FINISHED S01 @ Ch.40 S02: Ch. 41-80 S03: Ch. 82- ongoing…. (I might update this review when I finish the series but I don’t think my opinions will change all that much….)
The story, when you hear about it for the first time, sounds really fresh.
Imagine an innocent, naive girl with a strong mind being fed a magical thing called a shard and her body being made into a material that can be forced into a sword so that the emperor of her country can turn her into a “living sword.”
Imagine that girl having such an undying will that she was able to maintain her own consciousness for 400 years.
Imagine that girl going back in time, way before she was turned into a sword.
Wouldn’t you want to take revenge if you were in her shoes?
As you can see, the whole concept of a human being turned into a sword and being forced to live 400 years that way so that the emperors that use her might have her ‘power’ is really cool and creative.
Well, count me in, as I’ve said.
However, I quickly noticed with the first 5 chapters that this story was not going to use its full potential because the fact that our main character, Charlize went back in time and has a chance for revenge for something that happened in her original timeline and how the how thing is handled is the biggest problem in this story.
Do not get me wrong.
I understand why our female lead wants her revenge and why she acts so cold. It's not easy living as a sword and it’s totally understandable why she has so much resentment towards her family and the empire. Since she has endured over 400 years of abuse and torture, it absolutely makes sense that she doesn’t really have much compassion left.
But what about the innocent people who live in the empire, I ask?
Getting your revenge by putting a ‘tyrant’ on the throne is the right thing to do, really?
How the hell is harming innocent people (who did not know you were "the sword") going to help anything?
If you want to put a “tyrant” on the throne, it means you don't care what kind of cruelty he causes so what's the point of your 'revenge' really when it makes you so much worse than all the emperors who used you?
So while I do get her reasons for wanting revenge, and rightly so, we should not forget that the people she wants to destroy have not yet done anything wrong towards her personally in this timeline or the fact that she is trying to take revenge in the wrong way. The story comes across as if the one part holds all the cards from a completely different deck so when when she inevitably faces off against the Emperor in her second life, there's a certain poetic justice missing from it. In conclusion, there's a lack of dramatic weight between our heroine and her archenemies from her first life, which kinda puts a damper on the whole story.
Another problem with the story is Charlize and our male lead Dylan are not a consistent characters and the author keeps chancing their personalities for the sake of the plot. What should have been complex characters are ruined because they keep making this sudden or out of character choices that comes out of nowhere.
For example, one moment Dylan is nice, the next moment 3-4 years passes and we find out Dylan is only nice to Charlize. Or he suddenly became powerful during the flashforward.
Charlize is handled even worse than him. Nearly whole season, she manipulates people around her, specially Dylan to get them to a point she wants. To put a tyrant on the throne to completely ruin the empire, we are told. Then, suddenly, the plot changes.
You see, until the last few chapters of S01, we think (or should I say we are told) that Charlize, wanted to seize the throne by killing everybody by the way she was acting, but at the end of S01, vala and bam, we get a twist that her plan was just fair and fair all along.
*facepalms*
ANYWAY.
As you can see the plot is a mess.
Another problem was that we did not see much of her “suffering” and “trauma caused by it” after the first 3–4 chapters. We just get one or two flashback scenes, and they are just mentioned in passing instead of being shown properly. Which means all the things she does to get revenge are not satisfying enough because I do not fucking care.
Like, when finally her big brother notices how badly they were treating her, it was not due to any emotional scene, such as when she asked to be disowned from family, but no, no, no, no, my friends, it was due to seeing her talent at using swords! He’s like, ‘Shit, she had talent. Why did we treat her so wrong?’ and I’m like, ‘This is how you notice what an idiot you were?
The middle brother’s behavior was explained at least in later chapters, but it could have been handled better. You know, instead of saying stuff like "I feel bad for her; I want to care for her, but I hope she doesn't beg my attention" we should have seen him feeling more conflicted.
