More please!!

I was completely hooked once I read the first book in this series (Venomous), the second was a bit of a hit or miss for me but books 3 and 4 have just left me craving more. I LOVE how this author weaves worlds into existence and is always mindful of making her heroines part of the BIPOC community. The spicy scenes are SPICY and the story is just phenomenal. Five stars from me and if she ever needs ARC readers I am the first one at the door. Just wonderful 🩷

Legion by Penelope Fletcher
Released September 8th 2024

Overall ⭐⭐⭐⭐💫
Spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶

***Caution Mild Spoiler Warning***
Legion is book 4 in the Alien Warrior series by P. Fletcher and although it is a standalone the backstory that carries throughout the series is too amazing not to read at least the previous books. Reading them will introduce you to the universe, variety of aliens and politics so it won't be confusing. If you're already a Penelope Fletcher fan Sadie, the main character here, is present in BHYR, book 3, but the author does an excellent job of giving a reminder on what has already happened. No need to do a reread if you've previously read the others.

I freakin love this sci-fi romance series so dang much. It's dirty, dark, funny, endearing, beautifully written (which is sometimes rare in this genre), packed with character development and new alien worlds. This is a why choose, reverse harem love story that uses the fated mates, age gap and arranged marriage tropes with an extreme science fiction bend.

If you're new to sci-fi romance I recommend this series as an excellent one to start with. The aliens P. Fletcher has imagined are both humanoid and not. I enjoyed returning to all the planets but especially Rok for He, Shadows the Sun (lizardman, a retired veteran and renowned warrior). I've always pictured Aztekan males looking like a cross between General Grievous from Star Wars and the Night King from Game of Thrones. The Verak I picture as Thundercats with tiny horns. All that said, Fletcher's creativity in creating Legion is her best work yet. Right or wrong I'm imagining him as Cthulhu. Which, as a cosmic horror reader, I had the most fun with. I never imagined that I would fall in love with a character the way I have with Legion. From the point Legion started learning Sadie's language I was a goner. I couldn't put it down. 'Cthulhu the gentleman' was the best thing ever and the journey that Sadie goes on to find healing after her rape and abuse at the hands of the Aztekan Horde might be my favorite of the whole series. That's really saying something too because I absolutely inhaled the first two books. All the women in this series go on outrageous journeys physically and emotionally but Sadie is the boss b!tch of them all to me because of her pragmatic attitude and struggle to heal after reliving her worst nightmares.

***Trigger Warning: violence, sexual situations with multiple partners and rape.***

Bravo Penelope Fletcher. This was a phenomenal book. I cannot wait to hear what comes next AND I would love an opportunity to buy physical copies. If you ever sell signed special editions I'm first in line. Thanks for sharing your gift of writing with us.

Truly captivating read, definitive 5/5 stars

Well done Penelope Fletcher, you have done it again!! I kept searching periodically for new books from this author and was over the moon when I saw dhe had released a new book! Firstly, the book cover gorgeous . I loved this one even more than Luman's story (I didn't think that would could even be possible). It was such a stunning read....I cried like a baby towards then end. I loved the descriptions of Homeworld and each character. Sadie was beautiful, loyal and so relatable. Her back story was heart wrenching but needed to be told. Don't get me started on each of her mates.....swooooooon...I cannot wait for the next book.

WOC FMC Space Opera

As usual, her writing is incredible. I loved seeing Sadie’s transformation from traumatized survivor to a force to be reckoned with. So many scenes had me grinning from ear to ear. This was a fantastic way to tie a nice bow on one of the most epic sci fi romance series I’ve read. The most interesting RH (made me think of Pokémon-gotta catch ‘em all!). And I loved that grimh (sp?) got his hea. Would love to read a novella or side story about Seren. Thanks for also continuing to include WOC. In over 300 sci fi romance books I’ve shelved, I’ve not read about a single Korean. Please keep the diversity coming!

loved it

Girl I can’t even! This book was so good thought I wish it would have been just a teeny bit longer to see her happy ever after. Ive read venomous multiple times and just knew I would love this book. I really liked the aspect of different species for mates. I can’t wait to read more books in this series. I think going back to the beginning and having another ra book would be great. Even though I’ve absolutely loved the other books the first one still holds a special place in my heart. Their culture is so interesting and having 2 or 3 mate that change just for you is amazing and so romantic.

Amazing!!

