There is a thin line between love and hate. But how about between love and loathe? Because that's where I was. I loved my father, but I loathed him at the same time. My father lied. My father betrayed me. The life I knew was ripped from under my feet and I was given a six-foot seven bodyguard named Titus.
Five steps behind. Always. Until he wasn't.
Titus King swore to protect me at all costs, even in death he promised to protect me because that was his job. But falling in love with me? That wasn't part of his job description.
I was his twilight. He was my forever.
But we weren't promised our happily ever after. My father had already agreed my hand in marriage to a ruthless crime lord as an exchange for my family's life.
My new life was forced upon me, but I will not back down. I will not become a trophy wife. I will not stop fighting for the life I so desperately want. And that life is Titus King.
Ashlee Rose lives in the UK where she resides with her husband, three children and her crazy cockapoo.
When Ashlee isn't being a stay at home mum and housewife, she is losing herself in her steamy romance novels and swoon worthy alphas.
Ashlee has always been an avid reader of romance and lives in a fantasy world.
In 2018, she decided to try her hand at writing, a few months later Something New was published. After vowing to finish the Entwined In You series and leaving it at that, Ashlee got the itch to continue and has many more romance novels up her sleeve.
Ashlee is on all social media platforms so go over and give her a follow.
If you have read Ashlee Rose before and also read the first book in the illicit love series, then you know what to expect.
We got a taste of Titus in The Resentment, and as the book title suggests, let’s just say I was hooked, and can you not be, with this authors style of writing you will absolutely love Titus and Amora. They were well suited to each other, perfect even.
If the age gap, bodyguard, and romance are your tropes, then this book will hit it off for you. And as always, expect a roller coaster of twists and turns for start to finish because it will have you on the precipice of your seat.
This book will make you laugh and cry in ways that you’ve never felt before. If that happily ever after didn’t get you good, then I’m pretty sure that the love, happiness, care, and protectiveness that he showed towards Amora sure will.
I received an ARC. Therefore, I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have been sitting here the past 20 minutes trying to put into words how much I adore this book😩.
Xavier and Royal are one of my favourite couples that Ashlee has written so I was so excited to see them back again as parents… even though Xavier baby I love you but a few time he pissed me off but he did have his reasons👀. Also Xavi’s banter with Titus had me in stitches, they both pissed each other off😂
I am an absolute sucker for an age gap and bodyguard romance and this book definitely hits the spot. Amora and Titus I am OBSESSED. Amora certainly has her mothers fire in her which I absolutely loved and Titus I mean I practically swooned every time he called her ‘twilight’ and his reasoning behind her nickname my god my heart absolutely melted🥺.
Without giving too much away this book is a rollercoaster from start to finish with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat. I swooned, laughed and teared up more times than you can count👏🏼
One more thing that epilogue my god I cannot wait to read about Arizona and Keaton👀
I am so grateful to Ashlee to have provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts.
Titus has been sent to England from the US to watch over Amora as her body guard. Of course he falls in love with her and she falls for him but it’s not that simple. There are so many twists and turns happening all the way through, leaving you on edge wondering how they will ever get their happy ending.
I love the characters in this story, Ashlee does such a great job giving them all their own unique personalities. Even the side characters seem to have their own secrets going on. I have everything crossed they will get their own books soon!
I would advise you read Savage Love by Ashlee Rose before this book to get a good look into Amora’s mum and dad’s journey to their HEA.
Age gap is my fav trope so I started with the second book, I was expecting a very protective and possessive bodyguard but I was a little disappointed. She is set to marry a disgusting man in an arranged marriage and at some point H is ready to let her do it, she protects her and loves her but he doesn’t fight her father or anyone, actually he is always saying In Another Life you and Me… what is that? He surrendered and is ready to leave for USA and is eager to drink beer with his friends and family!!! His thoughts…
The three stars are because the sex scenes are really good and it’s a safe book but not really romantic and with a weak hero,

I have never laughed then cried in such a small space of time. Daddy Xavier absolutely kills it 😂. Amora and Titus are such beautiful souls and they definitely deserved their hea. Even if it took a lot to get there. These two are simply amazing as well as their story. The love, care, happiness and protectiveness Titus showed was stunning. I loved it
DNF at 60%. I really tried to like this book but even the first 20% were bad and I should’ve stopped reading then. The main characters don’t even meet after 20% and the beginning had so much unnecessary info that could’ve been left out.
