What is the person she despises is the perfect man for her?
He’s known as a Casanova, a flirt, a philanderer. But to me, he’s nothing but a pain in the neck. We’re like oil and water, fire and explosives - a volatile mix that can’t seem to stay away from each other. Twelve years ago, Jack Szeto was the bad boy with the lip ring and panty-melting grins. I was the goodie-two-shoes with the fancy last name who never fell for his act. Now, he’s a devil in an expensive suit - the Jack of all trades who still has the power to seduce women from all walks of life. When my best friend begged me to model in a sexy photoshoot for an upcoming romance novel from a bestselling author, I agreed without knowing Jack would be oneof my partners in the racy sessions. Suddenly, every room with him in it feels stifling. Every brush of his body against mine feels intoxicating. And the intensity in his gaze threatens to blaze through my carefully erected barriers. I’m forced to wonder if his bad boy persona is all an act or if I’m going to be another woman falling victim to his charms. Or maybe he’s the brightest spark I’ve been waiting for all my life.
Tropes for The Brightest Spark: ✔️Unrequited love ✔️Opposite sides of the tracks ✔️Enemies to lovers (from the female character’s perspective) ✔️Touch her and you’ll regret it ✔️Forced proximity ✔️Bad boy with good girl ✔️Forbidden ✔️Swoon and light angst and holidays!
Victoria is a lover of all things romance, including movies, books, and television shows. A hopeless romantic since childhood, she is always dreaming up stories and happily ever afters. Caramel lattes are her fuel in the morning and she can usually be found reading anything she can get her hands on. She lives with her family and a beautiful Siberian husky in sunny California.
When Victoria said that this book would be brighter than the previous one (which made me cry), she wasn't lying.
The story of Jack and Sarah starts when they were teenagers, but it is: rich girl, poor boy, so more or less we see where it goes, now from the previous book we see how life has gone for Jack and also for Sarah, this book was a breath of fresh air, because yes, it has that angst that Victoria's books are known for, but not so much and I can say that it is one of her spiciest books, plus the little touch of Christmas festivities that I liked.
Their relationship is slow, he's always been in love with her but he doesn't think it's enough and she has her prejudices towards him that made me doubt her a bit, when they have to work together the sparks fly and they can't hide that they're attracted to each other, it was slow but I liked it that way.
It was a good read as always, with charming characters and scenes, a little short compared to the other books in this series, but it felt more than perfect.
Now this is the last book in the series and I'm sad because this series has a very special place in my heart, but also I'm excited for the new series which I have high expectations for because of where it is set.
Thanks to the author and Grey's Promotions for the e-arc in exchange for my honest review!!

My oh my that was intense! Jack and Sarah’s story was so rocky, cute and cruel all at once. He was so in love with her since day one and never stopped hoping. I loved seeing their story develop, how they get closer to one another, with all the obstacles thrown at them. I love Victoria Lum’s writing style and can’t wait to finish reading the LA Hearts series!

Ever since the previous books from the series, I've been waiting for Jack and Sarah's story. Their love didn't disappoint me at all.
Jack always gave the impression that he was a flirt and a playboy, but all those years he had eyes for her and kept taking care of her behind the scenes. He definitely had some inner demons that prevented him from telling her how he felt. When she finally decided to cut off her family and prove herself to the world, he started getting closer bit by bit.
Sarah is sweet, strong and feisty heroine that wants to turn her life around. She finally has the strength to stand up to her father, who controls her. During the course of the story she had a lot of encounters with Jack...the flirt who reminded her of that particular father. But bit by bit, she sees his other side...a side that he never showed up to the world. After a while, she realizes that he's not the man she thought he was. She saw that he gave up so much for her and made up her mind that he was the man for her - an equal partner for life.
I will also mention that I was so satisfied with the love scenes. They were hot, smuty and kinky 🥵🥵🥵. The chemistry was insane and they were so good together. I loved every aspect of the smut 😍😍😍.
Overall, I loved Jack and Sarah's love story. I seriously can't wait for the author's new series to come out. They will be mind-blowing 🤯.
***I received an ARC from Grey's Promotion and this is my voluntary review.***
The Brightest Spark by Victoria Lum is book 4 in the LA Hearts Series. This is the story of Jack and Sarah. Jack and Sarah have known about each other since they where younger. But Sarah is the well off girl who thinks Jack is just a playboy with no real feelings. Jack has always wanted Sarah but nothing have every progressed past a yearning. Now in their present day they are thrown together to do a photo shoot when Sarah sees that there is more to Jack than she first thought. This book does have some triggering issues so please read the author's notes. Enjoyed this book and I hope to read more from this author.
