Fate Trace #3

Dead to Sin

Rate this book
I thought being forced to start over in my career was the worst thing that could possibly happen to me.

That is, until that same night when I met a stranger in a bar. He was only meant to be a distraction from my spiraling mental state.

Little did I know, he would unintentionally set me on a new path in life—before I disappeared, at least. I left, immediately regretting that I didn’t get his name and would probably never see him again.

Less than a year later, my new mentor passed away, leaving me nervous about what the future held once more.

And then I found out that his replacement—my new boss—is him. The guy. Kiernan Messor. My reason for turning to death work in the first place.

I need to be professional, but I’m not sure how long I can keep my hands to myself. Even if it means that I’ll risk losing my job.

Again.

I am dead, please take me to the morgue so Kieren can embalm me. This might be my favorite one yet. I was obsessed from the moment I saw the character art and even more obsessed after reading their story.

Short and Spicy

Genna Black’s writing is easy to devour and her characters easy to fall in love with. Dead to Sin was no different.

Indie & Kiernan were serious goals in this story and I loved every moment. It was the spicy love story wrapped up in dark humor that I needed to distract me from my actual real life.

My only complaint about this story was that it had to end because I wanted more of them and their spicy adventures. As much as they can’t get enough of each other… I can’t get enough of them!

Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I’m torn between being happy about the fast pace of this book and also wanting more. I felt like there was a lot of room for more details and build up to the big event at the end, and the end seemed kind of rushed. But I did love how quickly Indie and Kiernan got acquainted and then reacquainted. The spice was spicing, there were lots of parts that made me laugh. Overall I enjoyed the book, I just wish the end wasn’t so rushed and there was a little more.

If Genna Black writes it, I'm gonna read it. Thems the rules. And when you make it a workplace romance with a macabre twist? Be still my decayed little heart.

Indie and Kiernan have an unconventional meet cute that haunts them both for a year after their brief encounter. Tormented by the fact they probably will never see their mysterious strangers again, imagine their delight and surprise when they realize that Kiernan is now Indians new boss. Indie loves her job and is determined to not risk it for the biscuit, but neither of them can deny the gravity that is constantly pulling them together.

Dead to Sin is a short, spicy read that'll keep you hooked the whole way through. I really wish this would have been longer just to spend more time with Indie and Kiernan. They’re so cute together and I would be more than happy to watch their shenanigans forever and always.

Oh guys, this book was such an amazing read! 🥹 I loved every second of it. While the first two books of this series were a bit darker, this one was so sweet. Good to know, this is book three in the series but can be read as a standalone. But hey, just start at book one, you'll want to read all of them!

Indie and Kiernan, where to start.. We started this book hot and steamy in a public restroom. And a year later both of them hasn't forget what happend then. When they meet again, she realizes that he is her new boss. From there on this book is so cute and while they first ignore their feelings for each other. They both realize quickly that they will be better of thogether.

This book is a fun and sweet novella, filled with steamy spice and humor.

Thank you Genna Black for this ARC to read and review!

This was my first book by Genna Black and I was really impressed with how she blended humor with the darker and spicier elements.

Indie and Kiernan are life goals. Once they meet, they are consumed with each other, even when they try to fight it. I was a huge fan of the tension between the two.

I also enjoyed the side characters, Owen and Amelia. I thought they definitely added to the story.
This is a novella and I thought everything was well balanced through the storyline.

Dead To Sin by Genna Black

This is my first book by this author and when I say that I am obsessed!!! I mean I am OBSESSED!!!! it was so good. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down.

What happens when two people meet a restaurant and end up hiking up in the bathroom!? Only for Indie to move and try to find herself and ends up running into him again. Meanwhile when Indie leaves Kiernan has been thinking about her ever since she left, he has spent all this time wondering where she has gone.

Even though this book short it packed alot into it and I am so obsessed! I was so invested in Indie and Kiernan story and I honestly didn't even want it to end! The push and pull between them and then you add in the spice I was just so in love!!!!

I was really caught off guard how easily this book flowed. The idea was a bit out there, but I enjoyed it non the less.

I liked the back and forth of the sexual and actually wanting to know a person. Too many books plung head first into the smut, but this one went back & forth when it came to that.

My only issue was towards the end. I know something had to go on to give it some action, but I would've loved to see more hints to how it would have ended vs it just showing up.

I was thrilled to receive an ARC copy of this short, sweet and oh so spicy novella by Genna Black.

