Artemis Hunt has always been a runner. Whenever life gets tough, she packs up and leaves. Even if it means leaving her entire life, and pack behind. Artemis eventually finds herself engaged to a man that doesn't treat her right, living in a gilded cage of her own making. After finding her fiancée balls deep in another woman, she pulls another of her famous disappearing acts without hesitation. With a stolen car and her past nipping at her heels, Artemis Hunt longs for the trees of her youth, Timber Hollow.
Jay Temple has always had his life set out for him. As the son of the Alpha of the biggest wolf pack on the Eastern Seaboard, Jay leads a quiet life. One morning everything changes he wakes up next to the girl he never got over. Now that she's back in town, Jay will never let her go.
A classic second chance romance with some supernatural flare.
I am an avid reader of all things magical, fantastical and everything in between. Somewhere between imagining I was the feisty main characters I read about, and dreaming up scenarios where things went differently than they did on paper I decided to create my own stories. Now that I have breathed life into a world, universe of my own I have a much bigger appreciation for all of the stories I read and loved along the way.
When I'm not writing, I am a wife and mom to two beautiful girls, and spend my days in between the trees of New York with my dogs daydreaming about the possibility of a magical world.
Small town shifter second chance romance that’s like Coyote Ugly x True Blood x The Notebook! Talk about SWOON! Autumn is coming so it’s the perfect time for a SPICY werewolf love story!!
Artemis is so relatable to me, snarky and sarcastic with mommy issues, a book lover that collects special editions, and never feels like she belongs. I loved following her POV because I saw myself in her so this was a great start to the series. Jay is a breath of fresh air for Artemis. I loved him. He was the reason I’m over here making googly eyes at my kindle. I adore him!
While this is a low stakes story, we still have an antagonist. And I hated him from page 1! (Don’t worry, we are supposed to hate him) I always enjoy a villain that I despise lol it’s kind of the point isn’t it? Ethan does not deserve anything in this life 😤
I really love the found family/pack in this. It’s hard going from lone wolf to being a part of a group again. The development in Artemis is sweet, very hopeful.
Overall this book was hot, cozy, and sweet. It’s pretty fast paced. It definitely has all of the vibes I look for when I’m looking for autumn entertainment of any kind. I loved it and can’t wait for book 2!
⭐️ The best shifter book I’ve read in a while. ⭐️ If you like: 🐺 Wolf shifters 🎃 Fall/small town vibes 🥈 Second chances 🥵 “Good girl” 🌎 If I matter, he will find me
When I say I devoured this book in a day I mean it. I ARC read this book, on my honeymoon, at Disney World. I downloaded it in line, started to read it and then I stayed up all night to finish it. I COULD NOT put it down.
The banter and dynamic between Artemis and Jay is what every shifter-romance or second chance romance reader wants. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t typically drift towards a second chance romance but this was DONE RIGHT! 💋
Be sure to add this book to your pre-order list, TBR, BookTok, and more. You won’t be disappointed that you did! 💕
This was an incredibly sweet reunion story. Normally I'm not one for second chance romance but I'm so glad I read this.
Artemis and Jay are wonderful, and Saint and Dante compliment this story so well.
I loved the small spooky season elements, pumpkin carvings and the vibe of Coyote Bills is awesome. Pacing was great and I'd love to read more from this author. I do wish there was more Sam, the friendship between her and Artemis is wonderful. Absolutely pick this up if you're looking for a cozy found family read.
Thank you so much to the author for the opportunity to read this.

My baby love has done it again but with a completely new world and new set of badass characters that inspire my inner bad bitch. If you combined Coyote Ugly with a fall romance and tossed in some HOT shifters… Then you’d have the fascinating and enamoring world of Timber Hollow!
There were a few moments that had my jaw dropping in utter shock and that just kept the pages turning one after the other. No spoilers but you may throw your book to only pick it up again... Like five seconds later. LOL. This book was HOT HOT HOT while also sweet and charming in its moments that left my heart feeling warm and fuzzy.
