The Maiden Voyage

Rate this book
Its 2089. The climate collapse is a fact. The situation on Earth is acute, and Sweden is one of the last stable countries in the world. No one dares to hope that the country will last long.
The young journalist Sameer Peshwara blames the climate catastrophe on the rich, so when American billionaire Jessica Stein wants to hire him to write a book about her space project, he cannot believe it. Why does she want one of her most avid critics to write a book about her plan: to build a spaceship for the purpose of colonizing another planet?
Sameer detests Stein Systems, but is tempted to abandon his principles and take the job that can save him and his family. At the same time, he knows that he should aim higher than that. Is it too late to try to save humanity? And does humanity even deserve to be saved?

ZERO-SPOILERs: Maiden voyage by Joel Arvidson weaves an apocalyptic scenario into a science fiction plot that is not quite as predictable as it initially seems. The protagonist is a youngish reporter who is offered a unique chance by a a female technocrat mogul that, although appearing to be the perfect antagonist, later on moves into more of a gray-zone in terms of character placement. The story begins at a leisurely pace and past the half-point the reader is treated to a very well-done unexpected twist. Towards the end, however, a couple of new revelations introduce a bit of unnecessary chaos into an otherwise very sensible plot. All in all, this deserves mention as a solid read that should be of interest for the casual reader.

Well this is an interesting read, although the plot is solid, the story telling is a bit sappy!
The author continually attempts to push the feelings of the protaganist, and it becomes a pain.
The story is told from a single persons POV, which I feel is just lazy.

Just made it to the end of the last chapter. Now I have to end this review as I felt the book ended.
Unless there is anoter in the series.. The End SUCK's

Sorry cant take a sci fi author seriously, who acts all educated and knowledgeable, going on a description about the Pyramids of Giza having been built by slaves (they werent built by slaves).
