After a horrific accident stole my life, I found myself adrift.

Until one night a crazed man, if you can even call him a man, attacked me.

Who’d have thought that random event would set my new life in motion?

Because it seems I am not fully human myself. I have powers that will either grant me an amazing future—or destroy me and everyone I have grown to care about.

So I land on the doorstep of the Shades Academy, and it feels like home—a place where I belong.

The only problem is, to stay, I need to discover the power hidden within me. Not an easy thing when I’m surrounded by gorgeous men and cagey beasts. But which is which? And what will happen if I fail to embrace my talent?

The completed Warrior Hearts Academy Phoenix trilogy is a dark, slow-burn, paranormal/fantasy romance where the strong female main character has many love interests that she doesn’t have to choose between. A Happily Ever After is guaranteed in book three. This series contains subject matter best suited for mature readers. If you have specific triggers, please contact the author to discuss whether this trilogy is right for you.

Well, I honestly wish I hadn’t wasted my time on this book. Saying this book is a “fated mates, reverse harem romance” is the same as stating The Exorcist is a comedy movie. Lies.

FMC is taken to an academy to learn her super special powers. She meets three guys. Matt, the dire wolf. Terekoli, Tereiola, Terkel…? Whatever weird ass name he has, is a dragon shifter. Sebastian, is a unicorn who isn’t called a unicorn, but a Balami... or some other random name that reminds me of salami.

🐺 Matt is a weak as f*ck dire wolf who can’t stand up to the alpha asshole on campus and is always hiding behind FMC. He speaks like a douchebag with incomprehensible Aussie slang because he thinks it makes him sound cool. It doesn’t. *I really wanna curb stomp him every time he opens his mouth, for real*

🐲 The dragon is an ex assassin. He's only on campus because he is hiding out from headhunters. He speaks to FMC maybe twice and is an asshole. He wants to kidnap twin toddler girls so he can sell them to pay off his debts. Let the headhunters have him.

🦄 Sebastian speaks like he’s mentally handicapped. I think it’s supposed to be his accent, but really he just can’t conjugate his verbs, and he leaves words out of his sentences. He’s an instructor. He speaks to FMC a couple times, but mostly avoids her because FEELINGS

There is no spice or romance. MMC’s are constantly hard and they jackoff a lot when they’re alone, but that’s hardly exciting. There is almost zero in-person interactions between FMC and any of these guys, but they have dreams of each other. This continues on into book 3, so don’t expect spice in the future either.

Also, the guys spend almost the entire series imprisoned by different people. The dragon isn’t even present in book 2 because he was nabbed. That doesn’t seem likely to change anytime soon in book 3. I'm not even sure why everyone keeps wanting to run off and save him.

I wasn’t impressed by this series at all. Would not recommend.

P.S. the blurb to this book is misleading. FMC doesn’t die, ever. She’s got some memory loss from an old accident…and all of that happened long before the story began. So don’t expect any ghost plots or anything fun like that.

‼️ Triggers: SA, misogyny, assault, abuse, kidnapping, torture…lots and lots of triggers

4.5 stars rounded up because I read this in one long sitting.

Once again, I'm sucked into the world of cryptids and fated mates. Any time I see that L.E. Horn or Ellie Horn has released a new book, it's pretty much automatic that I will read it. Unfortunately for me, this time I didn't read the fine print, and this book is NOT standalone, unlike the previous fated mates series that takes place in the same universe. But had I known, I would probably still have read it because 1) I love this universe so much and 2) Horn writes her books in a timely manner so I am sure I won't have to wait forever for the next book. I WILL be waiting in line for it though.

This series begins with a new set of characters, Anna, Matt, and Talakai, as well as Anna's roommate, Mari. But many of the old favorites are there, including Cara, Cody, Ryan, Kitani, and of course, Sebastian, who we met in the previous series. Our old favorites are running an academy for cryptids to learn how to better utilize their gifts, but the goal is to defend the realms from those who would abuse them or take them down. While it's not necessary to read any of the previous series, I think it helps to understand the world where this takes place, as well as the politics of the cryptid council and the history of the dragons. Horn does a pretty good job describing everything, but I'm not sure if it was all easy for me because I already knew it or if she really does include everything you need. Personally, it really enhanced the story for me knowing who everyone was, especially Sebastian.

