When I came home, I thought I could avoid him. I thought wrong.
I’ve managed to avoid him for years. I ran away to school with no plans to return. Until forced to.
He’s different now. Long hair, tattoos, muscles. Undercover in the town we both grew up in. Finding him here was not on my agenda, but what he does seals our fates and forces us together in a fight for our lives.
But I’m different, too. Tired, jaded, bitter. Weighed down by responsibilities that never should have been mine. I’m not a lovesick and broken-hearted teenager anymore. He can’t hurt me again. Can he?
Our mistakes cost us years, and his actions now have drawn us into a world of secrets, lies, and threats that pull us closer to each other and closer to the truth of my past.
He’s finding his way back in. His words sweet. His arms comforting. His skills lethal.
If we survive, it will change everything,
Author's Love Comes Home is a best friend's brother, second chance, romantic suspense with plenty of steam. No closed doors here.
This was good. I'm so used to reading about assholes that I forgot what a good man looks like in my fictional mind 😂. Davis was hot, and Trish was cool. Slightly whiney at first, but took no shit. We've got everything here. MC, undercover FBI agent, crime, thriller, small town, the works. Side characters were awesome as well. Definitely recommend if you're looking for something cute and fun with a slight twist.
You know when you find a book you don’t want to put down; I’m adding this to the list. Don’t get me wrong, I could have put it down, however… there’s something about motorcycles and the FBI that always does it for me. The dynamic between Trish and Davis, the love they shared from a young age, swoon-worthy. I get chills listening to the deep voice I imagine he has when he calls her Sugar.
I loved this book and the world that is being built. This is more than a straight romantic suspense. There’s some mystery and suspense, a motorcycle club, a FBI investigation, found family and characters working through their past and future.
Trish’s life plans came to a screeching halt when her mother suddenly died and she was left to raise her 3 younger siblings. Davis is an FBI agent currently undercover in a local motorcycle club and reevaluating his life.
Trish and Davis have history and they are thrown back together which leads to them discovering secrets and needing to work together for the answers that will save them both and set them free. They are very sweet and supportive of each other. I loved how dependable David was and how Trish found her confidence. I was kept guessing with how the story was going to go. I loved how it all wrapped up!
There are many wonderful secondary characters in this book from Trish’s friends, Davis’s friends at the motorcycle club and the kids. I can’t wait for more stories set in the Boulder Canyon world.
*ARC Review* Overall I thought this book had a solid plot with unexpected twists. The small town setting made the entire book feel more realistic; even given the storyline that takes place throughout. Davis is like the good-looking hometown hero - but undercover for the FBI. Trish is the once innocent school girl who the world had savagely tortured. Of course you already know who her hero is 😉.
Things that I loved: *Thriller/crime Romance *Sweet, strong, and independent FMC *Multi-character perspectives *Small-town romance with relatable characters
Things I wish were different: *I wish Martha's journal entries were dated versus being numbered as entry numbers.
I would read the next book in the series just to see Lottie's story, and maybe some updates on Davis/Trish.
What a story! This book hit all the feels from love at first sight, to loss of freedom, to daddy issues, to holy scary crap! The love shown from Trish for her siblings hit home so hard for me! She is one bad ass woman!
I’m glad Davis & Trish got their happy ending. This book made me go through a lot of feelings. Joker was my favorite character in this book. This book had a really great plot and a lot of twists.
I first read the Briar Mountain series by CM Smith and then realized I needed to go back and read the Boulder Canyon series because I need more of her books.
The fact that CM Smith is able to put some mystery and suspense, a motorcycle club, an FBI investigation, found family and characters working through their lives along with sprinkling in people finding their one is the best.
Trish is left raising her three younger siblings after her mom unexpectedly dies. Davis is working for the FBI in an undercover capacity with a local motorcycle gang, but he's found himself reevaluating his life.
Both of the main characters know each other from their past, and they are thrown back together. This leads them to working together to discover secrets along with answers to save them and set them free from their pasts.
I've found I can never get enough of her books and her stories leave me wanting more. I cannot wait to pick up the second book in this series.
Riveting, I couldn't put this book down. Great plot. Keeps you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. I didn't want it to end and was sad when it did.
