Full Throttle #2

On the Edge

Rate this book
Surely this can’t be the only solution to overhaul my tarnished rep – faking a romance with the good girl intern?

But that’s what my agent says. Just a few months of taming my ways—of shedding Formula 1’s party boy image—will land me a lifetime branding deal. One I desperately need.

The key condition?

Pretend I’m madly in love with my new girlfriend. The quiet wallflower who I figured wouldn’t put me in my place. Yeah. This girl is anything but that.

Maddix Hart is defiant and intelligent. Loyal and real. Determined and sexy. And damn it to hell, before I know it, she’s in my head, in our bed . . . and if I’m not careful, she’ll see there’s more to me than the man I show the public. She’ll discover the man I hide from the world. The one who struggles to live up to the unrealistic expectations that should never have been mine.

All I have to do is make sure no one sees the truth behind our farce.

But instead, I let my heart get involved. I begin to believe the lie. And now with everything on the line—the deal, a championship, us—am I willing to risk it all to make her see what the rest of the world believes? That we belong together.

A spicy, only-one-bed Formula 1 romance.

"What are you willing to sacrifice to get to the next step?"

Cruz Navarro is Formula 1 royalty.
He has a legacy to uphold. A family to impress.
While he has been doing that on the track, it is never enough.
And the parties and alcohol don't help either.
So when the only solution to reform his image is to settle down, at least for the public.
But Cruz Navarro will be doing so on his terms.
And his terms is the wallflower intern Maddix Hart.
But is he signing up for more than he bargained for?

"If you're going to sell it, we have to sell it."

Maddix Hart wants to work in publishing.
She wants to move to New York. She wants to make her mark.
Interning for a global company like Genesee Capital is her foot in the door.
She just didn't expect this job to come with the condition of fake-dating Formula 1's resident playboy.
It doesn't help that he's staring at her like… that.
But it's a show. It's for the cameras.
Right?

"If we're going to fake it, is it so bad if we enjoy it while we do?"

I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review.

"Like with all things knitted, they have the ability to unravel."

For all of my Formula 1 girlies!!! Listen here listen here! We have one!!
Fake dating F1 romance with forced proximity and reformed playboy. Signed sealed and delivered!
I was obsessed throughout the whole thing!! I mean the banter, the relationships, the spice!! Amazing amazing amazing! And I could not stop imagining Carlos Sainz as Cruz I mean come TF on.

"Looks like I'm having all kinds of firsts. And all of them are because of Maddix."

First, Cruz Navarro. Our resident legacy F1 driver. He is cocky and he knows it. He's good and he knows it. And he is a playboy through and through and he owns it. But when he has to settle down because a huge contract is on the line who does he choose than the wallflower intern, Maddix Hart. I was obsessed with Cruz and not surprising considering my obsession with Carlos Sainz (I mean IYKYK am I right?) The banter with Maddix was everything and the flirty flirt I was all here for it!! His relationship with his father is complicated to say the least but the burden of the family name on his shoulders is just crushing to read about. Legit tears. But he is willing to do everything and anything to prove his father wrong. And to beat him.

"You can claim you don't want me again, but fuck that, Madds… Because I'm here and this time I'm taking what I want."

And we have our FMC Maddix Hart. Maddix is a wallflower but she has a backbone and a fire to her that I'm just like "Get it girl" whenever she has to verbally spar against Cruz. And this girl has a flirty side which I loved!! Because the scenes that she had to be a femme fatale I was like this is girl power at its finest thank you very much!! I would legit kill to be an F1 WAG but a dream is a dream and at least we can live our dream through Maddix. But anyway yeah love her and there were scenes where I was like "Walk him like a dog sis walk him like a dog" which we always love to see 😏😏

"He lets me be me, when it kind of feels like I'd forgotten how to be that."

This playlist is full of songs from F1 edits (I am not apologizing) but it fits perfectly with the book imo:

5 'CrossHart' Stars!
ARC provided via Valentine PR in exchange for an honest review.

This is the way to start the new year! Reading a book by one of my all-time favorite authors and experiencing a love story that has gripped me from start to finish. I do love K. Bromberg so much, and I have to say she has done an outstanding job with this one. On the Edge has become one of those top books that I will remember every time I think about Kristy’s work. Get ready because if you thought you loved Spencer Riggs, you are so not ready for Cruz Navarro!

