I ordered the first book online, because I was intrigued by a fifty year old witch. It ended with a complete cliffhanger. I wasn’t terribly impressed by the character development, but the plot was exciting. So, I ordered the next two books.
Katie is an incredibly sweet, naive woman who comes from a family of witches. In this world, the powers skip generations, so her mother was normal. However, her great-grandmother is still alive, and is really interested in Katie’s peers, because it’s a standard power of three scenario.
Katie annoyed me greatly in the first novel, because she offers to help a pregnant young woman who happens to be married to an evil member of the Mob. Katie collects Marisa and takes her to her luxurious home ( naturally, Katie is incredibly wealthy), assures Marisa she is safe, and leaves to collect groceries. Katie comes home to find her dog outside and frantic, and opens the door to find Marisa tied up. REALLY? She felt a black cloud surrounding the husband, and is aware that his family is known for violence and escaping Justice! I’m not sure how long I will keep reading.

I had high hopes for this series and they are being fulfilled! In the first book, Bryan created memorable, mostly endearing but always compelling characters and an intriguing setting. This fast-paced sequel brings these strong women together to save one of their own in a breathless chase to the finish. And leaves the reader wondering whether perhaps not everything is as black and white as we originally believed? Can't wait for the next book in this delicious series!

The feminist witch story continues. Katie is taken hostage along with her new friend, Marisa, wife of the mob boss. Her best friend, Frankie, joins forces with Detective Harrison Willey to find her. Yuli, her grandmother is also tracking her down but her great-great-grandmother, Zoya, is also looking. Another interesting installment as we discover the darkness surrounding Zoya.

Better than the first book

This book was a pleasure to read. There are so many story arcs I could hardly keep up. I liked the way Katie discovered her magic. It was subtly revealed. With each revelation,
you were pulled into the story more and more. I'm definitely reading the next book in the series.

This second book in the series had so much going on that it kept me on my toes. There’s danger, new friends, new family and still some humor. I really find the character of Zoya off putting. There are elements to her that seem irredeemable but she does seem protective of Katie. I am enjoying seeing Katie grow in her confidence and strength.

Revenge is not as sweet as kindness

Another page turner. I love learning more about the pain that drives Zoya, and love that guides Katie and Yuli. It seems a big heart can only expand the heart of others. Thanks for this story! We truly need this line of thought right now!

Looong winded!!

Started off ok but dragging out the kidnapping drama was annoying. No where near as good as 1st book. Going to try 3rd to see if any improvements
