Landon So much for being the golden boy. The once-fawning press called me the rising star of the NHL. Now they get their rocks off on the viral snap shot of my buck-naked backside mashed up against my penthouse’s window, tangled with an attention-hungry woman’s legs.
Goodbye, post-season winning streak. Goodbye, Stanley Cup. Goodbye, dating - not that I was doing much of that before .
My agent promises to make the rumors disappear by hiring the best lawyer in Ottawa. But Indira Davé's no longer the quiet, gawky goalie I played with in grade seven. She's all confidence and drive-you-insane curves. And that smart mouth of hers has me thinking about a thousand ways I could shut it up. Or have it scream my name.
She doesn’t trust me, but I can't unsee the real Indi. If she lets me in, I'll never let her go.
Indi Nope. There's no way I still have that pubescent crush on Landon Radek. Doesn’t matter how outrageously good-looking he is, I won’t fall for his charm or dimpled smile this time.
I'm his lawyer. He's my lying-through-his-teeth client. And I hate him. For reasons I’d rather leave in the past.
A half-bottle of red wine has me blurting a precious secret and Landon comes up with a filthy proposition. If I accept it - BIG if with a capital I - I have strict rules.
Feelings are an absolute no-go. Both of our careers hinge on the utmost discretion. Though, the more he proves he’s still the boy I adored many years ago, the less control I have over my well-protected heart.

First, I want to congratulate Ruby on her debut novel, and I'm thankful that you gave me an ARC. Thank you so much for the opportunity! I enjoyed reading about Landon and Indira's love story and following the other characters throughout the book. I'm curious if the side characters will get their own books?
The story follows Landon Radek and Indira (Indi) Dave. They were good friends and teammates when they played on the same team. Fast forward years later, they meet again, but this time they aren't friends. Indi is now his lawyer, and Landon is her client because he found himself in a scandal. They are now forced to work togetherand feelings start to spark up again after years apart.
When I say he was obsessed, HE WAS OBSESSED. I was literally giggling like a little schoolgirl when he showered her with physical touch and words of love. He showed her that through his actions, he really cared for her. I JUST FOUND A NEW BOOK BOYFRIEND💕. I was glad that we didn't only have happy topics, but sad topics too, such as how Indi was torn down by her past experiences and learning to love herself again, with Landon helping her discover herself. I first thought Indi was a man-hater when the book started, but I grew to love her through her story.
If you're looking for a spicy, heartwarming, and cute story with South Asian representation (we love desi here), this book is for you 100%. I highly recommend it!💕

[arc review] Thank you to the author, Ruby Rana, for providing an arc in exchange for an honest review. Shap Shot releases August 23, 2023
Snap Shot is the first book in the Ottawa Regents series and features: - dual pov - Canadian setting - South Asian rep - hockey player x lawyer - childhood friends turned friends with benefits - he falls first and hard - virgin heroine
A compromising photo of Landon with the team’s ex-publicist having sex was posted online and shared to various sites. With this scandal costing the team the Stanley Cup win, and painting Landon as a playboy, they’ve recruited a lawyer to polish up his image and set things straight. But his lawyer, Indi, is not just a regular old lawyer… she also happens to have known Landon when they were kids and both played on the same hockey team in middle school.
I feel so conflicted because there were a few things that I liked, but also many things that I struggled with while reading.
The beginning of the story was a bit rough for me to get through. There were a lot of characters introduced in such a short amount of time, and the characters really came across as immature, even with taking the nature of typical locker room chat into consideration.
This book was long, and a lot of the opening chapters definitely could have cut down on repetition. Quite a few of them would have a scene from one character’s pov and have it progress by days, and then when it alternated to the other pov, it would reverse back by however much time and repeat the entire scene over, which felt like taking three steps forward and two steps back.