So, as I was saying, On the Edge is the second installment in K. Bromberg’s Full Throttle series and it tells the story of Cruz Navarro and Maddix Hart. Cruz is the legacy of the Navarro family in F1, he loves racing, and he desperately needs to close a huge branding deal with Genesee Capital. There is one condition though. He must change his current playboy image and pretend to be madly in love. Enter Maddix, the quiet but sassy intern/wallflower he chooses to be his fake girlfriend. What happens though when these two start getting to know each other and start believing their own lies?

How did I leave here a few days ago uncertain how this would all play out and return to this? To her? To what just happened? To my world being thoroughly rocked?

I loved every word in this novel. I loved the pace, the banter, the burning chemistry and all the feels. As soon as I read this had troupes like forced proximity, only-one-bed, playboy/wallflower and fake relationship, I was all over the idea. Especially when it’s written by geniuses like Kristy Bromberg. The woman sure knows how to write cocky, broken sportsmen and she did a beautiful job with Cruz. Also, let’s talk about Madds too. She is great! I do love a blooming heroine, who is decided to fight for what she wants and love to the fullest. The connection between this couple is palpable from the very start and I loved how they get to their happy ending together.

They say love conquers all, but it’s a hard fucking hill to climb when you’re battling the giant who’s guarded it your whole life.

Therefore, I am rating On the Edge with 5 STARS because it’s now one of my top favorites from this author and you’ll understand why when you read it. The two main characters steal the show and together they have such a beautiful and intense connection. The steam is off the charts and the emotions are on point. Loved the secondary characters too and I seriously am hyped to read the next installment in the series. I can only hope it’s just as good as this one!

This was probably the cheesiest 🧀 romance book I’ve ever read. There comes a point where there can be too much cheese and this book definitely crossed my line. Real men (sadly) don’t spew poetry when giving a love confession. Real men (regrettably) don’t clutch a chain link fence as they watch your plane take off and realize they’re losing the love of their life.

As a long time F1 fan, I love to uptake in F1-romance books. And I love to speculate on who the book drew inspiration from. And this gives some Carlos Sainz in McLaren vibes (especially the cover), with some Jos Verstappen parenting going on (iykyk).

Cruz Nevarro has a family name and legacy to both make proud and fight against. His father is ruethless in how he puts him down, and nothing is ever good enough. Then in comes Maddix, a absolute sweetheart, trust into the F1 world, who even takes a stand against his father. Their work agreement quickly changes, feelings develope, but Cruz has some family trauma that makes taking that leap with her difficult.

It was a great, cute book, great while waiting for the season to start again!

thank you valentine pr for an arc of this book in exchange for my honest review!!

4.5⭐️

this story follows maddix and cruz. cruz is a very famous f1 driver and is let's just say a big partier. he needs to get this big brand deal for his father and his team to get off his back. to get them off his back he needs to fake date someone for the board to think he'll be a good client. in comes maddix who just wanted to be a part of the meeting. it's just fake so that means they won't gain any feelings right?

wow!! this book was so SO good. cruz and maddix literally have my whole heart and i absolutely adored reading their relationship. one of my favorite micro tropes is when the playboy mmc falls so head over heels for the fmc and will do ANYTHING FOR HER. maddix is a bad bitch and i LOVE HER!! i want to be here. this book was so good and i will be thinking about them for the longest time. 10/10 i had a great time. this book will be available on amazon and KU!

this review is going to be a bit of a long one but that is because i absolutely adored this with every part of me. i had a feeling i was going to like this one, but i did not expect to love it as much as i did!! every single part of this was so perfect, starting from the fake dating arrangement Cruz and Maddix had, to them spending all their time together, to them being vulnerable for each other, to the lines being blurred and the ending of the book. i had myself wanting to read more of them every single second and there is no doubt i never wanted this book to end. i loved maddix and crux so so incredibly much and they will forever be in my brain and my heart.

i think what made this book so much more beautiful was the dynamic between the two main characters and what they went through both alone and together. both Cruz and Maddix are most definitely people who were still finding their way alone, but them together was just an unstoppable force. there were so many raw and vulnerable parts of Cruz in the book that made my heart go out to him so many times, he was such a beautiful and endearing character despite what so many people said about him. the way he loved so much for maddix, broke down his walls for her and her only was absolutely everything and he was just one of the best people anyone could ask for!!

