Eyes for My Grumpy Billionaire Boss

Rate this book
Faking a relationship with my grumpy billionaire boss, Ethan Blackwood, was supposed to be a simple arrangement to save his reputation. But falling for New York's most eligible bachelor was NEVER part of the plan. Posing as Ethan’s fiancée was not an easy decision to make. He is pragmatic and too serious for my taste, yet my heart is convinced there's more to him than meets the eye. The problem is that I can’t stop myself from falling for Ethan, yet spending so much time with him isn’t helping me hide these feelings. I’m so overwhelmed and ready to put an end to this arrangement. However, as I muster the courage to come clean, his threatening past resurfaces, throwing everything into disarray. I’m afraid this will be a heartbreak for the books!

This is between a 2 and a 3 star read for me. With a little bit more work, this could be a book I really enjoy. But, at the moment, I am a bit disappointed with it. The storyline itself I liked. The book stuck strongly to the important things to move the story along, making it a quick read. I think I would have enjoyed a bit more action throughout to show the characters a bit more, and to aid the development of their relationship. I feel like the grumpy/sunshine expect was definitely there and done well.

My main issues have to do with the dialogue. At some points it felt too formal, especially in the context of the story, but other places it worked given the setting of the scene. Sometimes it didn't feel natural, or the way it was worded just didn't sound right. There were also a lot of exclamation points. Too many exclamation points. It threw off the story for me and messed with the way it sounded in my head.

A few scenes could have used a bit more development. It seems like there is an unnatural flow to things when we will suddenly shift to a different scene, or time. Some of the things skipped over I would have liked to read about, I think it could have helped to understand the characters a bit more.

I do think there was a lot here to work with, it might have been too much shoved into too few pages. Allowing the time for things to develop would have greatly benefitted the story. The ending wrapped up too quickly, too easily. I think if there had been a few more scenes where we saw the characters emotions a bit more it would have come together to make a great ending.

I'm mostly disappointed because this was so close to being a really good book. It seemed like it had the potential to be so much more, but then it kind of got shoved in to fit into this streamlined story that didn't branch off from its main plot. It felt a little forced, but sometimes a story like that is good for a little breather after a complex story.

Don't misunderstand me, I did enjoy reading this book, just not as much as I could have. I am actually really interested in reading more from this author, because the writing did keep me reading even though there were some things I wasn't fond of and that made the book lower stars for me.

I read an ARC of this book for free, and voluntarily left this honest review.

1. There are too many exclamation points
When I was in primary school, I learned that exclamation points are used to convey when someone raised their voice. In this book, it felt very out of place. They would be having a very casual conversation, and out of the blue, there's an exclamation point. Why?

2. Alex said she saw articles about his past. However, Lindsey said they got all removed...

3. At times, the dialogue was really odd and felt animated.

4. I appreciated the two POVs.

5. I loved the plot for the most part and can appreciate the pace for the majority of the book.

6. The ending was too rushed, and I felt as though there was no clear resolution. Because he did, in fact, cheat on her and was 🤏 this close to smearing her name publicly. How can she look past that with no real explanation?

Even with his mom. One day, she's berating every aspect of Alex's life and mere days afterward, she's hugging her and welcome her to the family?

7. I would have told her to break up with him to be very honest. He should not have allowed his mother to disrespect her like that.

8. Lastly HE CHEATED ON HER. In what world is allowing someone (in this case, Monica) to touch him like that, kiss him on the cheek, go out on dates with him and meeting his mother, not cheating?
He is so delusional.

9. It was a nice short read though!

Gorgeous...

This book tells the story of Ethan and Alex as they work their way towards making their faux engagement real in the midst of so many troubles and misunderstandings. It turns out opposite do attract but can they look beyond their differences and embrace their uniqueness in seeing what truly matters.

The author wonderfully captures the essence of the characters, you could see them sparkle through the pages. The best thing about this book is that it's written from a dual perspective. It is fast paced, and the story line keeps you hooked. The characters have intriguing and unique personalities with the right amount of humour and intentness. You could probably finish the book in less than 3 hours. The ending is wonderfully wrapped up with each character receiving their deserved reward, it was satisfying to read till the very end.

The scenery and dresses were gorgeously described, the author’s attention to detail is applaudable. The supporting characters were a wonderful touch to the storyline. I enjoyed reading it. I am glad that I could read the advance reader's copy of this book and leave my honest review.

Ethan and Alexa narrate their points of view. Faking a relationship with Ethan Blackwood was supposed to be simple straightforward save his reputation as the most eligible bachelor….Just one problem falling for him.Ethan’s mum is laying on the pressure to find a wife to improve his status and bring honour to the Blackwood family. Alexa Summers is his newly hired personal assistant . After his mother introduced him to several women at a grand gala ,he’s tired of the relentless bore of it all. Then an idea hits him, find a trustworthy person to enter a marriage of convenience until he ended it….Cue Alexa , even though she was a clutz who had spilled coffee on him among other hilarious mishaps. This is a truly awesome antsy romantic story that is charming in its simplicity. The pair both find their whirlwind romance exhilarating and it arcs off the page how much chemistry there is. Very good descriptions make for a compelling read and the writing flows beautifully.