For the most part, I liked Landon and Indi, and appreciated how he was able to aid in the development of Indi being able to gain back some confidence that tied back to past bullying and SA. There was a clear set of boundaries that were established, and I commend Indi for not folding and being able to withhold penetration and kissing on the mouth for 80% of the book. That being said, the transition to get there felt extremely forced. I just don’t buy the fact that they both ended up at the same hotel in Whistler of all places and were over-booked into the same room?! It’s not like they whimsically took a staycation an hour drive outside of where they live in Ottawa and it would be like running into someone at the same coffee shop… Whistler is a pretty deliberate trip across the country involving a flight and an additional lengthy drive. Maybe I’m thinking too much into it because it’s in the province I live in, but the placement of it in the story came out of nowhere.
Landon… oh boy. He fell, and he fell hard. This man was whipped! On one hand, he would do cute things like buy Indi a menstrual cup, comfort food, and heating pads, but on the other hand, he gave me red flags that I can’t ignore. Near the beginning, he downed half of a bottle of whiskey in the early hours of the morning with such ease, and then proceeded to have a fit of rage so strong that he lashed out and smashed a glass cup against his cupboards. And then that scene after their game in Montreal, where he became so possessive and went after another player and locked Indi in his car with a childproof lock. I get that the whole “you’re mine” possessiveness is supposed to come across as endearing, but all I could see was someone becoming aggressive at the blink of an eye, and it was scary. Is this me projecting past trauma and personal experience? Maybe. But I feel like people with first hand knowledge of individuals that express this type of behaviour would definitely pick up on the things that I am.
Other things that bothered me were just word choices and phrases like: - “my tent flaps twitch” (didn’t know there was something worse than folds, but I was proved wrong) - “collecting water in the skin of his nutsack” - “brain no worky” - “stuff his gyro meat into your slobber pocket” - constantly calling his appendage a third leg
At the end of the day, I’m glad they worked through their third-act break up conflict, but at the same time, I was surprised that she wasn’t more upset about his teammates finding out about them because it didn’t seem like it lined up with her characteristics.
The South Asian rep was really good and there were definitely things I was able to learn in terms of culture.
I’m feeling a bit unresolved about Indi’s final career choices and thought her lawyer skills weren’t present enough in the first half. I also can not wrap my head around the fact that Landon’s parents got divorced when he was a kid, yet decades later they still live with each other even though his father has a boyfriend?? Like, your children are grown married adults with kids of their own. It doesn’t make sense.
edited to add: In my original review, I made a comment in regard to felching and how it was heavily used in the pre-release tropes. The author then had the audacity to dm me through a separate app to ask if I knew the correct definition of it, which I felt very uncomfortable about. I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt, but I've since seen proof of them breaking the reader/review space again and that's not cool. I won't be reading anything further from this author lmao
Thank you to the author for the opportunity to read this advanced reader copy. This honest review was based off my experience reading this eARC, which in no way biased me. All opinions are my own.
This is a new to me author, of course since this is their debut, but I came across this book and the author on instagram. I saw that their ARC applications were open, and this looked to be something that was right up my alley.
Unfortunately, while I have discovered a few of my favorite authors using this method, this was not the case for this situation.
If you enjoyed this book I’m so happy for you, I wish I did.
I did not enjoy most of this book. Whether we are talking about the writing itself, the story, or what was happening. I did enjoy the representation, but that is where my enjoyment ended.
While this author did include a content/trigger warning list, at least to me I feel like it should have been a bit more specific. The “…past sexual assault…” mention on the list does not accurately depict the pretty graphic non consensual flashback to her in college with her boyfriend at the time forcing her to give him a blowjob. Not to mention the placement of this scene is right before she gets intimate with her current partner in a similar situation. I felt like the past trauma could have been there without the actual scene in it, authors can get their point across without actually having to graphically depict what happened.
I also felt like while it included the FMC’s own internalized fatphobia, there was a decent amount of just blatant outright fatphobia thrown in here in one off comments that are completely unnecessary. Like the FMC’s coworker commenting on how the FMC “is always eating” Nutella sandwiches. Or when the FMC and her friends are out and they are eating whatever and them having to “stop/not to because it will go straight to their hips”.
There is also a decent amount of casual misogyny, yes, most of it was “locker room” talk with hockey players, but still. It’s to like an extreme level in my opinion.