and Maddix, oh my gosh she was a character that i related to so much. the girl who puts her heart on her sleeve, the one who loves so fiercely, and the one who would do anything for her loved ones. me and her were alike in so many ways but especially the fact that we want our loved ones to feel safe and loved even when that might not seem like a possibility at the moment. the way she listened to Cruz, cared for him even when his family dynamic was tough, made me love this book and their entire story so much more!!

and the whole aspect of formula 1 and racing in this book just added so much more to the book. the thrill, the excitement and the way the races were written made me truly feel like i was in the race themselves, it was so so perfect. i absolutely love F1 with my entire heart and this book has no doubt become my favorite racing sports romance i've ever read!!

i will be thinking about Cruz and Maddix for days to come and i truly cannot wait for the rest of the books in this series!! absolutely loved this one so so much. if you love forced proximity + one bed + racing romance + fake dating then this one is for you!!

thank you so so much to K. Bromberg and VPR for this ARC! i loved it so so much and had such a good time reading this one.

4.5 stars…

I really liked this, but I’m a sucker for a playboy who has some family trauma. Don’t ask me why. For that reason, I really loved the fake dating aspect of this story. We got to see the real Cruz with Maddix and I loved them together. The grovel was so good too!

I don’t normally write negative reviews but I feel really compelled to provide a warning to this because this book stunned me. In a bad way.

There should be trigger warnings on this book, or better, for what is otherwise a very simple run of the mill sports romance, maybe the author might want to reconsider the line between spicy and downright wrong.

These characters first sexual encounter is essentially both of them being sexually assaulted by each other. First Maddix wakes Cruz up with non-consensual activity which he tries to stop. Then in his POV he admits she’s very drunk and he is completely sober so he shouldn’t have sex with her…then continues to have sex with her.

Naturally she wakes up not remembering and wondering why she is naked and has an ache between her thighs…but don’t worry, it’s a delicious ache and oh, now she’s starting to remember so we can forgive the whole mess.

The first book in this series was the first I ever read of this author and I found the jumpiness of the writing jarring but wasn’t massively offended by anything, so decided to give book 2 a try. But man, it’s all so hot and cold, like there was nothing, no talk of hooking up, then the next chapter starts and he wakes up to her on top of him.

Look, I’ve read some messed up books knowingly, all with proper trigger warnings, and I can suspend reality and stomach almost anything like the best of them. But I can’t forgive what is marketed as a sweet and spicy sports romance for just glossing over sexual assault like that. I honestly can’t believe the author thought this was a good idea and that the editor wasn’t like uh hello, are we sure we want to start this HEA off with non-con? Cool cool cool.

I’m wondering if I read the same book as all these mysterious 5-star arc readers.

Yikes, just a bad, bad look.

One-click this fantastic "fake relationship turned into something more" romance right now! I promise you're going to love Cruz and Maddix as much as I did!

From their first introduction, I was all in on their romance—even when it took Maddix and Cruz forever to realize their fake relationship was very, very real. And amazing. I loved Maddix's tenacity and grit. And I loved Cruz's vulnerability that showed only when around Maddix.

On the Edge is book 2 in the Full Throttle series, but it is truly a standalone. However, I highly recommend also reading Off the Grid because you don't wnt to miss out on Riggs and Camilla's romance. ~ Missy, 5 stars

It looks like K. Bromberg is right back in her sweet spot: churning out gritty, emotional racing books like the ones I fell in love with back over a decade ago.

📕 𝗕𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: On the Edge by K. Bromberg

📙 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀: Full Throttle character series, book 2.

📗 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘀: E-book ARC on Kindle. 🆓️ on KU

📘 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗿𝗲: Sports romance

📔 𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: F1 driver, opposites attract, fake dating, forced proximity, all of the groveling.

📖 𝗦𝘆𝗻𝗼𝗽𝘀𝗶𝘀: Cruz needs a girlfriend to help him rehab his bad boy image. Maddix needs a leg up at her job. While the pair are stuck together until Cruz’s brand deal goes through, Maddix is also thrust into his fast-paced, luxurious world of F1.

🌟 𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄: This. This is why I have read so many K. Bromberg books and why I continue to devour them.