There was a lot going on in this short book which both made it an interesting read and made me wish it was longer so some of it could be explored more deeply. Ethan is the grumpy, billionaire, single dad boss with a complicated history and demanding family. Alexa is cheerful, struggling, a little bit clumsy and clueless, but has a fabulous roommate to help her out. This job is her big break and she's determined to pull it off.

The set up felt more like romcomland fantasy than anything remotely plausible, but if we forgive that because well, it is a romcom with a hefty dash of corresponding fantasy, and ignore the boss/ subordinate dynamic which I am not a fan of, there is a good story in there. The developing relationship, the conflicts, the moments, it all worked. I did not like either character at first, but they really grew on me, especially Ethan as he was able to see his past and his part in it more honestly.

It met my expectations for the genre and Ella Marie shows promise for better books to come.

Ethan is one of the most eligible bachelors in the city whose mother keeps nagging him about finding a wife to uphold the honor and status of the Blackwood family. The last straw was when Ethan's mother pushes all the eligible women at him. So to get her off his back, he comes up with an idea. All he has to do is find a trustworthy person who will play his fake fiance. The one person that comes to mind is his personal assistant, Alexa Summers. And now the whirlwind begins. The book is told as a POV which is great to get the insight into the characters through their own words. I really liked this book and actually rooted for them until the end. I received an ARC of this but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own.

Thanks to the author for the ARC copy. Opinions are my own

The more I think about this book it annoys me. The premise of a billionaire CEO asking his newly hired assistant to pose as his fake fiance screams sexual harassment lawsuit waiting to happen. The whole story line was forced and I really felt badly for Alexa who goes along with the sham and has to put up with her boss who is not only grumpy but rude and nasty. I kept screaming for her to quit her job and get away from Ethan . There's little growth from Ethan and the ending is not believable , especially with the swift turnaround his mother makes towards Alexa. A mother like that will never change that quickly.

2.5 stars. I received an ARC of this but the opinions expressed here are strictly my own. This book was ok. I had a hard time connecting with Ethan, and I think that's why the book wasn't more enjoyable for me. His words and actions just didn't come across as believable to me. Alexa was a very likable character, but to me there wasn't much of anything to make me believe they fell in love. The story has a cute premise, but Ethan needs a little work. I did love the dual POV, that's always enjoyable to me.
I did enjoy reading this book, just not as much as I could have.

Ella Marie is a very talented writer, I'm not usually a romance reader I'm more the cozey mystery kind of gal, but the two main characters in this novel are so vibrant and full of personality along with the fabulous story and story plot I was smitten from the first paragraph turning page after page to see what was coming next and finished reading it in one sitting. I was laughing and felt as though I was watching the whole thing unfold in my mind it a fabulous escape from the drudgery of reality. Acquire " Eyes for My Grumpy Billionaire Boss " for a delightful and enjoyable experience. Kat

Eyes For My Grumpy Billionaire Boss by Ella Marie was good. I read it in one sitting. It's told in a duel POV with Alexa and Ethan. It has some of my favorite tropes.

* Fake Dating/Fake Fiancé
* Office Romance
* Grumpy/Sunshine
* Billionaire Romance

Thanks to the author for my arc.
I'm a sucker for these books. I loved Ethan and Alexas story. Its a short story, so a lot was crammed in. I would've like a lot more romance with them, the bits we did have were lovely. Even though it was short, it took Ethan forever to open his eyes. Definitely recommended for any romcom fans

Okay, lets face it, there is no surprise that Ethan and Alexa end up falling in love, it is surprising how Ella Marie keeps us reading even when we know the end. I really enjoyed seeing Alexa blossom and gain confidence and Ethan overcoming his fear of commitment and love. It was nice to see a billionaire who didn’t cave to mama (sometimes mamas need to be told no). I enjoyed this story.

A clean, light hearted, grumpy-sunshine, fake to real romance. I loved watching the two main characters develop actual feelings for each other, and both be totally overwhelmed by it. This was an interesting, entertaining, feel good story. Enjoyed the book.

A dual pov, clean Romance. Ethan has been scorned in love but his family and tabloids won’t leave him alone about his bachelor lifestyle. Alexa is an everyday girl who had no idea what she was getting into when she became secretary for the ceo of the company. A beautiful fake fiancé romance.

El libro comenzó bien, pero después fue cayendo. Además ese final fue muy abrupto, todos estaban en desacuerdo que estuvieran juntos y derrepente todo amor sin explicación, nop... le faltó desarrollo a la historia.