Davis and Trish are two characters that will be hard to forget. They demanded my attention, tugged at my heart strings, and made me laugh, cry, sigh and finally smile that big beaming grin that hurts one’s face. They have loved each other for years though they never admitted it to each other or even acted as anything other than friends. An incident when Davis was in college and Trish had come to visit him with his sister ended everything between them. She quite literally disappeared from his life. He never knew what happened and when did try to find her, his sister told him to leave it alone.
Now years later, Trish and Davis meet again. She is definitely hostile, angry and eager to keep her distance from him. Unfortunately, she walked into a bar where he bartends that is frequented by a motorcycle club. He ends up claiming her as his girl in order to protect her from a member of another MC. Davis, an undercover FBI agent can’t let Trish blow his investigation into the MC and its dealings, but he also won’t let her go unprotected. In order to protect her and her siblings who are now in her care after the death of their mother, he must get her to agree to act as his girlfriend. Trish is feisty, independent and used to having to do everything on her own. She is fiercely protective of her siblings, won’t back down from a fight and struggling to keep her family together in a house that desperately needs repair. Trish also has good reason to loathe Davis and to never trust him again. As their story continues, secrets are revealed, life gets more dangerous and chaotic while these two finally get a chance to reveal the love they have carried for each for so long. Will they get a chance at a happily ever after?
The secondary characters, his MC allies and her siblings, certainly add some hilarity and drama to this compelling book. Those big, gruff and growly bikers have big hearts and are super protective of Trish and her siblings. Her siblings melt hearts and provide lots of hilarious moments. This book was a fantastic read that I know I will be reading over and over again.
Love Comes Home by CM Smith may be the first of her books I’ve read, but it most definitely will not be the last. Smith pulled me in from the very start, and I quickly fell for Trish and Davis. Their second chance romance is certainly put to the test, but surrounded by a cast of equally well-developed characters, their story comes to life and absolutely grips your heart.
Smith builds in a solid foundation of suspense that carries throughout the story and will keep readers flipping pages. Excellent pacing and well balanced levels of humor, heart, and heat, with a healthy level of righteous indignation, bring the plot and characters to life. And, oh, yeah, you’re definitely going to enjoy the plot twist. It is definitely one of those slam-the-kindle-cover-shut, whoa! moments. A moment that definitely had me diving back in immediately. And canceling the rest of my afternoon plans.
The layers of emotional impact Smith builds along the way only increase a reader's interest and attachment to her characters, creating a solid investment in their HEA. I was rooting for the main characters from the get go. They’re deeply developed, emotionally attachable, and very sympathetic.
Smith also beautifully incorporates supporting characters who are relatable, loveable, and advance the plot while making you fall for them too. Oh, yeah, and a big bad you'll want to introduce to a wood chipper. After the journey Trish and Davis have had to get their second chance, that external conflict is the perfect catalyst to help them resolve their internal conflict as well.
While Love Comes Home is billed as a series starter, it is absolutely a standalone story. And while Smith includes little tidbits from her prior books in the Briar Mountain series, those only make me want to binge those books as well.
I received this book as part of an ARC team, below is my honest review. Trisha moved away from her judgmental small town to try to make something of herself and follow her passion to be a writer. Unfortunately her mom is sick and needs Trisha to come home to care for not only her but also Trisha’s three younger sibling. In the end, Tricia never returns to school as she needs to raise her sibling. She has a lot to unpack with her abandonment issues pertaining to her father and the father of her younger sibling after the loss of her mother. Davis aka Slider, is undercover for the FBI with a biker gang when who walks in? His one true love, Trisha. Who he hasn’t seen in years as she has been avoiding him for reasons unknown to him. Another gang member tries to pick up on Tricia leading Davis to claim her as his “old lady”. This puts Trisha into an environment she never wanted to be involved in. As well as leading to discoveries as to why her father vanished along with why her siblings father vanished. We also discover that the good guys are not always the good guys. This was a very easy read, well written and the start of a series, I can’t wait to read more in this series. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
I thought this was a great book, Ms. Smith is an amazing storyteller. While this may have been a romance at heart, it has so much more going on, many different plots lines all running together, relevant, intertwined and importantly, all finished off well with a few twists and turns and surprises along the way. It's about Trish and Davis. Growing up Trish was Davis younger sister Ginny's best friend, so they had been in each other’s lives for forever, both believing that their futures lay together, but an incident during the girls visit to Davis's college, which both girls were also going to attend, broke the trust and sent everyone on different paths. Fast forward to years later, Trish hadn't been home in years until her mother dies, bringing her back to look after her siblings, and we find Davis, working for the FBI, undercover in the local biker club. One night out in the wrong bar throws their lives together and sets them on a complicated and dangerous path. While I don't particularly like MC books, I did enjoy this story, it had so much more going on and themes of loyalty, redemption and family, both those we choose and those we are born with, were strong. A very entertaining read.
