A Small Town, Single Dad, Best Friend's Older Brother Romance
He’s a single dad who never wants to marry again. She’s his little sister’s best friend who can’t stand him. But when a hotel reservation goes wrong and there’s only one bed, things heat up…
After sixteen years away, I finally moved back to Starry Hills with my two kids, determined to heal the rift with my family and help with the family’s winery business.
Slowly, my children and I are finding our place in Starry Hills. But then summer vacation arrives and my kids keep finding their way to her property.
Emilia “Millie” Mendoza, the wedding planner who is extremely close to my family.
Except she wants nothing to do with me. From the first time she saw me after I got back, she’s glared and told me to leave her alone.
Which would be a lot easier if she didn’t keep showing my children the kindness and attention they never got from their mother.
Every swim lesson, bedtime story, or word of encouragement chips away at my walled-up heart.
And then we’re forced to work together at a wedding expo, they lose her reservation, and we have to share a room.
That one bed soon changes everything.
But making her fall apart with my hands and mouth is the easy part. Because Emilia has burdens of her own.
Ones that might keep us apart.
Except Emilia is the one I want to stay with us forever. And I’ll do whatever it takes to win her. ----- Stay With Me Forever is a single dad, best friend’s little sister, age gap, steamy romance with no third act break-up. Full of feels, banter, and family (and lots of crazy group text messages). Happy ending guaranteed.
Kayla Chase writes sexy, feel-good romance full of laughter, friendships, and family. Her stories usually include crazy get togethers, fun festivals or events, and towns that feel like characters themselves. She also writes happy endings because real life and adulting can be way too hard.
She lives near Seattle but also grew up in California, which gives her lots of beautiful places to include in her stories (such as Sonoma wine country). While she's also lived in Japan and England, she has yet to figure a way to get her characters to those places. (But she does travel on a shoestring when she gets the chance!)
When not writing, she loves to read, jog on her treadmill, fit in some yoga, or try new recipes in the kitchen. More often than not, her cats derail her plans and make things, er, interesting.
*I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This book was so good. I don’t know how I’m going to talk about this without dropping spoilers, but I’ll try. If you like grumpy MMC, single dad, small town romance, with spice, this is the book for you.
This is book 2 of the Starry Hills Series but it can be read as a stand-alone. So this book is about Emelia Mendoza and Weston Wolfe who are neighbours in rural California. Weston (who everyone calls West) is 36 and Emelia (who everyone calls Millie) is his little sister’s 25 year old best friend. 16 years after he left starry hills, recently widowed West comes back into town with his two kids to help his family with their winery business. Millie, who runs a wedding planning business really doesn’t like him and doesn’t try to hide it, but his kids keep finding their way on her property, which is next door. They both go on on a work trip out of town and end up having to share a room, and you can imagine what happens next…
This book is so good.
So West is grumpy because of stuff that happened to make him leave town and because of his crappy marriage to his late wife. Millie also has unresolved childhood trauma that makes her avoid relationships. Honestly, their romance would have gone smoother if they’d had gone to therapy years ago. But then I guess where’s the fun in that? As much as West is a grump, he loves his kids fiercely and it’s endearing. In the beginning he even says he won’t get romantically involved with another woman until his kids are grown because he doesn’t want to mess them up of it doesn’t work out. The only thing I didn’t like about West is his frequent swearing in front of his kids. They kept telling him “Daddy, bad word.” They’re ten years old, you’d think he’d have it under control by now. I love West’s kids. They’re twins who are very adventurous, with strong personalities and add a lot of humour to the story, especially with their kiddie brutal honesty (you know how kids just say things as they seem them). I also loved how they tried to play matchmaker between West and Millie.
From the start, West and Millie are attracted to each other, but they try to deny it because of their personal issues. The spice is so good. There aren’t a ton of spicy scenes. There’s a good balance between plot, the sweet romance, and spice. And the spice scenes were written so well. It was so good watching them fall for each other before they realised that they were falling.