ARC- Wow!! This book was SO GOOD!!! I absolutely loved Jack and Sarah!! I love how they bickered and how protective even from a distance Jack was. This was super spicy 🥵 🥵🥵🥵 let just say… the living room scene 🔥🔥🔥🔥 5 star ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ MUST read!!! I love Sarah’s attitude and way she grabbed on to the world with her own hands. She is a strong willed character!! Loved her!
I don't think words can adequately describe what I'm feeling right now with the release of The Brightest Spark, which is the final book of the LA Hearts series. I started my journey as a writer back in October 2022 when I decided to finally say F it to waiting and thinking about being a writer (I managed to procrastinate on this goal for over fifteen years) to finally sitting down and putting words on paper. The Sweetest Agony was a result of this exercise, and I published it on March 29, 2023. Since then, I've put a lot more time and energy into reading a lot of writing and craft books and I hope you can see my evolution as a writer with each book in the LA Hearts series. While this series is ending, a new one is beginning. My next book, When Hearts Ignite, is the first book of my New York City series, The Orchid, and stars Steven Kingsley from LA Hearts, the little brother of the Kingsley family we watched grow up before us. So, while LA Hearts has wrapped up, it's not truly goodbye as our dear friends will pop in and make appearances in The Orchid in the future!
Thank you for being part of this journey and I hope you enjoy Jack's and Sarah's story. There's my classic swoon, lighter angst (all for the holidays), and tons of bickering and fun.
The Brightest Spark by Victoria Lum is nothing short of brilliance. Victoria has a way with her words and such great development of characters that she automatically pulls you in.
She puts so much thought into the small details of Each situation that has you left in awe of her incredible writing abilities.
I fell in love with the bad boy Jack in the previous book and was so excited to get his story. I loved watching him evolve from a rough teen to an incredible man.
And Sarah is just an amazing FMC. Her spunk and red headed attitude was off the charts. I adore her and her strong female character. I was so proud of the way she handled her family and chose freedom over money.
Such a great storyline
Highly recommend. Great job as always, Victoria.
Thank you for this eARC in return for my honest review.

Years later, his luck has changed a little and he finds himself working as one of The Orchid's entertainment managers, thanks to his best friend Adrian (The Harshest Hope), his charm makes him perfect for this job and it's right there where he sees his angel again, although she continues to seem upset with him, although he has no idea why, that does not stop him from contemplating her from afar and dreaming about what could be , but an opportunity presents itself to him to have her close and he does not plan to waste it. Sarah Winstead is this beautiful girl with money and privileges, but this has never given her happiness, she wants to fend for herself, tired of the whole family thing and her ways, she decides to quit and go to New York, so she finds herself in The Orchid when her best friend Emily (The Harshest Hope) convinces her to participate in a photo shoot, what she doesn't know is that behind this is Jack, he unnerves her and accelerates her pulse at the same time, she hates his ways of playboy when she is equally aware of his charm. Now that they get together for the photo session, it will be the perfect setting for the attraction they have felt to develop and both can see the other beyond what they have perceived from afar, finding in the other the part they were missing and a love like no other. I loved this story and enjoyed it from beginning to end, Jack with his charm and with such a beautiful heart, Sarah so strong and determined, both feeling unworthy, they touched my heart, a story that you will fall in love with, where we can enjoy of all the couples in the previous books of the Series and that opens the doors to what is to come. I am delighted with this story and I invite you to meet all these characters, you will not regret it. Highly recommended! *Thanks to Victoria Lum and Grey's Promotions for my ARC. Review: Jack’s story is here and ready to break the hearts of all romance readers everywhere! Victoria crafts a wonderful redemption and forced proximity holiday workplace romance for the final book in the LA Hearts series. Jack and Sarah’s story is the perfect way to top off all the sweltering heat, angst and tension that builds up within the world of these alpha men and their fiery females.
Jack is the kid from the wrong side of the tracks. We met him in Adrian’s story and saw snippets of him in the other books as well but he really shines bright in this book. From the moment I met him in this book I fell in love with his character. The utter devotion he had for Sarah, much to her chagrin at first, was tragic to read since her refusal to truly see him began to finally chip away at him in this book.
I enjoyed how he was not truly the Casanova she tries to picture him as but is instead someone who has been beat down time and time again to be the man for her. I thought the way Victoria made him stand up for himself was a big plus in this book since we rarely see the MMC backing off to protect himself from heartbreak and I loved that he protected himself from her when needed.
Sarah is the back sheep of her family and the jilted heiress who wants to pave her own way. I thought the inner strength she had unregards to proving her worth was admirable but I wanted to shake her so many times for dismissing Jack! The way she refused to meet him for the longest time made me want to dislike her character since it was so obvious how much he liked her and enjoyed her company.