Artemis and Jay have my whole heart “No takebacks.” might be one of my favorite lines ever now. Jay motherfucking Temple is 🥵 and my vicious love Artemis is everything I adore 🧎🏽♀️ I CANNOT WAIT to see how the series continues! I’m looking at you Sam and Ivy, my precious girls 🫶🏼
There’s also still many questions…. Like where the hell is Sam going and what did the Ms.Hotstuff neighbor do?! 😫
Oh and SCREW YOU, ETHAN! 🗡️ YOU STUPID LITTLE RAT BOY!

This ones for you! I adored Artemis and Jay motherfrickin Temple (iykyk). The banter in this book was so good, it was like I was reading about my friend group. The character building was excellent. *chefs kiss* The fall vibes were absolutely there, and I have apparently developed a "thing" for sexy, tattooed, protective men/wolves, so that's new! Bat boys who? JK... maybe 🤭. Okay, in all seriousness, you all need to pre-order this book like... yesterday! September 17th is the release date, so get it while it's hot, and boy, is it ever... the spice is A++
This book was a delightful romp through the woods. Under a bright full moon. Being chased by your sexy fake boyfriend (actual boyfriend?) in his bipedal wolf form. Do you want him to catch you or not? Read to find out! I thoroughly enjoyed this paranormal, small town, second chance romance. Everyone is attractive and I wanted them all to hook up 😂
I am very appreciative that I was given the opportunity to read this book before its release next month!!!
This book was sooo good I ate it up!!! First off Artemis is such a baddie and I love her. Yes she’s queen but she also had her soft spots and I loved that. We follow her POV mostly through out the book. I am happy that she was able to find her way back to home.
Jay….😍 he was WOW. We get a few chapters from his point of view and the way I was squealing while reading his parts. We get to see his thoughts and let’s just say it confirmed all my thoughts on how he feels for Artemis!!
Artemis bio family is not really it but her new pack is just amazing 🥹 I’m so happy she was able to find her pack that she wanted.
Dante and Saint 🥰 I have the feeling that we will be getting to know Dante more and his romance interest, at least I hope so! For now Saint is in my heart until he finds someone for himself.
I recommend to everyone this series! If you love paranormal romances this is up your alley! Also second chance romances done right!

AWOOOOOO CONSIDER ME PART OF THE PACK! This was a treat to read, absolutely perfect for fall small-town vibes. Reading Timber Hollow made me feel like I was in the town of Forks, with a focus on Jacob and his pack. My girl Artemis has her priorities straight as she’s a fellow book girlie and SE collector (a woman after my own heart). Jay was *ugh* just a dream, and it honestly felt like he was the only one on her side at times. I loved so many characters and I HATED so many characters. LIKE LEAVE MY GIRL ALOOONE!! It truly held up to its claim of “found family”. Mindy definitely knows how to write lovable characters and HATEABLE characters.
It was interesting to read about the omegaverse and shifters of other species. It was very refreshing and brought a lot of charm to the book. The worldbuilding was fantastic and part of me still wants to jump through the screen of my kindle into Timber Hollows.
I absolutely ATE up the first half of this book, but unfortunately the second half kind of fell flat.
This was such a feel good read. I have always and will always be a werewolf lover type of gal and this fed that teenager inside of me that adored coyote ugly and twilight (team Jacob obviously). M pettengill is a phenomenal writer and i loved this story.
I’ve never read a wolf shifter but OMG am I hooked now?!? I definitely am. On top of wolf shifter, this is a second chance romance with so much angst and like this man is OBSESSED 😗 This books gives Coyote Ugly meets The Notebook meets Wolves and I ate it up.
Jay and Artemis, ugh I just loved them together. Artemis ran away from Timber Hollow as soon as she turned 18, leaving everything behind including Jay. When she returns to her Pack after leaving her douchecanoe of an ex and she begins adjusting to her new life, this includes accidentally ending up roommates with none other than Jay and they just can’t seem to stay away from each other-neither can their wolves.
All I have to say is Slap shots, ice tub plunges, a Fall festival and a chase scene. That’s really all you need to know to add this book to your TBR.
And Saint-THATS MY MAN. Like I need more of him biblically. This golden retriever of a man is perfection.