I have several issues with the author’s choice in description/dialogue/honestly whatever you want to call this. Here are some examples: “My brain short-circuits at the sight of those tight muscles: pecs and arms and abs and thighs and asses, flexing and straining as they chase each other, sword-fighting with their...oh, my God. They're fully-grown, alright. Fully-grown penises. They fist the enormous things in their equally enormous hands.”
“Twenty-pack abs” I think this one is actually humanly impossible
“My tent flaps twitch. Easy girl.” Please never refer to a pussy as this. Thank you.
“Your green bean has nothing on He-Man.” I’m sorry WHAT
“Yes! I saw his wiener! And it was no regular wiener. It was an extra-large wiener!” What 28 year old thinks like this?
“The baby boner I had for her in grade seven has ballooned into a big boy boner. A man boner.” Again, what 28 year old thinks like this?
“It has no business floating in here to make all my essential organs throb. Especially not the one between my legs.” Nope.
“The big one.” I’ll give you one guess what this is referring to
“Your thunder-down-under” no comment
“You gonna let him”—she waggles her eyebrows, then creates an o with one hand and pokes the index finger of the other through it, whistling once—“wet your whistle?” Dear god, what is this?
“It's time, my friend. I say, let the man play your vocal cords like a violin.” Absolutely not.
“Do him! Do him! Put his crocodile in your swamp!” WHY?
“Swirl his meat tornado through your southern region!” WHAT THE FUCK?
“Stuff his gyro meat into your slobber pocket!” First tent flaps now slobber pocket? Fucking YIKES
Honestly I think the author was trying to put the “comedy” in “romantic comedy” with some of these and unfortunately failed, because to me this isn’t funny it made me physically recoil and put the book down for a breather. Anyway there are so many more like this but if I kept going I’d probably hit a review character limit on good reads for this review anyway. The point is CRINGE in the worst way. Honestly if you set this in high school or maybe even in college this would feel more age realistic. Honestly if this was set in either of those “times” the characters of Indi and Landon would have fit better because they do act like teens, barely twenty somethings, not two people who are almost thirty?
As for the actual writing itself, there’s like chapter pauses where natural chapters should end and then time jumps in the middle of chapters without warning or lead up. It feels very jarring, because instead of having like a page break for like a few weeks passing by. What is done it feels like a montage voiceover where in the middle of a paragraph it would say “I spent several days/weeks doing blah blah blah”
The dual POV chapters get a bit convoluted because we see many of the same scenes repeated through the other’s POV. So we move a pretty decent amount forward from one POV, and then by the next chapter when the POV changes we have to hit rewind and relive the same scene a second time. This got so jarring I thought the same scene had been copy and pasted accidentally in the wrong place. It honestly felt like when you were watching a movie and you rewind it 15 minutes, even though you were paying attention, just for funzies to relive the scene again. Many dual POV books do not have this “retelling the scene in the other POV as soon as the POV switches” because it’s not necessary. Usually you can read between the lines to see what the other person is thinking without them having to say it or be in their heads for it.
I believe this might be one of the reasons for the length, this book is close to 500 pages and it feels so unnecessary. I swear it would be like I was reading for an hour and only progressed like less than 5% in the book.
The pacing, honestly I could not keep track of, if you asked me to tell you how long this book covered from start to finish I probably couldn’t even give you a ball park accurate number of days, weeks, or months. But this might be because of the constant jumping forward and backwards. By the time I was oriented as to WHEN I was, the story would jump or the POV would switch and I’d have to reorient myself.
Some of the tropes the author markets this book as: forced proximity, boy obsessed, cinnamon roll hero, but the one I really wanna focus on is the childhood friends to strangers to FWB to lovers.
I hesitate to call whatever Indi and Landon have as friends with benefits. We definitely see a lot of the benefits bit, but not enough of the friends bit. The whole estrangement from childhood friends to strangers happened over Indi getting bullied by the other guys on their hockey team when they were in 7th grade. Landon was her “friend” then but didn’t stick up for her against his friends aka her bullies and she overhears a conversation that she holds a grudge for a long time. (Or does she because towards the end when Landon meets her parents and they disclose some pretty embarrassing things about Indi, it does not sound like she hated him and held a grudge at all). 9 out of 10 times when they are communicating, either via text/call, or in person it always either starts or ends with the benefits bit. There’s a scene where the benefits cannot be done because Indi is on her period and he is “jokingly” disappointed that said benefits can’t happen (and she gets mad, as she should) he brushes it off saying it was a joke. Then goes and gets her supplies to make her feel better.
