A lot of good recipes in here, but there are a lot of others between these pages that I wouldn't eat on a bet. The historical side of the recipes is very interesting stuff. Recommended.
There are a lot of interesting historical notes (in a slightly too-small font). The recipes are taken from various historical sources, so they're a bit difficult and complicated, and sometimes it might be hard to find the ingredients. But it's interesting enough.
English cooking during the Victorian Era could range from simple dishes to gourmet. Various actual menus of the period are discussed and the recipes provided. These meals are a delightful change of pace from our modern cuisine with its many variations.
For those (like me) who always tried to imagine the meals from Dickens or Austin, this is a combination cooking/history book with some fantastic pictures. And, yes, the recipes are "do-able"
