A video recording shows a dark vision of the future, where many of Ageha's friends are ruthlessly killed. To escape the danger posed by W.I.S.E, Ageha, Sakurako and the others must battle their way to freedom. But even if they escape, can they really fight fate and alter that treacherous future?
Thanks to Kabuto's uncle's shelter, Ageha and his friends have learned some critical information about the disaster to come. But then they run into the W.I.S.E. member who picked up on Sakurako's earlier telepathy---and it's going to be the hardest fight yet!
Once again, the answers to questions lead to more questions. Thanks to the W.I.S.E. enemy not being terribly smart, the group has uncovered a vital piece of information: the exact year. And Ageha realizes they have even less time left than he thought. They have months, at best, before history takes an irreversible course.
And seeing what becomes of the kids he just befriended is yet another thing pushing Ageha into blind rage. He's determined to figure out how to fix that. And conveniently, an enemy has approached.
Most of the volume is the fight that happens next. It's fun seeing what Ageha has made from his last training session, and what he decided on for his program (equally obvious, though, is that he can stand to improve it).
The other big highlight, obvious from both the cover and the volume title, is that Kabuto is starting to figure out his unique strengths as a psionist. It's fun how well his abilities mesh with his personality, and how he proves that his willingness to do anything to survive is hardly a weakness.
Overall this is a more action-packed volume, but it still throws out one whopper of a twist very early on. I rate this book Highly Recommended.
Everyone gets a fight against some baddies this time. Though it's disappointing when some battles can be resolved by "yeah I used psionics off-screen and it worked". Still, Yoshino's looks cool! I find the actual fight scenes pretty bland, and the character designs aren't something I'm inspired by. I find most of these Psyren volumes go by as perfectly adequate shonen battle stuff with no real strong points, except maybe the mystery of what happened in the time between the 'present' and the 'future'.
Easily the best volume so far, I’m gonna guess that one of our MCs is the main bad guy from the tape. Amamiya’s crazy face after she got shredded should’ve been a single page on its own cause it was pretty crazy. I am upset our goof character is pretty much just a danger compass tho. Also man these covers look good while the art in the series is just meh, this was the cover that made me want to read this but our main guy on the cover is the comedy character T-T

Psyren takes place a carefully constructed world and its overarching plot continually builds chapter by chapter. Don't start here - it really must be read from the beginning.
Still reeling from their small glimpse of the near future, Ageha and friends have no time to recover as they've been noticed and surrounded by the agents of W.I.S.E., who expect them to answer some pointed questions... or else.
The action reaches a fever pitch in this volume as our heroes are severely overmatched. The way they try to cope and use their powers in unexpected ways is a joy to watch and makes the battle riveting all the way through. Along the way a big revelation comes to light, we learn more about Psi powers and their uses, and further information is supplied about W.I.S.E. and their methods.
Another perfectly paced entry in the ongoing story of Psyren. The end of the volume promises interesting developments and an intriguing possible change in tone and/or direction. Looking forward to see where it all leads.
Ageha, Sakurako, Kirisaki, Hiryu and Oboro are transported back to the world of Psyren. Once there, they discover Kirsaki's uncle's bomb shelter. Inside the bomb shelter they find preserved newspapers and video recordings. These documents help them to understand how and when the future of the world falls into chaos. They find that the end of the world is only a year and a half away and an organization called W.I.S.E is behind all of the destruction.
I thought this book was action packed and thrilling! You get to see a more serious side of Kirisaki and you get to see him get angry. Kirisaki's character is very easy going and he doesn't have a wide range of emotions. Seeing him get angry and passionate about something was very refreshing. This book also left on a cliffhanger, so I am excited to read the next one! I would recommend this book to people who like manga and action books.
I really like that this manga's answer to what kind of people could survive suddenly being thrust into a post-apocalyptic world with only the benefit of new psionic powers is 'well. Really worrying people actually. But on the bright side at least they're self-aware enough to recognize it's weird their conscience doesn't pang at them killing humanoid presenting creatures? :DDDDD?' Don't take me wrong though, I love this cast, pop stars with a penchant for experimenting on chimera creatures and all. Also this story has really excellent fight scenes, like I am the worst about getting bored with fights (reasons why Bleach slides lower and lower down my list of shonen I bother picking up from the library) but these ones keep me consistently interested. 4 stars
While stuck in PSYREN, our heroes make a horrifying discovery - and one that hits exceedingly close to home for them. But the newfound information about where the creation of this horrific world began comes with another tough twist - A man named Dolkey and his lackeys come to confront the group.
I thought it was probably a good idea, the way the fight got split up in this issue. Not only does everyone get a chance to shine, but we see one specific character come into his own and grow in an unexpected way (and another show a side of himself they've been hinting at for quite some time now). However, I'm really hoping we get to see more of them all working as a group in future volumes, because the power sets they have are pretty fun and I'd like to see how they combine.
I thought the previous volume pretty cool but this one is the cherry on top! Pretty much events revolve around the group fighting Dolkey and his patrol officers. I loved seeing Ageha gain some control and how Oboro's motivation was just to "see what would happen". Plus we got to see Kabuto's ability come into being! "Ha. You think you're so powerful but there are some things only a worm can see!"
As a highlight we meet the star commanders! Dolkey was interesting but Shiner is so much better! And now I can't wait for them to fight more!
Volume 5 introduced Yoshina's improved skill and a ranking system within the Star commanders. It also introduced several high ranking star commanders. Unfortunately it seems as though Mochizuki had a bit of a dark edge with his Cure ability that I hope gets worked out and prevents him from going over the edge.
The problem with forgetting to review manga is that you tend to forget what happens from one volume to the next.
That being said, I do remember certain things in this volume that really made it spectacular. Kabuto received some nice development, and the world became even more intriguing as we learn more about it.
It is really cool that kabuto is a special psionist like the other and that he can sense attacks. When I read this book and the girl dies but its a fake i completely fell for it when done Toshiaki Iwashiro
I love this volume!! I especially loved the introduction of Kabuto's new powers, they're so cool! Of course, I'm prejudiced since I love that little guy anyways... :3
