I received an ARC of Fog of Silence.
Luke Sackville and the Ethics teams 3rd outing. This was a fast-paced, well executed exciting read which kept you guessing till the end. A few side issues wrapped up on the way. Nice to see Josh shining in this one.
I'm really enjoying this series.

I really love this mystery series! I know I said that about the previous 2, but it stays true. My absolute favorite character is Josh. He really brings of levity to the story that contains topics that otherwise would weigh rather heavily. For example, this one is essentially about pedophilia, but Josh goes incognito as a younger guy to bring down the bad men. Unfortunately, some tragic stuff does occur, but the team solves the case at the end of the day. They remind me of the Scooby Doo gang, and I think that’s why I love it so much. Just a ragtag group solving mysteries. Who knew an ethics department could do so much?

Thank you Love Book Tours for the copy!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Fog Of Silence - Steve J Richards

After two cracking novels, I was really looking forward to getting stuck into SJ’s third outing for the Ethics team at Filchers - and it must have been good if I finished it in 2 sittings!

A punchy start and it really doesn’t let up until the closing of the last page.

It’s been a pleasure to see this series (and its characters) grow and develop over time - and when you start feeling empathetic or supportive to the main characters, the author must be doing a grand job!

Within the murky underworld of Celebrity, Fog Of Silence shines a headlamp on the powers that be that turn a blind eye - and the pacey writing wills you on to see how it all plays out.

Without giving away too many spoilers - great to see the Gucci member of the team firmly in the spotlight!

3 down - and an upcoming fourth novel to look forward to……keep them coming Steve!

I’m so lucky to be an ARC reader of another rollercoaster of a read. It’s just amazing how the author manages to get the team involved in such diverse and interesting crimes. I love the team dynamics and growth.
Josh is just such a loveable and naive character - some laugh out loud moments.
The humour and mix with such serious subjects is very well done.
The end I was speed reading as it was such a cliff hanger and as always the ‘baddie’ is such a twist ! Love it.

A complete different perspective as we meet Alfie and Owen initially I couldn’t get my head around it and thought what is going on. But it didn’t take long to realise what was happening and it was brilliant seeing a complete different twist to the other two books.

What can I say about the new characters… they were incredible, completely different to those in the other two books. I just have such a soft spot for Josh and the fact that vulnerable characters from book two made a reappearance made me just as happy too. Especially, as the characters from the other books had more important roles to play. They were definitely an ethics team not to be messed with.

I loved that there is a feel for romance in this, with other family members of Luke’s making a massive appearance. I’m secretly rooting for Sam and Luke in the next book for sure. It was only a third of the way through the title made sense ‘fog of silence’ and I was like wow that makes sense. There’s so much in this book, action, attempted rape, murders and so much more. Loved it.

I really enjoy the Luke Sackville series and book three ‘Fog of Silence’ is just as good as the previous two books. It is fast paced and full of endearing characters. I love Luke and his whole team - Helen, Sam, Maj and Josh. Josh has been a little irritating in the first two books but I actually really liked him in this installment. He made me laugh a few times and I still think that Leanne has got her work cut out going out with him.

Fog of Silence is full of action and the story moves quickly and it’s difficult to put down once it gets going. I hope I get the chance to read the next book and I also really hope that two of the characters get together but I won’t be mentioning who I am talking about ;) .

I received a gifted copy of this novel. This review is my honest opinion and written voluntarily.

As in the first two books in this series, the character development for each of the crime-solving coworkers is easy to follow & full of foibles for everyone. I really love the personality of the main man Luke since he’s a great detective, boss, son & friend to everyone. I’m amazed at how invested I’ve become with the complexity of Luke as the man in the crew who adds his special flair to each mystery.

The crazy sleazy criminal behavior for the celebrity/entertainers & their staff definitely brought out my rage & disgust with the abusive subject matter. As in the other books in this series, there’s no shortage of whodunnit moments in this story line.

Each book in the series gives greater insight to these great characters. I truly like spending time with these men & women. The plot varies just enough in each book to keep me excited with the action & entertained from beginning to end. I’m looking forward to more fabulous future endeavors for Luke & his wonderful Ethics team. You really shouldn’t miss any of these books if this type of criminal mystery interests you. Thanks for the ARC chance to enjoy this.

