A CIRCLE OF DEATH. The shapeshifter stalked the moonlit night, thirsting for blood, hungering for the flesh of new victims. Once a man, now a grotesque monster, he left behind him a bloody trail of mangled corpses. Before him lay only more death. A RING OF MADNESS. They were the believers, men and women sworn to exterminate the beast from the face of the earth. But all their strength could not prevent the hunters from becoming the hunted. For soon they were trapped in a terrifying game that led not to death-but to everlasting pain and eternal hell. Their only hope for survival was to succumb to the powers of the shapeshifter they had once sought to destroy.
It's been over 20 years since I've read this book. Twenty years and I still remember it. At the time when this book was current, I remember being impressed with the different twist on the shifter. If you can get your hands on a copy, it is worth the read. It will make a nice change from the shifter of today who has become more or less romanticized. I guarantee you won't be making any of these beings your book boyfriend (and yes, that's a thing now).
I loved The Hyde Effect. This was a good book, but it seemed to have too much going, and as someone else said, too many characters too follow. Seemed like the author didn’t have an ending for all of them, just a few-like he forgot about some of them and just decide to mention these characters at the end. Interesting enough but not crazy and suspenseful like the classic that came before it. It’s a 3 1/2 star for me.

Sequel to The Hyde Effect Shapes picks up about six months after the events in The anger Effect. It gives us a background story and more information on Lycanthropy. While I enjoyed the story it is not the suspense and terror fest The Hyde Effect was. A good but not great book in my opinion.
This was a book I had to read for book club, and I'll probably be keeping my thoughts to myself as I did not really enjoy this novel very much.
First off, the writer is incredibly verbose, more so than need be. And there are far too many characters to follow. You do eventually figure out that they all connect, but until you do, you are completely confused about how they fit into the story. He goes back and forth between referring to them by last name and by first name, so it's extremely difficult to tell who is who.
This book reminds me of what Anne Rice did with vampire lore throughout an entire series of novels, but with werewolves crammed into one novel. Too much information in one place. It was a nice idea but poorly executed. I don't recommend it.

I'd give it a 3.5 as I liked it better than The Hyde Effect (this being a sequel of sorts). The ending leaves the perfect opening for another novel but there doesn't seem to be one. More's the pity.
I found this book in a backstreet bookstore on a trip to the coast. I read this book cover to cover in one go and thought it was awesome. It takes you into a world of lycanthropy with a strange sense of reality. Absolutely fantastic must read!!
Not as good as The Hyde Effect ( which I loved) but still a good read. Interesting ideas are presented about shapeshifters and it goes by fast. Definitely worthwhile.