Now this is a small town romance, so you know their families are very much involved in their lives. Despite some underlying tension between West and his brothers you can see they’re a tight knit family. They look out for each other and are very much invested in each other’s happiness. Most of them live on the family property or close to it, except Nolan who is a movie star and lives in LA, I think, and Zane, a navy seal, who we never meet. They even see Millie as part of the family.
Now as much as I loved this book, the reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the lack of drama towards the end. You know how these books go. About 70 – 80% of the way through, when things are finally going well in the relationship there’s either a 3rd act break up (which this book doesn’t have) or some kind of drama that threatens the relationship or someone’s livelihood or someone’s life. This book had the drama, but it wasn’t dramatic enough for me. I was expecting a lot more activity than there was.
That being said I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves small town romance and even found family because Millie’s true family in this book are the Wolfes and her group of girlfriends. I haven’t read the first book in the series yet, but it’s on my TBR now. This book alludes to some drama that occurs in that book and I really want to know what happened. That book is about the second Wolfe brother Beck (West is the oldest) and the third book, coming out in March 2024 is about the third brother Nolan. There are three other brothers in the family and the sister Abby, and Millie’s brother Rafe, who is a footballer (as in soccer) in England. So hopefully we’ll get a few more books in the series. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series.
Stay With Me Forever is the second book in the Starry Hills series. It's West and Emmy's story. For the first half it's more West's story. He returns home with his twins and tries to reconnect with his family. There's a lot of ups and downs and as a reader, I struggled to connect with him sometimes. He held himself more stand offish and that's due to his late wife and her parents. His life is his children. He gets roped into helping Emmy and Abby (his sister) at a convention where Abby set them up. From that point West realized there was something going on with Emmy and managed to get it out of her. His connection to her and Emmy's heartbreak allows the reader to connect more with them both. While West builds a relationship with Emmy, he works to repair the relationship with his siblings. The twins play an important role. They keep giving their father hints about finding someone new as they try to acclimate to their new home. Emmy's brother popping up and the new soccer club being created gives a hint to future books. While it was hard to connect with West, the way he treated Emmy and tried to reconnect with his family did redeem him. He was more guarded which one understood as the his and the twins' lives before returning home was slowly revealed. He's love for his children and Emmy showed he was slowly willing to take risks and live again. Emmy was loveable "other" sibling the West family took in, but the reveal of her story made the heart break that she had to go through that. She was able to open up and find family and love. I'm voluntarily leaving this review.
West recently returned home to Starry Hills with his twins, back to his family. He was unhappy, grumpy and couldn’t help but notice his younger sisters friend Emilia. She’s a wedding planner, and his kids love spending time with her. He’s got his past to overcome and no room for a woman in his life. She’s got her past issues too and doesn’t believe she’s worthy of love and happiness. Can these two overcome their obstacles and find happiness?
This is the second book the in Starry Hills series, and is just a delightful as the first. It can be read as a stand-alone but you’ll find extra delight by reading the first book too.
West and Emilia bring out the best in each other, supporting one another, helping them overcome their past issues and tackle them head on. West is grumpy and stoic with a side dirty mouth, but his love for his kids and Emilia being out his soft side.
Avery and Wyatt will steal your heart, as will West and Emilia. The bedtime story time is such fun, and connects them all in such a cute way.
The family group chats and emoji overload return in this book, and are just as fun and silly as the previous book. You’ll fall in love with the whole Wolfe family.
I’m truly adore this series, love all the characters, their interactions and their stories. I can not wait for the next book in the series. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to read this fantastic book.
WESTON WOLFE!!! Let me just say that I have never wanted to leave my husband for a fictional character until now. West is the epitome of perfect man. He is terribly guarded and damaged from his relationship with his late wife. While he starts out not wanting to consider ever dating again he still shows amazing amounts of love to his children. He is struggling to get back into a comfortable groove with his family but can’t seem to stay away from Emilia. Emilia Mendoza aka Emmy is just as guarded and troubled as West but is so determined to keep paying for past sins she won’t entertain the thought of a relationship. When two broken people come together it makes for an absolutely amazing story. The banter and chemistry between the two is off the charts. I wanted nothing more than to protect them in a bubble of happiness that they both deserved more than they themselves realized. West is an amazing father, working on being a good brother, and makes the perfect boyfriend. Once he is in the bedroom I went absolutely feral for him. I silent screamed and happy danced through so much of this book. It may be my favorite book I read in 2023. It is 100% worth the read. If you love small town romance this is going to send you. I will most definitely be reading this again and continuing the series.