The fact that her own family members were unnecessarily cruel to a little girl after she made a name for herself really, really bugged me. Seeing some scenes such as "Charlize's brothers had always wanted to reconcile with her but didn't know how" would have made whole thing better in my opinion. Instead, we get to see them struggle with their guilt over how they treated our FL and to show her empathy way too late. Chapter 30+ is too late for this kind of development!!! ͡° ͟ʖ ͡° . )७┌∩┐
And let's not talk about her shitty father at all, who had no real reason to treat her the way he did.
UGH.
Eh…
Ok.
I'm calm.
Let's move on with other problems such as the other plotholes....
(☞ ಠ_ಠ)☞
So, out of nowhere, we see that Charlize gets accepted as the prince’s (our male lead Dylan) tutor. I dont know if it was explained in the novel, but in the manwha, like I’ve said, she wakes up, two years immediately pass, and then, BAM, out of nowhere, we see her being accepted as a tutor for a royal. At this time, we don't see her accomplishments or qualifications; we hear about them. We are also told there are ‘rumors’ about her because she is beautiful. We also told her that she has ‘fairy blood’ and divine power. And then the author tries to explain that she knows-it-all because she has lived as a sword for 400 years and watched how the emperors ruled. That’s... FUCKING BULLSHIT, MAN!!
What kind of explanation is this?! ( ͡ಠ ʖ̯ ͡ಠ)╭∩╮
SHOW ME!!!! Don't tell me!!! ლ(⋋·⋌)ლ But this way of bad story telling goes, goes, and goes. Which makes the character come off as, you guessed it, really OP for my tastes!!!
Another problem, hell one of the biggest problem, with the story is that the narration comes across as really awful due to it having a "readers pov." By that, I mean, we were told everything as readers from the narration, which made the writing really bland and caused the story to miss having a lot of necessary dialogue. Because, we are told things instead of being shown.
It was like, “A character feels lonely.”.
or "The B character finally started to open his heart,” etc.
How about instead of telling me, showing me, dear author? Or sharing characters' thoughts with me?
Some people might find this kind of storytelling interesting, but I got to say how it was done was just pure garbage. This weird third-person voice that seemed to narrate the plot and heroine's thoughts really irked me and constantly threw me out of the story.
I also had a bit of trouble with how manipulative Charlize was trying to be for ALL THE WRONG FUCKING REASONS, and I did not like how she was being portrayed as a strong woman instead of being one! (Again, we were told, not shown.)
Positive aspects of the story were:
- The ART
- Call me shallow but the male lead and how handsome he can be.
-It had no cheesy romance or unnecessary drama or love triangle
Well, that's about it.
The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because art was great and I've re-read the S01 in nearly one sitting so all the negative things did not bother me enought to give the story two stars because I was not reading week by week.
Overall; All these negative things aside, I really liked the art and some parts of the story. I mean, it’s not that bad; it’s actually better than a lot of average fantasy novels with the same fucking story out there. However, what could have happened and how much potential the plot had really hurt the story.
If you are looking for a good revenge story that makes totally sense or a real, I mean REAL, strong female lead, this story is probably not for you. If you like looking at pretty pictures from time to time and do not mind the story and the average characters, give this one a try.
Wow wow- I don't know what I was expecting from this manga but from jump I was pleasantly surprised on how dark this storyline was going. Can't wait for Season 2!
Storyline: God gave me a chance to relive my life. Before my rebirth, I’d been used for the past 400 years as the empire’s sword. And so, upon my return, I vowed to destroy the empire. To achieve my goals I found the young prince of this country and became his teacher. I taught him how to become a tyrant and asked for the countries ruin in return.
“I will do as the lady wishes.”
He conquered the whole empire for me, and then I ran away...what will become of me and my tamed tyrant?
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐲𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭 is really good. It’s not your typical cliché-packed manhwa, and that’s exactly why I love it. The female lead is a total badass, and her obsessive, clingy guy just adds to the chaos. The art is stunning, the storyline is unique, and every panel feels alive.
