Forever Flying: Fifty Years of High-flying Adventures, From Barnstorming in Prop Planes to Dogfighting Germans to Testing Supersonic Jets, An Autobiography
Barnstormer, Second World War fighter pilot, pioneering test pilot, aerobatic genius — Bob Hoover was a true American hero. Now, in 'Forever Flying', he tells his amazing story, sharing all the thrills and chills, spectacular stunts and death-defying exploits that have made him a living aviation legend.
Bob Hoover was a United States Army Air Forces fighter pilot, USAF and civilian test pilot, flight instructor, air show pilot, and aviation record-setter.
Known as the "pilot's pilot", Hoover revolutionized modern aerobatic flying and has been referred to in many aviation circles as one of the greatest pilots ever to have lived.
I've always thought Bob Hoover was an amazing person. An aviator without equal and an innovator in all aspects of aircraft development. This book cements that notion in my head and then goes on to fill out much of the detail that I would otherwise never have known. Told like a series of "tall tales", I can only say that the man's incredible abilities make it all clear and do not in the least strain credibility.
For anyone who is interested in flyers and aviation history, this is a "MUST READ" book. I have always heard the names Charles Lindbergh, Chuck Yeager, Jimmy Doolittle, etc, but I never heard of Bob Hoover! Bob Hoover, is a pilot who has done it all and then some. He was a most amazing man, who lived an incredible life.
Wow ... what an incredible aviator Bob Hoover was! To be fair ... if you are not a history of aviation buff this book might not appeal to you since there is a lot of terminology related to aircraft performance. But wow he interacted with almost every major aviator from the 1930s on.
