Pages of Promise

When Eliza's life is threatened, she turns to a handsome veteran for help.

I left everything I'd ever known behind. And that decision may cost me my life.

The moving truck hadn't even been unpacked when my fresh start went up in flames.

A frightening letter left in my mailbox and signed Always Yours sends me running to the only man in town who can help me.

Driven by his protective nature and a mission he believes comes from God, ex-Army Ranger Lance Knight agrees, despite the fact that I've made it no secret I want nothing to do with him--or anyone for that matter.

The longer we're together, the more I begin to realize that Lance is more than I gave him credit for. Something that troubles me nearly as much as the fact that an unknown man seems to have already claimed me as his.

Trouble is, my admirer has a jealous side, and it's not long before Lance is pulled into the crosshairs right alongside me…

Those who like psychological thrillers with that have Christian elements would absolutely love this author. When I thought things were over, it fooled me because there were so many twists and turns in this book that it will keep you guessing till the end. It was an amazing book very real Definitely demonstrated the love of Christ and it is very rare to find a true psychological thriller that is Christian fiction so thought that I would mention this for people that wanna read it.

When I started reading Pages of Promise, I soon realized that I didn’t want to set it down! This is the first book that I have read by this author and now I am looking forward to reading the future books in this series.

The two main characters had what you might call a “meet hate”. Although, as the reader, you know that Lance is an honorable and good man, Eliza takes an instant dislike to him. As a formerly abused wife, she does not trust men at all. And she does not like that something draws her to Lance. So she pushes back against having anything to do with him as much as she can.

Yet, trouble has followed her to this small town in a big way. The author did a really good job of creating overwhelming and dangerous circumstances for Eliza, Lance, and Lance’s security team. I was kept guessing as the book progressed, wondering who could be so enamored with Eliza and able to cause so much trouble.

The attraction between Lance and Eliza grew in a natural way, once Eliza learned to trust Lance. They were really good together and made me want everything to work out for them. I devoured this story and am excited to read future books in this series.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

SO. GOOD!
I feel like this is one of the best portrayals I’ve seen of a woman coming out of an abusive relationship and being so wary of others. She did her research, she knew what was going to be happening in her move and she was ready and prepared-until her plan didn’t happen as she envisioned and her walls were reinforced. Once I finished the book, I could look back and see that she was doing all she could to keep going.
I loved seeing Lance be so open about his faith. THIS is the goal: a man who loves the Lord and wants to push you towards the Lord and encourage you in your relationship with Him.
And the fact that that fed into the slow burn!
I could not stop reading. I had to know what was going to happen next every step of the way! The twist, the turns.

3.5 stars. "When the darkness settles in and we're stuck in the worst moments of our lives, that pain gives us a chance to remember that this isn't our final home. We're meant for somewhere perfect. Somewhere there is no pain, no hurt. Honestly, it's in those times I lean on Him the most. I pray for guidance. For understanding."

Eliza just moved to a small town called Hope Springs, after leaving an abusive ex husband and pretty much losing everything in the divorce. She’s wanting a fresh start but doesn’t trust men at all- especially ones who seem nice because her ex started that way and ended up being verbally and physically abusive. She moves into an old lighthouse and needs some things fixed. A man named Lance comes to help install a water heater and she immediately doesn’t trust him, even if he is super handsome and kind. He feels a calling to help her and isn’t sure why. Lance is a retired army veteran and has been dealing with PTSD. Eliza discovers someone is talking her and threatening her and trying to kill her/people she knows. Lance is determined to keep her safe and find out who is behind it. It’s a race against time to find out who is doing this.