Oh my god, the art is so pretty. I’ve seen a pattern in these manhwas(Korean comics). All the characters are beautiful. The emotions that were expressed are not lacking. So Charlize, the FL, was a princess of a Grand Duchy, but she was mistreated because her mother died during labor. How family neglect her too. As years past, the Emperor suggest her to be the empire ‘s sword. And I mean a literal metal sword. I guess her soul was transferred to the sword and she was named Keira. 4 centuries passed with hatred and resentment. Then she wished to get her life back. She does not resent her family anymore.
And this time she will get revenge on the imperial family.
I'm speechless, it was bomb 💥 chef's kiss 🤌🏻✨ Rating: 100000000000000000/10 Outstanding storyline ✅ Satisfying revenge plot ✅ Strong and powerful women✅ Yandere, OTT Obsessed, Jealous, possessive Men ✅ Hero destroy world for her ✅
Charlize was a real queen. After getting betrayed and living as a knife for 400 years, she desperately wanted to be human again. Cause she was done being a tool to kill endless people, all she wanted was love of her family and respect. but no one gave her love or respect. so she made a wish to return and after 400 years she reincarnated... Her family didn't love her so this time she was cold to everyone. Her coldness was too much, eventually I cried for her. her actions says that she has gone through a lot worse. she doesn't show emotions cause she has stopped expecting love or anything. her actual revenge was to tame Dylan and making him ruthless tyrant emperor who will bring the ultimate destruction of the empire. and Dylan was truly a gentleman, but he fell hard for his master Charlize. Dylan killed for her, bleed for her... I am in love with this man 😍🫦🤌🏻✨
But I was sad about Kuhu, he did truly love Charlize, his love was pure.
First and furthermost, the ilustration is absolutely beautiful, dazzling, pretty, gorgeous, and OMG I just can't stop to loving and praising it. Such eye candy and it's one of the reason I give 5 stars.
The backgroud story is dark and depressed. I wish I can give Charlize a big and warm hug. You definitely deserve to be happy, maam. You are gorgeous and amazing and lovely and kind, despite you hate every inchi about the empire. And Dylan, my boy, my sweet Dylan 😭😭😭😭😭 It pain me to read Dylan dejected exspression...
I feel conflicted because Charlize grooming Dylan since his childhood, but well, the story is about it anyway. But, I just can't bear it seeing both of them breaking.... GOD. I wish to end their suffering... And I wish Kahu get a happy ending. He deserve that much. My poor heart for 2nd male syndrome... 😭
I didn't know about Charlize family. I think they didn't deserve redemption arc but but the latest chapter make my heart waver... AND THEY ARE SO PRETTY. It's SO HARD to overlook their beautiful and perfect faces. 🥲
It's time to read the spoiler because I just can't wait patiently for season 2.
This is a strange webtoon. So as a short plot summary it is about a girl who wanted nothing but the love of her family betrayed in the end. Charlize is the youngest daughter of a noble family and she was deeply hated and neglected because her birth caused the death of their mother. She grew up wanting to prove her worth and wanted love from those around her and unknowingly accepted the emperor's proposal to be his sword. Normally being someone's sword means to be their right hand man in war and guard etc (it's like being the imperial commander in a way but personally for the emperor). However, the emperor LITERALLY meant for Charlize to become a sword (a living breathing metal sword).
As you can expect this was not her dream... for generations the emperor and his follow predecessor all used Kiera (her sword name) to slaughter and kill whoever they pleased. Slowly she lost every bit of humanity in her as she begged for a chance to find revenge after 500 years of pain and torment.
And bam, the story starts at the beginning with Charlize still just a young child with plenty of time to seek and execute her revenge plan on the Empire's emperor as well as place a tyrant in his place to destroy the empire.
I was expecting a lot more detailed dethronement of the emperor and his slow death. I was EXTREMELY disappointed that it wasn't shown in more detail especially after emphasizing that this was Charlize's only wish. I wonder where this story will go now that the main conflict has resolved itself and all the smaller issues pertaining her family and past lover are pretty clear for Charlize. She doesn't hate or love any of them. She is indifferent to any of their existences so whatever they do doesn't matter to her one way or another. She should just spell it out to her tyrant whether she likes him or not and that's that also. It's not really that big of a deal now unless some random conflict arises this practically concluded the plot. I'm not sure if I will really continue this but I'll come back to it once completed.