However, I did love how Victoria did not make her snobby or stuck up but rather a little broken and torn. The way she learns to accept herself and know her worth was a defining moment in her POV since it finally forced her to see how Jack has been there for her all along. The sly way her friends point out that he has been quietly protecting her for years also added to her conflict since she had never had someone protect her before.
These two are full of angst. Jack is a grade A dirty talker but also a cinnamon roll hero who surrounds himself in charm. I loved reading all the push and pull they had when they bantered and fought since it was just a long buildup of tension that allowed for their insane chemistry to overflow. The forbidden workplace aspect of their romance also added to the thrill of their romance and I loved how Jack gave everything of himself for Sarah and wanted to see how she was perfect on her own the way she was. Victoria gave us the perfect ending to this series of interconnected romances and I cannot wait for Steven’s story in the new series!
Rating: 100+, Jack is the best MMC hands down in LA Hearts!
We end the LA Hearts series with such a bang with The Brightest Spark. The series started off with such an incredible sweet cinnamon roll mmc and the series has just been one upping the previous book, one after the other and The Brightest Spark is no different. I still feel like The Harshest Hope will be my favorite of this series but The Brightest Spark is different and beautiful in it's own right.
We get to see Jack cameo in his best friend Adrian's book, The Harshest Hope, and you got to see bits and pieces of his inner turmoil and what the future will look like for him. With all the underground fighting and bad grades the only thing Jack really had going for him was his smooth moves with the ladies. Though one particular girl was immune to his charms, even seeming to hate Jack with very little interaction.
With life seeming to be going down a very slippery slope, still fighting and barely graduating from community college, Jack's best friend gets him a life altering job interview with THE top notch entertainment establishment in NYC. Now being the Entertainment Manager at The Orchid, Jack's life is finally straightening out but can Jack keep everything from collapsing while trying to keep a client happy, going after the girl of his dreams and a promotion around the corner?
Sarah is bidding her time working for her families company while trying to find the perfect opportunity to move to NYC and find the job she's always wanted to do. With a father as controlling as hers and a mother trying to keep the status quo, Sarah feels sufficated. With an out of the blue offer landing in her lap to be one of her favorite authors cover model, Sarah decides this might just be the opportunity she was looking for. Once she finally tells her parents she's quiting their company to persue her dreams she knows her father will cut her off, whatever she makes as a cover model should help get her plans moving.
What Sarah was not preparing for was to also be doing the shoot with a sleaze ball, that didn't like being turned down nor the womanizing, Jack. With tensions rising higher, Sarah is faced with seeing a side of Jack she kept trying to turn a blind eye to. Not wanting to believe this side of Jack was real, the side he hide away fearing he wasn't enough.
Can Sarah look past the mask Jack has in place to protect his heart? Will Jack be able to prove he's not the womanizer she's always believed him to be? Or will misconceptions get the better of them and result in them push each other away for good? But you best believe the sparks will be flying!

Being a fan of this series I couldn't wait for more! As soon as I reached the end of The Harshest Hope I started looking forward to this fourth installment immediately! I picked it up and got right back into the LA Hearts world! I really enjoyed this story so very much!
Sarah and Jack's journey pulled me in right from the very get go! These two have been in each other's lives for many years. The thing is though, Sarah isn't a fan of Jack, but it's the opposite for Jack. When a photoshoot throws these two together and with every flash of the camera, can Jack and Sarah give could it uncover so much more for them? and will they give into each other?
I was so happy that these two were getting their own book! Both Sarah and Jack had my undivided attention so quickly! The back and forth banter between them cracked me up and had me grinning. There was so much more than meets the eye when it came to both Jack and Sarah and getting to peel back their layers was something I very much enjoyed! I loved the uniqueness of how they were brought closer together through the photoshoot.
I admired Sarah, especially when it came to tackling her life. Jack had me falling and going all heart eyes with the way he was all about Sarah. I adored the sides that these two brought out in each other. Jack got under Sarah's skin in unexpected ways and experiencing the feelings they ignited in each other was such a treat. Their chemistry was undeniable and the sparks that flew between them had me blushing so much! Both Sarah and Jack had got right in my heart and had me going through all the emotions with them!
Sometimes another soul can ignite the unexpected in your heart and open it in so many ways which shined through Sarah and Jack's journey!
I was so happy to be back in this world and that I got to reunite with the LA Hearts crew! These characters and their stories stay with you!
With The Brightest Spark, Ms.Lum has created such a great and refreshing read that brought depth, steam, and so many feels! This author always hooks me with her writing and with the realness that pours from her characters and words. If you haven't checked out this series yet, you so need to! I can't wait to read what this author brings our way next! 💛❄
Be sure to read the author's note.