One of my favorite tropes is found family. I am also a sucker for second chance romances. Timber Hollow has both of those. This is a great shifter story about a lone wolf reuniting with her Pack. I was a little worried when I started reading this book because I felt like it was going a little slow for the first few chapters. But after about the first twenty pages, I didn’t want to stop reading. I finished this book in a day because I wanted to know what happened next.
Artemis is a wolf shifter that years before left her home and her pack. The story starts with her engaged to a wealthy man and living in his family home. I think the big reason I couldn’t get into the story at first was because I could not stand the White family. I felt like Artemis was wasting her life with the worst people. But the minute she decided to return home to Timber Hollow, I felt myself getting pulled in. Even though I loved the people in Timber Hollow and the city close by, I could feel the itch that Artemis constantly had to run. It almost felt like I was crawling out of my own skin.
I did appreciate Jay. You could tell that his character had gone through a lot of growth in the time that Artemis was gone. I felt for him a lot of the time because he struggled to show Artemis how he had grown when she couldn’t fully trust it. Apart from the MCs, I freaking loved the side characters. Dante and Saint were adorable and I want them in my Pack. Artemis’s people were special as well. Ivy and Sam were just fun and good for Artemis.
If I had one complaint about this book, it’s that I wish I understood more about the shifters. I know that if the author had gotten too deep into it, the beginning would have been much slower. But I was a little confused at times. Other than that, I thought this book was an excellent paranormal romance. There was some very good spice (be on the lookout for Samhain 😉). I was so glad I stuck through the very beginning because this book was so good.
Wolf shifters meets Coyote Ugly meets cozy fall romance is a perfect way to describe the overall vibes of Timber Hollow. I adore the found family trope. I love the idea of being able to create a family by who you pick and choose who is close to you and you can trust whole heartedly. In my experience, sometimes this found family is there for you in way your actual family could never be. This book embodies that.
Artemis had left her pack years ago and is currently living with her fiancé. You are not meant to like this part of her life, made obvious by Pettengill’s writing of them. It was not a good situation and you wanted Artemis out of it asap. I was so happy when she decides to return home and this is when the story hooked me. The backstory was written in well and explained at perfect times. Getting this past information plays a huge part into understanding why Artemis left in the first place.
The loveable, homegrown Jay is amazing. He never expected Artemis to return, but now that she has, will stop at nothing to prove how he has changed. He wants to get to know her again, help heal old wounds, and make sure she knows how loved she is. Their relationship was beyond enjoyable to watch grow and develop. And the spice was perfection *chefs kiss*.
Pettengill wrote a beautiful story about coming home and finding the place that you fit into. A reminder to not make yourself fit into a place that doesn’t feel natural and surrounding yourself with people who cultivate the best version of you to thrive. I loved the side characters as well, as they definitely gave main character energy, and I hope to see them in other books within this setting in the future.
As always, review any author notes before reading.
Tropes: 🍻 Coyote Ugly Bar ❤️ Second Chance Romance 📚 Childhood Friends to Lovers to Strangers to Lovers 🛌 One Bed 🍂 Cozy Fall Vibes 🌶️ Open Door Spice 💋 Fake Dating 🐺 Found Family
Timber Hollow is the start of a new series of standalones for M. Pettengill and was such a fun book that I absolutely devoured it in a day. I never knew you could combine Coyote Ugly and The Notebook but it turns out it works well together. Add in a second chance romance and some shifters? and you have a perfect fun low stakes palette cleanser.
Artemis was such a relatable FMC to follow. Having felt like she never truly fit in or had a home, she opened herself up to her best friend Jay who became a on again off again situationship until he broke her heart. With a tendency to run, that is what Artemis did, she ran from her problems till she found herself in a place where she doesn't even recognize herself anymore. What's left to do but to go home?
While this story is mainly told in Artemis's pov we do get a couple slips into Jay's mind which was an interesting take on the dual pov. I really wouldn't classify this as dual POV though, it is a chapter and a half but I felt like it was enough to truly get a grip on exactly what his deal was. For a minute I found myself questioning if this was going to turn into a why choose situation but I wasn't disappointed when it wasn't, gotta love the pack mentality of the found family. The development we saw from the characters, particularly Artemis where she learns to let people in and accept a pack was sweet and I loved the hints for the future books. My only issue was the random jumps in time, but that was only because it took me a few chapters catch on to exactly how it was happening.