Anyway, while Indi is meant to be representing him for a scandal that ended up with his whole ass being leaked in a photo of him sleeping with another woman, (after avoiding him for weeks) she finally buckles up and starts doing her job. But there are so many discrepancies in the whole law/lawyer content of this book, but I don’t want to get into that. I get that it’s a romance book so it will be more focused on the romance aspect than her job, but we barely even get mentions of her actually doing work/gathering evidence which is why her pulling out all that, out of nowhere info on the other woman accusing Landon was so surprising.
They start “becoming friends” again because you remember that grudge she had been holding on for 15 years? Yeah, it was a HUGE misunderstanding. (Not really) he didn’t stick up for her because then HE would have also been bullied for associating with her. She gets over it and then the whole “physical” side of their relationship moves VERY FAST. Which is fine, but the fact that her potentially losing her job, a job that she took this case to become a partner for, is just so shocking to me. And they were so bad at keeping it a secret.
From then on it felt like the only times that they would talk or get together was for the “benefits” part of the “friends with benefits”arrangement, like i mentioned earlier. How do you call yourself friends when you haven’t even figured out what each others future look like (yes this becomes a thing in the future). How can you progress so far into the not friends lots of benefits arrangement, go so far as to not only catch feelings, but actually fall in love with each other (now did they really fall in love? How could they when they really don’t know much about each other) AND NOT REALIZE Y’ALL’S STANCE ON MARRIAGE IS ON THE OPPOSITE SIDES OF THE SPECTRUM? Yes, this is their third act breakup (WELL INTO PAST 85% INTO THE BOOK, but that’s a whole separate issue).
I don’t understand the trend of putting your breakup/conflict so late into the story and just time jumping a few months and call it good. We need to be able to see them separately in the conflict/breakup to see them come to the realization of why they need to get back together. But surprise surprise. The person who has been always compromising (or should I say not having any stances on things EXCEPT THIS ONE THING) is the on to change his mind. No compromise. It’s my way or the highway basically.
Landon himself has his own fair share of childhood trauma that stems from his parents divorcing when he was 12. His father came out of the closet and then his parents divorced, yet continued living in the same house. So naturally 12 year old Landon developed an aversion to marriage. One of his only more serious relationships ended because of the difference of opinion on marriage. He tells Indi this (about why his previous relationship ended and she knew about the divorce when they were children), but they don’t go further on their personal stances on marriage. If I as the reader can sense his hesitation on marriage, Indi, being the brilliant lawyer she is, should have been able to deduce this and start a conversation when this thing they had started being “real”. Instead though she just assumes that he didn’t want to marry his previous girlfriend because they were both so young.
Now, Indi had the opposite issue on the whole marriage front. She grew up with her parents having a magical loving relationship and how it was a classic example of a Bollywood romance. She wants all the bells and whistles of a wedding and a marriage. Once both of their stances on marriage come out they break up and Indi takes a 2 months leave of absence from work to visit India and get set up to marry someone. Landon is left pining for her constantly texting and calling her until she picks up to tell him where she’s at. And he says “none of them are as good for you as I am.” And she responds with “well, they actually want to marry me, so…” and goes on further to guilt trip him by saying “You robbed me, Landon. Maybe it was too soon, but I had a whole life - an actual future- imagined for us. I would’ve waited. You didn’t want it, so don’t try to make me feel guilty.”
Landon also has a few red flags that made me very uncomfortable. The way that he’s able to down vast amounts of hard liquor, on an empty stomach, is a bit off putting. It’s not until he had some MAJOR MAJOR anger issues that resulted in breaking glass? Yeah, I was not rooting for him. The breaking point for me was when he became so possessive and locked Indi in the car and went back to go fight another player as if he has no regards to his job or his hands. You know, the hands he needs to professionally play hockey. I can see what the author was intending to do with this but it did not translate well in my opinion. The aggression, possessiveness, anger issues, and the drinking these all add up to the solution being running as fast as you can away from him. These scenes over shadowed the “cute wholesome” scenes for me. He even goes as far as to accuse Indi of flirting with another player when she was literally speaking to him. And then he claims that “no one should touch what’s his”, yeah this line does not work very well in a contemporary setting.
