The Shadow Chaser

Rate this book
Dripping with suspense, this exciting new work takes the reader into an exploration of other worlds—the shadowy, edgy world of the shapeshifters. In a deceptively placid beginning to this book, young Darien Yost is living the most commonplace of lives, going about his business as most of us. In the space of an afternoon, his entire destiny is put in jeopardy. He loses consciousness suddenly and awakens disoriented after an unexplained episode. From that point forward, he is immersed in a reality he could never have imagined. Guided by opposing forces, Darien is taunted with increasingly strange and menacing incidents, the resolution of which will determine the outcome of his life and the successful fulfillment of his new abilities and powers.

The Shadow Chaser is a great urban fantasy suspense story. From the first chapter, the author draws you in to the life of Darien Yost and keeps you captivated until the last sentence. Each chapter ends with a sentence that made you want to keep reading because you have to know what’s going to happen next. The natural, supernatural and dream worlds are blended together to create a fantasy realm that is intriguing.

The word imagery is vivid and detailed, while pulling the reader into the story with descriptions that are realistic and captivating. I had a really hard time putting the book down.

I also really liked the shapeshifting concept. It was interesting to see how those who shift into animals had the characteristics of the animal they become.

Since this book is independently published, there are imperfections such as spelling and grammatical errors. I thought some areas of the story could have been a little more polished with some of sentences rewritten to better convey what the author wanted to express. I also thought that the last few chapters were rushed and not as fully developed as the rest of the book.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Shadow Chaser and as mentioned above, I had a hard time putting it down. I recommend The Shadow Chaser for anyone looking to read something different and unique.

I was blessed to meet this eccentric and fun loving bloke at the Origin Game Fair last year. Seeing how much joy and excitement he displayed about his book series, I feel terrible that I didn't have the money to buy a copy for myself. But, the moment I had the funds, and after I read my other books, I finally got a chance to read this book and, I have to say, it was well worth the wait. The pace, the characters, the plot was beautifully executed and I can't wait to continue the series.
