If I Return was a short story (just over eighty pages) that was originally released as part of the 12 NA’s of Christmas. When I was in a pure panic over running out of SB books, I discovered this gem and all hope was restored. Fresh off my ride with our godly litigator, I dove right into the story of Hope and Jack.

Hope didn’t expect to break free from her seriousness for a fling, but when she meets Jack, that is exactly what she is about to do. It wasn’t supposed to be more than just a good time, especially knowing that Jack is leaving in a short period of time. But these two don’t want to waste on second of the time they have been given.

This was adorable. Pure sweetness. I loved it. I am a sucker for the way this story was told. I love when the books starts off pretty much towards the end, and you get to relive the moments. It builds up anticipation and with shorter reads, it really packs that much more of a punch for the reader. It instantly gives you a buildup within a few pages.

This is a no-brainer for romance readers. A must read story. I could have read about Jack and Hope for days and never tired of them!

Absolutely loved it! It was sweet, hot, and sexy all rolled into one. I swear Sawyer Bennett could rewrite the phone book and make it interesting. She never fails to get me to fall in love with her characters and the story. Totally bought their hot romance and fell in love with both characters! Well done. 5 stars

I love anything by Sawyer Bennett and in general, I don't get enough from novellas, but this one had great characters, was totally sexy and a walk-on-the-wild side h with an uber sweet Army helicopter pilot - heartwarming novella - highly recommended!

2.5 Christmas stars

This story is so sweet, it's practically giving me cavities just thinking about it. A predictable spoonful of sugar to delight fans of holiday themed romances. Set against a backdrop of pillowy snow and warm fireplace snuggling, two people meet at a wedding and after a few days of hot sex and conversation, they fall in love, only to be separated by forces bigger than their tinsel-wrapped romance. Will they ever find each other again?

So I recommend this read for anyone who loves a short, sweet read with lot's of hot spots in the mix, oa and a HEA.

A Hot Alpha Male Military Helicopter Pilot with a heart of gold...What else does a girl need for Christmas?

Have you ever wondered what might have happened if you stepped out of your comfort zone just once? Hope Camden is a serious student. She does not do flings. So why does Jack Freeman make her want to throw caution to the wind?

Hope literally stumbles into the arms of Jack, when she attempts to enter the beautiful Montgrove Inn in snowy North Carolina. She is there because her sister Audrey is standing up in a holiday wedding. As Hope and Jack look at each other sparks begin to fly, and they are both at a loss for words. As Jack walks away Hope notices his glorious backside and then is beside herself. Since when has she ever oogled anyone? When they both end up at the same wedding party Jack makes his move. He and Hope had a wonderful evening getting to know each other, but the night has to come to an end. Will Hope walk away or take a chance at having a hot and steamy fling with a sexy soldier?

Sawyer Bennett evokes a lot of emotion in this short novella. The chemistry between Jack and Hope is smokin hot. The mirror scene is sinfully erotic. This story is about more than a one night stand though. When a soldier is deployed overseas it is really hard on their family, friends, and loved ones. I speak from experience. When Hope read Jack's letter it hit me close to home and I could not hold back the tears. This novella read more like a full length novel, in that the story was not rushed. It was perfectly balanced and I loved the HEA.

If you like sexy alpha male military heros, and women who do not know that they are beautiful, you will really enjoy If I Return.

WOW!!! AMAZING!!! Sawyer Bennett does it again. She just has this way of pulling me in and holding me hostage. I freaking LOVE her characters. Now tell me what's not to love about Jack Freeman? Damn that man the sexy as sin Army helicopter pilot, oh how I LOVE a man in uniform. I just totally fell for Jack.

Hope Camden is a serious student. She's only ever been with one man, and she does not EVER do flings. But her sister Audrey tells Hope she needs to throw caution to the wind. Have a wild fling with a stranger.

When Hope and Jack first meet sparks fly, they have an instant connection. Later that day they find out they are in the same hotel for the same wedding. Let me tell you the chemistry between these two, HOT! HOT! HOT! When they hit the sheets there are sparks everywhere.