Filchers’ Head of Ethics ex-DCI Luke Sackville is back for a third adventure together with his newly formed and very capable team of graduate trainee Josh and much older legal expert Helen plus technical wizard Majid and accountant Sam. Two teenage boys are excited to attend a glamourous all-male showbiz party at the home of Hall of Flame host Baz Hartman. On the way out one lad stumbles upon a blood covered corpse and is threatened into silence. Many of the rather unsavoury party goers work for Global News and Entertainment, a new addition to Filchers’ stable of outsourced clients, and at a conference a member of GNE’s staff approaches Luke and voices concerns about these parties – his tv producer friend believes they are a front for grooming underage boys. Maj and Josh get an exciting chance to go undercover with rather disturbing findings, and a woman helping Luke is attacked. It appears the whistleblower’s concerns are very real but there is something far more sinister happening as the reader learns a serial killer is using the parties as a very fertile hunting ground. Luke and the team will need to act quickly if more lives are to be saved. Meanwhile Sam deals with a problem very effectively and Luke gains a niece.
I am really loving this super and original new series, excellently written, full of action and intrigue, and featuring some very colourful and easy to envisage characters. The whole ethics team are lovely, almost like a family now who really care about each other, but for me Josh is still my favourite, a clever and kind-hearted young man who also produces so many humorous moments throughout the story. We learn yet more about Luke and his family in this book as his brother and sister-in-law return to the family stately home with the daughter she has only recently been reunited with. Luke’s parents are the Duke and Duchess of Dorset. Luke played professional rugby whilst doing a law degree, only to gain an injury and then become a police officer, working his way up from the bottom to DCI. This and his marriage to his late wife, struggling artist Jess, caused a huge rift with his parents which is now finally starting to heal as his mother’s health declines. I thoroughly enjoyed this thrilling and totally absorbing story from start to finish and I am definitely looking forward to the return of Luke and the rest of the Ethics Team in book 4, The Corruption Code, due out in May 2024.

First of all let me say that this is so well written. It’s tight, witty, humorous, perfectly constructed and full of believable characters. If the author were to write a new version of the telephone directory, I’m sure it would still be entertaining.

I wish I’d read the first two books in the series, but if I didn’t know they existed, I wouldn’t have guessed. We know that Luke Sackville was in the police before becoming Head of Ethics at Filchers, but then every main character in a book will have a past of some sort, especially if they are a bit older. We know he was a DCI, and that his wife died in a hit-and-run a year ago.

Luke and his team comprising Helen, Sam, Josh and Maj have been asked to investigate some worrying goings-on at GNE, a global news and entertainment company. With several references to Jimmy Saville and Operation Yewtree, they need to take it seriously. Are some of the celebrities and contestants actually involved in child abuse, procuring children for underage activities, and possibly even murder, after one teenage boy disappears and another is found in a watery grave.

GNE is responsible for a number of successful TV reality shows and the celebrities have a lot of fans. Fans who wouldn’t miss the chance to attend parties where they will get to meet their heroes. So when we first meet teenagers Alfie and Owen, all excited and raring to go, their experience turns out to be very different from what they expected. In fact Alfie is too scared to even talk about what happened and what he saw. But Owen goes again and discovers more than he bargained for.

There are a couple of ‘side stories’ going on as well like the one involving poisonous mushrooms, Sam’s mum’s online romance, and the obvious misogyny in another company. As an ex-copper, Luke leaves no stone unturned. His team loves working for him and often put their heads on the line to support him. Sometimes they walk straight into danger.

This book is brilliant. I literally read it in two sittings. Definitely 5 stars – and I don’t give 5 for crime fiction very often, and while the premise isn’t totally unique, it’s relevant, important and so much better executed than much of what is out there.

Many thanks to @lovebookstours for inviting me to be part of the #FogOfSilence blog tour

Fog of Silence is the third instalment in the excellent ex DCI Luke Sackville series, but it reads easily and well as a standalone.

