Ātman (आत्मन्) is an anthology of poems. it contains some of my work written since 2010 and chronicles my journey through a debilitating nicotine addiction, alcoholism, bankrupty and my subsequent recovery with the support of my family, my wife and my friends. Ātman is a concept in Hindu philosophy which means “inner self” or “soul”. In Hinduism, Ātman is the true self of an individual beyond identification with phenomena or the essence of an individual. It is widely believed that in the lifelong and never-ending journey towards liberation (moksha), a human being must acquire self-knowledge (atma jnana), which is to realize that one's true self (Ātman) is identical with the transcendental brahmaan (ultimate reality of the universe). The reason our anthology or chapbook of poems is titled as such is because all poems are written with a view to self-exploration and represent a journey towards self-awareness through experience.
"Like a feral cat pacing it's cage Or an empty soul clawing it's grave A mind trapped in it's own maze, Is it's own tyrant and it's own slave."
Beautiful expressed and penned - enjoyed this collection of poems - though I've been around and witnessed a lot of your struggle and jorney first hand, I love the way you have captured it in words. Super proud of you, I hope you keep helping others through your example and writing...
