Brett Lee - My Life

Rate this book
The much anticipated autobiography of one of cricket’s greatest fast bowlers.Brett Lee is known throughout the cricketing world as one of the fastest and most exciting pace bowlers to play the game. Intimidating while charming, decent yet ferocious, he is known for his quick-one liners as much as his gutsy bottom-order batting. He has been recorded bowling at speeds of over 160km/h leaving batsmen with only a fraction of a second to react once the ball leaves his hand. Brett was born and raised in Wollongong, New South Wales where he grew up with his family and their shared love of sports. Brett tried his hand at many sports but cricket proved to be the one that he excelled in. He had his first official game of cricket at the age of nine. He quickly developed into a very talented player and progressed through the cricket ranks to be in a position where he gained selection for his state at the age of 21 and his country at 24. Brett made his debut for Australia in the Boxing Day Test against India 1999. He finished his first match for his country with figures of 5/47. He has now picked up 310 wickets from 76 Tests, joining the elite 300 Test wicket club before retiring from Test cricket earlier this year to concentrate on the shorter forms of the game. He also has a formidable limited-overs record - with 324 wickets from 186 ODIs. Brett has one of the best strike-rates in the world for this form of the game. His pace bowling combined with his ability as a hard hitting and determined tail end batsman make him a crowd favourite throughout Australia and the world. Brett was awarded Man of the Series for the 2007/2008 Test series against India and the 2007 Alan McGilvray Medal by ABC radio. Then in February he 2008 won the 2008 Test Player of the Year and the prestigious Allan Border Medal 2008 for cricketer of the year. Brett is an enthusiastic and motivated sportsman who is grateful for all of the opportunities that have come his way. He remains a grounded person who is generous with his time in and out of cricket.

Beautiful, sincere and frank

I find this book really interesting due to the personality of the Author himself - Brett Lee. He's a passionate, sincere person who gave his all to the sport he loves and we all love. I loved his writing style, I loved how he is frank in his opinions.

I loved how he's not scared to mention that he wanted to hurt batsmen, to instill fear in them.

The most amazing thing I found out about Brett Lee is his attitude. I have read a lot of cricket biographies and no one had that never-say-die and have-no-fear attitude like Lee did.

People, under pressure under-perform, but this great man took up those kinda challenges head-on and came out a winner.

He also comes across as a very caring person, not only towards his family, but even towards the strangers, as he has mentioned in some on the incidents. He is a humble person.

Brett Lee thank you for entertaining us through the 2000-2010 decade. You were someone, whom I looked forward to performing, even in games against India.

Lovely, li'l piece from a very endearing bloke and I caught myself smiling inadvertently more than once.

The first half of the book was especially riveting what with a naughty fella raised in a typically blue collar but strong knit Ozzie family getting into minor skirmishes and just having a whale of a time. Cultural differences apart, this was something I could personally relate to and if anything, my own childhood was even more blessed and sheltered. You could just sense that this guy was living a dream and I can't pretend that the general gung-ho optimism pervading the work was artificial.

That, more than anything else; makes this a book worth reading.

Great description of his cricket journey and interests outside the game. Despite being one of Australia’s fast bowlers shows the regular set backs incurred with injuries and form.

My Life Brett Lee is an open and honest biography by one of Australia's most successful bowlers in Test Cricket.

Brett takes us on a journey through his life before and after representative cricket. It is a frank and revealing story as Brett shares the highs and lows of his life.

Read through chapters as this kid with raw pace develops into one of the most feared bowlers of his time. From his humble beginnings in his back yard in Fairfield Sydney Australia to his 310 Test wickets and, 380 One day International Wickets.

One of the lows in Brett's life was the surgeries on his troublesome elbow. An injury that almost ended his career prematurely. Brett fought back to take his place at the top of his game.

Learn about the charity work Brett does in India.

Overall a good read for any Cricket fan.