Something I HAVE to say right off the bat: I think Jack is my favorite MMC of the series?! And that’s saying a lot considering how attached I am to Parker! There’s just something about Jack though…Probably has something to do with being able to feel his charm through the pages. And that man has got charm for DAYS! (And I loved it!) Jack caught sight of his angel when they were just teenagers in their hometown, and his heart was attached at first sight. Now, though, they’re adults and she’s got an anger thrown his way. But that charm of his comes in handy! The way they viewed themselves broke my heart. They both felt like they weren’t good enough. While it hurt, I loved going on the journey with them. I especially loved going on Sarah’s journey with her. Learning about herself, and realizing not just how worthy she was, but how strong and independent she was! And as always, I loved spending time with the friend group! Plus, getting a proper introduction to the next series!

I won’t survive you.” • “You’re the only one that matters.” • “I don’t think there’d be a world where I wouldn’t recognize you.” • “It’s your soul that’s beautiful, and no one can ever take that away from you.” • “Take it, my beautiful, dirty angel. Take my c!ck like a good girl.” • “You’re worth everything.” • “Always you.” • “How could I ever ask for more, when I have everything I need with you?” • “Ready, baby, want to show the world you’re mine?”
The Brightest Spark ( La Hearts) Tropes 💜Forced Proximity 💜Unrequited Love 💜Bad Boy / Good Girl 💜Opposites attract/ opposite side of the tracks 💜forbidden love 💜 Well I really was just taken on the ride of my life and completely blown away in all the best ways. The Brightest Spark is an emotional rollercoaster that plays on all your emotions in ways you won’t even be expecting. You’ll experience everything from being utterly speechless, to yelling outta pure frustration. Your heart will feel like it’s beating so fast and then bam being crushed the next with tears streaming down your face , you’ll be glued to the edge of your seat anticipating what will happen from one second to the next . And you’ll find yourself rooting so freaking hard . I cannot exactly put it into words but something about Sarah and Jack just pulled me right in like a moth to a flame and before I knew it I was falling hook line and sinker in love . Both are so likable and reliable, so beautifully written and so unique . Both have so many different layers that I absolutely loved getting to know . Sarah and Jack have been a part of each others lives since they were teenagers. Two people who could not be more different. The rich girl and the poor boy . Jack has always been in love with Sarah but does not think he is good enough or has anything to offer her ( that is until circumstances bring these two together and then all bets are off .The Brightest Spark was and is everything I mean everything. It’s the type of love story that’s without a doubt going to hook you from the very first page until the very last . No really from page one I was devouring every single word to the point I actually lost track of time and when I looked up it was already 2 am in the morning . And man was I so exhausted, fighting to keep my eyes open , but of course there was no way I could stop . Angst , humor , witty banter , off the charts chemistry, love , passion, secrets , drama , heartbreaking and heartwarming moments, second chances , unexpected surprises, obstacles, family , friendships and so much more . Victoria never fails to exceed all my expectations. The Brightest Spark is a must read , unforgettable, unputdownable, chefs kiss 💜💜💜
Wow. Jack definitely makes you smile and blush. I loved Aiden and his story was something that you just couldn’t help but break with him. Jack on the other hand, he is just something else. Jack grew up knowing he probably would never get a happy ending like Aiden and that was heartbreaking. Reading his perspective of when he first met Sarah when she was in high school and seeing her through his lens was a game changer. I honestly wasn’t too keen on Sarah as a high school kid but only because I was too busy crying for Aiden. Haha. So, seeing her through Jack’s eyes definitely gave a better insight on her and ugh, that Christmas wish was everything Jack needed and it made me want to give him everything. That’s when you know a character is written well – when you find yourself wanting to give to this fictional character the whole world plus some. Some years later, Jack finds himself in a high-end club of sorts that offers a variety of things to their members. When he meets Sarah again, there’s no denying that Sarah has all of Jack whether she knows it or not. And what I love about Jack and Sarah is that the characters are not written as two annoying people who won’t admit their attraction to each other, but they’re written as two people who find it hard to believe that their reality could become something more that what they have been dealt with. Loving each other is just a bonus. Although Jack knows that the odds of Sarah seeing him past his mask are slim, it doesn’t stop him from watching over her as her secret guardian angel. And that is why you can’t help but to love Jack. His loves fiercely even if he is unsure if he is capable of having a happy ending. There is so much between Jack and Sarah that you don’t need an elaborate conflict to create interest. There is enough between the two to keep the story going. I’m just sad that I finished it so fast. If you loved Aiden’s story, you will no doubt love everything Jack has to offer.