Review: This was a quick read for me and kept my interest. This was a grumpy sunshine trope in my opinion but it was Eliza who was grumpy and untrusting toward Lance while he was more lighthearted and trusting. This is definitely set in a cookie cutter hallmark town that I always wonder if ever exists/wish it did. How is there such a nice hot kind SINGLE man in this small town just living and working there? I liked how this book had a little spice to it even though it is a Christian book. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I appreciated the spurts of faith/God mixed in with everything else going on. It had a nice mystery element to it and a good twist. I got a little annoyed at how rude I felt Eliza was being to Lance even after he proved time and again he isn’t a bad guy, but then again I haven’t been in an abusive relationship so maybe it is like that. I also felt like Lance fell SUPER quickly in love with Eliza even when she wasn’t nice to him. I felt like we needed a little more time and build up. Overall I liked this book and I liked how it questioned why bad things happen in life and how even though they do, you have to keep the faith. I’m excited about the next book which focuses on one of Lance’s army friends/workers

kinda scary for a romance

I’ve read Jessica’s works for a few years now. I love this world she is creating. It was fun and romantic and Christian. It was also a little scary and very real as someone who has been stalked before. Glad I read it and look forward to more!

Ok. This wasn’t quite the hallmark movie I was predicting in my head, so I give it credit for some thrilling moments. 4 stars because of some of the cheesy dialogue… and for Lance saying that caring for and protecting Eliza was even more important and scary than his service in the military. Pbbt! Really, guy? I don’t underestimate the seriousness of the situation or his affection for her but I do doubt that it was truly more scary than his time IN WAR. That’s not to say that protecting her isn’t as important, it is, but it isn’t more important. It’s the same level of fighting for people and protecting them, just more focused on a single person instead of on a global, wartime scale. That felt like a romance pander, which is cool, considering the novel it was said in. But honestly, that comment didn’t seem very real life to me. Just a puffy, romantic statement. Other than that, (and some predictability for the villain), it was a solid 4 star book. Fun romance read! And clean!!! THANKYOU for including God and uplifting his name.

Eliza's carefully constructed walls crumble around her like the cliffs overlooking her new lighthouse home in Hope Springs. Fleeing the wreckage of her past, she seeks solace in solitude, only to find herself ensnared in a web of unsettling threats and cryptic warnings. Enter Lance, a former military man with a quiet strength and unwavering faith that Eliza finds infuriatingly irresistible.

This novel isn't your typical happily-ever-after romance. It's a raw, unflinching exploration of trauma, suspicion, and the slow, delicate dance of rebuilding trust. Jessica Ashley masterfully weaves suspense and faith into a tapestry rich with emotional depth. Eliza's journey is one of confronting inner demons and learning to accept help, not as surrender, but as a lifeline.

The mystery keeps you guessing until the very end, with twists and turns that will leave you breathless. Each seemingly innocuous character holds a secret, and the line between friend and foe blurs with every chilling encounter. The small-town setting becomes a living, breathing entity, its quaint charm juxtaposed against the ever-present shadows of danger.

Lance's faith acted as both compass and compass point, drawing him closer to Eliza while urging him to seek wisdom from Almighty God. “The feeling in my chest,” he confessed, “is stronger than I've ever felt.” Yet, doubt lingered, whispering, “And just what does God have planned for me in regard to this beautiful stranger?” Despite the answered questions, his resolve remained steadfast, anchored in the belief that God would certainly reveal His purpose in due time.

At the heart of the story, a beacon of hope flickers amidst the shadows, fueled by Lance's unwavering faith and Eliza's gradual return to her own. Through his quiet devotion, Eliza discovers a profound faith she never imagined, finding in their shared journey not just love, but also a path towards healing and resilience.

I finished Pages of Promises with a deep sense of satisfaction, the characters and their struggles lingering in my mind long after I closed the book. If you're seeking a book that will grip your heart, tickle your brain, and leave you with a renewed sense of hope, look no further. Intrigue and inspiration shimmer within the pages of Promises, inviting you on a journey where hope flickers amidst shadows, resilience rebuilds shattered walls, and love's gentle touch transforms hearts.

I received an eARC of Pages of Promise from the author, Jessica Ashley, and JustRead Publicity Tour. I am not required to write a positive review nor paid to do so. This is my honest and unbiased review. My thoughts and opinions expressed in this book review are my own. My review focuses on this story’s excellent content, ensuring transparency and reliability.