I freaking LOVED that mirror scene. If I return is HOT!!! I just couldn't get enough of these two. While Hope did want to make a long term relationship, Jack didn't. He didn't want to leave someone behind in case he didn't return home. Jack refuses to have Hope put her life on hold for him. So he leaves her a letter stating that they will meet up in one year on Christmas Eve in the exact hotel if he lives. WOW!!! That letter broke my heart. I was hoping for these two to get their HEA. And of course it being a Sawyer Bennett book they do.

My only complaint is I wanted more. If I Return is sweet and sexy. I LOVED this little novella. Another 5 star read from the FABULOUS Sawyer Bennett!!!

This was a great short read!! I loved it!! I wish that there was Jack's POV but other than that I really can’t complain about anything!! I received this ARC for an honest review and like all her other books this one was another winner! You have Hope who is a little of an introvert who goes away for a wedding with her sister around Christmas. There she meets Jack who we find out is a pilot for the army. Over the course of a week they spend time together and fall in love, but towards the end of the week Jack tells Hope he doesn’t want her to wait for him or write him or have any contact with him while he’s gone because he doesn’t want her to get her hopes up and something happen to him. Hope doesn’t listen and writes to him and its through those letters that Jack finds the comfort he needs to make it through his days. You’ll have to read the rest to find out what happens but it was an amazing short read. I can’t wait to read the next one!!

Its a wham, bam, thank you mam sort of story....but in a really, really good way. there is nothing missing from it...its quick and to the point. I guess I would say its honest as well and by that I mean the characters aren't messing around with their emotions for each other (you know the old does she/he really love me, but I'm not gonna ever say anything dilemma stories). I usually don't like these short novellas/stories because of reasons like that and I have a hard time "believing" the storyline. As far as this story goes, I had no problem with that. There was an instant connection...HOT and real. And to top it off...who doesn't like a Christmas "miracle" of sorts. It was sweet, erotic, HOT, loveable, and funny--all rolled into one.

This arc was provided by the author for an honest review.

Once again, Sawyer amazes me with her ability to open an emotion in me like no other has been able to do!

Jack and Hope's story was amazing... Christmas Miracle, Fate and perhaps eternal... Only You will know if you read this.

I did find my tear ducks being well used. Such a wonderful love story...

Well worth the couple of hours read. Absolutely amazing, I laughed, was shocked, of course I wouldn't be ME if I didn't cry...and the steamy love scenes oh and I love me some snow angels! hehe In fact right now there's so much snow outside my window that I just might build myself a snowman tomorrow!!!

I especially, appreciate Sawyer for including the Military hero in a lot of her stories! An amazing addition to the 12 NA's!!!

Totally deserved 5 stars...

I swallowed it in one take...duh?! it was a novella BUT still it was whole as a unit, complete story with the beginning, "meat" and the ending...

and the meat was full and juicy and tasteful....I enjoyed it very much...

it was a romance, it was love, it was sex, it was primal and sweet, it was simple and sincere...for such a short amount of pages this is worth as much as any full blooded novel!

So this one didn't work for me. I mean it's cute, but it's so hard to buy into this relationship. I should've known though. These short stories are so hard to buy into sometimes. The reality of them is so far fetched.

They meet for one night, have sex for a day or two, and then he leaves for a deployment, only for her to return 1 year later. The whole book was what happened in the past vs lets have them build a relationship 'together' in present tense. lol

I really like this novella. I read it twice in a row. It was a warm little holiday novella. The story starts in the present. This woman named Hope is waiting for this guy name Jack who she met at the same place a year ago.

“He had told me not to think about him. He told me not to wait. The only thing he offered me before he headed off to war was a vague promise that we could meet again on Christmas Eve. At the same exact spot where we first met... here at The Montgrove Inn.”

He had told me, “Hope... I’ll be here on Christmas Eve. And we can move forward. But only if I make it back. Only if I return.”

As Hope is waiting she recounts the story of how they met. The year before, Hope spent Christmas break with her sister Audrey. Audrey was the maid of honor in a friend’s wedding. The wedding was being held at the Montgrove Inn in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Hope grew in Florida and she did not get to experience snow so she was excited to see snow for Christmas. Hope ends up stumbling outside of the inn and almost falls but is caught by a handsome young man named Jack.