THE STORY | For as long as Sarah has known him, Jack's always been a big flirt. A new girl on his arm every time she sees him, and to Sarah that is repulsive. Having his life turned around Jack now has a decent work and good life for him, but he's still the bad boy with a lip ring and tattoos. When Sarah finds herself joining a sexy photo shoot for an upcoming romance novel, she had no idea that Jack would be part of said photoshoot. And now that she's forced to be close with him, she wonders if there is more to Jack than just a bad boy flirting around...
READ IF YOU LIKE: ✩ opposite attract ✩ touch her and die ✩ unrequited love ✩ forced proximity ✩ bad boy / good girl ✩ forbidden love
MY REVIEW | Okay, this book was good, it was such an easy read. Both characters were nice, I loved how Jack was so dam protective of Sarah even before they got closer. I'm not the biggest fan of love at first sight, which might explain part of why I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, but that being said, it was still a very good one!
The forced proximity was absolutely chef's kiss and the tension between our character as well. I did enjoy that the friends were like a family and we got to see them often, I'm a sucker for that, it always makes me want to read all the series (yep, I started with the last book, nothing new here). It was easy to love Sarah who was such a genuine character and I'm so glad she stayed strong and fought for what she wanted cause her parents are awful. Luckily, Jack was there to make her feel like the star she should be!
I did wish that parts of the book were more show than tell, it felt like things were going fast at times and instead of seeing it happen, the character would just say what they were feeling with inner thoughts, not sure if I make sense haha, but yeah, it's just cause the book is quite short and I think I needed more meat on the bone to truly fall for the characters. Also, Sarah switched her mind pretty fast from the interactions we got, after years of hating. But seriously, loved the vibe, the spiiiiice, the set-up and now I'm freaking intrigued by the next series with that ending!!!
Thanks to LiterallyYoursPR for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
So…I tend to have a thing for fictional characters who’s names start with J. And let me tell you…I was NOT expecting Jack Szeto to take the torch & run a marathon! Holy cannoli does that man know how to burrow into your heart…and he’s sneaky about it!
Jack is the bad boy from the wrong side of town that seemed to be going nowhere. But when you’re best friends with someone like Adrian Callahan, you’re probably destined for more than you can imagine. He has a charisma about him that makes him irresistible to the women & an altruistic side that makes him enticing to the men. If there is a man to know at The Orchid…Jack is it! He’s the “Jack of all trades” after all.
When it comes to Jack, Sarah is still the siren his heart yearns for. She’s privileged and gorgeous, not to mention, out of his league on so many levels. But there’s a side to Sarah that yearns for more than her upbringing has afforded her. But what in the world could she ever desire that couldn’t be provided by the Winstead name & wealth.
As these two are thrown together on a photoshoot set over & over again, their banter is next level, but their sizzling tension becomes more and more palpable. And watching Jack be her unsung hero in the background so many times brought on the swoons like no other. His “touch her and unalive” mentality was captivating.
I’m so glad that Victoria “doesn’t know how to write short books”. Because Jack & Sarah definitely deserves so much more. Their love is just so real, & I’m so glad that they had friends to see it & encourage it.
I loved how in depth this story is written. I completely immersed myself into the world of The Orchid & every location ventured to. To say I read with all of my senses…it feels accurate. I’m a visual reader anyways, but the descriptive qualities to every location & scene…the visuals, the tastes, the smells, the tension in the air. I felt it all. The world Victoria has created is somewhere I feel I’ve been before and will continue to want to visit if I can’t inhabit it.
I’ve been here since the beginning and all I can say is Victoria’s books just keep getting better. This is definitely the shortest one but it was the perfect length for Jack and Sarah. Jack has been in love with Sarah since they were kids but she’s never given him the time of day. She thinks that he is just a playboy who doesn’t really care about anything. Jack needs to do a favor for someone at his job and through their friends is able to convince Sarah to do it. They end up having to do a photoshoot together and Sarah starts to see Jack through a new light.
This book doesn’t have a lot of angst but it’s perfect. Jack is so hopelessly in love with Sarah and it’s so funny. He doesn’t care that she doesn’t like him, he is going to protect her no matter what. There is a fantastic scene where he quite literally protects her from a nasty man and it’s amazing.
All of their friends kind of want them together and I loved it so much. Sarah would confide in them about how maybe she was wrong about Jack because now she sees how caring he is and everyone basically said what took you so long to see. They all know how in love with Sarah Jack is and want them to be happy.
The two of them just understood each other and it warmed my heart. They saw each other when no one else did. There is a little card that Jack wrote her some words of encouragement when they were young that she keeps with her wherever she goes. She had no idea it was him that wrote them and it was just so sweet.
I need a bonus chapter of Jack proposing. He wants to give Sarah the world and I just know that his proposal has to be really good.