Overall, this book is a low stakes, fun, spicy paranormal romance that I absolutely recommend for your fall tbr; especially if you find yourself in a reading slump. You won't be disappointed.
Thank you so much M. Pettengill for this arc in exchange for an honest review!
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Spoiler-free review below!
The good: I enjoyed this book so much I finished it in two sittings! A shifter romance? Yes, please! I absolutely fell in love with the MMC reading the book. One of the things I do not like about most shifter romances, is that you get a strong FMC who suddenly becomes incapable of anything once you have a strong MMC. That was not a part of this story AT ALL. Artemis remained strong and competent throughout, even when she lets the MMC stand up for her or help her, it happens without the typical misogyny. For that I commend the author, and will absolutely read the rest of her books.
The neutral: The book reads like a Wattpad story. I consider this neutral because it wouldn't discourage me from reading it, but be prepared for lines such as "wings sharp enough to kill a man," (describing her eyeliner), "lone wolf, awooo" (said in our FMC's internal dialogue about herself), "those eyes that can never decide on green or blue," (seriously, eyes don't change color, scientifically speaking). The FMC's name is really cheesy (Hunt, for a werewolf?), and I honestly found her difficult to like. She reads like the stereotypical "not like other girls" character who did not pass the Bechdel test once (and I am begging her to buy something that is not a flannel, said as a flannel wearing bisexual myself, there were more mentions of flannel than any other singular thing in the entire book).
The author's note in the end mentions future books set in the same area with some of the side characters and I will absolutely be looking forward to those! Outside of our FMC, there was not a character in this book I didn't love (except for the ones we aren't meant to like), and I look forward to reading more about them! If you like shifter romances, you will absolutely like this book.
I really liked this book. Every step of the way you fell more in love with Artemis. She was so strong but you can she’s struggling. She’s so beat down at the beginning, she is in a relationship where she just doesn’t care. It hurts to see until she leaves. You root for her the entire book and want what’s best for her. Jay is an interesting love interest because while you know he’s going to stay for Artemis and wants forever with her, Artemis doesn’t and it breaks your heart. He’s a good guy and truly loves Artemis for who she is. I’m a bit confused on his standing in the Pack but at least he has HIS Pack. The side characters were great additions to this book and really made it so much better. I loved Ivy and how she and Artemis become such good friends. Artemis felt alone for so long that all the friends she made really made me happy. I loved Sam in California and wished she moved to Timber Hollow but understand why she didn’t. Saint and Dante were such good roommates and friends to Artemis that it would be hard to imagine a story where they weren’t there welcoming her home. These people made up the family that Artemis’ weren’t. I think Artemis’ childhood was glossed over way too fast and we definitely could have gotten more on it and I would have been happy. I still don’t understand why no one is saying anything about how Artemis’ mom has been treating her but alas here we are. I’m really hopeful for a second book following a certain other couple. The first was so good that I can only imagine the second would be as good or even better. I would 100% recommend this book and can’t wait to see what’s next in the Timber Hollow world. I read this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
Thank you to the author for providing me with an arc of this book!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
What a cozy, feel-good read! The vibe that Pettengill creates in this book is unmatched with the small town, Fall themes, and MMCs to drool over. Everything about this book screams Fall and I am here for it!
Artemis: Such a relatable character for me with her gut reaction to run away from emotionally charged situations. And I absolutely loved getting a few chapters at the start to establish her relationship with Ethan and get a full picture of what her life has been like for the past several years.
Jay: What a little softie (for Artemis, of course)! I love the dichotomy of his hard outer shell and Dom tendencies compared to his soft center when it comes to his feelings for Artemis. Any time the MMC follows the FMC cross country to make sure she's okay? An instant 10 in my book. I love him!
Saint:
I loved all of the characters in this book, especially Ivy, Sam, and Dante but I wanted to highlight the main three we follow in this book. Overall this was such a cute, fun story with a good amount of spice to keep you entertained. I only wish the book was longer so we had more time in this cozy little town to learn more about my new favorite cast of characters.