Hope starts out shy and introverted. She is not much for crowds or partying. She plans to spend her trip relaxing by the fire with a good book. Audrey thinks that Hope is too serious and wants her to let loose a little on trip and suggest that she find a guy and have a fling. Hope has only slept with one guy her ex boyfriend from college and they dated for almost a year before sleeping together. Her ex was just as studious as her. She described it as nice but nothing earth shattering so she was not eager to try with someone else that is until she meets Jack. Little did they know that it would be a life changing week for both of them.

Jack and Hope end up meeting again when she and her sister meet the wedding party for drinks. It is awkward at first for Hope to talk to Jack because she so shy doesn’t know what to say. They start talking for hours. Hope just turned 21 and Jack’s age was never specified but he was probably several years older. It turns out that is Jack is a pilot in that army. He has 18 months left his military service and then wants to go to college. Hope has several drinks and loosens up a bit and gains some liquid courage.

The night comes to a close and Hope is left with a choice. Neither of them is ready for the night to end. Jack does not expect anything or pressure Hope. Jack is hesitant and tells Hope that she does not seem like a one night stand type of girl. Hope decides to take her sisters advice and have a fling with Jack but it turns into more. Their chemistry was scorching and they were very sweet together.

“You didn’t take the plunge. How come?”

“He doesn’t answer but just drops down to his knees beside me. His hands come to my face, the leather from his gloves warming my skin. He looks so serious all of a sudden, my pulse starts pushing blood through my veins at Mach 3. “

“You’re just so beautiful,” he says reverently. “With your hair all splayed out in the snow... your cheeks and nose red from the cold. Fuck the snow angels... I just want to get to the kissing part.”

Jack was such a nice guy and it was a really touching story. Hope and Jack spend just a week together but really developed a deep connection and it was not just about the intimacy. They spent hours talking and really got to know each other. At the end of week they had to part ways and in a few weeks he was leaving for Afghanistan. He did not know if would return or not. Their time together was precious and fleeting.

"I don't want you waiting around for me. I might not come back and that's not fair to you."

Hope has no intention of moving on because all she wants is Jack. She waits for a year and holds out hope that she will see him again. I thought that was romantic. I was concerned and little worried that he would not make it back. I was getting nervous but everything worked out in the end.

I really enjoyed the epilogue. There were some nice surprises in it. I think it was the perfect way to end the story. I was very satisfied with the ending. It was a lovely little story.

A Christmas Miracle

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you took a chance on a one-night stand?

Have you ever wondered if there could be something more based on one simple interaction?

Have you ever wondered if putting your heart on the line was the right thing to do?

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stopped thinking about the "What-if's" and just went for it?

Find out what happens when Hope does just that!

How did I not know this book existed? Oh my goodness, this was just heartwarming and beautiful! I loved getting to see Hope and Jack take a chance on some Christmas magic. This was a perfect read for a cold night, snuggled up by the fire (now I just need a fireplace)!

I reviewed this at MustReadBooksOrDie with my friend Shelley!

Shel: This is the perfect holiday read. It's quick, sweet, and steamy. Our two characters, Jack and Hope, meet at a resort over the Christmas holiday. Neither of them are looking for love or romance but with Hope's sister pushing her to step outside of her comfort zone and Jack instantly attracted to Hope, they don't stand a chance. Court: I really do too! It was freaky because I am a wee little bit more ready for snow and winter and Christmas. I don't say that lightly because I am definitely a warm weather loving girl...but I really got into the snow and the getting toasty by the fire and making snow and angels....sigh!

Shel: Hope went on this trip with her sister to have some down time away from her studies and to have a chance to frolick in the snow. She's pretty adamant against her sister's demands to have a fling while there and doesn't think there's a snowball's chance in hell it will happen. When she pits herself against her sister, she feels that she always measures up short. Unwilling to totally piss her sister off on the first night there, she agrees to go downstairs for cocktail hour and this is when her life changes....Jack, an Army pilot, meets here there and they end up spending that evening talking and getting to know each other. He offers to escort her to her room after a night of conversation and drinks and things heat up...fast.

Court: Sawyer Bennett definitely never lets us down on the feels and the steam. And I am crazy impressed how much of both are in this short novella...just crazy! I really was amazed at how much I got involved in their story, especially because of its length. Hope has some self esteem issues to get on board with, which was interesting and Jack is right there to try to get this butterfly to spread her wings. It was beautiful.