The setup for the next series is very good and I’m excited for Stephens book.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Actual rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5 (rounded up because Jack and that mouth of his). Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
This was my introduction to Lum's writing, and based off this novel alone, I think she's made a new fan. The story of Jack and Sarah was a beautiful one, filled with well thought out, driven characters who know what they want, and know their goals.
Jack was such a loveable character, and I adore that it was a "he falls first (and hard)" scenario. He had set out from the start to get Sarah, and whilst it took time, he got there. And never once did he sacrifice his morals along the way, despite his need to have Sarah.
Sarah's journey was great to watch, from gaining the confidence in herself by helping Juliet, to watching her realise Jack isn't the man she thought he was, and coming to terms with the fact that not everyone is like her father. She sticks to her guns in wanting to break from her family and make a name for herself - something that I truly loved seeing.
The two of them together? Explosive. The spice was off the charts when they finally got to that point, made all that much hotter by the teasing of the photoshoot, and the somewhat forbidden nature of their relationship at The Orchid.
Now to skip back and read the previous books in the series, and to patiently wait for Stephen's story.
"Brightest Spark" by Victoria Lum is an enthralling romance novel that takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster from start to finish. This compelling story weaves together several classic romance tropes, including unrequited love, opposite sides of the tracks, enemies to lovers (from the female character's perspective), touch her and you'll regret it, forced proximity, bad boy with good girl, and forbidden love.
The novel revolves around the intense, unspoken feelings between the protagonists, making the journey from unrequited love to a passionate romance utterly riveting. Lum masterfully explores the complexities of social divides, portraying the challenges faced by characters from opposite sides of the tracks. The tension between them crackles with every encounter, especially as they navigate their transformation from enemies to lovers, giving readers a front-row seat to the electrifying chemistry between the two.
What sets "Brightest Spark" apart is Lum's skillful portrayal of the bad boy with a good girl, exploring the depths of their characters and the reasons behind their seemingly mismatched personalities. The forbidden love element adds a sense of urgency and danger, making the reader root for the couple while fearing the consequences of their relationship being discovered.
Victoria Lum's storytelling prowess shines brightly in this tale of love against all odds, making it a must-read for fans of passionate, heartwarming romances.
⭐️: 5 of 5 🌶️: 3 of 5 📖: 232 pages 💬: ''It’s your soul that’s beautiful, and no one can ever take that away from you”
Read it if you like: ✔️ Touch her you d!e ✔️ He falls first ✔️ Slow burn ✔️ Work place ✔️ Forced proximity ✔️ Bad boy with good girl
Blurb: ''Twelve years ago, Jack Szeto was the bad boy with the lip ring and panty-melting grins. I was the goodie-two-shoes with the fancy last name who never fell for his act. Now, he’s a devil in an expensive suit. When my best friend begged me to model in a sexy photoshoot for an upcoming romance novel from a bestselling author, I agreed without knowing Jack would be one of my partners in the sessions. Suddenly the intensity in his gaze threatens to blaze through my carefully erected barriers. I’m forced to wonder if his bad boy persona is all an act or if I’m going to be another woman falling victim to his charms. Or maybe he’s the brightest spark I’ve been waiting for all my life.''
🖤 This is the fourth book in the LA Hearts Series and it's the perfect end! It's the perfect bad boy with good girl, the tension, the old feelings, the wondering, the attraction, the slow burn and the undeniable feelings they have for each other. It's so good and hot to see them developing all those feelings that were hidden to develop to a steamy, real, soul mate type of relation. The spice in this book is ON and it's STEAMY, so be prepared haha I loved how they develop as individuals and couple, it's a really amazing book and now I need to skip back and read the previous books in the series!
⭐️ 💛 The Brightest Spark 💛⭐️ (Book 4 of the LA Hearts series) by Victoria Lum
5/5 ⭐️ 2/5 🌶️
⭐️ HOLY FINALE BATMAN! Ok this is going to be a spoiler free review so just bear with me because I have read every single book in this series and Victoria just keeps getting better and better.
💛 Jack is FANTASMIC. He gives me bad boy, he gives me touch her and 💀 vibes - he is EVERYTHING. He’s the one that pines for a girl he can not have - he’s just from the wrong side of the tracks trying to build a life worthy of the girl from the wealthiest family in their town. He builds himself so high and he truly is worth IT ALL. Plus - he’s got one dirty mouth on him - JS!
⭐️ Sara is just *CHEFS KISS*. I am a sucker for a redhead FMC and she gets added to my favorites list. She’s just a girl wishing for a boy to truly SEE her. Not for her money, not for her name, just HER. She doesn’t realize that the playboy that she despises because of her own family’s wrong doings is the one that has seen her all along.
💛 Truly - Victoria builds this world out - where you can physically see yourself in all of the places, you can smell all the smells and feel the snow on your face! This is a perfect holiday read! It’s a short holiday read that I implore you to add to your holiday TBR!