This book sees Luke, and the Ethics Team, being quietly asked to look into rumours of a very seedy nature. The company Luke works for, Filchers, is hoping to have a close affiliation with media company GNE; where a whistle blower exposes a sleazy culture within some of the self styled celebrities. These unscrupulous individuals abuse their power, to prey on young fans who are eager to meet their idols.

The fast paced story line is very current and gritty, the book is gripping, the writing flows so well, all of which combine to make the pages turn quickly.

The characters are highly engaging, and I always look forward to catching up with them. Their back stories expand in each new book, making me more invested as the series continues.

As ever with Steve’s writing, you will find many light touches of humour scattered through the pages. One of my favourites was the Deputy Chairman’s speech, his accent was reminiscent of a certain character from an 80s sitcom. The hungover delegates thoroughly enjoyed it too.

One of the many things I like with regards to indie authors, is the immediacy of the story lines, and Steve is a perfect example of this. They will have a seed of an idea form, and within a few short months, this story will be in our hands and minds.

In summary, this is a great series, which I highly recommend. For me, Fog of Silence, is my favourite yet, and I’m very much looking forward to The Corruption Code, which is due to be published in May.

It was such a delight to return to a series which I have begun to adore! This is the third book in the series but it can be easily read as a stand-alone. I do recommend the whole series though as they are cracking reads and quite funny as well! They do deal with heavy topics and this book is no exception but this is juxtaposed by the lightness of especially Josh's character. He is the comic relief with his ‘Gucci’ and naivety. But he isn't a caricature, he is as well developed and nuanced as the rest of the team!

As the Head of Ethics, former DCI Luke Sackville has been asked to investigate some staff members at GNE, a television company based in London. The whistleblower thinks that a staff member’s parties are a bit dodgy and that young boys are attending and maybe being groomed. Luke asks Josh to go undercover to attend the next party and he definitely witnesses this going on. But what the team don't realise is that things are a lot worse than they seem…

As well as the case the team is looking into we also learn a bit more about Luke’s background and present family life. His parents the Duke and Duchess of Dorset are getting older, with his mother in particular having health issues. We also get to meet the newest arrival who is a lovely bright spark of a girl who might transform every ones relationships with each other!

I flew through this instalment on a very bad pain day and it was a real tonic. The author’s voice is getting more distinct as the series progresses and I just love spending time in this fictional world! Get pacing, heaps of tension and a relevant and poignant plot!

Let me know if you pick this one up!

Here is my review for Fog Of Silence by S J Richards

I got into this book straight away and wasn’t disappointed with the storyline in the book, it was a fantastic one! Just what you would expect from this excellent author and the ex-DCI Luke Sackville series which I thoroughly enjoy reading. This is the third book in the series and the action hasn’t let up for the Ethics team yet, when they get someone come to them about celebrity parties where they are inviting teenage boys to all-male parties for the purpose of intimacy. Two of the team go undercover and get enough information to clarify what they have been told is correct. Luke then makes plans to take it to the head of GNE. This is an enjoyable read with lots of twists and turns. The plotting and writing is superb. It’s everything you could wish for in a book. Already looking forward to book four.

“ [...] I had a run-in with her, said some bad things, but fucking hell, I wouldn’t have wished that on anyone. [...]”

I am very impressed with S J Richards' work. This time he created a truly unique work that gave me goosebumps. The ending of "Fog of silence" caused an Armageddon of emotions in me. I was terrified, shocked and didn't know how it would all end. The whole story hidden on the pages of the novel "Fog of Silence" is very interesting and terrifying at the same time. This is an excellent crime thriller. We have some good action here that is slowly gaining momentum. The plot, as you already know, is addictive. The characters here are very convertible. You will meet the creators of television programs and their mysterious parties intended only for young men. Why only for young men? What happens at these celebrity parties? Luke Sackville and his talented team will investigate this case. Who hired them? While reading "Fog of silence" I met, among others, Baz, Helena, Josh, Sam, Rachel and Luke. Luke is the Chief Ethics Officer at Filchers. His hard work is worth having a look at. His subordinates won't have it easy either. The author gave them a really difficult and deadly task. If you love books that will make you experience unforgettable emotions, I refer you to "Fog of Silence" by S J Richards. I secretly hope that this is just pure literary fiction and similar events have never happened.