As with many of the fated mates series, those who are destined in this story don't have the easiest backgrounds, and so you know that some of them will make major mistakes. But I think this story is also about redemption, and I do like how complicated some of the main folks are in this one. If anything, Matt was the most straightforward new character, but even he has some hidden traumas in his past which we get a glimpse of in this book, and I imagine we'll get more clarity in future books. His insistence on using Aussie slang was both amusing and annoying, but my annoyance was more on the level of Mari and Anna, so it wasn't too bad. I think his motivation was partly a defense mechanism and it gave you an understanding of the type of person he was.

Also common to the other books is that this one has both obvious and hidden villains, as well as potentially good people doing bad things in the name of survival, and politicians with hidden agendas. The big bad in the previous books continue to be background enemies and
I suspect we'll hear more from them in future books.

This book absolutely ends on a cliffhanger, so if you hate that, you may have to wait a year or so for the rest of the books to be published, but I still highly recommend this series (and this universe). Horn is one of my favorite authors for this genre of books.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from BookSirens. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book begins in an already constructed world system. I knew this going into it and decided to just give it a go anyway. I would recommend starting with the series before this one so you're not as lost as I was in the beginning.
That being said, I think the author does a good job reintroducing the world to those of us that wanted to dive right in. Beware though, this book is dense!
I keep thinking of other academy books I've read and there is a definite scale from lite to heavy. I think I prefer something in between these two extremes. This book is well into the heavy zone, but still managed to keep my interest.

In the beginning our MFC, Anna, has a run in with a feral dire (werewolves), which activates a power inside her that allows her to both kill the dire and heal her dog. A little of the lack of communication trope comes into play here because she's nervous she'll be blamed for the death etc. etc.
She then is taken to a military academy with mostly make dires and other various species (all male) like dragons, trolls, and others.
She struggles being the weak link because she doesn't know what her abilities are until like the last 15 % of the book and even then doesn't really know. More non communication, because she's worried she'll be kicked out of the academy if they find out.
* Honestly, it was annoying, but there were logical reasons behind the "not telling", so it wasn't as bad as other books I've read with this plot device.
There are so many mysteries yet to be uncovered, but we do know she has a connection to Matt (dire), Sebastian (watcher), and Talekei (dragon). We also know that Darius and Aaron are up to no good and most likely the villains of the story.

There is something so compelling in this magnificent world the author takes us to, so utterly wonderous. Going back and forth between the human world and other realms is seamless and vivid, the entire book is vivid! Each scene so alive, I get lost in the characters and story. Even though this is a new series, I absolutely love how characters and events from the previous books are as vital here as in the other series. Not the MC's, this time round Anna, Matt and Talakai are the one's we meet. I love the fact that the characters are all flawed, each one has a secret, each one is hiding behind a facade of fear and uncertainty. My goodness, the opening chapter lays down the foundation for an action packed book! I love how the author spins such complex characters yet infuses them with a sense of realism and only touches on all they are or can be, steadily building each one up, letting us gain insight into what makes them tick. Not only that, they are laid wide open, their emotions, their hopes, their secrets and their aspirations are raw and real.

And not only do we get a new series in a familiar world, we get Sebastian again! This time trying desperately to put his past deeds behind him and at the same time trying unsuccessfully to ignore Anna and the feelings he evokes in her. Which brings me to Anna, she was content, training to try out for a place on the Canadian Armed Forces, in a very human world, until a stalker changes everything! Her only glitch is she has no memory of her life or family prior to waking up in hospital and now she surprises even herself at her actions. Me too.... very interesting to see it unfolding. Her gorgeous dog Trix, now there's a special dog! So devoted to Anna. So she finds herself at the Academy, to find out what she is, what she's capable of, all the while being in extreme danger from the Dire's, who want her, need her, which leads to some scary events.

