I find "Parenting Kids With ADHD" to be a profoundly impactful and insightful book, addressing the challenges faced by parents raising children with ADHD. The author, Renato Flauzino, draws from his personal experiences as someone diagnosed with ADHD, providing an empathetic and compassionate perspective that immediately resonates with readers.

What sets this book apart is its holistic approach to parenting kids with ADHD. It goes beyond merely managing symptoms and delves deep into understanding the unique needs and strengths of children with ADHD. Flauzino emphasizes the importance of personalized approaches, recognizing that each child with ADHD is different and requires an individualized parenting style. This recognition of individuality and the acknowledgment that ADHD can be harnessed as a superpower rather than a limitation is a recurring theme throughout the book.

The content of the book is carefully structured, covering various aspects of raising a child with ADHD, from identifying the disorder and avoiding misdiagnosis to fostering effective communication, implementing consistent routines, and supporting emotional regulation. The author provides practical and actionable advice, empowering parents to create a nurturing environment in which their children can thrive.

The real-life examples and relatable anecdotes shared by Flauzino add authenticity to the book and make it highly relatable for parents who may feel isolated in their struggles. It offers comfort and reassurance that they are not alone in facing these challenges, and there is hope for positive change.

A standout quality of the book is how it emphasizes the significance of the parent-child bond. Flauzino stresses the importance of empathy and positive reinforcement, allowing parents to connect with their children on a deeper level and build a supportive relationship. This aspect is vital, as it creates a foundation for the child to feel listened to, understood, and accepted.

Moreover, the book not only benefits parents but also extends its relevance to educators and caregivers. It educates them about ADHD and encourages them to adopt a more empathetic and supportive approach to help children with ADHD succeed in various aspects of life.

Flauzino's approach to ADHD as an "attention abundance disorder" rather than an attention deficit is thought-provoking and reframes the way we perceive the condition. This perspective encourages parents to view their children's ADHD as an extraordinary aspect that can be positively channeled with discipline and willpower.

Furthermore, the author's commitment to neurodiversity education is commendable, as he aims to dispel misconceptions and break down barriers surrounding ADHD. Flauzino's unwavering efforts extend beyond the pages of his book through speaking engagements and workshops, providing practical tools to support neurodiverse individuals effectively.

In conclusion, "Parenting Kids With ADHD" is an essential read for parents, educators, and caregivers navigating the challenges of raising children with ADHD. It offers a wealth of knowledge, understanding, and practical strategies to help parents create a harmonious and fulfilling family life. Renato Flauzino's empathetic writing style and personal connection to the neurodiverse community make this book an enlightening and transformative resource for anyone seeking to better understand and support their ADHD child. By embracing the wisdom and guidance shared in this book, parents can foster a brighter future for both their child and themselves.

ADHD Can be a Superpower

As a parent of a child with ADHD, I was instantly drawn to Parenting Kids With ADHD. This book, written by someone who was diagnosed with ADHD as a child himself, resonated deeply with me and provided valuable insights that only someone with firsthand experience can offer.

Parenting a child with ADHD is challenging at times, it feels like I’m going in circles, unsure of how to effectively support ourchild's behavior. The author understands these struggles and addresses themwith empathy and understanding. Through personal anecdotes and practicaladvice, Flauzino shows us that ADHD can be a source of strength and advantage, rather than a limitation.

This book that has made a profound impact on my friend's parenting journey. When she told me about how it transformed her relationship with her son, I wanted to dive into it myself. And I was absolutely amazed by what this book had to offer. I was captivated by the author's insightful and compassionate approach. The book offers a wealth of knowledge and practical strategies that have the power to transform not only the way we parent kids with ADHD but also the dynamics within our homes.

It offers valuable tools for establishing routines, promoting effective communication, and fostering a nurturing environment where both parents and children can thrive.

The book is filled with real-life examples and relatable anecdotes that further enhance its authenticity and applicability. The practical advice provided helps parents foster a deeper understanding of their child's unique strengths and challenges, allowing them to tailor their parenting approach and create a supportive and nurturing environment.

Illuminating and insightful! A great read for any person who interacts with children!

It is wonderful to hear about this topic from the perspective of someone who has been through it, and can advocate for kids and others with ADHD.
Every educator or adult who deals with kids with ADHD would benefit from reading this book. It also helps provide a perspective of diversity of brain processing.

This book helped me better understand ADHD, as well as strategies to help ADHD children have better self-esteem and make incremental progress so that they can learn to be successful. The author stresses the importance of empathy–even more than love–for the child to feel listened to and understood. ADHD is really challenging for a kid to handle on his own-ADHD kids need adult support, someone they can trust to listen to them, understand them, and accept them for who they are. As we all do.

Here are a few excerpts I found particularly enlightening:

“Also, it is not that people with ADHD have an attention deficit; instead, regulating their attention is difficult. In fact, they have an abundance of attention. Frank Coppola says, "I prefer to distinguish ADD as attention abundance disorder. Everything is just so interesting… remarkably at the same time."

“That, my dear reader, is the beauty of ADHD. Your child is not "lacking ." Instead, they have something extra that needs to be controlled and refocused.”

Overall I really liked the book and greatly appreciated the information within it. I think I liked it a lot better than the previous ADHD book I read because this author actually has ADHD and could speak from a personal point of view. The only thing I really didn't care for was a. Of the chapter on medication (but that's really just a personal preference thing and I just skipped that chapter) and b. The chapter on discipline. I didn't care for the author's opinions (because despite what he says about studies I know that no evidence has been found to completely prove his point so it is an opinion) on physical discipline. Even CPS websites clearly state that spanking is not considered abuse (providing it's done under the guidelines they suggest). I think there's a right way and a wrong way and a right time and a wrong time. That being said, this book being about ADHD and these children having different brains than neurotypicals I agree that spanking is not the answer in these situations. But I didn't like the author's comments on physical discipline and thought they could have been left out. So I skipped the rest of that chapter as well.
But everything else in the book was very helpful. Unlike previous books I've read he actually had suggestions to offer for how to help children during meltdowns and certain behaviors. Things that can actually be applied in the situation. So that's why I'm getting it four stars because overall it was insightful.

As someone who doesn't have children but read this book for the sake of my little brother, I have to say this book is an absolute gem. It provided me with valuable insights and practical strategies that I could apply in my role as a sibling. The author's empathetic approach made it easy for me to understand the challenges my brother faces and how I can support him better. The book's positive perspective on ADHD, highlighting the unique strengths it brings, helped me appreciate my brother's abilities in a whole new light. The strategies shared were practical, and even as a non-parent, I found them to be effective in helping my brother self-regulate and focus. The additional resources and references were a bonus, giving me access to further information and support. So, if you're not a parent but want to understand and support a child with ADHD, I highly recommend this book. It's a valuable resource that extends beyond the realm of parenting.

Well-written with important information. The overriding message of this book from a man who grew up with and intimately understands ADHD is summed up in one word -"Love". "To love your ADHD child means to love their condition, accept that their brains work differently, and accept the extra work. It means to wave goodbye to the "perfect" little child and instead accept the child you have, someone who will be distracted, act out, have meltdowns at inappropriate times, and need much reassurance."
The message from the author for parents is to love unconditionally in every interaction and at every age. Chapters on discipline, medication, the home environment, the harm of excess sugars and carbs, the importance of exercise and more contain pertinent and practical information.

Wish I had this information when my son was young

My son was diagnosed as an adult. It was amazing how much I learned from this book. I was able to discover things I did that helped and things I did that made things more challenging. And most of all things that I can apply now because they are still relevant.
