Most of the reviews I read about this book say it is about the mafia in Chicago. It is, but it is also the story of a man who tried to do the right thing and it totally altered his life and almost cost him his family. You seldom hear much about people that have been in the witness protection program and this book tells about a man who had to give up his house, job and even his name to testify against one of the killers in the mafia. I enjoyed this story much more than the story about the mafia. Very interesting book!

A good interesting crime story. Alot of information about the mob in Chicago, it's history and how it operates. Good story about how one "normal citizen" was willing to be a witness against a murder he witnessed. I enjoyed it.

The title of this book is so incredibly accurate. What is the price of truth? Someone trying to do the right thing, and believing in the system to protect and help him, totally had his life ruined for a number of years. The amount of corruption in the Chicago police force, and lawyers and judges, was just mind-boggling. How can anyone ever trust they’ll be treated right by the system when money speaks louder than truth? When a crime is so blatantly obvious and yet a judge rules the murderer is innocent and the witnesses are liars, is just exasperating. I was glad Bobby Lowe finally got Justice but couldn’t believe how he was treated. And yes a Carter criminal, Cooley, is treated like a king. Unbelievable. I must say, I absolutely loved how this book was written. Big, big fan!!

This book is very good. Somehow, the mafia and its hurting shenanigans is something that has always caught my interest. Probably because there are several good movies out there. "Everybody Pays" by Maurice Possley and Rick Kogan, is much different than just killings, power, family, trust, and backstabbing. This book concentrates on just 1 murder and the effect it has on one witness. Let us not forget that his whole family is also almost destroyed. There are many characters but it is so easy to remember each one. It was a fast read for me:)

This is not the typical type of book I read, but I found out very interesting! While most reviews mention this is about the mob, it was more about a man trying to do the right thing and how it impacted his life. I felt for Bob and how by doing the right thing, his family paid as well.