Of course there's are your bullies, the Alpha Darius and his Beta Aaron, nasty, pompous and arrogant and definitely with a hidden agenda!

All said and done, this book is only a glimpse of what's to come, which I definitely need to discover! Can't wait for the next book

nope.

I finished book one, two and about 75% on the third one. However I don’t think I’m going to finish. I had high hopes, I truly like our MC and liked one of the guys. But this story doesn’t have any disclaimers that are truly needed. I went as far as reading some reviews to double check without spoiling too much but most reviews were by gifted copies so idk about that. There were multiple SA scenes, the third book also has a mm relationship and it seems like it might lead to more. You get more through the “dreams” than actually of the characters together. The relationships seems super superficial and obviously the relationship with the guys just came out of nowhere. If you take a step back the MC has only ever had a connection with one of the guys. The other two she has barely interacted with them and now suddenly they are mated. Definitely not the story for me.

RH MMM/Shifter/Enemies to Lovers-Fated Mates

SYNOPSIS (of Phoenix Trilogy): The FC (Anna) is a Unicorn/Satyr hybrid raised as a human who finds out she is actually a supernatural and that there are multiple Realms other than just the human realm. The MCs are a Dragon, a Wolf and a Unicorn although this series uses different terms. When she discovers she is not human she agrees to attend the Warrior Academy to learn about her abilities and to help the Council police the realms. The trilogy arcs over the FC finding out who and what she is, the development of her relationships with her mates and the trials that they face as well as fighting against a great evil trying to destroy the realms. Whilst the trilogy ends with everyone coming together there are open questions that I assume are dealt with in the next trilogy of the series which relates to a different set of main characters.

I thought I had found another great author to add to my (albeit short) list of go to reads (the top of which is J Bree and Dark Legacy by Jasmin Eve). Whilst I will give the next trilogy (Centaurs) a go I am not convinced that will be the case. Why you ask? I will start by saying the story is well written and edited, the FC is strong and kick ass but not irritating and the MCs are each distinct and alpha. Whilst not particularly unique, the story is strong with plenty of angst and drama to pull you along and a lot happening. There’s also a decent amount of world building and character development which gives a good basis to the story and adds depth.

The issue I had was with the climax. The story has a major story arc an element of which carries over into the next trilogy and a minor one. These affect the MCs and are drawn out as well as involving the single theme of men being put in positions where they are taken advantage of sexually by women, denigrated and made to feel powerless. As a personal comment I felt the author dragged these story lines out a bit too long and they are definitely uncomfortable. Readers should also note that they are quite graphic. The drawing out of tension and drama would not have been such an issue for me if the climax of each story line had matched the lead up. Unfortunately despite the heinous acts undertaken by the villains they seemed to meet quick and relatively painless endings which did not really do it for me in terms of what they should have suffered. If an author is going to create such truly evil villains and then have them inflict such horror on the MCs then they really need to give the readers the satisfaction of a fitting and just comeuppance (IMO).

The other problem I felt was that as a result of the two main story lines being drawn out whilst the FC spent alot of time over all 3 Books with the Wolf MC and their relationship development she spent very little time with either of the other two MCs. As a result there was minimal relationship development and their ultimate coming together and mating was rushed, especially the one in Book 3 and lacked any real depth. I was also left unclear as to when and how the FC actually mated with the Dragon or the Unicorn as there was no biting or mark.

Finally, the author does not tie everything up. Not all the villains are dealt with in this trilogy which really left me feeling dissatisfied. Even if they are all dealt with by the end of the next trilogy I feel that after everything this set of characters went through they should have had their own full justice, especially Sebastien. Equally, I did not feel that the FC and MCs were all “happily ever after”. The author did not really leave me with a feeling that this quad were completely together and committed. Whilst the dragon and wolf seemed to be accepting of the RH the Unicorn wasn’t and the author never closed that element out. Again, it left me feeling dissatisfied and that there wasn’t really a HEA for this group. Open questions were left around, for example, Brock (Xumi’s son) - was there no revenge - and the apparent offspring resulting from the Tantril scene (yuk by the way).

