John Thomas Rourke's world is now roughly one-third of what it was; everything above latitude 35 north and below latitude 35 south is encased in glacial ice. The geography drastically changed but little else did. Maniacs and evil had still tried to dominate those who wanted to be free. Days became weeks, weeks became months and months turned into years as he battled and vanquished the enemies of humanity in every form and shape damnation threw at him. His last victory, almost seventeen years ago, granted him peace-a peace he had courted, a peace he had sought-one he never believed he would find. That peace is about to end; Rourke's world is threatened again by forces he never conceived of. Are they so unpredictable-situations so dire-there is no way to "plan ahead?" Jerry Ahern (born Jerome Morrell Ahern) was a science fiction and action novel author best known for his post apocalyptic survivalist series The Survivalist. The books in this series are heavy with descriptions of the weapons the protagonists use to survive and prosecute a seemingly never-ending war amongst the remnants of the superpowers from pre-apocalypse times.
Ahern was also a firearms writer, who published numerous articles in magazines such as Guns & Ammo, Handguns and Gun World.
Jerry Ahern passed away on July 24, 2012 after a long struggle with cancer.
Ahern also released books under pseudonym Axel Kilgore.
I'm sorry to say that the author needs a lot of practice when it comes to his prose.
The same word was used in paragraphs twice or more, making it sound awkward.
A thesaurus would come in handy here.
Secondly, there were times when the text made me shake my head. A prime example was in a scene were Paul has been injured. The author said he was in pain and agony.
Sorry, that's really redundant!
Third, a time frame needs to be established here, even simple dates to get a feel of the passage of the story.
I did notice more than a few continuity issues as well.
An experienced editor could have turned this book around.
In fact, I strongly recommend this.
I will assume the books will improve with practice and experience.
Could I do better? In some aspects, most assuredly. In others... that's what I would count on a good editor to fix.
No one is perfect.
I will continue with the series, as in intrigued on where this new chapter in the Rourke saga is headed.
Having read all of the books many times I found this one to be one of the shortest but good it does however move slowly. Some times it seems some parts are long winded to fill up space but don't add to the story. Paul is hardly in the story at all and Annie & natalia are barely mentioned. I will read the future novels and hope they are better