Troped I Loved: 🐺Strong, independent FMC 🐺Broody, silent-type MMC 🐺Golden retriever best friend 🐺Black cat best friend 🐺Cozy, Fall vibes 🐺Fake dating 🐺Second chance
The perfect romance book for all my fellow wolf loving people! If you’re into paranormal romances or even just want to dip your toe in the genre, this is your next read. It’s such a vibey setting with an array of scenes that feel straight out of a movie. There’s so many fun (and steamy) romance tropes that have you kicking your feet and the story is easy to digest and hard to put down. Artemis is a fire cracker but still totally relatable and I kinda felt like I was her as I was reading. Only she’s much cooler … but a girl can dream. Between the clothes, attitude and the way she handles a car, the girl is sexy af. Jay is the perfect rough-on-the-outside but soft-on-the-inside, backwards cap wearing, growly MMC and the whole time I was reading I was just picturing Jensen Ackles. If that isn’t enough to sell you, there’s a lovable member of the pack named Saint and he’s the sexiest cinnamon scroll/puppy dog and resident chef and he’s just to die for. And I have a feeling we’ll be getting more of his story soon!
I was honoured to receive this book as an ARC, and I am in love and hooked, and what more!
Jay and Artemis are so freaking hot together. Wow... those spicy scenes were toe curling and lip biting good! I, for once, didn't cringe at someone being called baby girl (that terrible 365-day movie ruined it for me), but meow when Jay said it, I blushed.. I loved the banter between these two.. i actually snorted, and the sexual tension was just too hot to handle!
I love wolfie/shifter stories so much because of the huge sense of belonging and family that is usually involved, and I am such a huge believer in family first.
I also loved all of the side characters... Sam is a queen, and I loved her so much . The boys Dante and Saint are so darn sexy, cute, and loveable! I was actually kind hoping Artemis claimed all 3 because I would have.. and I love Ivy. Oh, how I loved her interactions with Artemis and how she stood by her!
Side note: f**k Ethan and his family... that is all!
Please add this to your TBR it is a fantastic read! It is released on the 17th of September!
I absolutely enjoyed reading Timber Hollow! This is a paranormal shifter romance with a lone wolf finding her way back home
I absolutely love Artemis, she's a badass woman who's been on her own for a while. The struggles of wanting to come home, yet still finding your place again, is well portrayed
And of course Jay!! His pack makes you feel right at home. The found family feelings are strong!! I was smiling a lot while reading this book, loved the ending
Arooooooo Oh how I wish I was a shifter! I would love to live in a cute little town like Timber Hollow and find a family like Artemis found. At first, I was not convinced I was going to like this book. Ethan was too much of a douche, but luckily for me and Artemis, her path changed real quick. I am all for Artemis living in a house full of hot wolf shifters, who taught her how to have someone take care of her again. I love the girl power in this book too. Artemis and her friends support each other and are very creative in their entrepreneurial enterprises (wink, wink). Ivy and Sam are amazing characters and I hope to see more of them in the future. This was a second chance love and I’m so glad it happened. They were pining for each other all this time; they mesh seamlessly. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next installment in this series. Maybe seeing the other boys have their chance at love or ya know my girls, Ivy and Sam.
Absolutely amazing story, I hate how she felt invisible to her family and her pack, and the only way she felt to change that was to leave. Then she got in a relationship where she was not only emotionally abused but cheated on. Then, for her to truly feel a part of a pack again is truly heartbreaking. I feel for this girl, and when she goes home, she's treated awful or as a pariah because of how her own family treated her. I would've left as well. Then, to find out her boyfriend at the time had a hand in on it from something he said back then, it crushed her worse because he was the only one who truly saw her and liked her her. But for all the years to go by and her to come home and him to still be in love with her, that's a teat of true love. I loved this book! It's a definite read!!
I am so sad this book is over, and is the first in its series. The way I fell in love with both Artemis and Jay UGHH
Artemis has always felt like the outcast in her home, so at 18 she picked up and left. Constantly traveling and never really putting down roots. She almost ended up in a human marriage just to belong somewhere.
After 7 years she goes back home…. And who is there other than her on and off again high school bf.