I’ve read a few of this authors books now, and each one gets better than the last! This is book 2 in the illicit love series and after loving the first book so much I was so excited for The Loathing. It didn’t disappoint, Titus and Amora are everything and the spice is hawt! Loved it.
I loved Titus and Amora!! The connection between the two was undeniable! I must admit I did struggle to begin with keeping track of everyone and who was who but I got there in the end! 😂 The journey this book took me on was WILD! And at some points I had to stop just to contemplate what just happened! Whilst Xavier and Royal may be my favourites I think Titus and Amora come in a a close second! This book was sweet, spicy and made me melt in all the right ways!
The Loathing follows Titus and Amora in a forced proximity, bodyguard romance that interconnects with a past world of Ashlee’s—Savage Love. As someone who hasn’t gotten around to reading that particular book yet, I can say that I never felt confused because Ashlee provided enough context that I was kept informed.
To sum things up quickly, Amora’s father crossed the wrong men and it put a target on her head. Enter Titus—the bodyguard that’s twice her age whom her father hires to watch over her and keep her safe. And as anyone would, Amora is not a fan of the idea of being kept prisoner, with a babysitter, watching her freedom slip away slowly while she’s a sitting duck.
But things turn south when all that extra time spent together turns into something more and their relationship takes an unprofessional turn. Especially when Titus is forced to take Amora into hiding because there’s nothing like being alone in a faraway cabin with the person whose every thought consumes you.
There’s a lot of tension between the two, but from the very beginning there was a pull between each other, and a cell deep need to keep her safe. Even though it started as a job, it morphed into something much more than that—a soul deep love and adoration for each other.
The plot twist at the end came out of nowhere and I nearly screamed at how perfectly unexpected it was. If you like age gap, body guard romances with a ‘pure’ heroine and a hot guard with a creative mouth, then try reading The Loathing!
I'm a goner for any bodyguard /agegap romance and Titus had delivered as a bodyguard!! 😮💨 this book had me shaking the whole reading process out of stress and fear but the end was so reliving and satisfying! Titus and amora got what they deserved FINALLY! 🥹
I loved seen Xavier's and royal's relationship after becoming parents , tho I despised Xavier a few times and wanted to strangle him, but then royal did it like nobody's business that woman is FIRE🤌🏻
I enjoyed the love/hate relationship Titus and Xavier shared it was sooo fun to see them liking each other but never admitting it out loud was hilarious 😂
Now I'm Sooooo excited for the next book Arizona sounds like a BADASS and I'm always here for a one 💅🏻

✨️🦋read if you like: - bodyguard x client - forbidden romance - age gap romance - protective hero - touch her and die - he gives her nicknames - single dad - dual POV - open door
Amora's life changes drastically when she has to marry a ruthless crime lord because of her fathers mistake. With a constant target on her back, her father hires a bodyguard. She not only has to give up her freedom but also get used to her new shadow, who is always five steps behind her. Titus. He promised to do his job well and protect her no matter what. But is falling in love with a client who is younger than him also part of his job description? Surely not. But who is gonna stop him? 😏
I knew that this book was going to be different from the ones that I'm used to, but i wanted to challenge myself and read something new. And although this is more on the darker side, I have to say that I wasn't disappointed. Would some scenes in real life trigger me? Oh, yes. Definitely. But in this book? I'm ignoring all the red flags. Sorry, not sorry. I ate this book up!! I don't know what happened to me and my softie heart, but I just couldn't put it down.
Amora was fearless! Despite everything happening around her, she never gave up fighting. That's a badass woman.
Titus, my god. A hidden cinnamon roll character with a tough exterior who would do anything for the FMC.