Charlize is ostracized from her family. Despite her talent as a swordsman, the Rohan clan continue to ignore her blaming the death of her mother during childbirth. Thus when the emperor expresses interest Charlie falls for his tricks and becomes an experiment. Magicians feed her pieces of etherite and eventually convert her into a magic sword which serves the Imperial family. Forced to kill thousands she goes insane and prays to the gods to let her get revenge. Charlize awakens in her younger body and decides on her best course of action. She decides to raise young prince Dylan as a Tyrant and use him to destroy the country. She cuts ties with her family, develops her abilities, and gets acknowledged for her skill. Using her knowledge of the future she endears herself to Dylan but his obsession grows as he ages. To complicate matters Kehu remembers the prior timeline, survivors of the Keira trials want to recruit Charlie, and Dylan's divine fate is twisting. * * * * *---------* * * * *---------* * * * * Pretty artwork. The story is composed of mostly known tropes, but the narrative is decently fast paced. The characters are interesting but a little underdeveloped. The Rohan boys and Kehu don't have much reason to become obsessed. Our female lead is a little too over powered for there to be much tension. However, the tragic backstories help soften the edges of rough behaviors and dark motivations to keep players likable. The romance is a bit thin.

Season 1 wraps up with 40 episodes. I've been avoiding this for a long while since the name and the cover photo just look like super average fantasy. I've also read a lot of tyrant based webtoons as well and they usually follow a formula that I have been getting tired of.... then I watched a recommendations video on youtube and they described the plot of this (I never actually read the plot myself beforehand) and I was immediately intrigued! Aaaand here I am now, binged the entire first season in the span of 4 hours and ready to start season 2!
This is really revenge heavy and there isn't really a romantic connection quite yet. You may also not understand some of the FL's actions and may even find her unlikable... but that's what I like about her. She has a goal and she is actually fulfilling it and doing what she can for her revenge!
I am not a cursed sword. I am human! Charlize Ronan, once a "living sword" to protect the empire, endured a long, hellish time, praying to God for vengeance. A miracle that transcended 400 years has arrived. "I will destroy the empire so thoroughly and completely that no one will feel pride!" To avenge herself, Charles begins to train the 13th Prince, a genius of unparalleled power and the true ruler of the empire before its return... ... "All I have left is you, Master." And thus, she finally succeeds in raising a tyrant who will devour the empire. "Charlize. I will dedicate everything to you, and I will grant you your wish."
Read this all day and I really enjoyed it. It explored more darker themes than most villainess stories do with revenge, obsession and some killing. A little slow at the start but it helped that I could read it all in one sitting (I might not have finished it right away if I had to wait for chapters). Ngl I am a little annoyed with Char and how she said to Dylan that she wants him to be obsessed with her but as soon as he started showing signs of that she backed off, like this is what you wanted, dear. This is what you created. Excited for s2!
2.5 Season 1:finished En verdad pensé q me iba a gustar....

I was not anticipating how truly dark this story was going to be. And honestly, I'm not disappointed in the slightest! It is so well-written and the art is absolutely beautiful. I truly can't get over how realistically dark, tragic, and beautiful this webtoon is - it's original and utterly heartbreaking. There are a few moments I want to shake her and yell at her to open her eyes, but never have I routed so hard for a female lead to topple the world and bring it to its knees.
Setting aside my brain’s repeated input of ‘Charlize Theron’, I really enjoyed the weapon-relearning-humanity theme of Charlize’s character, as well as the lack of forgiveness towards her birth family after all the abuse. The political intrigue and grey morality was really cool, though the Ehirite/God of Evil thing was… weird. Overall really great, though.
I am using this as I read the whole webcomic and couldn't find it elsewhere. Overall it was good but a little dark. The main ml relationship is super toxic but I would definitely read more from this author.