Pages of Promise by Jessica Ashley is book one in the Coastal Hope series. Recently divorced Eliza has moved to the small town of Hope Springs wishing for a new start. Little does she know what awaits her there. On her own after a marriage of dominion and abuse, Eliza is taken aback by the friendliness of the townspeople, especially Lance Knight whose kindness is rejected by her.

A threatening letter arrives and a new nightmare starts for Eliza. As she tries to settle into her new home, she is unaware of the danger that lurks within. Soon, a "stalker" begins wandering through her home, his advances quickly turning violent. Thankfully, Lance and his Army Ranger buddies are there to protect her and make her home safe. However, Eliza's past experiences with men have left her angry and bitter, causing her to direct her pent-up emotions towards Lance. Despite this, the small-town community does its best to welcome Eliza with open arms. But as she spends more time with Lance - who believes it is God's will for him to watch over her - the stalker becomes increasingly jealous and resorts to violence once again. With the help of her new Ranger friends, Eliza must navigate the dangerous situation and stay safe from her relentless stalker's deadly intentions.

The characters in this novel are well-written and relatable, adding depth to the story as we see how each one copes with their own individual struggles while trying to solve this mystery. A simmering romance, heart-stopping action scenes, and a powerful faith journey for Eliza make this a must-read novel. With an exciting reveal at the end, the reading experience will keep you attentive and satisfied with the outcome. I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

“I learned at a very young age the worst monsters don’t hide in the shadows. No, that would be too predictable. Instead, they like to live in the spotlight. No one expects them to be there. Makes preying on the weak entirely too easy because they don’t see it coming.”

I absolutely LOVED this book. Many Romantic suspense books have just enough suspense to have their book considered suspense…not Pages of Promises. Every time I’d catch my breath from a close call—another one was pouring in.

Lance’s faithfulness was inspiring. How he knew God had set Eliza on his path for a reason, didn’t understand why, but remained faithful even in the confusion and sometimes irritation. She was very much set in her ways—understandably so. But the slow build and burn of their romance was so satisfying!

There were some serious twists and turns that kept me at the edge of my seat and I loved seeing Eliza’s relationship with God develop over time. A phrase Lance repeated was “God never fails us, people do” which was exactly Eliza needed to hear and did come to understand over the course of the book.

I loved the small-town feel and how their banding together showed Eliza that not everyone is looking to take something from you. Some people help you just because they want to and follow God’s direction.

Eliza has been living a nightmare when married to her ex-husband. She suffered all kinds of abuses. Now she is free for the first time in her life.
Lance is an ex-Army Ranger. He still has nightmares about his last deployment. Now he owns a private security firm with some of his teammates.
I didn’t like Eliza at the beginning because she was very mean towards Lance, but I understood her after all the bad experiences in her life. I loved Lance and his friends.
The book is well-written, and the mystery and suspense kept me reading until I finished the book. My favourite sentence is “Good doesn’t let you down. People do.”
I highly recommend this book if you like Christian romantic suspense.

I wanted to love this book, but I didn't.
The insta love of literally a week and a half was too much. For security being his entire business, he didn't seem very good at it (or any of his guys, honestly). I felt there was too much set up and introduction of characters of maybe future books that wasn't necessary. The escalation of the antagonist was too fast and everything was way too convenient. She picked a place on a map essentially and then suddenly trouble? I didn't buy in.

Pros: easy, quick read. I read it in a day and a half. Some of the descriptions were awesome, I underlined some quotes I enjoyed!
Her life wasn't magically better when she started coming back to her faith, which honestly is my biggest pet peeve of Christian books, so I'm glad she was still working on it. I'll try another from this author just to see if it improves. I want to enjoy a well-rounded Christian romance!

Wonderful:
This was a fabulous small town, romantic suspense novel. I really enjoyed the mystery and suspense which kept me on the edge of my seat and frantically turning pages to find out what was going to happen next. There were layers to the plot and an excellent balance between action and dialogue.
Eliza and Lance made a wonderful couple and I grew very fond of them. The tension between these two was high until Eliza finally lowered her guard and admitted that she needed not only Lance's help but his companionship too. I enjoyed seeing their personal growth and thought the Christian message was really well done too. I can't wait to continue on with the rest of the series.