“Do you know what I hate the most about this whole situation?” “What?” “That I can’t love you out loud.”
Amora Archibald is such a fierce, feisty and sassy woman. She is a mood, and I loved her in this book. The headaches she causes the people around her… but it’s very cool, that she does not back down. A lot of changes was coming her way, without her having any say, and I totally understand her frustrations. Also, she never gave up fighting for what she wanted, despite everything - my kind of gal.
Titus King is so very sweet, but still protective and sexy. He has a kind, loving heart, and just wants his people to be safe. After the disaster with his daughter’s mother, he has not let himself experience that all-consuming love. He really wants to though, and it’s clear that there is something happening between him and Amora. He truly is a cinnamon roll hero, but with a very protective alpha side, when it’s needed. And his nickname for Amora, is just *chef’s kiss*!
I laughed out loud at times, especially when Amora let her fiery side all out. Also, the banter between Titus and his friends was very nice, and omg! the bickering between Titus and Xavier. There were also some quite emotional moments, and the forbidden aspects of their relationship made for some delightful angst. The really had to work for their HEA, but it made it all that sweeter when it happened. Plus, the spice was very spicy, even if it is a bit of a slow burn! There was a solid plot, with several twists along the way, but the growing relationship between Titus and Amora was still the main thing.
For me personally, it took a bit of time to really get into this story, since the language is very descriptive, and I was a bit frustrated at times while reading. But for fans of forbidden, age gap stories with both plot and spice, I will definitely recommend this one!

🌸ARC Review🌸
Once again we are so grateful to have been able to read this early. We absolutely LOVE Ashlee’s books and couldn’t wait to read the story of Titus.
All Titus has ever wanted is to have true love, but gave up on that a long time ago, that was until he got a job as a bodyguard in England to protect Xavier’s daughter Amora.
Amora loves her dad but also loathes him at the same time especially now he betrayed her. She’s determined to fight for the life she desperately wants and that is with Titus King.
Ashlee you did it again we absolutely loved this book 👏🏼👏🏼 Titus is definitely book husband material. We just loved him and he was so sweet and caring. 🥰🥰
We absolutely love a good strong FMC and Amora was just that, the attitude she gives her dad and others in the book was great.
We’ve got to give a mention to Xavier and Royal, some of the parts from them had us laughing out loud, especially his nickname for Titus 😁
Titus and Amora’s love story was just perfection 😍
Another great book from Ashlee.
And can we just talk about that ending of the epilogue 😱😱😱 like give us book 3 now 😂 we can’t wait for there story 😬
If you haven’t already we definitely recommend reading this series.
“Lifting my hand from his skin, I place it over his as we sit in silence dreaming of the what if’s.” -Amora
“…he needs to let me find myself in this black and white world until I find the small bit of colour needed to light my world up.” -Amora
*Spoiler*
Seriously. The first line of this will be a spoiler. Proceed with caution.
He sold his daughter so he could live another day? What the actual fuck?!?! Seeing as that is what happened to his wife, yup, you heard that right. It runs in the family apparently. His wife was sold to him because her father gambled her away. He claims to love them both to no end. Yet, he SOLD his daughter to cover his ass. Ugh. Such a bag of dicks.
Amora is so much stronger than I would be. My parents we protective. Not like her’s seeing as neither of my parents are hired assassins. She was so overprotected and secluded in her world that she had a false sense of safe in her life. Then she gets kidnapped and her world gets shaken up more than a scene in a snow globe.
Oh that character growth, though. Yassss girl! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Then there is Titus. There isn’t really anything negative I can say about him. It is said she felt his only purpose in life was to be Arizona’s dad. While his friends were helping his raise her, it would have been nice to for them yo make sure he was okay. Not just in asking, but making sure he was healing. Other than that, where is the sign up sheet for sexy bodyguards? It hasn’t made its way to me yet.

⭐ARC Review⭐ Thank you to Ashlee for allowing me to read and review her book before release.