Why do author’s spend time and effort building up and dragging stories out if they aren’t going to spend an equal amount of effort closing the story out in a satisfactory way?

I’m going to try the next trilogy in the series to see if I get any closure or whether this is just the way this author writes. However, if this is another series where the men get sexually abused by women and humiliated then I will have to draw a line! That’s not really a story line that I can buy into again.

Good Start to a series

I enjoyed the multi POV’s from each of the characters, I did feel that it was very slow going. Not much happened in the book, the start and ending was the most exciting parts. I felt that there’s lots of secrets, and no one is spilling when it matters most. The fmc learned she’s not entirely human and no one can figure out what she is. Her powers are kinda all over the place and this is the time to tell ppl when things are weird to her, weirder than normal. She feels a connection to 3 guys, and one has turned into a bad guy! Like what?! After everything the ppl did to get him out of prison, he decided to hatch a plan that was just as bad as when he was in prison. That hurt to read, that he turned out to be someone that he wasn’t originally portrayed as. I don’t know how he can come back from this, especially when she felt such a instant connection with him. I rated it 3 stars because I found the majority of the book, was just talk, barely any character development, the secrets, and the fmc just rolling over every time the “team leader” and his minion opened their mouths. Otherwise I felt the story had promise. Oh and that one of the male leads made a decision that altered my view of his character in the worst way. I read the reviews on this book, and plenty had negative comments on the Australians slang. I thought it was charming, and even though I never heard most of it before, I understood what he was trying to say. I really liked Matt. He is one of the male leads, and I think a beta. The team leader is an alpha that bought his way into the academy and now seems he can do what he want including using his alpha powers to make other submit, including Matt. I can’t wait for the fmc to whoop his butt. She’s already surprised him a few times but none are dissected verbally enough for her to understand what she did. I feel like there needs to be a bit more action to make the book more lively. The secret keeping with all the weird things happening to the fmc need to come to light too. Speaking them aloud, gives them another clue to her powers, especially since she’s so new to the world. I hope the next book has a bit more oomph to it.

Before I get in to my review I want to put out there I received a copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. Now that is established, if you are a fan of Zodiac Academy series then you will more in likely like The Warrior Hearts Academy series. The biggest difference between the series though is WHA is set up to be a reverse harem romance. Now let’s get in to this.

The main female character Anna discovers she isn’t quite human and her plans for her future take only a slight change. Instead of joining the Canadian’s military she is now working towards joining the supernatural military. While doing so of course it becomes a quest of finding out who she is and what she is. I love that Anna is such a strong but compassionate person and none of that is over exaggerated. Of course can’t for get about Trix!! I love that dog haha.

Not only do we have good character building with Anna of this story but also with love interests and and friendships. Now this book contains very little spice in it and you know what… that’s ok because the slow burn we get in this book is enough to keep you interested especially with that Aussie accent!!! But as mentioned earlier this is set up for a reverse harem so we don’t just have a lovely Aussie to fall for but 2, yes not 1 but 2 brooding males with trouble past to chip at and fall for as well!! What more can a woman ask for!!! Haha

But aside from character development the world building in this book is great and pretty straight forward and sets it up for a series that can last for quite a few books plus spin off series (if there isn’t already some). I really look forward to see how this story progresses and what lies ahead for our heroes.

Phoenix Fall takes us back to the worlds of the Warrior Hearts with a new series. Characters come together at the new shade academy. Many familiar faces make appearances, but the story could be read without having read the other series. I loved the slight easter egg feel from knowing the characters. Example - a blue jeep shows up an Anna's house. I knew whose jeep that was and couldn't wait to see her again.