Third instalment of the ex DCI Luke Sackville series and the tempo continues with the Ethics Team involved in investigating more nefarious activities. It really is best to read these books in order to understand the relationships between the team, they are so good you will thank me. This time it’s the turn of Josh to be the principal undercover agent, alongside Maj, and he takes to it with relish. Alongside the work we learn a lot more about Luke’s background as the falling-out with his parents, the Duke and Duchess of Dorset, starts to heal in the light of his mothers ill health.

Briefly, the team are investigating an allegation of misdoings between adults and underage youths at parties given by a senior producer at one of Filchard’s clients. A dead body is found and serious accidents are happening to potential whistleblowers. Luke and the team find themselves delving into very murky waters and Josh finds himself in lethal danger.

I’m loving this group of characters so much. The author writes with such a great mix of thrills and spills with some wonderfully humorous moments. Well written with excellent storyline but please Mr Richard’s please sort out what is going to happen between Luke and Sam, that simmering tension between them is palpable! Another very entertaining read in this great series.

Get ready for a rollercoaster ride through the seedy underbelly of fame and power in SJ Richards' latest masterpiece, "Fog of Silence." This gripping crime novel marks the third instalment in the Luke Sackville series, and in my view, it's a page-turner from start to finish. Although this book is the third in the series, it can be read as a standalone
Richards skilfully weaves a tale of suspense, intrigue, and moral reckoning. The characters, especially the Ethics Team, add relatability to the narrative. Sackville's determination to expose the truth, despite facing powerful adversaries, makes him a protagonist worth rooting for.
The writing style is engaging and is also filled with a sense of humour, making the journey through the dark recesses of crime more enjoyable. Richards excels in building tension, and the pacing is perfect for the plot, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book so much so that I did not want to put it down.
"Fog of Silence" stands out with its unique exploration of the abuse of fame and the consequences of turning a blind eye to the powerful. It's a thought-provoking and exhilarating read that captivated me from the first page to the last.
If you are a fan of crime and suspense, "Fog of Silence" is a must-read. SJ Richards delivers a knockout punch with this instalment, solidifying the Luke Sackville series as a powerhouse in contemporary crime fiction. A definite 5-star read—I loved it

Excellent Luke Sackville thriller!

After listening to the Black Money audiobook – Luke Sackville #2 – I thought I was getting addicted to this series. Not that I’ve listened to Fog of Silence, the third Luke Sackville book, I can conclusively say I’m hopelessly addicted to listening to this series. Fog of Silence finds Luke and his Ethics team pursuing a rumor of impropriety of a heinous nature in a media company.

Once again everyone in the team gets involved in the investigation, however Josh takes the lead role for reasons that will become apparent as you read or Isten to the book. I thought Black Money took on some dark and gritty themes, but the themes in Fog of Silence are at least as dark and dirty if not worse than those in Black Money. If I’ve got your curiosity up, then grab the book/audiobook and tuck in for an action-packed story that is dead sericeous in parts but tends to lighten up when Mr. Filcher or Glen Baxter come into the picture.

Along with S J Richards' excellent story, Samuel James does an excellent job narrating this story. His distinct voices for each of the characters bring them to life each time I hear their voices. Furthermore, his pacing/delivery and vocal variation brings the overall story to life and makes it near impossible to stop listening for any reason.

I have had a lot of time in pain and lots of days in hospital on various infusions etc so reading has definitely become a solace and this was one of the books that really helped at this time. From the moment I opened it on my Kindle I was hooked and finished it in a couple of hours, I couldn't put it down.

This is the third book in the series, but if you haven't read any others this could be read as a standalone. however, I would highly recommend the series as it is fantastic.
It is well written with a compelling story line that kept me riveted completely, i don't think I even stopped to have a drink. The characters are well developed and I have come to really love them, especially Luke.

The pacing is perfect with a good amount of tension and atmosphere. Twisty and unpredictable, but, also tying up some loose ends from the previous books.