138 pages later and it packs a punch. It was spicy, beautifully written, and just a tad bit dark. When you are 6 pages into the prologue and the spice starts with some exhibitionism, you know it’s gonna be good. To say I devoured it would be an understatement, I sat in the same spot for approximately 2 hours while I read and stuffed my face with hot Cheetos.

Love at first sight…. Love at first blow job is more like it (Indie said it best). You ever have a bad day and wanna blow a greek god of a tattooed stranger in the bar bathroom…just to forget? No, well it worked for Indie so maybe it’s not such a bad idea.. I’m just saying. This meeting leaves a mark on the two of them as they dwell on the memory for a year, when fate (that bitch) brings them back together in the most unexpected way… he’s Indie’s new boss.

Kiernan has been in the business of death as a mortician for a while now, he considers it an honorable position. When he returns to take over his uncle’s family mortuary, a blast from the past awaits. He is absolutely infatuated with Indie, he has thought of nothing else the past year. Just being in her orbit is doing something to his heart. He wants to be nothing but devoted, protective, and possessive for her. He is swoon worthy and his dirty mouth leaves little to the imagination. He only hopes she feels this same connection he does, this electricity… it’s palpable.

Indie is new to the death business, it’s been just a year since the tattooed stranger left an imprint on her in more ways than one. She wants Kiernan, but her fear of losing her job, if anything went wrong, and starting over because he is her boss is holding her back. Their connection cannot be denied, can she give in, hope for the best and let herself have this? or will those boundaries have to stay in place? Indie is such a hilarious smart ass even while being slightly guarded and I love her for it. From the beginning though, we can see that there is something about Kiernan that makes her open up.

The banter between these two is top tier and I love the bits of dark humor that’s tossed in, it made me chuckle. The way Genna develops their love is so beautiful, each character is holding back out of fear and once that fear is confronted it’s nothing but recognition and adoration. For such a short read I have so many favorite moments and annotations and I simply can’t recommend it more, the story flies by and you’ll definitely fall in love with these characters as much as I did. Out 4/30, add to your TBR.

“what it was about this complete stranger that had me desperate for him to open a daycare center in the back of my throat”

“The feeling of having her in my space like this was something I wanted to bottle up and save for later.”

“As much as I’d love to see you walk out of here with my cum dripping down your thighs, it would be so very unprofessional of me if I didn’t at least clean you up.”

“I wondered how she’d react if I said those things out loud. If I told her I knew I loved her from the moment I laid eyes on her and had gotten off to nothing and no one since that day.”

“I know what you’re doing.” “What’s that?” “Begging me to finger fuck you in front of all these people, for starters.”

“The fact that her body responded to me even though she was unconscious did things to me. It made me wonder if I’d just discovered a new kink.”

“You beg so pretty, baby. I’m not sure that was enough to satisfy how much I loved hearing it.”

“Whatever we were, it was infinite. Eternal. I would always find her. Deep in the pit of my soul, I’d always known that. It’s why I couldn’t let her go after that first night. Why she hadn’t been able to let me go either.”

There would only ever be him.

This dedication in this was was 100% true and I loved that. This was a fun story to read. Kiernan and Indie had such great chemistry and I loved seeing the obsession they had for each other.

I loved that we got to see a glimpse of our other Fate Trace characters in the epilogue..

That was spicy dark rom-com perfection. I laughed, I swooned, I cackled as the bad guy got what he deserved, just perfection *chef's kiss*

TK and Beck definitely have some rivals for favorite Fate Trace couple, Kiernan and Indie were just so dang cute and sweet. Their inevitability was obvious from the start and I adored how obsessed they were with each other.

As always, Genna got me with that third act. Sneaky sneakerson.... Just when everything feels calm and perfect, she kicks your feet right out from under you and your left with some heavy whiplash. Kiernan’s clean up was the best though, I cackled as he drove away.

I can't believe Fate Trace has come to an end, but what a way to go. I'm so excited for her upcoming projects though and can't wait to see what she has in store for us.

I got to reread this one via audio and absolutely loved it all over again. Avery Reid was so perfect as Indie and I adored this fun, quick listen.