Shel: I love these two together and I adore this story. If only she could stretch their story into a full length novel. Sigh. Obviously by the ending, we can see why it would be hard to backtrack and fill in their story but I, as usual, wanted to read more about these two. I blame Sawyer Bennett and her addictive characters and storylines. This is a fantastic holiday read...really for all Sawyer Bennett fans, it's a must read...and for those who haven't read her yet, this is a great introduction to her writing! Court: Right! I think not much past the 30% mark I was like "OK...I really wish this wasn't a novella..." We're needy..we know..but that is definitely the only downfall to novella's and a good thing for fantastic authors is how much I want to know MORE about their characters! I loved these two...sexy times were OTT sexy...and the feels were genuine and a great part of the story.

Sawyer Bennett has touched my heart with her words, yet again. This novella is short, but packed full of beauty and emotion. I immediately related to Hope and found myself wishing I could find a Jack of my own. This is much more than a Christmas story. It will warm your heart and keep you smiling, regardless of the time of year.

Jack Freeman. Sigh. Who can resist a man who is an Army helicopter pilot, thoughtful, sweet, AND hot in the bedroom? Not this girl! Hope Camden reminded me so much of myself (not necessarily a good thing Lol) so I felt like I understood her. She is introverted, hard-working, would rather read than go out, and feels uncomfortable in social situations. Yep, that's me!

Hope's sister, Audrey, is the Maid of Honor in a wedding and invited her to stay the week with her at The Montgrove Inn. Hope agrees thinking that she'll be able to spend the week relaxing. Everything changes after she meets Jack though. Audrey pushes Hope to find her inner wild child and to have a fling with him. Hope shuts the idea down, but quickly finds out that Jack brings out a new side of her personality. She tells herself over and over that it's nothing more than a Christmas hook up, but she can't help the feelings that start to grow.

But I can’t help the fact that I’m starting to develop feelings for Jack. It has nothing to do with the multiple orgasms he’s given me. It has to do with the fact that he taught me how to make snow angels, he called me beautiful, and he talked with me for hours last night because he was truly interested in me.
If I Return (Sawyer Bennett)

Let's face it... most novellas almost have to be a form of "insta-love" or there's a lot of build-up and a quick HEA. One of the things I loved about this one was how they both had feelings, but also reminded themselves it had only been a few days. The majority of the story takes place over about a week, but the whole novella covers over a year. This made the feelings and ending more realistic for me.

I had sort of wistful (occasionally interrupted by hot and bothered) feelings while reading it. The descriptions of The Montgrove Inn painted such a vivid picture in my mind that it made me wish I were there. Sawyer Bennett really has a way with putting the reader into the moment and location without dragging out the descriptions. Don't act like you've never skimmed descriptions when they get too wordy! This is a very quick read and will leave you smiling! I definitely recommend this one!

5 stars - Did I just give a novella 5 stars? Damn straight! Jack deserves it.

I have never read a Sawyer Bennett book that wasn't hot and sexy. This one is no different. Sawyer has writing swoon down! What makes the difference for this book is Jack.

I love all the guys that Sawyer has thought up - I do think her military ones have touched me this most, though. Jack is a helicopter pilot in the army. Perhaps it's the military aspects of his personality, but I just love him. Hope is expecting a fling. It's totally not her character but she throughs caution to the wind and went for it - go her! But she wasn't expecting the tender care that Jack treats her with. He is totally into the sex but he just as happy spending time with her for the time they have. His concern for what she wants to do and how he wants to pamper her really touched me. I so can't explain this as much as I want without giving away something that happens during a bath. Since I'm not willing to say, you will just have to believe me - or read it yourself. Tender. Jack is tender.

Something that I don't tend to see done well in novellas but Sawyer Bennett did awesome with was the character development. Longer books tend to give us tons of details and experiences to let us get to know characters. Novellas often jump around or summarize to make up for length. It doesn't always allow for strong characters and connections and often I am not satisfied with them So not the case here. The parts that needed lots of time and detail, got it. The parts that could be summarized were done well. I didn't feel like I missed stuff. I really liked how time was handled. There are two full years of time that spans 3 Christmas eves but it's still a novella. Makes for a sexy fast read. It's perfect.