I honestly cannot recommend this series enough and I can't wait for the next book with Luke and his amazing Ethics team, hell, at this point I want to be on his team. I am ready to go all Liam Neeson on them and sell myself as the perfect team mate with my particular set of skills. Years of thrillers have prepared me for this very moment and I am ready to take it 😂

This book is the third of the series, I read this as a standalone, only because I didn’t realise it’s a series. However it definitely didn’t deter me whatsoever, so yes it can be read as a standalone.
This is a cracking crime thriller. I was definitely intrigued, then I just got obsessed.
Mr Luke (ex DCI), I just love him, he is caring, shows empathy, he’s one of my favourite characters. So the story is, Luke has been asked to investigate a few people that work for a tv company. It has become a big whistleblower situation, because of the nature that these individuals are doing. There is allegations of grooming young boys, 16 years & under, lads who are getting abused etc, not pleasant at all. Whilst the Ethic team are working on this, there is a serial killer going round.
This is a very dark read, but the author creates the atmosphere very well, not seedy or anything. There were a few times I was really clenching my teeth, I didn’t want certain people getting hurt. It wasn’t all doom and gloom, the characters really showed their personalities, funny moments.
I can tell you now, this story took its hold on me, it is fantastic.

I really enjoyed this book! I have read book 2 in the series Black Money so it was nice to see our characters return and see what they would be investigating this time! Luke remained very much Luke, however we did see the fact that he did consider going out on a date with someone which I think is progress!

I still love the description of Luke as being very tall and large, and I do love how that comes in handy at times. Josh was more of a main character within this book with his going undercover and whilst he still does make me laugh with the way he acts and things he says, I do feel that he was almost growing up a bit in this one!

I thought the fact that Luke was learning things about his team that he didn't know about them was still very interesting and makes me look forward to another book! As for the storyline of this one, it was difficult to know who was in the frame. There was almost two different strains of storyline but they were centred around the same thing and same people so it was very clever as to how it was done.

I really like the writing style of S J Richards and find that once I've picked the books up - I can't seem to put them down again! I think the pacing is brilliant and has me reading 'just one more chapter' and then I'm at the end lol!

If you love a good detective book, especially one with great twists and sometimes dark humor, you absolutely need to read this series. Fog of Silence is the third installment of the Luke Sackville thriller series by SJ Richards.

It's really fun to read a series focused on a different kind of detective hero. But I'd start with book one: Taken to the Hills! I'm always a big fan of starting from the beginning, but I think this is one of those stories that you can technically read standalone. I'm really not a good judge of that - but I think it's okay? You will definitely miss out on some of the nuance of the characters, and I personally think that would be sad, because the characters absolutely make the series. Each book shows them growing more into their roles, and the authors writing just gets better.

The dark, thrilling parts get darker, and the funny parts get funnier. I think every review I see mentions Josh, and if the author didn't mean for that to happen, he's an accidental genius - because Josh is one of those absolutely adorable, bumbling sidekicks that you just want to squeeze and hold tight like a teddy. But he also gets his job done, and you imagine he's really cute in a nerdy kind of way - even though he is decidedly not nerdy, I just imagine he looks it for some reason.

We've got a bit of a love triangle going in this book, to add some tension. The romance hasn't been utilized much in this series, it's going to be a true #slowburn, but I'm okay with that. Some of us survived watching Bones, for heaven's sake. *wink* So I can wait for the pay off, as long it comes.

Can't wait for the next one, set for May!

The series does cover some dark and disturbing topics, so please view the content warnings.

Content Warnings: Pedophilia (Late Teens), SA, Assault, Murder, Torture, Coma, Medical Setting, Infidelity, Parental Death, Spousal Death, Dementia/Alzheimer's, Adoption, Blended Families, Adult Situations, Adult Language

Fog of Silence is book three of the Ex-DCI Luke Sackville series, but it can definitely be read as a standalone.

We follow Luke and his team in investigating the rumours around big names who work at a large entertainment company. As they go undercover, shocking and dark discoveries come to light. But that's not all, within those discoveries.. it seems like a serial killer is on the loose too.