This was such an amazing story. I loved everything about it. This small-town romance has twist and turns, MC action, steamy smexy time, feels and a HEA. It is the story of Trish and Davis.
I won't give any spoilers or repeat the synopsis of this book as I feel it would not do this author credit. She has written a story I devoured in one setting. She has built a world that I want to revisit time and time again. Her FMC was a tough, fierce mamma bear when it came to protecting her younger siblings. She was quick to apologize when she learned she was wrong. The MMC is one of my top five book boyfriend. He is fierce, protective and would burn the world down her the FMC and his family.
This story was easy to read. The dialogue and character development were top-notch. Even the side characters were interesting and will need their own stories. What I really liked about this story is that while the characters are unraveling a mystery and planning on taking down the bad guy, you get second hand the love story and sacrifice the FMC’s parents made to keep their family safe.
There are some triggers readers need to be aware of they include some v10lenc3, references to SA, and reference d@t3 r@p3 dr^gs.
4.5 is more accurate to how I felt about it but I’m giving it 5 because Goodreads doesn’t do halfsies and the book definitely isn’t less than a 4.5!!
Thank you to CM Smith for sending me an ARC in exchange for my honest review!
I really enjoyed this small town contemporary romance. It has hot biker vibes, a true-crime/mystery subplot, and it explores themes of family - from the ones we choose through the ones we’re born to and specifically the lengths our characters will go to for theirs. Themes of loss, past mistakes, and forgiveness will tug at your heartstrings. I laughed a lot and there’s a tear jerking moment or two.
I couldn’t get enough and I already miss these characters. And while I super love Trish and Davis, I’m so excited to meet some of my other favorites in more depth later in the series! Like Ginny, Tiny and his lil shadow Owen and my girl Harper!!! I don’t know if there’s a book in her future all about her but she’s such a lil baddie in the making so I’d love to see it!
There are violent themes woven throughout as well with the biker scene so be aware of your triggers when picking up this book! But 10/10 recommend if you’re okay with darker themes in your reads.
Love Comes Home releases January 11th, 2024 if you’re interested in preordering! (Message me if you need help finding the proper channels for ordering! CM Smith is on Facebook & Instagram!)
Love Comes Home was not I was expecting, in the best way possible! Fans of second chance romances, secrets, found family, and motorcycles will love this book! Jaws will undoubtedly drop at the unexpected twists and turns.
Trish goes through a lot in this book. After the loss of her mother, she’s in charge of her three younger siblings, taking on a lot of responsibilities. I admired her character and her determination, as well as her dedication to her family. She stands up for them when they need her and always puts their needs first. Davis is a possessive, protective, and grumpy alpha male who loves Trish with all his heart. After their reunion, he immediately places her under his wing, ensuring her safety.
Although their romance is incredible, Trish and Davis do not have it easy. There are secrets and danger lurking that puts their relationship to the test. The side characters are really interesting and will make absolutely amazing main characters in future books! I’m actually obsessed with Tiny, ifykyk. I’m excited for the rest of the series to release!