Off the Grid was a great start to the series. On the Edge was perfectly written and expertly balanced. The romance you hope for, the vulnerable characters you can’t help but root for… all on a backdrop of the jet-setting world of F1? Sign me up.

Cruz Navarro was fun to read, and right away, even though you know he has stuff to work through, I loved his banter and his playboy attitude. Maddix was easy to love, and I adored her little family and support system.

All in all, this one had a fantastic little happy ending as well. I can’t wait for more of this series!

***ARC Provided by the Author***

4.5 Stars

Full disclosure, I'm an F1 fan, winter break is taking forever to end, and you can only watch Drive to Survive so many times, so I was reading this book with joy and delight just because it's set in F1.

But it's also well done. The author is clearly a fan of the sport. And I love that she made Maddix someone who knew nothing about F1 so she could add in F1 plot points and explain them for those unfamiliar while not losing interest for fans of the sport. It's a unique edge to balance on, and it was done well.

Cruz and Maddix were engaging and believable. I liked them as people both together and separately, which made the story work well from the romance angle.

The secondary characters were interesting and helped develop the story without taking away from it or making it feel like the story relied too heavily on them.

I also thought it was balanced well between racing/driver plot points and the romance. There was enough of him being a driver for it to be important for the story but not so much that it left you feeling like you were reading a sports documentary.

Overall this book worked, was faithful to F1 as a sport and was an enjoyable romance.

I enjoyed and recommend this book.

“What are you willing to sacrifice to get to the next step?”

That’s the question posed to Maddix Hart after she asked her boss if she could sit in on a highly anticipated client meeting. Little did she know, the question and meeting would end with her being in a fake relationship with Cruz Navarro, Formula 1’s playboy.

🏎️

“Her. The wallflower. That’s who I want to be my girlfriend.”

🏎️

The agreement? A fake relationship long enough for the board at Maddix’s company to see that Cruz is, in fact, “settling down.” In turn, he’ll get signed to a hefty brand deal and she’ll be on her way to a promotion within the company.

Sounds easy enough until beds are shared, laughs are had, and fake dates aren’t feeling very fake anymore.

🏎️

On the Edge was like a serotonin boost injected straight into my brain. I read this in a day and immediately wanted to reread it (you heard me…this was a one day read…and a work day at that 🤫) It hooked me from the first page and my love for it only grew afterwards. I swear I experienced every single emotion whilst reading too. Happy, sad, excited, stressed - you name it, I felt it.

Sports romances are one of my most read tropes, as well as fake dating. There’s just something about two people going from nothing, to being head over heels that just makes me fall in love. Add in a sport being involved and it’s a match made in heaven. The sport : romance ratio in On the Edge was perfect. It can be frustrating when a fake dating x sports romance is all one and barely any of the other. This book, though, was the perfect balance. We got to see so much of the chemistry unfold, as well as be tuned into what was going on in Cruz’s F1 world. One didn’t overshadow the other by any means. I also think jargon can be a turn off for some sports romances, especially ones that involve sports you may know nothing about. On the Edge had none of that. K. Bromberg wrote it in a fool proof way that anyone could read and understand, but also proved that she knew her stuff. I’m not even a F1 girly and yet I felt like I was reading this.

Now, for the characters. My absolute favorites of 2024 so far 🥹

I LOVED Maddix. She was witty, wore her heart on her sleeve, and was a force to be reckoned with. Her immediate draw to help others (Cruz) really stood out and I loved her for it. She felt real, her family felt real, and we love a fellow corporate girly 🫶

Cruz was a firecracker with a heart of gold. Seeing his development over the course of the book was probably my favorite. He went from this carefree, wild playboy, to someone who thoroughly cared for their partner and would do anything for them. I could go on and on about him, but I really think Maddix said it best:

“Cruz Navarro is . . . Jesus. He’s like a walking wet dream and lives up to the notion. His skill. His 🍆. His lips. His . . . everything.”

This may just be my longest review to date, but rightfully so. A book hasn’t made me this genuinely happy in a long time and the urge to read it again right now is VERY present. Cruz Navarro and Maddix Hart have my heart. The end 🤍

ps K. Bromberg, I think I’ve found my new fave romance of yours 🥹

4.5.

This book was so, so cute. I love formula one romances - they are BY FAR my favorite kind of sports romance and this one did not disappoint at all!!