⭐️ Thank you Victoria for allowing me to read this. Thank you for giving me Parker, and putting Jack right up there in the touch her and 💀 book boyfriend list. I’m obsessed!
As Adrian’s best friend was introduced in the previous book, we know that Jack is a fun loving playboy with a lip ring. But we don’t know much more. Now we get to see the boy who had had a crush on a girl, now woman, for over a decade.
And now he is finally getting a chance to shoot his shot.
Sarah has always been the girl good and followed what her parents wanted. Now she is moving on with her life across the country and figuring out what she wants outside of her family’s wealth and status. And by doing so, her family is making her start over without her trust fund, which she has no problem with.
Sarah has always seen Jack as the playboy flirt, but now she is able to see him in a whole different way that changes her perspective. And I loved that for both of them!
When they finally get together, you truly know that these two are soulmates. I loved seeing Jack finally getting what he wanted and not letting anything stand in his way. This man is so swoony! And I really enjoyed Sarah getting out of her shell!
Those photoshoots were also SO HOT. And everything that followed. Jack and his dirty talking mouth 🥵
I just have to talk about "The Brightest Spark" and the delightful journey of Sarah and Jack. Their banter, oh my gosh, was an absolute treat. Having known them from the previous book, I was uncertain where their story might lead, but oh, did it surprise me in the best possible way!
What struck me most was the vivid imagery within the story. It felt like every page painted a crystal-clear picture of exactly where the characters were and what they were doing. Maybe it's because I live in New York, or perhaps the author is simply exceptional at painting scenes, but it made the reading experience immensely engaging and immersive.
The character development of Sarah and Jack was a joy to witness. Watching them open up and gradually fall head over heels for each other was both heartwarming and incredibly endearing. It's a classic narrative—boy falls first and falls hard, while the girl navigates her insecurities and undergoes significant personal growth.
But let's talk about Steven. His cameos throughout the story were intriguing, and that little tease at the end had me flipping out for more! It's safe to say that I'm most excited for his book; I'm eagerly anticipating delving deeper into his story.
Overall, "The Brightest Spark" is a beautifully crafted tale of romance, character growth, and the vibrant backdrop of New York City. Sarah and Jack's journey is a delight, and the book leaves you yearning for more, especially with the promise of further stories to come!
✨ Forced Proximity ✨ Forbidden ✨ Enemies to Lovers
Jake and Sarah’s story is just wonderful
Since twelve years ago Jake has been fascinated by Sarah. Whereas she didn’t even give him a glance. But while they don’t run in the same circles back in the day they couldn’t have known what to think of one another. For him, she is a beautiful angel, one he dreams of and admires from afar. For her, he is a good looking boy, one who knows his way with the ladies. And now, over a decade later, nothing seems to have changed. Jake is still the boy from the wrong side, one he hasn’t much to offer and didn’t deserve her. Sarah is confused by Jake. Attracted but she knows that kind of man. Burned by exes and feeling never enough, not wanted for herself just for her family. When they are forced to work together for a project, they finally get to know each other better and get glimpses behind their walls and outer exteriors. And are able to see each other for what they both really are. Failed by family or life. Dismissed by exes or the community. But so perfectly kind, caring or well meaning inside. Learning to look behind the facade. Take time to look closer and give a chance even when the circumstances aren’t optimal. A story with depths, emotions and a truly deserved happy end.
**ARC REVIEW** The Brighest Spark is book #3 in the LA Hearts series by Victoria Lum
I have been waiting to read this one after I finished The Harshest Hope and Victoria has written another new favourite!!
My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spicy rating: 🔥🔥
If you enjoy reading these tropes, you will love this book! 💖 Unrequited love 💖 Opposite sides of the tracks 💖 Enemies to lovers (from the female character’s perspective) 💖 Touch her and you’ll regret it 💖 Forced proximity 💖 Bad boy with good girl 💖 Forbidden 💖 Swoon and light angst and holidays!
My Thoughts I just love love love Jack and Sarah so much. Jack was so gone for her from when they were teenagers and it only developed further into adulthood.
He was always looking out for Sarah and that made me love him so much. We love a man who takes care of his girl.
Sarah doesn't have the best family life and I loved how brave she was to stand up to her father. It's not easy standing up to a parent.
I LOVED their chemistry once they got together! SO HOT!!!!!!!
I was OBSESSED with his nickname for her - SIREN!!!! BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Overall, I loved their love story and I am so excited for whatever is coming next from Victoria.
Thank you to Victoria for kindly sending me an arc to read and review. This review is my own honest opinion on the book.