Love Comes Home is the 1st book in the Boulder Canyon series. It features Trisha and Davis aka Slider. They both had a crush on each other and something happened between them when they were younger, which made Trish move away to study. Trish is called home to look after her younger siblings after her mum becomes ill. Davis is working undercover for the FBI in an motorcycle club hence the name Slider, when Trish walks into the bar he is working at. After another member tries it on with Trish, Slider claims her as his old lady. This claim puts Trish in the thick of it with the motorcycle club as she has history with the club, which leads to discoveries about her mother and fathers past. I really enjoyed this book, it is very well written. I loved the setting with the motorcycle club and the characters were great. I loved Tiny and his friendship with Owen. I adored Harper and her sassyness. And not forgetting Davis and Trish who had amazing chemistry. There are twists and turns throughout. It's a very good start to the series can't wait to read book 2.
Love Comes Home features two secondary characters from the Briar Mountain series in a book I did not know I needed until I had it! I loved every moment of this: the way CM sets up the characters, the conflict, and how she creates the world.
Trish is struggling to care for her siblings in a town that looks down on them. She’s faced several setbacks in her life,, but her love for her siblings and her best friends keep her positive and moving forward. Davis is undercover for the FBI and burning out, ready to come home. When they reconnect, circumstances throw them together forcing them to come to terms with how they fell apart and how they can put it behind them. Of course, there’s a lot more going on behind the scenes, including the ongoing investigation and a 20 year old mystery.
I loved the chemistry between Trish and Davis, and the secondary characters - written so well! I’m looking forward to coming back and getting to know them too.
✨ Best Friend´s brother ✨ Second Chance ✨ Romantic suspense
Davis and Trish
Secrets, hidden identities, suspense and surprises. There is a lot of that in that book. Paired with a love story that was sweet. The plot was very interesting and the different points of view too. A lot of surprises for Trish and her siblings. A lot to make the small town reconsider their opinions and a deserved ending for all of the characters. Davis is the hero here with his choice of career. What brought secrets and suspense with him as well as Trish´s woven family and its secrets and more. The relationship between Davis and Trish began involuntarily but led the way through to their happy end. She was his love once, she had issues of abandonment and avoided him for reasons. But as always we got through it all, they were able to clear the air and move on. With all of the involved characters and family members. Interesting story, fascinating characters and a plot I didn't see coming.
I loved reading this book; there was just enough intrigue and puzzle-solving to keep my attention. The world-building and character introductions for what looks like a good series. While there is a lot going on, everything fits together as we are introduced to Boulder Canyon.
Trish has loved Davis for some time, but an unfortunate party situation ruined any feelings she had for him. Time passed, and Trish needed to come home; her family needed her. A surprise meeting at a local bar has her back in Davis’s orbit. This time, things are different. Can the love return? Many answers buried in the past will come to light as these two work towards a future.
I am looking forward to more from Boulder Canyon.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
This was my first book by this author, and I am impressed! From a captivating plot to numerous unexpected twists, family secrets, and an undeniable spicy steam, this book delivers it all. The chemistry between Davis and Trish, which has always been electric, finally takes center stage, though the timing has never been quite right for them. Trish finds herself back home after her mother's passing, shouldering the responsibility of caring for her three younger siblings, while Davis, operating undercover as an FBI special agent, is entangled with a motorcycle club.
Their paths unexpectedly cross, sparking an intense connection. What secrets and plot twists await in Boulder Canyon? To uncover the answers, you'll have to dive into the pages of this book yourself.
This was a wonderful story. Wow just Wow!! Undercover agent in a biker gang, Davis aka Slider meets up again with Trish who has come home when her mother dies. The chemistry between Trish and Slider is sweet, supportive, protective and strong despite the tentative nature of their get together in the beginning. But like all true suspense, trouble finds them and the real drama starts. There are a few layers of story in this book and although not complicated is adds depth to the book. I enjoyed the characters especially the romance aspect. CM Smith really knows her stuff and this book certainly grabs on and does not let go. Such a great story and can't wait to see what comes next from this author.
This is romantic suspense with Trish and Davis who knew each other when they were younger. Trish had a crush on Davis from the time they were young. She goes into the bar where her mom cooked before she died. She's doing research for the book she's writing. She gets hit on by one of the biker gang. Davis is bartending and goes to her rescue claiming that she's his "old lady". This causes a lot of problems for both of them. Davis is an undercover FBI agent and needs Trish to go along with his claim. Will she get over the betrayal that she thinks Davis did years ago and give into the love she has for him? There's a lot of secrets that come out that put them and their families in danger, too. I read this through the Kindle Unlimited.