Power is a weapon in this series. It felt to be wielded more aggressively in this story. Story starts with Talakai being rescued. As we learn more about Xumi, the picture of what he endured begins to take shape. Story has an alpha dire that is all about bending others to his will. Anna, Matt and Sebastian are dealing with their own history as well. It is not as apparent as Talakai's but all have their own baggage.

Forced to be a team, team Phoenix has a lot of work to do to figure out how to function together as one. I loved seeing the exchanges between the team. Their personalities came alive as they share meals and attend classes and exercises together.

Woven through the story is the mystery of Anna's past and the explanation of her abilities. Understandable that without knowing her history, it would be difficult to nail down what she is and the extend of what she is capable of.

I could not put the story down as I dove back into a world I love. I was floored to hear I could go back. Looking forward to reading book 2.

I love this author's books. I found my first one around a year ago and I have read everything I could get my hands on. The characters are delightful. They are all
works in progress. Anna is a strong, young woman with tons of grit and heart, struggling to create a good life for herself. Anna lost her everything in an accident a couple of years ago. Just as she has gotten herself together, she is forced to start over again. Her life is reminiscent of the ancient Chinese proverb, Fall down 7 times, stand up 8. She has no idea who she may become, but embraces the chance to create a meaningful life again. She ends up going to an academy to learn to control her budding powers. (FYI This is an academy for adults, similar to Law enforcement training- these are not teens- this is written for a mature audience.)
Her love interests include Talakai, an ice cold Dragon, who shows flashes of compassion, Matt a Dire Wolf who is full of Joie de Vivre but, also has a history full of pain, and Sebastian, who is earning his freedom and redemption. The well paced plot is strong. It encompasses multiple storylines all interwoven to create a rich plot and strong character development.
This part of the story is about the size of a medium length softcover novel.
This story is in three parts, so it end on a cliffhanger.

I received a free copy of this book. I chose to leave a review.

Warrior's Heart Academy is a spinoff from Warrior's Heart. Not necessary to read first but characters from Warrior's Heart appear in this new series. Cryptids and fated mates.
A new academy has formed taking in students to help train them to control their new abilities and become a Shade. A protector of the realms. Students are broken down into teams.
The Phoenix team consist of Anna (not sure of her ability), Matt a dire wolf, Talakai a dragon with a secret, Mari an ogre and Darius and Aaron, an alpha and his beta who are untouchable and up to no good. Then throw in a new instructor Sebastian a Liberi, a Bellati, who has demons that haunt him.

Anna is finding it hard to connect with her unknown abilities due to the fact that she can't keep her mind off some of the gorgeous beast on her team.  Her dreams don't help. Darius and Aaron are leading the team going against the rules putting the team in danger.
When a rogue Liberi and his followers are spotted the staff takes off leaving the academy with a skeleton crew.
Evil lurks in the shadows with his minions waiting for the perfect opportunity to strike taking the most valuable asset.
Action packed drama, mystery and suspense will keep you intrigued from beginning to end. There is a cliffy but so worth the wait!!
Can't wait for next installment Phoenix Rise!!

Rcvd an advanced reader copy from BookSirens for giving my two cents. What a read....makes you sit on the edge of your seat. We meet Anna and her dog Trix out for an evening run when they are attacked by a thing. Anna is beyond mad when it hurts her dog, and when it attacks her, she concentrates on getting it off her that her touch kills it. She knows Trix's leg was broken, but the vet said it wasn't...weird. maybe it's all a bad dream. She has 2 women and a man come to her house to discuss the man that attacked her only to find out these people aren't human and apparently neither is she. Cara, the leader of the group tells her about a place where she can learn skills and understand her power better...why not...up until 2 years ago she has no memory...only an accident that killed her family and left her with amnesia. We meet Matt, an Aussie Dire aka werewolf who is at the academy to hone his skills when he sees a blonde woman from his dreams. We then weet a dragon shifter who was imprisoned by a lethal dragona only to escape and seek refuge, albeit secretly at the academy. Anna thinks there is more going on then meets the eye. She had super attraction to two males and when a new professor comes along....hello hormones. But there is smtg wrong at the academy...secrets, male egos and a will to find out about past, present and future. Plus cliffhanger!!!