🔥Age Gap 🔥Bodyguard 🔥Arranged Marriage (not to MMC) 🔥Virgin Heroine 🔥Protective Hero 🔥Touch Her and Die vibes 🔥Single Dad
Amora Archibald is about to become a prisoner in her own life. After a mistake made by her father, Xavier, she now has to pay the price by giving up her freedom. With a target on her back she now have to put her trust in hired bodyguard, Titus. He swears to protect her no matter the cost from any and all harm. She was supposed to just be a job and nothing more but as they spend more time together that all changes and they find love, something they didn't think was possible.
Amora and Titus are definitely my favorite couple on the Illicit Love series so far. Their chemistry and interactions were so sweet and it got pretty steamy between them. I also really felt for Amora and her struggles with her demanding father. Speaking of Xavier, I was not too happy with him most of the book but by the end I understood his motives and that he was truly looking out for his family as best he could. Overall this was a really great read and I'm excited to see what's next for the Illicit Love cast of characters. Especially after that epilogue!! Can't wait for Arizona and Keaton's story.
Ashlee once again giving me everything I love….. age gap, bodyguard, forbidden romance, banter, spice and of course more of Xavier Archibald 😂
I’ve been sitting on this review since I finished this book I just don’t know how to put it into words how good this book was! It definitely brought out all the feels and all the emotions! Xavier has promised Amoras hand in marriage to a dangerous crime lord in exchange for his family’s life and Titus King is hired by Xavier to project his daughter and be her bodyguard.
Xavier and Royal are one of my favourite couples so I was delighted to get more of them but this time as parents and get Amoras and Titus’ story but I’m Not gonna lie there was times I was ready to throw my kindle across the room because of Xavier and what he was doing to Amora 😂 but the banter between Xavier and Titus was hilarious 😆 Amora and Titus oh how my heart burst for them they are just so deserving of love they had to go through a lot individually and together you just want them to get their happily ever after Amora really is a mixture of her parents fiery like her mother yet stubborn and smart mouthed like her dad I absolutely loved it! Titus he really is a secret cinnamon roll he’s got a tough and alpha exterior but on the inside for those he loves he’s a little softie! And don’t get me started on the reason why he calls her “twilight” my heart couldn’t take the sweetness!🥹🥹
This book really takes you on a journey full of highs, lows, tears, laughter, anger and plenty of spicy swoon worthy moments! It was so amazing getting to see the next generation of some of my favourite characters.
That epilogue!!!!! Ashlee you are such a tease 😂 I can’t wait for the next book and next couple!!!!!!
The nicknames 🥹 The spice 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 The forbidden love. The banter The journey And Xavier Archibald.
What more could you need?!??
When Amora needs projection because of Daddy Dearest Xavier, said Daddy calls in a favour from Titus King to help be her bodyguard. The moment Amora and Titus meet is just electric! The sparks are flying all over the place! But both know they can’t do anything about their feelings as it can’t go anywhere.. as Xavier has his own plans for his daughter….
This is a slow burn-age gap- bodyguard romance with a very well deserved happily ever after.
Titus is one hot guy!! He is fiercely projection of Amora and his feelings for her will just make you burn for him to be real!!! Amora is one of Ashlee’s strongest FMC she’s written (I think) she’s passionate, she strong minded and is a beauty that really doesn’t hold back her words and can throw down with the big boys.
Ashlee defo knows her alphas and having one of her best thrown in with a new alpha was amazing to read. The banter with Xavier and Titus was so much fun and just had me laughing out loud. And it was so nice having previous characters be brought into the story.
But… Ashlee defo left us all hanging with that epilogue!!! Can’t wait for what’s next!!! ❤️
𝗧𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝘀: age gap, single dad, bodyguard, protective hero, touch her and die, forbidden
From the first chapters, Titus and Amora captivated my attention. Titus is a caring father who loves his daughter very much, and Amora has a very strong personality and fights for her and her opinions. They are perfect for each other.
I really liked the moments between them and how little by little they start to form a couple and embrace deep feelings.