What do you do when you have three siblings to take care of and the money you do have is already thin enough? You make do the best as you can but when Trish find about Davis her high school crush is back in tower undercover with the local joker group she'll have to decide that forgiveness isn't bad but good for both of them. Except someone from the biker group wants to hurt her for something from her mothers past and that their dad isn't dead and its going to take everyone to keep her and the siblings safe when it all goes FUBAR.
There is a little of something for all readers! You get second chance romance, the best friends’ brother, in a small-town setting and why not toss in an MC Club!
Full of twists and turns and ups and downs (which some happen between the sheets or in parked cars!) this story had me hooked. Was just the book I was looking for to read on a Sunday afternoon!
Trish and Davis have mountains to climb before they can find a HEA! Will Raider let that happen? Will the past always be there lurking? Will secrets be revealed? - Of course they will, because we will know secrets do not stay buried! Looking forward to reading more from this series!
*Small Town *Second Chance *Best Friends Brother *Undercover FBI Agent
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC for my honest opinion. This book has be on the edge of my seat several times. I enjoyed the suspense through out the entire book. There was plenty of what the heck just happened. I loved the undercover side and everything that came along with that. This was an extremely well written book. I can't wait for book 2 in the Boulder Canyon Series!! Let's see what happens next!
This book is a whole journey, of healing, forgiveness and new beginings. The way the author choose to tell this story in different timelines, by having the FMC reading her mom's old diaries is very well done. The plot twists really surprise the reader and are well planned to hit in the right moment. Davis and Trish are 3 dimensional people with real problems and you can see the love and support for each other growing during the journey to HEA. The are great side characters, as are the members of the club and other family members.
This is a second chance romance, best friends brother with a small town setting! This book follows Trish and Davis. Trish goes through a lot and has me in my feelings! It is told through multiple point of views. Davis will make you swoon. The book has a great plot with lots of twists and I loved the mystery aspect of it. You will fall in love with all the characters even the side one's! Definitely a must read! Looking forward to more from CM Smith!
No joke, I read this book, and THAT night I dreamed I was there on the back of a motorcycle!
Trish is our down and her luck heroine. After the death of her mother, she takes responsibility for her siblings, their house, and a mountain of issues. The last thing she needed was her childhood crush Davis walking back in to her life. But that’s exactly what happened when she visits a bike bar. Davis isn’t the same. He changes, long hair tattoos but he still has the ability to open the old wound in Trish’s heart, but boy does he work to get her back.
What I loved most about this book was the plot. There were plenty of twists and turns to keep it interesting and relevant to the character and their own personal arcs. I really want to dive back into this world and relive it. So I’ll be watching CM Smith and hoping she releases the next book soon.
New Series, New Characters, one-click author does it again!!
I fell in love with this author’s writing in her Briar Mountain Series and have been patiently (lol) waiting for her new series to start. We briefly met both these characters in her previous series, but this one does stand on its own.
Davis is an FBI Agent, this was not the life he expected, but plans changed when he could no longer play college baseball and even worse he didn’t get the girl. Instead, he is now the hotshot undercover agent determined to help clean up his town and save his newfound family and finally claim his girl.
Trish’s life and dreams have been crushed over and over. Her abandonment issues started young when her father left, her high school crush broke her heart, her stepdad left and now her mom was dying. She never wanted to come home, but for her mom and siblings she would do anything. Even if it was her worst nightmare. She knew it wouldn’t be easy, but she never knew it would put her life in danger.
You’ll get wrapped up in both the romance and the mystery and I don’t want to give anything away, but this book has it all – Romance, Suspense, Small Town, Best Friend’s Brother, Second Chance, Age Gap, Found/Real Family and Secrets!
Let’s not forget the side characters that you will also fall in love with – I can’t wait for more of the Boulder Canyon Crew!
This was my first time reading this author, but I will definitely continue this series and her other books. I was early on hooked on the characters and now I love Trish and Davis, and hope to see them in the next books. The story and relationship was sweet and intriguing with all the plot twists. Small town is also one of my fav tropes. Sometimes the pacing of the story was slow, but still overall a very good book.