5⭐️ Dead to Sin (Fate Trace #3) - Genna Black
AGE RATING: A
POV: Dual POV - First Person
GENRE/TROPES: Spicy Romantic Comedy
PLOT/WRITING: 5/5- Pfew, where to start?? Anything Genna Black writes, I will read. This is the third book in the Fate Trace series, so I knew it would be a 5 star read before I started, and it did not dissapoint!! Genna knows how to write the best MC's!! Her FMC's inner dialogue always has me laughing and cheering them on, while the MC's make me giggle and go "🥹" at least 80% of the time. (The rest of the time it's more of a "🥵"....). Dead to Sin was less dark then the previous two books, but I loved it just as much.
CHARACTERS: 5/5- Just as TK and Hunt, Indie left me absolutely convinced that I would want to be their friend irl. Her sarcastic inner dialogue was so fun to read! As for the MMC, well, I'm currently suffering internal turmoil because Kiernan might have overtaken Beck as my top Fate Trace MC...
ROMANCE 5/5- SPICE: 3/5- NO THIRD ACT BREAKUP!! thank you, Genna Black, for never subjecting us to this! The romance is too cute. After one short but hot and heavy meeting, followed by a year of mutual pining, the two MC's find eachother again... With Kiernan being Indie's new boss! I loved how the romance developed throughout the book with mutual obsession and adoration! As for the spice, I will leave you with a quote from chapter 1, yes you read that right, the very first chapter....
"I couldn’t put my finger on what it was about this complete stranger that had me desperate for him to open a daycare center in the back of my throat"... MISS MA'AM😭
TYPE OF ENDING: Closed - it is an interconnected standalone, so this story has wrapped up.

Let me set the scene for y’all for this ARC review with a little quote from THE PROLOGUE, ok…

“I couldn’t put my finger on what it was about this complete stranger that had me desperate for him to open a daycare center in the back of my throat, but every part of my existence felt like it might be the answer to all my problems.”

Ok Indie girl, do what you gotta do. You won’t catch any judgement from me 😏

There’s something about books written by Genna Black that just bring me back to life when I am not with it, and this was no different. Indie and Kiernan had me hooked from the start and I could not put this down.

Genna always writes men OBSESSED with their woman and Kiernan is definitely that for with our girl Indie…and I’m obsessed with Kiernan 😌. And Indie, like all of Genna’s other FMC’s, had me literally laughing out loud at every turn. She’s absolutely my new bestie.

These two could not stay away from each other and I loved reading about them together. Kiernan was so sweet with Indie and Indie was equally obsessed with her man. And they were both such a positive influence each other’s lives, how could you not love them immediately. I also loved the little glimpse of Indie’s friendship with Owen-who didn’t get a lot of time on the page but seemed a perfect match for her.

Dead to Sin is book 3 in the Fate Trace Series, but can be read as a standalone and is the perfect mix of dark and funny (and lighter than books 1&2)

Heat? Check. Dark? Check. Banter? TRIPLE check. This dark, spicy romcom checks all my favorite boxes and Genna has done it again by pulling me into her sarcastic, witty, morbid humor-filled world. I never want to leave. Fate Trace is one of my absolute favorite series and no one makes me laugh quite like Genna does. I’m heartbroken that this world has come to a conclusion but I’m sure there will be plenty of rereads and visits back to these beloved characters in store for my future.

While Beck and TK will always have a special place in my heart, Kiernan and Indie may have subtly (or not so subtly…because when has Indie ever been subtle?!) knocked them right off the podium for my favorite Fate Trace couple. Indie in all her blunt, awkward glory is just so damn relatable and the chemistry between her and Kiernan was electric from the start. I’m usually not a huge fan of instalove but, somehow, it just works here and I couldn’t get enough of how obsessed these two were with one another.

If you’re looking for a quick, smutty, banter-filled read with a badass FMC and a tattooed “sexy librarian” (he’s not a librarian, iykyk) MMC that falls first, this is absolutely for you. And if you haven’t checked out the rest of the Fate Trace series yet, you should start with No Small Sin. While DTS can be read as a standalone, you definitely do not want to miss out on the rest of this incredible interconnected series!

This is a quickie audiobook and a perfectly perfect one at that.

I wouldn’t have minded more time with these characters though ❤️❤️❤️. It could absolutely have been developed into a full length one if the author had wanted to. I loved this one so hard.
I’d say this is the best one of the three stand-alone ones in the series and I’d love to read more by this author.

Easy breezy yet not cheesy! Fun and flirty in a less than usual romantic environment. Still this isn’t a dark or even grey romance or morality so towards their profession. Not creepy or icky in any way related to the undertaker theme.

The kinks just sort of flow into the narrative without any bumps, even if the somnophelia is technically non-con it’s done in such a sweet and loving way it never comes off as anything but ok.
Must mention how much I love the male narrative so much. It’s the absolute perfect mix of genuinely sweet and spicy. And adding Troy Duran to that is just Mmoahh ( chefs kiss!!) Oh, and the (kinky) spice - yum!

