It’s hard enough being the only human on this alien planet with no memory of how I got here. I have no business being imprisoned by a military Captain. But here I am, handcuffed for weeks to a brooding, powerful warrior that’s convinced I’m a spy. I’ve been a servant at the Captain’s camp for months—cooking, cleaning, and living peacefully. When his tent catches fire, and I’m accused of spying, I’m taken as his prisoner. I don’t know how I’ll survive eating, bathing, and sharing a bed with the intense man for weeks. If the war raging across the planet doesn’t kill me, the building tension between the Captain and me will do the trick.
Elaine Waters can be so witty and her characters are hilarious when she wants them to be. That’s what I loved about the one other book I’ve read by this author—The Alien's Match. This book has a much more angsty hurt/comfort vibe than The Alien’s Match, but it still has glimpses of those funny moments too. Like the other book, this is a fastburn romance with great banter and whole lot of spice.
The premise is really cool; I’ve never come across something like this in the alien romance I’ve read. Aria, the human heroine, just woke up on an alien planet, Zolan, several years before the start of the book with no one with her and no memory of how she traveled there. In fact, all her memories of her previous Earth life are fuzzy. But she makes the best out of a weird situation and builds a life as the only human on a planet of aliens.
The worldbuilding is fun, too. The planet Zolan is being torn up by a civil war instigated because of a strange invasive plant that’s been destroying the ecology of some regions and driving the people there to invade other regions. So, the people of Zolan organize themselves into war camps consisting of soldiers and workers who come to “service” the soldiers. These alien soldiers apparently fight best when they enter a kind of higher state of fury and violence brought on by…sex. (Of course. What else? You should be expecting this just by the genre.)
Aria joins one of these camps as a cook and runs afoul of the leader, Captain Killan. He suspects her of being an alien spy and promptly handcuffs them together so she can’t get up to whatever nefarious things he thinks she’s got planned.
Here’s where the story starts to make zero sense. First off, if you really think she’s a spy, why would you handcuff the two of you together? Because now he has to bring her with him everywhere, meaning she now knows everything about the operation of the camp. Why not just lock her up??
But pretty much immediately, Killan admits to himself that he doesn’t really think she’s a spy—Aria’s nowhere near organized enough to make that happen. He’s just keeping an eye on her to do his due diligence, I guess. Which, again…what? Why are you doing that? Don’t you have a camp to run and a war to win?
Being handcuffed to another person makes his life infinitely more difficult. Especially when he starts to fall in love with her, even though he doesn’t want to fall in love and thinks it won’t ever work out. (This is another thing that isn’t really explained—why can’t they fall in love? We aren’t given a reason.) Rather than just undoing the cuffs and letting her go, or locking her up away from him, Killan goes as far as to take drugs that will make him incapable of feeling emotion (!!) so that he’ll stop falling for her. What?!?!?! Just take some time away from her!!! Nobody’s making you stay cuffed to her!
So basically I think the author just wanted to put the two main characters in forced close proximity and threw in the handcuff plot for that reason, even if it made no sense in context. Which honestly, is not that big a deal to me, since the rest of the book really held up. I don’t generally read standalone romances for the plot anyway.
All in all I’d give it 3.5 stars.
Pros: - Funny MCs - Unique premise - High in spice - Good worldbuilding
Stars: 4 FMC: A’ria MMC(s): Kill’an Tropes: Forced proximity > Reviewer add: Abduction, Third act split, war, violence, sex positivity. Perspective: Dual, first Plot or character driven: Both Spicy scenes breakdown: > Present? Yes. > Detailed? Yes. > Multiple, with only one character? No. > Multiple, with both/multiple characters? Yes > Personal favorite? > State of the joystick? He has two. > Anything else to note? Burn speed: Fast Can this be read as a stand-alone: Re-Readability: Yes, this was a fairly easy read. Content/Trigger Warnings/Enticements: Memory loss.
I received an advanced reader copy of this book, and this is my voluntary, honest review.
A’ria finds herself on a new planet (Zolan) with no memories. An old woman (Kinno) who runs a lot of cons takes her in and A’ria eventually decides she wants to move into one of the war camps as a cook. And then she slaps the Captain of the camp and all her plans go to hell.