I loved the ending so much. The epilogue is just a little different - can't really say how - and I really, really loved it. I had one idea of what was coming and then a little twist made it just different enough that I was squealing.

I'm just in the mood for the holiday books and if you are too, then don't miss this one. The New Adult part is sexy. Not typical NA, it's a must read for Sawyer Bennett fans and fans of all Christmas books.

I'm a pathetic mess of a woman who has pined after a man that I haven't even spoke to in a year. A man who captured my heart and then slowly enslaved it. And then he left me.

Hope was a studious, serious girl who followed the rules and was focused on her future. She goes on a winter vacation to the Blue Ridge Mountains with her sister for a wedding. She just plans on relaxing and enjoying the snow. But that all changes when she meets Jack. And with the encouragement of her carefree sister, Hope uncharacteristically begins a fling. But it has a predetermined timeline.

I absolutely loved Jack! He was genuinely sweet, sexy, and affectionate. But he was also protective and did not want to hurt Hope. And she was cute, loving and real. They were so likable and had such hot chemistry. I loved their interactions and the fact that they actually shared and talked and it was not all about the steamy sex. It was bittersweet. My heart broke for them as their time was coming to a close. And there were circumstances that were beyond their control. Jack was in the Army and he had to follow orders.

"I don't want you waiting around for me. I might not come back and that's not fair to you."

I read this whole novella holding my breath. It started in present time and then told their story in flashbacks. So even though I loved their sweet past story, I was dying to get back to present to figure out what was going to happen.

Will Jack return? Was it just a vacation fling or was it really something more?

It was a short, engaging, and enjoyable holiday read with romance and heart. It had humor, tension, sadness, and romance.

Thanks to Sawyer Bennett for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review.

A wonderful Christmas time novella by Sawyer Bennett (one of my favorite authors). This one is a cute, heartwarming (and some steam thrown in) story about a guy and a girl that meet at a beautiful mountain inn to attend a wedding at which the girl's sister is maid of honor. As she enters the inn to check in she stumbles and is rescued by a handsome, alpha guy and its instant attraction.

The girl has always been kind of a wallflower, especially next to her beautiful older, party girl sister. She has her life goals set out in front of her and she'd rather sit by the fire reading a book than get drunk and party. Her sister eggs her on to find the guy that helped her and get out of her shell. She's reticent to do that until she meets him at a pre-wedding cocktail party that her sister drags her to. He's there, she's there and she lets go. Now its insta-lust. He's only the second guy she's ever been with but believe me she learns a lot.

Turns out he's a helicopter pilot who's leaving after the wedding to go to Afghanistan for a year. He wants no commitments when he's gone. He feels its not fair to the one's waiting and also having to worry about somebody at home will take his mind off what he needs to do to serve (and survive) while in a war zone.

They have a beautiful week but then he's gone. The only commitment he makes is that if he makes it through his tour he will meet her next Christmas eve, same time, same place. If I say anything more I'll spoil the story. But it was great, sad, heartwarming and beautiful. I loved it.

I was so excited to hear there was going to be the 12 NA's of Christmas. It brings together 2 of my most favorite things. I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of Sawyer Bennett's novella. All I can say is I hope the other ones are this good! If I Return was amazing! Hope is you introverted character that would love to sit in front of a fire and read a good book for the week. Her sister Audrey pesters her into stepping out of her box and it changes her life. She meets Jack, the super hot Army helicopter pilot. The sparks fly instantly. From the first time she fell into his arms. Things are hot and heavy quickly but, the question looms. What happens after this week? Is there relationship destined to be a Christmas fling?

Jack is a great guy. He is very upfront with Hope on how he feels. He opens up to her. There is no hiding what he wants. Unfortunately he is heading off to war and doesn't want to hold her back. He doesn't want her to hold back because he might not make it back. If he returns he will meet her at the same hotel they met at on Christmas Eve. Will he return?

I loved this novella and read it in one sitting. Mostly because I couldn't put it down. I was so enthralled by the story and he characters. Christmas also makes it more romantic and fun. Even with the fun attitude there was still a sense of seriousness. That it might be the last time they ever see each other and they want to savor that time together. So perfect!! I'm kind of hoping we got to see more of these two.