This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last. In fact, I’m going to go back to the beginning of the series because I want to know how each of the couples mentioned ended up together. And I definitely can’t wait for the new series The Orchid. I literally only put this down to sleep. The spicy scenes were on point. It was a bit of a slow burn in the spicy scenes, but whoooo is it worth it. But the forefront of the story was the plot, which contributed to the slow burn. And I love spicy stories with a good plot!
❤️Tropes❤️ 💋enemies to lovers 💋forced proximity (hellooo romance cover photoshoot 🥵) 💋 forbidden love
Sarah and Jack have known each other since high school. She was the the preppy cheerleader from old money. He was the community college bad boy Casanova, first generation American, who barely graduated. They don’t belong together. And Sarah couldn’t hate him more.he reminds her of her philandering father who thinks money is the only important thing in his life. 12 years from when they first met, they get talked into doing a photoshoot for a romance author. When they are up close and personal with each other, will they be able to see past the sheilds they have up?
Thank you to Literally Yours, PR for the copy, all thoughts are my own.
Victoria Lum was a new author to me when I started the LA Hearts series but now, her words feel like home when I pick up her books! This entire series has been phenomenal, powerful, and stick-to-your-heart kind of reads.
From the moment we got a taste of Jack in the previous book, I knew I was going to like him. He’s the charismatic bad boy who has been trying to make himself worthy of a young woman who is his very opposite. I love how he has worked so hard to build himself from the ground up. It softens his edges knowing that he’s willing to put in the work where it counts.
Sarah has always been the quintessential good girl and Jack was not on her radar for being a guy she could find herself with. Everyone views her in a certain light because of her family’s money. I love how she is nearly blind to the fact that Jack could see her for so much more. Her desires are far beyond what wealth and privilege bring to the table.
The photoshoot, along with their banter, is such a provocative moment between these two. I can’t imagine the story having been written any other way. It’s absolute perfection for Jack and Sarah, bringing the best of each of them to the table.
This was my first read by this author and although I didn’t read the previous books in this serious, they have definitely been added to my TBR.
Jack and Sarah has known each other for a long time. When they first met Jack was considered the boy from the wrong side of the tracks with and Sarah is the spoiled rich girl.
Fast forward 12 years and Jack is now the entertainment manager for a vey upscale hotel group where Sarah’s family are members. It is inevitable that they will run into each other.
I think it was so sweet how Jack had feelings for Sarah all these years and never really moved on from that even Sarah rarely gave him the time of day. I also loved when Sarah finally starts Jack for the man that he really is instead of who she thought him to be.
The banter and the slow burn build between these two were just perfect. This was not just a boy meets girls HEA. Jack needs to deal with his feeling of self worth and Sarah has to face how to be more than just a socialite with a family name. I loved how they find their paths individually and together.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️? YES If you get anything from this series it’s a filthy nasty dirty talking man 🥵🥵
First off, I am madly in love with Jack. He’s the perfect blend of bad boy with a gentle soul. Victoria just knows how to write this beautiful combination of troubled past meets bright future. I absolutely love the glow ups of every single character she writes. The angst in this book OMMMGG. I could not stop reading. Touch her and die. I know we all love for this. Completely obsessed. Past and present. The way Jack makes Sarah feel worthy of her spot in this world. 🫶🏻🫶🏻 Jack proving he’s more than his bad boy persona just by BEING. I swooned so hard reading this one. Jack is top of my Victoria men currently. 💛💛 As also, some of my favorite highlights 👇🏻
💛 “As if I was the most important thing to him, the brightest spark in his universe. As if he’d rather hurt himself than see me cry.” 💛 “The touch-her-and-die madman.” 💛 ““Now is your time to shine, angel. And I’ll be on the sidelines watching you, cheering you on always.” 💛 “How did you recognize me? I’m not the only strawberry blonde in a mask here.” “You’re the only one that matters,”
Omg this book is fresh on my mind since I just finished it. There is something so special about this series, the LA Hearts characters just tug and pull at your heart strings. I’ve been waiting for Jacks story, and he did not disappoint.
I really loved getting to know Sarah’s character, aside from Emily’s BFF. Sarah has so much depth to her and I love that she saw a more meaningful life in her future aside from her privileged high society upbringing. Her and Jack were so meant for each other, he knew it instantly and was so patient with her. I loved the beginning when their story picks up when they were teenagers, and you get a flashback of the scene in the grocery store where Jack and Adrian worked at… (from The Harshest Hope) this is where Jack first meets Sarah.
Jack finally got his HEA, now we need to our guy Steven to find his love story!
Definitely check this book out, this series out, so sad it’s the finale but I’m HYPED we are headed to New York with Steven K. Victoria Lum knows how to write a beautiful, steamy and passionate love story with the most incredible characters!!
