Carly wants away from her criminal father's control. In book 1, she was acting as an informant for Nic before she ran. She shot Brandon in the leg and then let Nic know her father had a reward out for his family. He offered her protection, but she fled. Brandon has been hunting her down since. When he finds her, he crawls into her bed and interrupts her dreams about him. She tells him her truths about her father, then falls asleep safe for the first time. Brandon finds out Pat is planning to auction her v-card and then sell her into the slave trade. Once Pat is no more, they think they have things figured out. But no one knew Pat went to his grave with one more secret. Pat had arranged her marriage to Sean, who showed up to the wake to claim her. Carly is letting everyone know she is taking over for her da and making changes. Will she live long enough to make them? Getting kidnapped from her own wedding reception might change her chances of that.
I love seeing a woman doing what it takes to protect herself instead of relying on the man to save her. This mfc was a BaB herself. I hope all the brothers get their own books.

I was actually excited to read this since it’s teased as a cat-and-mouse chase kind of thing in the other book/novellas in this series. Well, the mouse got caught and eaten out in the first chapter, which is nice, I guess, if that's what you wanted. It wasn't what i was hoping for, like at all, so my interest was lost immediately.
The amount of smut got really boring—it’s limited how much smut and dirty talk you can write without it getting repetitive. And the plot was really boring. Like, I don’t care about Carly being the head of the Irish mafia. And let’s be real, she wasn’t even the head—Brandon and Nic were controlling everything. There were even scenes where Brandon was keeping things from her regarding what was going on with Sean and he was giving orders to 'her' men, even though she 'supposedly' is the boss.
I just think the level of 'caveman/alpha dude bro' the guys Fiona Davenport writes—especially in their mafia novellas—is way too much for me. I actually prefer it when the fmc has some agency and can stand up for herself.
For example: Brandon smashes her phone because she’s talking to her childhood best friend, who happens to be a guy. He doesn’t want her talking to him because he now wants to be the only man in her life. And she just does nothing, i think she smiles at him or something... Yeah, no thank you. If a guy smashes my phone, I’m gonna smash him right back even if he is 'the love of my life'.

This is a continuation of Nic and Gianna's storyline, full of all the Mafia conflicts and drama I enjoy.
This story moves well, the chemistry between these two characters is sizzling and steamy. Brandon is the DeLuca enforcer, and has claimed Carly (an Irish Mob daughter) as his own, and looks to protect her from her father. But Carly is capable of staying safe on her own, until she's not!
I enjoyed the action and intensity of this storyline, and recommend reading this book in the correct order, to avoid spoilers. I really liked this HEA!!

Brandon will get his girl!
Brandon DeLuca has been fighting his attraction to Carly because she is his enemies daughter. When she goes on the run because her father found out she betrayed him to the DeLucas, Brandon gives chase and plans on bringing her back to protect her and help her defeat her father. This is a great read and I loved it.

Just as entertaining as the 1st time
I loved this powerful couple. It wasn't about a timid heroine or a woman who was new to "the life" they lived. They fit together so nicely. No question was in charge during their sexy times though. This book had a little more intensity to it. Put all that together, and you have a winner.

From the moment they met Brandon wanted Carly even if he didn't trust her, then she shot him escaping him and he knew it was love. Carly found Brandon sexy beyond belief so when he shows up at her hiding spot she isn't to disappointed especially when he claims her had his in this fun and entertaining read.