I’m not the biggest fan of fake dating EXCEPT when it’s for PR reasons or something similar to that but the reformer playboy trope???? I’M A SUCKER FOR THAT!!

I loved Cruz Navarro soooo much and I loved the chemistry between the MCs - they were amazing.

The book was great: with a lot of formula one (BIG YES), with a strong FMC and a funny and deep MMC.

If you love:
Sports Romance, specially F1;
Fake Dating
A reformer playboy (AND SPANISH).

You definitely will enjoy this book!

Thank you to Valentine PR and K. Bromberg for an ARC of this book!

I loved this cute sports romance that got my feelers going!
I could not put it down though I made myself since I need sleep.

Maddix works in the world of marketing and PR. She is a go getter and has goals and dreams she wants fulfilled. She feels she has it all figured out until she sits in on one of her company’s big meetings. She gets thrown for a loop when her life collides with Formula 1 driver Cruz Navarro. He is gorgeous, cocky, full of shit… I mean what could go wrong?
Maddix finds herself being his fake girlfriend. Whew, this will certainly be good.

The back and forth, the learning of each other, the spice! These all made for a great book!

The two MC personalities worked do well together. Maddix is not afraid to call out the bullshit.

There is also a deep dive into a rough family background and current family relationships.

The writing style was perfect to me and the story developed perfectly. A perfect mix of buildup and spice.

If you dig sports romance, fake dating, and close proximity, this book is totally for you!

Dual pov…although I wish it had more of Cruz pov. Fake dating. One bed. I didn’t like Cruz at first and then he kind of grew on me. I don’t think his groveling was enough. I understand he couldn’t say it due to his family issues and making it public was him putting himself out there but still.

a letdown of a book… not even a hot, Spanish F1 driver could save it

Well well well, hello Cruz. I adored this book so freakin much. Give me all the bad boy and fake dating combos please. I ate this uuuppppp. The fact he is a F1 driver just made it all the much more delicious to me. I love how approachable this one is for those that aren’t fans of the sport. Since maddix has to learn the rules too, it made it easy to fill in basics (and not so basics) of the sports in an organic way. Gosh, the tropes in this one were so good. And the mouth on that man? Mmm mmm mmm. And actually, the mouth on her too. I loved them both so much and together they are everything. Cruz’s background and complications made the book even more to me, I like the more emotional books. And the way that man won her heart, UGH. Give me a formula one driver pronto please, I am actually begging.

Also I totally pictured Carlos Sainz driving for McLaren the whole time.

Thank you to K. Bromberg and Valentine PR for sending me both books and the goodies. I am obsessed and begging for book 3.

Tropes:
-fake dating
-one bed
-forced proximity/workplace
-“that’s my girl”
-dual pov

✨ARC REVIEW✨

I was so excited to read this book as I’m a HUGE fan of Formula 1!!

Maddix first meets Cruz at her place of work and she doesn’t recognise him. Cruz is there for a meeting with the company she works for and they’ve thrown him a curveball and told him he needs a fake girlfriend to help clean up his image. Given 3 options, Cruz refuses them all and chooses Maddix for the job.

Maddix is adamant they won’t be able to sell this, but after one drunken night, their relationship progresses. And soon, the line between real and fake begin to blur.

Their relationship progression is so perfect. Cruz is utterly obsessed with Maddix but is too scared to admit it because everyone always leaves him.
He’s always seeking for his father’s approval but even when he gets P3 and P2, he still isn’t good enough. (My heart hurts.)

The GROVELLING THIS MAN DOES😭🤌🏻 perfect. I fell in love with Cruz EVEN MORE! UGHHHHH!! Perfect perfect perfect!

Adored this book! Adored Maddix and Cruz and I can’t wait to read more!!!!

Shew. This book was sooo good. Am I a Formula 1 girlie now? Move over sports romance, I want a driver 🥵

Seriously. This book made me feel all the feels and I enjoyed every freaking second. I’m a hoe for a fake dating trope. This was also my first book by this author and can assure you it will not be my last.

I received this book as an ARC from Valentine PR for providing an honest review.

Frekar fyrirsjáanlegt allt saman. Hún byrjaði rosa vel og varð svo rosa ótengd allt í einu og svo kom aftur flæði en samt frekar rushed flæði í lokin.