I adore this whole series and this one did not disappoint at all. Venom will always be the best one but this one had me in my feels. I do wish more time could have been spent with Gryhm after he agreed to stay. I’m loving legion soooo much! Ugh! I really hope there will be another. Me thinks it will be about the Aeyr. They certainly set it up cleanly. Then I’ll get more legion and Sadie lol

Good addition to the series. I struggled the beginning chapters of this book. I picked it up and down several times. I found the portrayal of Sadie spot on to her experience. I always struggled with how easily the woman in the previous book seem to get over their experiences with the Horde warriors. The physical relationship between Sadie and Legion was a little esoteric for me. The journey of Sadie through the worlds we have visited in previous books was a new insight into their world. I will say the pick of a mate per planet with the addition of the villainous antagonist was a lot of moving parts. All things considered it was a good read and I would enjoy another addition to the series.

PF always delivers something a lil' different!

Ok so this is not a tale for those who are narrow minded, bigoted, sci-fi haters or just not very bright. Saying that, please read the 3 previous books prior to this one as it leads to a culmination of sorts. The FMC was a little squirrelly at first, understandably, and it seemed rushed in the first 100. But there was a lot of info to present. I liked it and hope we get a book 4...But Venomous is still my Favorite😉

Legion

How exciting!!!! I got lost in another Fletcher story and loved every single word. Even the words I didn't know, I loved them.
I adore this story because of how complicated and lovely Legion is, how he brought such an interesting group of mates together, and how perfect they all seem together.
The action was gripping. The emotions I felt ranged from the extremes of high and low. Love this so much

Loved it!

It's been a while since a new book in this series was published but it did not disappoint. I love Ms. Fletcher's writing style and the consistency in characters across her books. She is great at World building, her characters are witty and I always find myself sucked in by the story. Don't make me wait too long for the next story.

I love this series!

I have been following you since venomous was first released. I stalked your then website looking for updates. My only complaint is that there is such a long wait time for each book, but it’s almost worth it with the world building. You’re a great author Penelope. Thank you for sharing your worlds with us.

Love story as Hero Journey.

A hero journey Joseph Campbell would recognize. Love and family, trials and triumphs, failures and renewal. Wonderful characters and a great story. Thank you for this experience.

wow

I got an email that said, “Penelope Fletcher had a new book out”. I gasped, and zoomed inwards to see it was in Alien Warrior series. I instantly one-clicked!!

Only in the last week, I did my regular snoop of sites linked to Penelope. I was depressed that there was no news.

This story was just so much more than I anticipated. There were laughs, complete surprises and tears. It was awesome

Absolutely Phenomenal

Absolutely blown away. Phenomenal writing and world building. A definite must read. Literally the only complaint I have is:
***potential spoilers******
That we didn’t get to be privy to the bedroom bits at the end of the book. They are glossed over and mentioned in retrospect which was a little disappointing for me.

I Really Looked Forward to This One

But the first third of it disappointed. The voice of Sadie, the narrator and main character, didn't sync with me. There was a lot of backstory to explain in the setup of Sadie's story, and only a slight mention of it in the previous trajectory of the series. Dare I say, her life with Legion was incomprehensible.

In the previous books, I praised Penelope Fletcher for her innovative imagination that created three completely different species with their planets (flora and fauna) and societies. With Legion, it appeared as if Penelope had settled for an overused alien typecast. Even though the character had sycophants, of a kind. [I don't want to give away the complete details, in case you decide to read the book and find it to be vastly engaging from the get-go; but I do understand now why she had difficulty describing Homeworld and its inhabitants.]

The story finally began to be more interesting to me when Sadie had to leave Homeworld to go on a quest for Legion. As she travels to the three other planets from the series, she attracts attention from three suitors, one from each world, who fill in hers and Legion's need for family, connection and society. Because society, I now realize, was the missing link in the discrepancy around Homeworld. Sadie and Legion were unable to create society due to the nature of his minions.

Now, I do need to mention the true brilliant character developed in the story is actually the villain - Prime. She is an early adaptation of Legion that got lost and became her own entity. This character, you will see, is the epitome of depraved, disgusting and dangerous narcissism. Penelope wrote magnificently when developing this character.

I would have to say the middle to last third of the book kept me engaged enough to stay reading the book. This section helped me to understand the front part of the book. The last ten chapters, though, were the most entertaining. I award this book a 4-star, even if parts of it only deserve a 3, because of its inclusion in the overall series.