I also liked the other characters, especially Titus' friends and Amora's mother. Instead, who I didn't like was her father. In the end we understood what he wanted to do, but if only he had communicated with Titus and Amora. He just needed to explain the situation and what they had to do.
I hated the fact that he kept them in the dark the whole time, making Titus somehow take matters into his own hands and help Amora escape. They forgave Amora's father, but I didn't. I mean, he was funny in the conversations with Titus, but still in a way he hurt them a lot. They barely spent time as a couple before everything took a turn for the worse.
I liked the book, and now I had to read the first book in the series until the next one is released.
Thank you Ashlee Rose for the opportunity to read this amazing book in exchange for an honest review.
Hey all, I received Ashlee Rose's book the Loathing as an ARC, which I'm very grateful for. My complulsive disorder made me buy the first book in the series because I can't start reading a series on the second book. This is why this review took a while.
We met Titus a little bit in The Resentment, the first book in the Illicit Love series. It was just a sliver but I knew his book was going to be good.
Amora, I felt, was a little brat, but you know, so am I. But we also have the red hair and love of painting in common. I think her attitude towards her father was pretty justified. I haven't read the series that came before Illicit Love, so I would've probably thought differently about Xavier if I had. Amora is pretty relatable. She was dealt a pretty bad hand because of her father's mistakes so hence the attitude.
Titus is a book daddy. He would've done anything for Amora, it just took a while for him to realize what he was capable of. Owe and every time Titus smirked, I felt it in my core.
I really recommend The Loathing, but please, at least read The Resentment first. But you can even go back more in the past and read Dear Heart, You Screwed Me. I can't wait to read the next installment, because of the end. No spoilers...
age gap bodyguard single parent arranged marriage
Favorite quote: “All the hurt, the resentment, the loathing, and the betrayal all shimmer deep inside of me because it's just me and him” #easteregg??
" You have no control who you fall in love with, and I happened to fall in love with my bodyguard."
Yes, yes you did girl and honestly I can't blame you because Titus King is freakin Mwah!!! I can't even with this man.... The nicknames he had for Amora (twilight)........ I absolutely melted!! The way he supported Amora....... Swoon! The fierce way he protected Amora.... Swoon! The kind of father he was..... Loved!
So yes Amora, I can completely see why you fell in love with your bodyguard. Gosh did I love Amora! With Xavier and Royal for parents I wasn't surprised she was strong, talented, a little innocent but also had some fire!
ok.... daddy Xavier!! My feels for this man have not changed. He frustrated the heck out me, made me a little stabby at times but damn I still love him. His banter with Titus had me laughing like crazy at times. They were too funny with there I hate you but don't really relationship.
Riddled with tension, humour, romance, twists and turns, suspense and a little action, this slow-burn / age-gap / bodyguard / romantic suspense story had me hooked from start to finish. While devouring I laughed, I swooned, I got emotional and I got incredibly annoyed (hello Xavier). It was definitely a rollercoaster ride which I loved every minute of. Then.... Ashlee Rose!!! Damn girl.... that Epilogue (hot damn) I shall be needing Arizona and Keaton's book ASAP. Loved this book and loving this series!
“Like I found you, you showed me just how beautiful this world actually is. My very own kaleidoscope. I never knew life could be this pretty until you…”
One of the most swoonworthy things I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. I absolutely love that the FMC, Amora, is an artist. Art, like reading, is purely subjective to whomever is observing it, and truly this fragment is beyond perfect.
The Loathing is my first Ashlee Rose read and I’ll definitely be reading this entire series! This one is one of the ultimate slow burns, in my opinion, and I wasn’t exactly prepared… but when I say Ashlee delivered, you’re damn right she did😈🤣 These two were like rabbits once the going got on. Titus and Amora, what a freaking pair🥹🫶🏼
This story is a rollercoaster of emotions- particularly an emotion that makes you think terrible things, such as dismembering certain characters at certain points of the book… Amira’s father, Xavier. Sigh. That man is infuriating but at the end, you understand why.
