchen felker-martin short story (family vehicle) in this i can never look at the animorphs cover the same way again.
hightlights alongside that: - 67,292 things car guys can teach transsexuals - factory issued by max turner - i'm a hater, hear me out by em solarova - the two genders by lilith k
The whole collection rocks, but the story about the cars discussing Dom and Brian hooking up is the most delightful thing I've read all year. Also, Gretchen Felker-Martin's story is deeply unsettling. Cant wait for what Girl Dad press puts out next!
This is the absolute best. Finally, a whole book written by people who want to talk about this franchise as much as I do, and who do it through a queer lens!