I liked this, however, at about the halfway point, it felt like the author was giving the couple struggles in order to maintain some tension between the MMC and FMC, which I was not a fan of. However, I’m looking forward to seeing future works from her, and to see how the world continues in the future.
This was an enjoyable read, however, Kill’an might be an idiot. He’s still fun though.
Well, that was packed with lots going on, wow!! Great with new bits & more imagination, I quite like “Rainbow” the poisonous bird that’s a bit mischievous but a great friend to A’ria🐦🔥 Very much loved how passionate Kill’an is about A’ria❤️🔥 (was a lil’boring in the beginning, but definitely got more interesting)
There are a few nifty sayings in here too: “She brings chaos to my veins. She disorients me. I can’t control this wild shooting star.”💫 🪶“The woman could sell feathers to birds” (re: Kinno )🪶😆😆
📚 I think is a series?!: Rider King then The General, not sure if others???📚
Follow Aria, a human that doesn't remember much of her past and how she ended up on Zolan, work her way through life on a foreign planet in hopes of regaining her lost memories.
Aria ends up working in one of the war camps to help serve the masters while they fight this current war against a blue flower that is destroying the planet and it's people. She respects the Zolan way of life and gains friends with some of the entertainers. Entertainers are this special group of women are in the camps, willingly, to serve the masters by bending at the waist and presenting their bodies for use. To help the masters become enraged for battle. Best part? The males of Zolan have not one, but two bobbing bits of goodness between their thighs. (All this talk of aliens being real and this book will have you making a sign, hahaha)
So, Aria while trying to cover for a friend ends up slapping the Captain, the leader of the camp, and then is accused of setting his tent on fire and stealing from him. So, she is handcuffed to the Captain for an extended period of time and this leaves her hot and bothered all the time. She isn't the only one left aching though. Will they be able to overcome their differences? Will they find their HEA? There is so much adventure in this book and some hilarious characters.
I laughed so much at the antics between these two. Lots of this cannot happen. I cannot feel this for him/her. Rejected feelings and a lot of sexual tension. There is a constant build up and of course drama.
If you are interested in otherworldly beings, on page spicy scenes, adventure, drama, angst, and a HEA between the main characters, this is your book.

This is a story about finding love and passion in the one place you least expected it. It’s about how you can’t deny what you want. The two characters A’ria and Kill’an keep getting drawn to each other, and boy do they find themselves in some spicy situations. The slow burn tension in this book makes it impossible to put down.
Not only does The Captain make me blush, it makes me laugh. A’ria is consistently making hilarious mistakes that bring her into the sights of the sexy alien Captain Kill’an. And the only way to make sure she stays in line, he must keep her in his sight at all time.
Recommendation for this book is 11 out of 10. And if you liked this one like me, make sure to check out The General. Sexy aliens are my cup of tea.
GATHER ROUND. Elaine has sent our hearts to another planet again! This time it’s safe with a big red alien with a hard exterior, but soft and mushy for our girl A’ria. She woke up on a new planet with no memories, but she’s continuously finding new things to do and places to see. When she winds up at at military camp to work, she gets more than she bargains for when she gets into trouble.. like twice as much more 🫣 The characters were interesting, witty, hot 🥵 and Kinno was hilariously shameless. As always, Elaine created such a beautiful new world full of adventure making us feel like we get to experience a little bit of it! Can’t wait for the next Captain’s story!
Wonderful story telling as usual and ever the spicy content, but with a slower burn this time, but no less enjoyable. The King seems to still be in the works but I love the little memo near the end that gives some insight to it. It explains why that world seems so different, yet the same. I love all the mysteries that have been uncovered in this tale, and can't wait to read more.
I really enjoyed this book. The Captain was a fuzzy teddy bear draped in danger and mystery until the little human walked into his camp! The book has some interesting characters, great world building and a lot of steam. I mean a lot of steam! It doesn’t take away from the story but there are scenes that had me fanning myself!
DNF 25% - I could not get over all the unlikeliness in this book. Over and over again, too many things felt too weirdly unlikely. Yes, it’s another planet but when you have “aliens” that act almost exactly like humans then the unlikely doesn’t work. I really liked the premise. I really wanted to like this. But ultimately it wasn’t for me.