Jay gives Noah from the notebook. He wants nothing but Art!
Also the found family Art gets with jays friends is the sweetest thing. I am so excited to see whose story is next. Could it be Dante with possibly ivy?! Orrrrr could it be Saint and dare I say Sam?!?!
For being a shifter book this was written very well. It didn’t go to in depth with pack hierarchy or extra fluff. And there was a partial shift spicy scene 🫣
10/10 recommend!!
*I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
🐺 Lone wolf 🐺 Shifters 🐺 Small town 🐺 Second chance 🐺 Fake dating 🐺 Knotting
This was my first book about/with shifters and it did not dissapoint. Had to look up a certain trope though..
Artemis left her pack and small town, heartbroken, for years. Met a guy, guy sucks, not gonna spill anything here. Eventually she ends up back at the place and pack she left and wakes up next to Jay motherf&&cking Templeton. What a hell of a ride that will be.. (pun intended).
You'll fall in love with all three of the guys and might even wish for it to be an why choose. I know I did!
The story is well written, has a lot of hurt but also warmth and love. I loved every bit of it and can't wait for what's to come!
A lone wolf, literally, Artemis up and left her pack one day. Slowly making her way from one coast to another and ending up in California. With a sketchy guy she doesn’t even really like. Good thing she likes to run, because that’s exactly what she does one night after seeming him be a shifty guy. She ends up going back home, to become one with her pack again.
Jay, the Alphas son was once dating Artemis. Unfortunately, she ran from him and he’s just been trying to find her and waiting for her all these years. He gives up hope when he sees her face in the tabloids because of the guy she ends up with. Good thing, he’s there when she returns home and now they’re getting a second chance
I had the privilege of being an advance reader of this book. I really enjoyed this book. It was cute and I loved the references to coyote ugly! I do wish there had been a bit more detail into some of the things mentioned but I’m hoping in the next books some of the questions are answered. The pace of the books was fast and I really enjoyed it. There was some spicy which I rated about a 3. Artemis is a wolf on the run from her past. After she catches her fiancee cheating on her she goes back home where she runs into her ex Jay Motherfu(king Temple This is a cute second chance romance with golden retriever vibes from the mmc and black cat energy from the fmc. Oh and the twist? They are werewolf shifters!
This was a quick and fun read. I really enjoyed the wolf shifter aspect and of course add in the 2nd chance romance, make it easy to binge read and you have this very book. Surprisingly the main characters where not my very favorite in this story. I was most drawn in by Saint and hoping that he gets his own book and very soon! To sum it up, we have a shifter romance with spice, second chance and found family that will draw you in. I recommend a good comfy reading chair, a snack and a favorite and a couple of hours to consume this awesome book. I will definitely read more books by this author.
It was fine. It felt rather bland at times and Artemis annoyed me with her wish washy attitude. Some elements of the story didn’t feel very fleshed out, and instead of adding to the story, they just were. Honestly the whole book just was. I cringed more than once with jay and Artemis’ dialogue. It could be a great story, it’s just missing something to give it substance. I think maybe the writing style didn’t have much depth? Like, the author told more than she showed so certain elements didn’t feel natural. Also how old is everyone? It’s hinted that they’re all late twenties at least, but everyone acts like they’re in high school.
4/5 stars 3/5 spice! I’m obsessed with the MMC. And Ethan can eat SH!TT 🤣. Love the side characters. Only confusing part was the beta males of Jay for some reason I thought it was going to turn into a RH lol. I love the bar aspect and the new friends she makes. And the build up. I love she has an all black wolf feels like an outsider but finds her way home. Overall really good read! No fated mates. Or mates in general. I LOVE Sam she’s amazing. No huge triggers and solid cozy read but lots of spice! -Kerin
Described as Coyote Ugly meets The Notebook, mixed in wolf shifters and second chance with a Sassy FMC and possessive MMC this book is definitely for you. I enjoyed this sweet and cozy read, though in saying sweet and cozy this book is also spicy! The author did a great job with characters and story. I’m not a huge fan of second chance stories but I was pleasantly impressed with this, the character development was done well and I enjoyed the found family aspect, overall this was a good read and recommend to those who enjoy second chance shifter romances.
