I really enjoyed Artificial Intelligence! The author's use of pop culture to apply concepts is excellent (you had me at Blade Runner), making some fairly heady technical concepts much easier to swallow. It's the perfect spoonful of sugar to help the tech-talk go down. I would not consider myself an AI expert, although I am a bit technical (I can program my own Web pages & JavaScripts) and this book was not beyond me by any means. That said, prior to reading, I was definitely in the anti-AI camp, being a screenwriter and author, with a definite bias. Davis' approach to the material helped me soften that stance and opened my eyes to roads that could work, if proper steps are taken to keep AI and, more importantly, those using it under control. I still have plenty of doubts, but who doesn't? I think that readers on both sides of that fence would benefit from reading this book and its many-faceted approach to the very complex political and socio-economic issues in the future of artificial intelligence. Taking on this subject in such a sweeping way took real courage and Davis was not only successful, but conquered serious obstacles that could very easily make the subject matter incomprehensible! You don't have to be a tech-head to enjoy this fascinating read that not only gives an understanding of where artificial intelligence is headed, but the many challenges facing us all in the future! Highly recommended!

Many relevant topics raised but not treated in sufficient depth. The writing is too cutesy at times and is marred by errors. Despite the book's shortcomings, I would re commend it for readers who want to dip their toes in AI without making a huge intellectual investment. Author: use beta readers who represent your target audience