In this the first in a new fantasy series, Anna is alone apart from her dog, Trix, following an accident where her family died, and she lost all memories prior to that. Life is hard, but when she is attacked she finds herself at Shades Academy, which feels like home.

The start of a new series is always interesting, seeing how the author sets about world building, especially in a book of this genre. Right from the first page I was in; Anna is drawn into a world she never dreamt of, but feels strangely attracted to. A strong female character is always nice to read about, and in this, a reverse-harem fated-mates love story, she finds herself struggling to come to terms with her new found talent, her attraction to not just one male, and being the target of more attention than she wants or needs. It’s a fast paced read, developing really well and it leaves the reader definitely wanting more. There are already some very well rounded characters, in all shapes and sizes, and it’ll be fun to see where their adventures take them. You’re warned at the outset it’s a cliffhanger and I can’t wait to see what happens next. Loved it.

This series started really good. First book was engaging, mysterious and full of sexual tension. I'm a slow burn lover, so I was willing to wait.

But it makes you wait for too long. That's why for the whole series I give it 3,5 starts, because while the first book is really good, the second and third are very repetitive and frustrating. I'm here for the romance damnit, and it was hard as hell for something to happen. At some points I wanted to tear my hair out because some of the men were so stubborn.

For.all the sexual tension, I was expecting hot and heavy, but got repetition instead. Where are the group scenes??? I was wiating for Matt and Talakai, but nothing there either. As for Sebastian... God. I won't go there.

As for the plot, again, very repetitive. There were some parts that could have been cut because they weren't that necessary in my opinion and could have been replaced by relationship development.

In the end of the series, Anna and her guys, with the exception of Matt, have barely talked, they don't know each other but the men are also not open to get to know Anna and open up to her. So I was left hanging. I was hoping there was maybe a novella to show their actual relationship, but there isnt. Unfortunate.

This was such an amazing book that it is hard figure out where to start. I was given an ARC of this book by the author and am grateful that I was so given the experience of its journey. I love the characters who were of vast species and talent. I am relatively new to shifters and the concept or otherworldly realms. That being said this was a book I had difficulty putting down. It was intriguing and engrossing from the start. The emotional charges shift as do the physical interactions. There is some new curiosity or angst on almost every page and lots of secrets.... But, I can say it was loads of fun to read, even the intense parts. There is not an adequate way to describe the way the characters develop the relationships they do or don't depending. This is the first book I have read by Ellie Horn who I have added to my favorite newly read author list. If you are already a shifter fan this is a must read and if you are just wondering if you might be grab this book. I am grateful I had the opportunity to read and review such wonderful book.

Fantastic read with a huge cliffhanger

In the first of this trilogy, Ellie has taken the time to give us a really good grounding in our main characters. As always, the world building is complex and rich. Those familiar with the universe will dive straight in with no problems at all. There are some really fun cameos from past main characters, which will lend something a little extra to those familiar with them, but don’t detract for those new to the series. It is very quick and easy to fall in love with the main characters in this story - even those that are a little more prickly. There is an Aussie character, which as an Australian reader is amusing to see, and although not completely en pointe all the time, Ellie does a good job of bringing the Australian vernacular to the page. This is a great establishing start to the series that had me compulsively turning the pages, and very relieved that I already had access to the second book.

Full disclosure: I was given an ARC of the book, however this review is my own honest opinion.

Oh man. I pushed my hair off my face. This is what I got for not rubbing one off in the shower – an ogress shaking me awake for having an orgasm

"Phoenix Fall" is the first book I've read from Ellie Horn, but it won't be the last. Even though it's not necessary to have read the other books in this universe, I became intrigued by the world this story takes place in, and all its inhabitants. There's a mix of popular parnormal species like dragons and wolves, together with some lesser known species and others with an original spin on how they're portrayed in most books.