An aabsolute rec for anyone in like or love with a fun, quirky and darkish vibe and some hot, hot spice.

And not to spoil anything, but… there WILL be some twisty bits. But be prepared for a jolt, just as we’re settling into a yummy and post-O-glow…

Indie’s life is completely turned upside down when her boss decides to not come back from her wellness trip. Trying to figure out what to do and not try in front of a bar of strangers, she accidentally runs into a stranger. She laves the bar without any of his information but it seems he is much harder to get over than she thought.

Kiernan’s uncle passes away and he comes back to take over the business. After emailing back and forth with one of his new employees, he realizes that she is the girl that ran out on him in the bar. To see how their relationship evolves, romantically and professionally, makes me wish the book was longer!

This was absolutely amazing and the way it is tied in with the first two books of the series was perfect! Genna’s work continues to blow me away and I never can guess what she is going to write about next. The twists and turns she takes are so surprising and make it so difficult to stop reading to get back to normal life.
I received a free copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

A mortician walks into a bar... well, actually it was an Italian restaurant, but you get it. Kiernan received an offer he couldn't refuse from Indie, and so began a year of mutual pining until they finally met again in a surprising turn of events.

Genna packed a punch in just 138 pages, and I was invested in Kiernan and Indie's story from the start. From their first encounter, they were both captivated by the other, and their sizzling chemistry left me begging for more.

Kiernan, you swoony AF man! I loved how he came off as straightlaced with his librarian look, but there was a morally gray, possessive beast uner that cable-knit sweater. The way he was protective of Indie and wanted to take care of her made my heart pitter patter.

"𝘍𝘰𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵, 𝘐𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘨𝘰....𝘏𝘢𝘳𝘵." "𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘪𝘧 𝘮𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘪𝘴 𝘢 𝘭𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨-𝘢𝘴𝘴 𝘩𝘰𝘦?"

Indie was such a fun FMC. I enjoyed her inner dialogue, especially when it came to trying to keep Kiernan in the friend zone. She was fighting a losing battle.

"𝘚𝘪𝘳. 𝘠𝘰𝘶 𝘥𝘰𝘯'𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘢 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬 𝘨𝘪𝘳𝘭𝘪𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢 𝘣𝘰𝘰𝘬. 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘦𝘴. 𝘐 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘐 𝘷𝘢𝘭𝘶𝘦 𝘮𝘺 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦."

I enjoyed everything about this novella. I especially loved the banter between Kiernan and Indie. They were such a fun couple with their sweet and dark humor.

I love that Genna’s books are always super fun to read and so easy to get into, and the vibes are ALWAYS on point!!!!! I always find that I fall in love with her characters immediately and I root for them every time!

Indie met a random guy in a bathroom on the worst day of her life and *things* happened!!!!! She then leaves to never see him again… or will she?? It turns out this super hot guy she had a one night stand with is her new boss… and he’s just as hot as before!!!!! Kiernan is so protective and caring with Indie. He lets her move at her own pace, especially as she isn’t sure about him being her new boss!! Indie is a total firecracker - I love a feisty FMC and Indie does not disappoint at all!! The chemistry between these two is utterly fabulous and the banter is . Not to mention the spice - omg!!!!! 🥵🥵 the park scene?????? And sooooo many others!!!!

I absolutely adored this novella and I can’t wait to see what comes next from Genna!!!! I swear every book just gets better and better!!!!

I stumbled upon this book by accident on a thread where the author shared character art with tropes, and I'm really glad I did. This is a spicy, sweet (in a slightly dark way) novella that I couldn't put down. Both characters were likable and slightly chaotic in their ways, which made them more lovable. Not to mention, but Kierian, that man is FINEEEEEEE!!! TATTED UP AND SLUTTY GLASSES??? HOT DAMN.

Since this is a novella, it's very fast paced with insta-love, but it still has a hint of slow burn in it. Genna did an amazing job of keeping readers hooked with the slight hints that Indie is being stalked. Seeing Kierian go feral over the Indie being in danger has me down bad for that man more than I already am.

Overall, this is a fun, quick read that is spicy and still has some darker elements to it. I'm super excited to read more from Genna and become obsessed with the rest of her characters.

This is indies and kiernans story.

