About the author

The American Bible Society (ABS) is an interconfessional, non-denominational, nonprofit organization, founded on May 11, 1816 in New York City, which publishes, distributes and translates the Bible and provides study aids and other tools to help people engage with the Bible. It is probably best known for its Good News Translation of the Bible, with its contemporary vernacular. They also publish the Contemporary English Version.

ABS's headquarters relocated from New York City to Philadelphia in August 2015.

I'm left with one or two thoughts: The Old Testament is full of death and murder in the name of a wrathful God and the New Testament has death and resurrection in the name of God's son, Jesus.
It was interesting to read the different perspectives of the apostles; their recollections of the events that led from the beginning and ending of Christ. I liked Paul's letters the best.

The contemporary version uses words like 'stupid' a lot and is written to be understood without the fancy language.

Picked this up in a thrift store for $1.00. This version seemed like it was written for an adolescent audience. Much of the traditional poetic language of standard versions was removed from this (perhaps to make it more "readable"). Footnotes are sparse and not too informative. Okay for teenagers and young adults reading the new testament for the first time but there are better versions available for other audiences.