Pages of Promise was the first book I have read by Ms. Ashley and I loved it. I had a hard time putting it down!

She is running away from a bad situation and trusts no one. He is a great guy just trying to help. She takes an instant dislike to him, and he doesn't understand why, despite her prickly feelings, he is drawn to her.

The ins and outs and twists and turns are excellent, and the faith both of them require to keep moving forward is inspirational. He hears, listens, and is persistent, but she has to learn to trust again.

I loved it and look forward to more in this series and others by Jessica Ashley!

I really enjoyed Pages of Promise. It has action and suspense that had me biting my nails. It has love and romance that is endearing and heartwarmingly pure. It takes place in a small town, which is my favorite setting. It has a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. It has the beautiful message of faith and God’s love and presence in our lives without being “preachy” or sounding like awkward or unrealistic conversation. And it all ends with a non-cliche HEA.
As a thriller/cozy mystery reader, I probably never would have picked up this book on my own but I am so glad that I signed up for this book tour and discovered this fabulous author and genre.

An excellent start a fun new romantic suspense series. I really enjoyed the storyline of this one. If you are a fan of Christy Barritt’s Lantern Beach series, then you will love this one. It kept me guessing and had a couple twists I did not see coming. Can’t wait for the next in the series. Luckily I have an ARC of it and can read it this weekend!

This was a nice easy to read book. My biggest complaint as the setting is off the cost of Maine, very rarely do we see a thunderstorm in winter. In February there’s most often snow storms and ice. I know, I know, the weather shouldn’t brother me 🫣

This is my first Jessica Ashley book, but it definitely won’t be my last! I really enjoyed this story. The suspense was top-notch, and Lance was such a strong, admirable male character. It took me a bit longer to warm up to Eliza, but once her heartbreaking past was revealed, her behavior toward Lance made perfect sense. I loved the small-town setting of Hope Springs and getting to know its charming residents. The faith thread was beautifully woven throughout—I especially appreciated how naturally Lance trusted the Lord and without hesitation. The mystery kept me guessing—I had no idea who the villain was or how he was managing to pull everything off.

This is the first book I’ve read in the Coastal Hope series, and I’ve already downloaded Searching for Peace, which is Elijah’s story!

When I wasn’t reading Pages of Promise, I found myself thinking about the story and itching to get back to it. That’s always a good sign!

I purchased this book myself, and all opinions are my own. The faith thread is medium. 5 stars!

This was such a fast-paced Christian fiction! I was hooked from the very beginning when our main character, Eliza, moves into a lighthouse in a small town to start fresh after a nasty divorce. I honestly didn’t realize this was going to be a thriller until it started taking twists and turns that had my heart racing. The slow burn, enemies to lovers romance was so satisfying! I loved Lance. He exemplifies what a man of God should be. The Christian theme woven throughout had me in tears at several points. Overall, I really enjoyed this! Can’t wait to read more of the Coastal Hope series!

At first I wasn’t gonna read it cause it has a man on the cover, well i mean I don’t know if I was gonna read it cause most books with men on the cover are spicy but this book is a christian book and one of my cousins (who is an adult. she wouldn’t recommend a spicy book to me.) recommended it to me. I have to say I loved it. I hated Randall but I loved Lance. His name is kinda funny. Lance Knight. But anyways he a great guy and he helps Eliza heal. I love their first kissss it was soooo cute.

🛑SPOILER!!!🛑

I mean, she’s talking about the guy whos stalking her and how he treatened to kill lance and all and lance said “well he didn’t kill you.” and she says “Maybe he should have” then she spurts out a bunch of stuff about how lance has almost died protecting her then he angry kisses her!!! When they pull away hes like “dont you ever talk about leaving this earth ever again.” its so stinking cute