First i have to say i love all of genna's books and this one did not disappoint either.
This was a he falls first and harder book.
I loved how kiernan is so patient with indie,he knew how he felt and he wanted her and was willing to wait til she stopped fighting how she felt.
It was a nice change from other books as he admitted that he looked for her from their first encounter and he wasnt a naturally violent man.
I could understand why indie did fight how she felt as she was scared she would lose everything if it didnt work out.
These two were just perfect together and once she did stop fighting, the heat between the two was hot.
My only thing is i would love to have seen how they were doing years in the future.
Cannot wait to read more from this author

Good but left me disappointed and wanting more

I really liked the characters in this book! I thought Kiernan and Indie were so cute together and really fit each other’s personalities well.

A couple reasons why it got a 3 star instead of a 5:

The biggest one being super let down when we didn’t get a play by play of the moment indie walked into Sammy’s old/Kiernan’s new office at the funeral home and their reactions to seeing each other. It was pretty brushed over.

The second one was her bad date stalker Mark’s story line. I felt like that story line could have been more in depth and talked about more to get to the plot twist at the end. We also never get closure on what happened to him after Kiernan took and left him.

Over all the book was good, but definitely left me feeling like I wanted and needed more.

After Indie is out of a job, she ends up at a bar drowning in her sorrows (and in the hottie she also finds there). Little does she know, Kiernan is just as obsessed with her. Without even realizing, he helps her determine her next career path. A year later, Kiernan returns to town to take over his uncle's mortuary, hoping that the previous assistant is willing to stay. Who is the assistant, you ask?? Of course, no one other than Indie ◡̈

Man, there is just something about all of Genna's books. I had been itching for something a little darker, but still lighthearted and this was exactly what I needed. Ironically, I have an uncle that owns a mortuary, which just made it even funnier. I was instantly hooked from the beginning and binged it in the single sitting. Indie was so hilariously relatable and Kiernan was just along for the ride.

While this can be read as a standalone, I highly recommend the entire series! Each book is short, fun, and a little dark (but in the best way). Since I have read all of them, I loveeeed the little cameos from other characters in the end. Genna--thank you for this wonderful series and letting me binge it early!

“I couldn’t put my finger on what it was about this complete stranger that had me desperate for him to open a daycare center in the back of my throat.”

Genna Black put crack in this book. This is the third book in the Fate Trace series and I’m totally obsessed. I devoured this dark romcom like a junkie looking for my next hit. Bravo Genna, Bravo!

Indie lost her job and ended up drinking her sorrows away,at a bar. Shortly after she arrived she was feeling very emotional and went to the restroom to have a good cry. Her crying turned into comfort from a hot tattooed stranger and what’s better than giving comfort head, hey it works. Indie had an epiphany after that rendezvous, the meeting left a mark on both of them. A year passed and fate stepped in,bringing them back together in the form of her new boss Kiernan.

Kiernan and Indie’s meet cute was totally unconventional and they were so cute together. The chemistry oozed right off the pages. The witty banter and dark humor gave me so many LOL moments. Kiernan and Indie’s love development was so beautifully written. Genna did an amazing job. This is a short spicy read that captures you right from the beginning. I highly recommend it.

Tropes: workplace romance, morally grey MMC, close proximity, possessive MMC, instalove, he falls first.

Thank you Genna for the ARC

Aww! I heart Kieran and Indie! This was a cute and spicy quick read. If you are looking for something light on plot but full of spice, you will love it!

Indie is having a very bad day and runs into Kieran while at her worst. After having the ultimate meet-cute, Indie runs and doesn’t look back. A year later they cross paths and the wooing commences. I love their banter and chemistry.

This was my first read from Genna Black and I enjoyed it! I will be going back and reading the first couple books in this series.

I devoured this novella. I loved everything about it. One-night-stand and missed connection turns into I searched everywhere for you. 🫠There's no 3rd act break-up.🩷 Both main characters are tattoo lovers.🤘 There's a bit of exhibitionism and workplace freaky time.😉 Kiernan wants nothing more than for Indie to just let him love her.🖤 Indie is inspired by him. Kiernan is protective and very patient with Indie but also very much touch her and 🔪.

I would read it again.

I received an advance copy. This review is honest and voluntary.

"It felt like we were always meant to cross paths, and I knew in that moment that nothing would ever tear us apart again."

Indie and Kiernan met as strangers one night that connected them. A year later, Kiernan inherited a funeral parlor where Indie worked.

No thoughts, just vibes. Spicy book with low stakes, and a bit of insta-connection and everything in-between.

I wished we explored more of Kiernan's work as a mortician, because that's why I read this, but still had a great time that passed the time.
