What could possibly be plus amusant than reading ce livre en cours de Français? Probably only having Leo read it TO us in his Franglais 😂 Cheers to a fun, silly, easy-to-read murder mystery taking place in Paris à Nöel.

Another great entry in the Litte French Murders series, which as the title suggests take place over Christmas.
This book (and the entire series) is a great way to gain confidence reading French in humorous and mature story aimed more towards to adult learners.

France Dubin has hit her stride with these murder mysteries in simple French. An entertaining read. This time I figured out how the victim was murdered before it was explained.
There were no hyperlinks between the French and English versions for this one, so I didn't bother checking answers to quiz questions. I only tend to occasionally do them anyway. But I will say that some of the multiple choice spelling/grammar ones have distractors that make more sense for native speakers or people who have picked up French by ear, than for those who have studied it - though that may differ when people are still learning the grammar. Sound-alikes are less of a problem for learners, I believe. The main weaknesses I notice for learners and non-native speakers are: gender of nouns, prepositions (or their absence), whether to use avoir or être with a verb, and of course the more complex verb tenses like when to use subjunctive mood. Also, the things that are very different between the target language (in this case French) and the known language (English). An example that often causes problems is manquer, which is used the opposite way round to English for the expression "I miss you". But I'm rambling about n'importe quoi - at least as far as this book review is concerned.
Thanks France, your stories are appreciated!

I just adore these little French light mysteries. With each one, my comprehension has improved. And the stories are engaging in their own right. The first time through this one, I just read, rarely stopping to look up
a word- and only if I absolutely couldn’t figure it out. I just wanted to actually read rather than study the French vocabulary, grammar, and syntax. Now I will go through it again, verifying my understanding and also taking time to complete the exercises at the end of each chapter. Lastly, I’ve become quite attached to the series protagonist, Alice Hunt, who keeps me wanting to find out what happens next.

Anyone trying to improve their French listening and comprehension should really, really listen to these books. They are real stories, in uncomplicated French, and read slowly and clearly. You can really build your confidence with these stories. This is just one in a whole series.