If age gap, bodyguard, forbidden love and some of the cheekiest banter ever is your thing, make sure you pick up your copy of The Loathing (and grab book one too, while you’re at it).
✔️ Age gap ✔️ Bodyguard ✔️ Arranged Marriage (not to MMC) ✔️ Virgin heroine ✔️ Protective hero ✔️ Touch her & die Vibes ✔️ Single dad
Ashlee has done it again. Why am I so surprised at this point after I have loved her EVERY book I don't even know myself. This book sure as heck took me on a rollercoaster ride of every emotion possible while reading it. Ashlee is basicaly known to do that in her every book, so if you haven't read any of her boooks just be prepaired.
Overall, if you are in need of a story full of banter, steam, forbidden love, age gap (and a lot more), then this book is perfect for you.
Also while you are at it, do youself a favour and read 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘩𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘦𝘸𝘦𝘥 𝘮𝘦 and also 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯 (Book 1 in this series) before this book, BUT also add 𝘚𝘢𝘷𝘢𝘨𝘦 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 to the list so you can get a better understanding of the background story of the characters.
Wow what another fantastic read it has age gap, body guard and forbidden romance.
I enjoyed reading more of xavier and royal and their daughter. Amora is fierery and speaks her mind so once she found out what her father did and she was furious and let him know about it. She just wanted a life of her own choosing to do what she wants to do. Titus is a man who loved his family however once the mother of their child left he did everything he could to provide for her. He took a job to protect a women who he originally thought was 18 turned out he was tricked and she was actually a bit older. From the first moment they met he felt a connection he had not felt in years. This connection grew the more they spent time together and eventually they fallen in love with each other. There was a few twists and turns along the way but they finally got their happy ending. I'm still shocked reading the ending, titus's daughter is not the angel and daddies little girl everyone thinks she is. I look forward to reading her story as well as reading more of Titus and Amora.
the more prominent loathing happening here is mine. i swear to you, this book was a waste of my time.
It was melodramatic af. Most of the chapters don’t have anything happening in them just one of the two MCs going “we’ll be together in another life”. my god, i got IT.
plus, what is this couple? where’s the love? all i see is attraction and love at first sight.
are you in love or is he just your bodyguard? Amora should’ve asked herself this.
Also, what in the absolute hell was the plot????
they bring disfunction family dynamics to a whole new level, i’ll tell you that. what kind of f cked up dad gives away her daughter???
and why are we still on this narrative that daughters are to be given away? i’m so over FMC being depicted as “innocent and embodiment of light” just because they’re virgin.
Virginity it’s not a value okay?
Honestly, just save yourself time and frustration bc this was not it.
The 4.33 ish star reviews is why i have trust issues.
The story centers around Amora, a woman who finds herself trapped in her own life. Because of her father, she needs protection, and Titus King is the man who will act as her bodyguard.
The chemistry between Amora and Titus is palpable, and I love the slow burn in this book. Amora and Titus’ story is both sweet and spicy and I love the characters in this book, Amora is a fierce FMC and Titus is this hot, protective badass, but he has a soft side to him. There’s just something about nicknames. every time he calls her Twilight, I just melt.
You will feel all the feels with this book. It’s an emotional roller coaster. I was at the edge of my seat at times.
Tropes:
🔥Age gap
🔥Body guard
🔥Arranged marriage (not to MMC)
🔥Virgin heroine
🔥Protective hero
🔥Touch her and die vibes
🔥Single dad
Thank you so much Ashlee for this ARC in exchange for an honest review❤️
Absolutely loved this book. I knew it was going to suck me in right from the start! Amora and Titus were just everything. The connection between them was so intense. I loved the nicknames too.
It was also great to see more of Royal and Xavier, although I really wasn’t keen of Xavier in this book. There was also appearances of a few others from Ashlee’s other books which I loved.
Things got very tense near the end and I was on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen.
I love Ashlee’s books and the way she writes her characters. I think Amora and Titus may be my new favourite couple.
Looking forward to the next book in this series. Thank you to Ashlee for my ARC in exchange for an honest review.