Eventually, she does not get married in India and goes back home, quits her job as a lawyer (which to be honest she should have gotten disbarred for getting involved with an active client but we won’t get into that and all the ethics she broke, so much for ‘best lawyer in Ottawa”) to coach an all women’s league of hockey. And naturally Landon is cured of his trauma, with a single conversation with his parents, that made him avoid marriage and goes back to Indi saying how he changed his mind.
Because this whole book is him not having any opinions or stances. Everything is being controlled by Indi, which good because she has rules, but it’s always her TAKING and never giving. She just assumes he’s going to do what she wants and then he does.
I also hesitate to call Landon a cinnamon roll hero, I wouldn’t call him a himbo either (no matter what Indi and the author say about his twenty pack abs). He does and says some of the stupidest things I’ve ever read in a book. But Indi is also supposed to be brilliant and we rarely see her doing her job except when its time to settle for Landon’s case and then she pulls out all this info, and has pieced together what the woman accusing Landon was doing and she “miraculously” wins the settlement.
While we are on this topic of Indi doing some dumb shit as well, let’s get into it. Having a sex toy at work, not locking the door to your office AND putting on headphones so you can’t hear someone knock or walk in, and choosing to masturbate during working hours, and putting yourself in a position WHERE YOUR CLIENT CAN AND DID WALK IN ON YOU SAYING HIS NAME WHILE YOU’RE DOING YOUR BUSINESS? Absolutely not. At least the second time something like this happens the door is locked, the third time it’s not locked until they get interrupted and THEN THEY LOCK THE DOOR.
For it being you know, unethical and can cost her her job, and license to be a lawyer, you would think they would be more quiet about it, not only did his teammates see them walk out of a room looking freshly fucked, but her friends clocked it SO SOON. And they are really not as clever as they think they are inventing Gym Guy and Gym Girl, ESPECIALLY NOT WHEN THEY ACTUALLY FIND EACH OTHER THERE WITH THEIR FRIENDS. Like come on people, it did not take Sherlock to figure that one out.
I really was hoping their relationship was going to be outed, by either a reporter since they weren’t being super sneaky and he is a public figure, or the opposing lawyers, or even her boss? Like having her do this and still be offered a promotion, that she turns down anyway, just seems like there really was no risk for her when in reality this could have and would have ruined her, his career would have been fine. Like the fact that this wasn’t even like a more major conversation, seems wild to me.
I also wish that with the bullying of her body that she experienced as a kid would have been elaborated more on how she got past that. Or like her issues with her own body dysmorphia. She only comments on how “she was fat” and obviously she isn’t anymore. But she clearly has other self-esteem/self-image issues that she has never really unpacked. And only get resolved through her relationship with Landon. Which of course we love when a man showing interest in her makes her realize that she’s WORTH people being interested in her.
I WISH I would have liked this book, you have no idea. I don’t go into books expecting not to like them. This is not an attack on the author, they’re my opinions.
Overall, this was a bad time for me, and I could go on, but I don’t want to because I would like to delete this from my brain, thanks.
i had fun! this is well written and indi + landon are very entertaining, both individually and as a couple. however, this was a little bit too long for me and almost lost me for a bit a few times, as there was nothing really going on. overall, it was a lovely experience
Snap Shot is a fun hockey romance featuring Landon, a Czech Canadian playboy hockey player, and Indira, a South Asian Canadian lawyer assigned to represent him when Landon finds himself in a PR scandal. Before Landon and Indira were a star hockey player and lawyer, they were best friends in middle and high school when they played on the same youth hockey team. Their lawyer x client relationship quickly turns into a forbidden friends with benefits relationship, with the two barreling down the path of love.