Emilia Mendoza and Weston Wolfe knew each other in their small town of Starry Hills. Emilia was his sister’s best friend. Weston had been gone for 16 years and felt it was time to return with his children and make amends with his family. Emilia is kind to the 10-year-old twins and they were happily responding to it as they often wandered over to spend time with her. Her attitude toward Weston, however, was not nearly as friendly.
Emilia is an event planner and when Beck wants Weston to help her at the Reno wedding expo, which he absolutely didn’t want to go to, a mix-up with the reservations means she must share a room with Weston who had a Queen-sized bed for 3 nights. He could at least get a cot to avoid further temptation. But the bed would hold both of them just fine . . . Could this be a new beginning for the two of them? She loves his kids and his family. Can they overcome past issues? And are they ready to move on… together?
West carries a lot of baggage from his young adulthood, from his disregard of his dad and his mom, guilt from his marriage, his wife. He also carries resentment toward his inlaws. I love seeing that he can move forward, that he can grow and stretch and learn to be happy again. Emmy is heartbreak. Her guilt, her baggage is huge. I love that West is able to help her see the error in her ways. I love Abby and Kate and the BFF crew. They are great. I love the brothers. I will be looking for a book about Sabrina and Beck. I hope.Nolan gets a story. Surely Kate has one. I am still a bit confused about how West was gone line sixteen years but his kids are only ten, almost eleven. I love the kids. They are sweet and kid and just need love. We also need a book from Rafe.

Stay With Me Forever is the second book in the Starry Hills series, which is West and Emmy's story. We meet them both in the first book of the series; Want Me Forever, which is part of the Starry Hills series. West and Emmy both have deep scars from their tragic pasts which make a relationship between them seemingly impossible. Over time, they both heal and grow and come together first out of friendship before giving in to anything more. I absolutely love this new series and the characters and setting. West’s children were an important and adorable aspect of this story, as was his extended family with whom he’s been estranged for quite some time. I am very much looking forward to the next installment of this series. If you want your heartstrings tugged, frayed and healed, this is a story (series) for you!
He is a widower with two kids who has finally returned to his family's winery after being estranged for almost 12 years. She is his little sister's best friend and the next-door neighbor who runs a wedding venue. The closer he gets to her the more he wants to solve the mystery of why she is so unhappy. His first marriage was a disaster, and he has decided that he will probably never marry again. His twins have a differing opinion on the matter and boy do they make things interesting. I really enjoyed this story it was sad and funny and unpredictable.

✨ARC review ✨ This was my first book by Kayla. I love a single dad and when you add best friends brother, I was sold!
Emmy and West had great chemistry together and his twins loved her! The couple both had some trauma from their past and worked through it to be together. I love how they never gave up and worked through it and came out short.
Thank you so much for this ARC. I truly enjoyed Emmy and West! I can’t wait for Nolan and Katie!!
➰single dad ➰best friends older brother ➰no third-act break up ➰one bed ➰grumpy hero
This is the second book in the series. It’s not necessary to read in order but it would help with enjoyment of the books. At the beginning of the book it is more centered on Weston’s story and how he’s moving back home to try and reconnect with his family. Emmie and Weston have history and they both fit their attraction to each other now that he’s back. The ups and Downs keep you interested in the story. The story flows well and the characters are well developed. HEA.

What is not to love when a book has single dad, sister’s best friend and forced proximity. Absolutely loved, loved, loved Millie and West! He has moved back to his hometown with his children and they are all adjusting. And the kids are bonding with one of his neighbors, who happens to be Millie. These two have some amazing chemistry and when they get stuck sharing a hotel room….look out. But they both have stuff from the years they were apart that are revealed.