I used to read this on Wattpad and I honestly pretty like it, it’s a nice fantasy book to read if you like an easy story with a hot bulky man with two … you can guess the rest.
Absolutely inhaled this book. Great characters, interesting plo/ premise and loved the world building though most of it was within the camp so v limited.
I didnt give it 5 stars because the world development was minimal outside of the camp and I really wanted more about the Queen, wars camp and his problems, and overall just more about the planet.
Maybe I missed it but it never explained how aria learnt the language, her initial arrival and adjustments etc.
Also you can have too much of a good thing, every sex scene was pages of the captain giving oral sex, it got boring by the end as it was the same each time. He's got two cocks and you concentrate on oral sex? What the ever loving fuck! He uses both once at the very end of the book. Criminal!!! I also found the description of aria giving him a blow job with both cocks in her mouth ridiculous esp given his supposed girth! The sex lost a full star.
Notwithstanding it was a fabulous book. Now to work out which one's next, and as there's no series numbers that will be a waste of 30 minutes, sigh make it easy for your readers to read your books ffs.
I was hooked, from the first sentence right through till the end. I loved the character development, and I am completely in love with Kill’an and his grumpy, possessive mannerisms. The book left me smiling and frowning and groaning. I nearly died when I thought A’ria wouldn’t consider taking Kill’an back, even though, what he had done was horrible. This book was such an enticing read. I will most certainly keep replaying the book in my head for days to come.
My only wish was that I could read how Kill’an slaughters Jeylorr to protect his star, but I suppose that was not part of their story.
Well done. Elaine is, and always will be one of my favourite romance authors. Her books have a way of making me swoon and wish I could find a way to teleport to an alien planet I have no business being on.
I haven’t read something this captivating in a while. It kept me going back for more and more and more.
A sizzling read that won't leave you disappointed! A tale full of passion, fevered dreams and a complicated relationship. Aria is easily one of my favorite characters. She's loud, proud, and not afraid to speak her mind. Kill'an is the swoon worthy, hardheaded warrior of every girls dreams. The chemistry between them is undeniable. A bit of a slow burn to start but oh baby when it's on, it's ON. All I wanted was for these two to get together, but mysterious forces are determined to keep them apart. Will A'ria and Kill'ans unrequited love stand the test of time? Or will they succumb to the chaos of betrayal and secrets. This book is an adventure you don't want to miss! The 🌶️ scenes literally jump out of the pages. The world of Zolan is full of endearing characters and exciting history. 10/10. Elaine you've done it again! ❤️❤️❤️
The General has been one of my favorites for a long time. I have seen this tale from the beginning and just love the world building. There is definitely spice for those searching, but it’s delivered within a series that keeps you coming back for where the story takes you.
When I say all of her books are hits, I mean they are hits! I’ve purchased the Captains, read the other books on Wattpad and her website. I hope she gets the opportunity to publish more stories so she can get the love and recognition she deserves.
Elaine Waters introduced me to science fiction romances and I’ve never looked back since. Thank you!
Elaine Waters is one of my favorite authors on Wattpad, and I've especially adored the Zolan books. I've already read all of the ones available for free on Wattpad, so I was excited to find this one on Kindle Unlimited. Unfortunately, I just didn't find this story to be nearly as engaging or exciting as her other books. I'm still a big fan, but this one just didn't hit like the others.
This is such a great story in there series that has been written. I will I have read this and the other story's online mutipule times. I am so happy to see these being added here.
This story was amazing. I loved every moment of it, I don't know how you do it but it's just beautiful. I love that Joan and War are there, they are adorable. If you love Aliens and spicy romance this book is definitely something for you 😍💕 ps: I am salvatoreXnewtmas from Wattpad ❤️
I like this book it was nice and funny. The end started dragged and it starting sounding a little silly at the end. I didn’t really like the god falling in love with the MC that was a little to much but overall great book.
I love it. It made laugh in the middle of night that I woke up everyone. I usually read at night to fall asleep but this book is addicting and it made me smile. Thank you!!!
This was a good read, I enjoyed A’ria and Killian together😍. Their love story was good, it wasn’t too rushed and it felt very real. Also being able to see War and Joan make appearances was refreshing💗.