I enjoyed the build-up of this story, and all the suspense that's involved. There are so many remaining questions, I was truly relieved to see a note at the back of this book about the release of book 2. I'll surive two months waiting for some answers... I hope. Anna is a great fmc, and I loved all the mystery that surrounds her. Her furry companion Trix is a wonderful extra to the story, and the same counts for the new friend she makes at Warrior Hearts Academy.

I was happy with the multiple POV, because I'm not sure I would be able to like Sebastian and Tanakai otherwise. Matt though, he's an awesome men, and I love the lightness and protectiveness he brings to the story.

Great start to a new series, and I'm already making room in my schedule to be able to binge read the second book once it releases!

ARC from author - No spoilers! Adult RH slow burn read with medium spice. Bk 1 of a trilogy and ends on a cliffy. All characters are older, not school age.
Went in blind here both with the author and the World and am wondering why I am so late in discovering both! Absolutely loved it and ended up pulling an all nighter as could not put the book down.
All the characters have depth, quirks, flaws and secrets in a multi-dimensional setting. The book grips you from the start and you have to find out more, answers do not come easily and lead to more questions.
Love the dynamics and interactions, the method of species speech added a piquancy I enjoyed and the relationship between the FMC Anna and her dog Trix, sold me the book there and then!
Story flowed, was rich with intrigue and had visiting characters from earlier book series (which I will now be reading) and tension is building fast.
Cannot wait to read Bk 2 due shortly as need to know what happens to Anna, Matt, Talakai, Sebastian, Mari, Darius and Aaron at The Warrior Hearts Academy.

Okay, Wow!! I don’t think I breathed for the last couple chapters! Definitely cliffhanger ending that almost took me out since I hadn’t been breathing..LOL. SO.. I don’t even know where to begin or highlight. This book definitely took me by surprise and is definitely a shifter series that will be nothing like you’ve read before. If you want Extreme SMUT..You will not be disappointed and oddly enough still leave you wanting! If you want adventure this has plenty of intense and action scenes, that will leave you shocked this is supposed to be a shifter series. If you want plot, story, friendship also you have found the right book. Be very aware this is some intense Smut and Action. There is NOTHING boring or monotonous about this story…And FORTUNATELY for ALL us readers the second book is now available with the third soon to follow!

I love anything I've read so far by Ellie Horn, this is no exception. I get sucked in every time I jump into the world of cryptids. I liked the main female protagonist, Anna, and wanted to rad more of her journey and find out all about her world and past with her. Her fated mates are all complicated and a little intense in their own rights, but they seem well-suited and there's just enough steam to keep things interesting.

While this book is meant to be separate from the others (except its sequels!) set in this universe, I have read a few of her other books, and I found it much easier having some background knowledge. I have not read them all, and felt at times like my knowledge was a bit lacking around certain characters or types of cryptids/history. It did not impede my enjoyment of the story, just made me decide I will have to go back and read some more.

This was the first book I read of Ellie Horns and I DO NOT regret it. Thank you for the copy of this book.

Cryptids, Hybrids, and Shifters all coming together to tell the story of a woman who doesn't know who she is. She barely knows what she can do but she is slowly learning, thanks to the academy.
This book is slow burn...really slow burn but the world building and characters make up for that. It does start of a little slow but I think that is because the author wants to take time to give her characters the justice of building their backgrounds.
There are some intense disgust in some scenes because some of the guys are literally disturbing in the way they see women but Anna has a way of putting them in their place.
This does end on a cliffhanger, so be prepared to read the second one as soon as possible if you want to find out what happens next.

Anna is an ordinary human training hard to join the Canadian Armed Forces. He best friend is a dog called Trix. Whilst out for a run she is attacked by a supernatural creature which, against all odds, she manages to kill. As a result of her newly awakened powers she is taken to a training academy for other supernatural creatures. Here she meets Matt a werewolf, Talakai a dragon shifter and Sebastian a unicorn. The relationship between Anna, Matt, Talakai and Sebastian is electrical! The subsequent adventure is wild and nail bitting. This is the first in an absolutely fantastic series and as such ends in a cliffhanger. Can't wait for the next in the series.