I've read and loved all the previous books of this series (weird because I don't actually like spice in books) but between the world building and characters I really can't help but enjoy this series immensely, it has so much more to it than most sci fi romance/erotica.

This one is my new favourite. I loved Venomous, enjoyed Thunderclaw (can't help but adore Beowyn, we all know we like him best), I was bit iffy on Bhyr but still enjoyed it but this one was definitely the best in my opinion.

Sadie, the FL, has an actual normal, none Stockholm syndrome like, response to the trauma unlike the female characters that annoyed me so much in Bhyr. They should have made those guys suffer more for what they did.
Her character was so well written with all her issues and flaws and strengths. I was really happy reading about her overcoming her trauma, slowly but surely throughout the book. Got a real kick of her sticking up for herself and her men and telling Indira off at the end, go her!

I adore Legion too, his personality is my ideal. Caring and careful of Sadie's trauma, soft but strong when need be, not demanding and Alpha male bossy at inappropriate times. He is by far my favourite character out of them all (Don't tell Beowyn).

I also really loved Shadow and Fynkyn, such sweethearts. Grhym I didn't really get attached to and might have still held a bit of resistance to him because of the last book.

Now, back to waiting for more books.

This wondrous book

I hate starting a positive review with a negative review of another book but I hated Bhyr. I hated the Horde. I loathed Indira by the end. I couldn't help but think of the women who died or didn't want to be with their abusers. What happened to the ones who were strong enough to leave? They just seemed forgotten. Fletcher did a great job in Venomous of threading the needle of cultural relativism (aliens are going to alien) but I wanted to burn the Horde to the ground.

In Legion we get Sadie's story, a survivor of the Horde, and it is beautiful and powerful and full of love. She is strong without being hard and so incredibly brave and loving. And Legion, it's weird to consider him sweet but, he is so caring, all the members of Sadie's harem, Shadow and Fyn are just brave and loving perfection. As always the sci-fi world building is impeccable, the journey was a little Hobbitesque. In a good way. Sadie and her family did what needed to be done and said what needed to be said. I may have reread the ending at least 20 times.

Now let me go tend my garden.

Brutal and Compelling

The highest highs and lowest lows and scorching spice with the heart wrenching action and triumphs. I loved that it touched on so many of the characters personal histories and insecurities. I loved all the characters and vast differences. It was also lovely to see the clash of cultures and personalities. Sadie tried so hard, her passion and despair. I think her and Sine would get along. I can't get enough of this universe!

Prime as a big bad was amazing. Even the little insight into mind. It was the perfect amount. I do worry about the numbers of the death she left behind her, especially the small amount of the horde behind. Whew, what a ride!

Thank you for writing! 👌🏾🖤

Felt rushed but overall a great read

I've read all the alien warrior books and am *embarrassingly* obsessed with this series. The world building has been such a pallet cleanse from all the other run of the mill paranormal romance. This book included great character development, awesome nonhuman romance (not just boring bipedal human like aliens), world building, angst and spice that this author so well encapsulates in her writing. My only complaint is that it felt a bit rushed towards the end but this could be interpreted as high speed and action packed! I can't wait for the future work Penelope has to offer.

I LOVE this series. I put off reading this since its release because I knew I’d love it & then have to wait a while if there was another one but these are definitely worth the wait for me. The ending is giving possibility of another book??? Water people possibly?? I love. Please give.

Loved all the characters this time. Darkness with funny and romantic moments. Most of the trauma happens before the book & it was kinda nice to see how caring & thoughtful they were regarding her trauma. She made some dumb choices but honestly I’d probably do the same with some of them lmao.

Absolutely criminal that these aren’t more popular.

Brilliant

This Author, I love and hate. I love the absolutely unhinged, but all encompassing story telling that she spins for is lucky few. Do I like that she has no social media update about new books in the works, no absolutely not. Was I broken and made again by this newest book in the series yes. And I loved it just for this reason... ooooh I also got the Audioble version of this series, don't like the AI voice but I love to have these favorite series in another form to enjoy.... please keep this captivating series going with more books, soon hopefully...

Frustrating but good

Reading this series is frequently frustrating. I'm sure the writer sees amazing characters and settings in her head, but it isn't making it onto the page. Often a description of characters or settings comes during or after conversations or actions which disrupts the flow of the story. It is like listening to a conversation in the dark then having the light turned on halfway through. There were fewer missing words in sentences than were in the prior books. The overall story was entertaining. The spice was negligible.