Hope let her sister, Audrey, talk her into attending a week long wedding event. Why she agreed, she has no idea. Audrey thinks that Hope needs to live a little and be wild. Maybe even have a vacation fling. But Hope is perfectly content hiding in her hotel room with a good book, even though on some level she knows her sister is right. When she literally stumbles into sexy army helicopter pilot Jack, she thinks maybe she should go for that fling after all.

Staying at the same hotel to attend their mutual friends' wedding, they spend the next few days learning about each other's lives and bodies. It's clear that they already care deeply for one another, but Jack's redeployment looms over them like an ugly black cloud. When Jack sets off back to war, Hope fears that she will never see or hear from him again?

This was such a sweet holiday read filled with the spice that I love from Sawyer Bennett. Hope is a bit of an introvert, much like myself, and I can totally relate to the comfort she finds in playing it safe. She can't help but be drawn to Jack and the few days they spend together are filled with tenderness and passion. I was surprised with Jack and how he acted after their time together and I was on the edge of my seat waiting to see if they would meet again. Definitely a great holiday story!

This is the first of Sawyer Bennett's books that I have read, though I have I believe three on my kindle, and I absolutely loved it.
I really liked her style of writing. She has a way of making it sound like how people ar every day. Sometimes when reading books in the spirit of proper grammer you'll lose some of the every day speak, but with this book I felt that wasn't lost. She also did amazing with making the characters come across as real people. With the awkward, they came across awkward. With the wild and care free, they really came across care free. The situations came across realistic too. I loved how the story was told too. I want to say more, but I don't want to at the same time because how the story unfolds really makes it. It was great.
I really liked the characters in If I Return. Jack is amazing! He really was a great guy and I fell for the good guy, not the bad boy. Hope was pretty awesome too. She was the shy, quiet sibling in her family. She was content with her life only to find out that she was missing something.
This really was a sweet story. One that will make you fall in love with a good guy, not a bad boy and I love when an author can make that happen. I also love when an author throws in a military man. So this one hit a lot of great characteristics. Plus the Christmas theme was subtle. It was apart of the story, but wasn't necessarily the whole story. It was great and a Christmas read I recommend to all.

I haven’t exactly been in the holiday spirit so when I saw that Sawyer Bennett was doing a Christmas themed novella for the 12 NA’s of Christmas I was game to give it a try. As a big fan of Bennett’s Off books (Off Sides, Off Limits, Off the Record, Off Course, Off Chance) I had some fairly high expectations going into If I Return. This charming and sweet romance exceeded those expectations and put a smile on my face.

Good girl Hope has dedicated herself to her studies. When she tags along with her big sister to a wedding in North Carolina, she’s looking for nothing more than a few minutes of quiet time. When she literally stumbles into the sturdy arms of handsome soldier Jack, the two have instant chemistry. Unfortunately the two are faced with a ticking clock. Jack’s shipping out to Afghanistan in two weeks. Can they just live in the moment or will either one be brave enough to hope for a future?

If I Return is a super solid novella. In only 83 pages Bennett creates two well-shaped leads that I fell for quickly. There is just the right smidge of angst leading into a cheer inducing HEA. Do yourself a favor and pick this up. You can’t beat the price ($2.99) and the warm fuzzies you’ll get in return.

My favorite quote: "My brain says to enjoy it while it lasts, because there is no future for Jack and me. My heart? Well... it tells my brain to shut the fuck up."

I am a huge fan of Sawyer Bennett's and true to form, she delivers a fantastic story in the Christmas novella, If I Return. As with all her Off Series, she has created characters that you immediately connect with and love, and a super hot male lead in Jack Freeman to add to your list of book boyfriends to remember. I liked Hope a lot also and enjoyed seeing her character come out of her shell as the story developed. Not only is the romance really hot, the story itself is wonderfully touching. I love stories that involve military guys, and this one provides you with a hot helicopter pilot that you will be rooting for the entire time. Another thing that I really loved in this book is the setting of Asheville North Carolina. I have family from this area so it felt like it enabled me to connect with the story on a deeper level. Sawyer Bennett paints a beautiful picture of the area with her words also, so if you've never been, you'll feel like you have. There are some really touching scenes and some super steamy ones, and there is also a really great epilogue also, which is something I really enjoy in a book. If I Return is a short story that is full of substance and something that is well worth taking the time to read.
