An inedible entrée in a Michelin Mexican restaurant that could have been lethal. Was it just human error or a deliberate attempt to injure the restaurant reviewer? When Dani is asked to be interviewed for a catering gig in Newport Beach, she plans to stay with an old friend of hers from the Cordon Bleu Cooking School in Paris. What she doesn’t plan on doing is becoming involved in helping her friend, Stephanie, find out if the wickedly overseasoned dish she was served at Taste of Mexico was designed to hurt her or was simply an innocent miscalculation of ingredients. After Stephanie’s blistering magazine review hits the newsstands, her reputation is at stake, because everyone who reads the review disagrees with her. They all love the food at Taste of Mexico. The owner of the magazine she writes for is furious with her, and the restaurant owner is threatening to pull all of his advertising from the magazine.Fortunately, Stephanie’s next-door neighbor is an easy-on-the-eyes private detective who is more than willing to help out. He’s sure Stephanie was targeted and he and Dani work together to save Stephanie’s reputation and her job! This is the 13th book in the Chef Dani Rosetti Cozy Mystery Series by a two-time USA Today Bestselling Author.
Dani went on a job interview which she really did not want--especially after she met the woman! Ine of Dani's good friends happened to live in that area and they made plans to spend a couple of days together. Stephanie was an extremely good and honest restaurant reviewer for a magazine. She had gone to a Michaiin starred restaurant the night before called Taste of Mexico. The meal was so horrendous she wrote a scathing review. Well there was too much spice in the meal she ordered--much too much!!
If course she got in a bit of trouble--actually quite a bit. No one else had ever had that happen at that restaurant. Luckily her next door neighbor was a private investigator--and of course Dano was also there to help.
Well, it gets figured out and possibly Dani and Stephanie have new love interests!
Chef Dani stories are always good. I like it better when there is more cloak dagger action. When she brings her soul chef and Anna. However there was enough mystery involved to keep me guessing who wanted Stephanie dead. When Jake and Diego worked together I began to put it all together. I just couldn't figure out a way to prove it. MRS.Harman did a really neat way of pulling it all together.
Latest in the Dani Rosetti series, this one finds her in Newport to meet a potential client and visit an old friend. The friend is a restaurant reviewer who had just written a scathing review on a new restaurant. The plot thickens when it’s discovered someone tampered with the dish she ate, so the race is on to figure out who did it. A fun read for a lazy Sunday!
This is the second book of this series that I have read. It was different from the first in that neither the Chef’s sous chef or daughter traveled with her on a job interview for an outrageous prospective client. Intrigue ensued and the investigation was launched. The newly introduced characters were interesting and the story was well paced. An enjoyable book to read in an afternoon.
I have read all the Dani Rosetti books and this was one of my favorites. No murders, no precocious niece just a light hearted mystery. A quick read and recipes I and my family would actually eat. Fun book.
I like this series a lot but in this story I missed the supporting cast of characters. Also there are typically more “red herrings” and this one was pretty straightforward. Still love this series!
I enjoyed this slightly different Chef Dani investigation as Dani helps her friend sort out a tricky situation. I thought Dani's interview with Leticia was fun - what a self obsessed woman! Very enjoyable.
I really liked this . it was a change of pace for dianne. No murder to figure out. This time she even has some people she has in her other books! Any book Dianne writes is worth reading !