A very interesting story. We are kept is suspense with what type of magic Anna has. She is sent to school to learn who she is. She placed on a team with Matt, Talakai, Mari, Darius and Aaron. Anna is challenged by Darius who thinks she has no talent and will drag the team down. Matt and Talakai are attracted to her and she keeps dreaming about them. This is about conflicts with dires who want Anna as she is a free female, chemistry that developes with Matt, interest in the dragon, Talakai, encouragement for Mari and the total dislike with Darius and Aaron. We are left with a cliffhanger that make you want the next book. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

If you haven't read any books by Ellie Horn, you are in for a treat as you are going to find a new author to love! This is the beginning of her new series. There is a cliffhanger at the end, but the story is so doggone good, you will be wanting to read the next book in the series even without the cliffhanger. The characters are varied, interact well with each other, even the bad guys interactions are believable. The story is one of those that you can't seem to put down. It has some romance, some danger, lots of dragons and other creatures as well. It is entertaining, easy to read and you will NOT want to put it down. I loved it and would highly recommend the story.

This is my first book/series by this author, and I'm dying to read her other series while I wait for the remaining two books of this trilogy to come out.

In this series, Anna is alone with her dog Trix, after an accident where her family passed. She also has no memories prior to losing her family. After she is attacked she ends up at Shades Academy, which has her feeling more at home. I didn't feel lost in this world even though it's well established, so if you haven't read any of Ellie's previous books you'll be good! I like that Anna is a strong FMC and her guys are her fated mates, it's a lot for her to go through but she takes it in stride. It's a fast paced read, and a great cast of characters that you'll learn to love.

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Wow just wow.

This was my first adventure into ellie horns writing and it was totally amazing. This author has everything it takes to suck you in and take you for a ride from the first chapter.

And then leaves you with a cliff hanger that just makes you want more and more and I am so glad I have the arc for the second book straight away.

The only downfall I found in the book and in saying this it was only a small one was the use of the aussie slang. Honestly im australian and none of us speak like that so it was kinda annoying haha.

I cant wait to venture more into what anna is and how her relationship with the boys pans out.

Bravo on a book that i will read again and again.

When I saw how long this book was, I admit that I was apprehensive because it's a long book. But I was so wrong and this book was wonderful! This book was entrancing and I read all 400 pages in a few days. The author did a fantastic job developing the characters fully and creating an entire universe for them to live in. I found all of them to be endearing and likeable and was immediately pulled into their universe at the academy. Since this book was the first in a series and had to do a lot of plot and character development, it was necessarily a bit slow and felt a touch drawn out at times. Overall, this book was great, the series is captivating, and I absolutely can't wait to read the next one!!

What happened to Anna?
A horrible accident robbed her of her memories. She remembers nothing of her past even if her body sometimes reacts in ways she can’t imagine, as if her muscles have memories of their own. When a monster attacks her one night, she manages to kill him. She doesn’t even know how.
After that, she meets Cara, who is a watcher and some shifters; it appears that she is not entirely human. She has powers and she has to learn how to control them.
That is the reason behind the Academy, where she will be trained together with Matt - an Australian Dire, Talakai – a Dragon and where she also meets Sebastian, who is one of the instructors. All of whom she has met in very vivid dreams.

Thank you Elle, for the opportunity to read the ARC of Phoenix Fall! I really liked the story and think there is a lot of potential for the next installments. I also liked the characters (loved Trix!) and the build up between them🔥but feel like I miss a lot of information so far. I hope this becomes more clear in the next book. There were a few things I didn't like about the flow of the story, the main thing being the way the shifters talk while shifted. I felt like this took the flow and speed out of the story. The Aussie accent was okay, but dragged on a bit to long to remain funny. All things considered, I do look forward to the next book and I loved the cliffhanger! ❤