Overall, I enjoyed Landon and Indira's relationship! You could clearly see how obsessed Landon was with Indira and how he truly couldn't get enough of her. Their scenes together definitely had me melting. I also loved how Indira stood her ground about the terms of their relationship and demanded respect from Landon, especially with her trauma from the sexual assault and abuse she endured in her previous relationship.
I will admit that some of the humor in the book felt outdated. The constant sexual jokes in both Landon and Indira's POVs felt crass and immature for grown adults. The locker room talk in the beginning of the novel was also uncomfortable to read. I understand that Landon is a playboy star hockey player and therefore a little douche-y (granted, he does go through a TON of character development in this book), but the continuous perverted jokes still made me cringe while reading. I hope the upcoming novels following Landon's teammates do not continue this kind of humor because it will be hard to root for them in their own books. I'd knock off a star for my rating just for this, but the book was enjoyable otherwise!
A series?? Set in Ottawa?? My home city?? There’s no way I could NOT read this one! I was so excited when I received this ARC and it really didn’t disappoint.
Landon reminded me so much of Carter Beckett from Consider Me. They both have this goofy, golden retriever, woman obsessed “I’m on my knees for this woman and this woman only” personality that I absolutely ATEEEEEE up. He was so understanding, passionate, possessive (🤤), and so so loving AND ALSO HAD A FILTHY ASS MOUTH. Landon really did make me blush and I am not ashamed to say it. He says jump, I say how high.
Indi was such a strong female lead! She’s powerful, intelligent, courageous, hilarious - OH AND SHE HAD A FILTHY MOUTH TOO. The South Asian rep was amazing and I feel like I learned a lot about their culture which was so cool to read about
Landon and Indi had really great chemistry and I found myself falling in love with their growing relationship. They started off as friends with benefits but really blossomed into something so much deeper than that. As great as the spicy scenes were (and omg there was so many), their soft fluffy moments had a hold on my heart 💜
Ruby did an amazing job with her debut and I would definitely recommend this to anyone! The only thing that stood out to me was the transition between scenes - sometimes I got confused and had no idea how we got somewhere
Overall - I really enjoyed this and I cannot wait to continue the rest of the series! I hope Wade and Gabe are next 😩
Thank you so much to Ruby and her team for providing me with an arc in exchange for an honest review!
firstly i wanna thank ruby for an e-arc but if you’re looking for: opposites attract, forced proximity, forbidden love w hella pining and angst take a chance on this debut novel. this was such a sweet and spicy hockey romance with a boss bitch (lawyer) heroine and a sunshine coded MMC. The story follows Landon and Indira (Indi) who were friends and teammates once upon a time, but then after a few years she’s now his lawyer and they’re no longer friends.
Obvi with the forced proximity feelings start arising and the two are just so UGHHHH???
anyways i was kicking and giggling my legs they were so cute and I LOVE ME A BOY OBSESSED MAN WHICH LANDON WAS.
I was excited to pick this one up. The heroine's a lawyer, he's a hockey player, there's South Asian rep, they knew each other as teens. Forbidden romance since she represents him. It had the makings for a great story.
However - the plotting/writing of the book was SO chaotic. Lots of information wasn't needed at all for the story, some scenes went on for too long and were boring and transitions were either abrupt or nonexistent. This needed major editing on the developmental side because it basically read as a bunch of plot ideas on paper without good execution.
Two stars are for the main characters being likeable, their chemistry was good together, and the South Asian rep. Will I read the next books? That's going to be a hard MAYBE, because I could see who the future couples would be, but the writing would have to improve drastically for me to pick up her books again.
Do you ever read a book and you can see why people would like it, but it just doesn’t totally do it for you?
For one, I always get the ick in a book when the premise is the hero being involved in a sex scandal. Landon sleeps with his old PR manager, and even though he doesn’t do the things she claimed (lead her on, promise her job back), he still had a one night stand with her and is photographed doing it.
I just don’t know how people find it hot and Indi says she imagines it as herself in fantasies - ew - and I don’t know. It leads to her being his lawyer and grilling him about sexual details and I didn’t want them lol! Of course he gets all hurt she doesn’t realize he’s not a playboy. But I just was already soured on him.