Someone said small town romance, best friend's sister, single dad, and age gap? Sign me up because it's catnip for me 🫠.. The way Kayla writes is beautiful. The characters are going through so many things at the same time, but they find a way together out of the darkness they we're in.. The kids were super cute and always there to lighten the harder parts of the story. The family connections were perfectly written. I truly loved it! 😍
Sizzling hot. I loved how West loves his children and will do anything to protect them. I really liked how he got Emmy to reconsider her preconceived notions about the past but she also made him look at his past and future differently too. I really like the way the family pulls together even when apart. West's children were adorable and added fun to the harder aspects of the story. The series really gets a grip of the reader.
Stay With Me Forever by Kayla Chase is a good, and enjoyable spicy steamy single dad small town best friend's older brother age gap romance read. The story has a great entertaining world building story line. The characters are great, banter, and they have great sizzling hot chemistry. This story is a very entertaining read. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This is the second book in the series of Starry Hills. I did not read the first book and don’t think it hurt my enjoyment of this book. This book focused on Emmy and West. West has returned home to repair his relationship with his family and to raise his twins with family around. Emmy has been hurt previously too. So these two really just start off as friends and eventually it develops into something more. It was definitely a slow burn but it had some great moments.
I think I enjoyed Emmy's and Weston's story more than Sabrina's and Beck's. The story tore at my heartstrings....I could understand and feel both their pain from their past. How they both were able to overcome that with the help of Weston's children and family was beautiful. I cannot wait for the next story in this series!!!
If you like any of these tropes I recommend you read this book... This was my first book by Kayla and let me tell you it wont be my last. I loved every second of this book. It had me all in my feelings.. Weston and Emilia helped each other overcome there pasts.
A fixer upper of the heart that will bring a smile to your face. Stay With Me Forever has tempting, personality that entices with emotion and delivers irresistible characters. Chase amplifies feelings of home in the most endearing of moments. From the humor to the heartache, you can't help but fall in love.
The second book in the Starry Hills series, a brother's best friend story. Emilia “Millie” Mendoza and single dad Weston Wolfe's story and what happens when there is only one bed. I enjoyed seeing their story come together and them get their happy ending. This is a new Author to me. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Stay With Me Forever was a very well written and enjoyable best friend's brother romance by Kayla Chase. I loved reading Emilia and Weston's story. Their chemistry was off the charts hot. If you enjoy steamy romance that will keep you reading to the last page, then their story is definitely for you.
Stay With Me Forever is the second book in the series but can be read as a stand-alone. Emmy is a wedding planner and lived with the Wolfe family for many years after her parents died. West left his family and Starry Hills with his new wife and stayed away after his fathers death but has returned with his children after his wife’s death. Both of them carry scars from their past but work to help each other forgive and move on. Emmy is so sweet but damaged and West is so growly but they bring out the best in each other and his children bring light into both of their lives. This novel was heartfelt and brought to lost souls together!
Emilia “Millie and West are honestly hard to like at first. They’re both very angsty and in their own heads. As the story moves on and you realize some of the things they went through things make sense and I started to like them more. I like that they make each other better even if it took them forever to figure it out.

I loved this book. Kayla really captured the true emotions of blaming yourself for situations out of you're control. West and Emmy both have issues and a troubled past. Reading how they come together, support each other and tackle to find a new norm was beautifully written. I would really recommend this whole series if you enjoy rom-'com romanced.
Spicy Read! I enjoyed this story so much! From the adorable children interactions to the hotness of some of the adult time, I was engaged and routing for Millie and Weston. Add in the forced proximity, and you have a wonderful cocktail of pieces that make a wonderful read!
Emmy and West are the absolute best. I will be honest, I received an ARC of this book. You can for sure ready it as a standalone, but I will for sure be going back to read book one. I need to know how Sabrina and Beck got together!
An enjoyable smouldering read with banter that kept me smiling throughout the storyline. There are plenty of sex scenes which I eventually skipped over. The support çharacters added to the story and were used well.
The spice in this was nice. 👌🏼 the story was cute too. Could have been a tad more drama. I feel like it was just very brushed over and solved without any conflict at all. Cute, easy read. Likeable characters and story.