The Luke Sackville series has quickly become a firm favourite for me for crime thrillers. Fog of Silence is a fast paced, page turning read, with our favourite Ethics Team leading the way.

Similar to my previous review on book two, Black Money, I love the characters and their individual personalities - especially Josh with his quirks. I'm enjoying seeing them all develop as we move through the series.

I'm very much looking forward to book number four, and seeing where Luke and his team take us next!

I really enjoyed the 3rd book in the series and even more excited to see there will be a book 4 soon!

I love being back with Luke and his Ethics team, I like the fact Sam and Josh have leading roles in this book and their own missions as it were. The storyline in this installment hooked me early on, Josh is as loveable in this as the last book and I enjoyed reading how he helped Luke with the assignment.

I like how the story progressed, it was fast paced, gripping and definitely nail biting at times! I love Steve's writing style and I'm looking forward to reading more from him in the future. I also like the fact that the team is a small, close knit and loyal bunch who look out for each other but get the job done too.

I'd recommend this series if you like crime, fast paced, murder mysteries. Luke has a loveable, friendly team of 'misfits' that work well together and create an amazing team!

In his job as Head of Ethics for Filcher’s, former DCI Luke Sackville finds himself embroiled in a potential celebrity grooming scandal in prone of their client companies, GNE. With the help of his investigation team, he discovers that there is a lot more going on than he originally thought—a serial killer is involved. Luke is a clever, deep thinking bear of a man who gets the job done. He is loyal and backs his team 100%. There is the slightest hint of a potent romance in the future with his colleague Samantha. The youngest member of the group, Josh, comes into his own in this book and is a major player in the story. The book is exceptionally well written and pacy, flowing easily. It’s a gripping page turner that had me devouring it in one go. I really like Luke and the rest of the characters. I’ve become addicted to this series and can’t wait for the next book to see what is in store for Luke and his team.

This is the 3rd book in the Luke Sackville series and it dealt with a sensitive topic that sadly is still prevalent in todays society, probably more than we realise. Young teenage boys are being lured to 'celebrity' parties and being groomed by older men. Luke and his team uncover the clues and get satisfaction from bring sleaze to the forefront. Another winner.

Luke runs a team at a private company. His employees are typical office employees with only Josh attending one class of additional training. It is book 3 and once again his employees are put in dire situations - attending parties is one thing. Attending to see if there trouble with underage guests is another thing. Plus why would Erica take 6 SIX suitcases to a 2 night trip to pick up her daughter. She also is now going to be the Duchess and live in a home with 20 pls bedrooms and she is whining??? Why would Brandon take Sam to an alley - that storyline made no sense except to further traumatize Sam who is still getting callings from the former boyfriend for a menage a trois with the new girlfriend who barely speaks English. Please don't let the Luke and Same story going anywhere - have him date Rachel if you must The storylines in general are fine but the danger to the employees and the dumb boss are getting old - need to take a break

The third book in the Luke Sackville series and it is another belter.
This focus of Luke's team in this book is GNE which is a global news and entertainment company. There are some shady things going on which even the top bosses at GNE don't want to acknowledge, but once it is brought to the ethics team attention, it is up to Luke and his team to get to the bottom of the killings and flush out the culprit.
We go on a bumpy ride with Luke and his team in this one, with a few close calls!
What I really enjoy when reading a series is seeing the characters develop each book and watching them grow as a team, S J Richards pulls this off brilliantly and each character now has a defined personality which just adds even more to the book.
Totally enjoyed this gripping book, lots going on to grab you from the first page.
Highly recommend.
Happy Reading.

And here we have another gripping book from SJ Richards that just keeps you on your toes from start to finish. I have fallen in love with this series - and have been lucky enough to tour on all 3 books so far.

The characters are so likeable - 2 favourites for me are Luke and Josh. But especially Luke. He has such a well developed character with so many different layers and such a history. I think that I need to be under his employ at Filchers immediately!

This particular book had an amazing plot to it with so many twists and turns. It’s amazing how even though this is book 3 in the series - I still get surprised by the story itself as they have all been so different!

I can honestly say that I cannot wait for book 4 to be published now and cannot wait to jump back in with my favourite ethics team on their next job turned investigation!