Ok so the characters.
Indi. My first thought - who the hell uses a vibrator at work?? That, and some of her super drunk moments made me pause, since they didn’t seem fitting with her character.
I could see why a lot of people would be frustrated by her. She stays cold and distant for a long time.
Landon. I feel like he was trying to become a dream book boyfriend, but I just wasn’t buying it.
His constant innuendos and teammates came across as immature to me.
I just needed more from him. Why did he like Indi so much so fast? Yes they had a past when they’re little, but it felt like obsession for the sake of the trope sometimes.
Their relationship Ok so Indi holds this grudge against Landon since they were 11 and then it’s resolved in like 1 second?
So when they decide to become friends with some benefits and we learn history, it’s my dreaded scenario. Even though he’s not a player, Landon has had relationships and great sex, and Indi is a virgin with terrible experiences.
Her past actually included more than shame and has a forced bj scene so if you’re sensitive to that, be aware! It’s also juxtaposed to her going down on Landon which felt like an odd choice.
Also … I’ve decided I prefer open door romances buuuut I prefer more emotional connection and building that in a slow burn way. This was mostly physical for a while and even though they’re technically not going all the way, I wanted more connection and also because it’s secret they can’t even go out or do things.
I never thought I’d say this but there’s way too much sex - I started to skim those scenes! I became concerned for how hard he was all the time. Their privates had to be hurting.
Some good things I do like that Indi sets rules and Landon never pushes her to go at a pace she’s not comfortable with.
I also love that she acknowledges how it’s off putting that he’s been with others yet he’s had more of her than anyone - I think that’s always my issue in the experienced/inexperienced trope so I was glad it was put into words!
I also liked how her culture is important to her and represented, and how she sticks up for wanting a marriage and her traditions.
The ending I actually liked the angst of the end and their break, I’m glad neither of them instantly folded on their stance on marriage. But their reunion left something to be desired by me?? I think we should’ve seen more of them in their time apart, more of Landon changing his mind, and it should’ve been a more slow get back together. If he didn’t see her at her game, would it have happened??
Sooo overall, it wasn’t my favorite but I did read it all and Landon ended up growing on me more than I thought. I think if their keeping things casual was a little less long and repetitive, it could be good.
I’d like a book on his friend Jaeger and Skylar, and Bea and Donovan, but it’s looking like the next one will be Wade.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This book had potential but sadly didn't reach it. One of the best books I've read with good South Asian/Indian rep though.
The book started off very well, I was drawn into the story right away. The MCs aren't necessarily enemies but they do have a past and that's one of my favorite tropes, so I was ready to sink into the story. Sadly, once the MCs have a talk and clear the air around the 30% mark, it got boring real fast. I really couldn't feel the chemistry between them, all they did was hump like rabbits with the MMC simping hard for the FMC. Which in and of itself isn't a bad thing but the way it was done here wasn't great. The FMC is supposed to be body conscious and not experienced with men but she suddenly is an almost domme with the MMC. Other than their past connection when they were teens, they don't have anything to hold on to. The author never builds on that foundation, there is nothing new about their personalities that they discover because they are busy humping. And that brings me back to the "relationship" aspect of it - there isn't one. The sex was repetitive and way too much, without any reason for it being there. I am no prude and enjoy smut in books but this was way too excessive without it adding anything to the story or the MCs dynamic. There is no personal growth story, the case against the MMC which the FMC is handling never gets discussed until the very end, other than a few sentences thrown in here and there. This book could have been great with a good editor taking out at least 150 pages of unnecessary, repetitive smut from around the 30% mark to 70%, making it a far more well paced, hockey romance because the prose, the characterizations and the South Asian rep were on point.
When hockey player Landon finds himself in the middle of a media scandal, his childhood friend Indi ends up being the person called to help clean up his mess. Indi's not the same shy and timid girl that Landon once knew all those years ago. She's a fierce and fiery lawyer that takes no sh*t, especially from Landon.
I had so much fun reading this book and falling HARD for Landon and Indi. Landon is 1000% a new book boyfriend. He's so yummy and the perfect combination of sweet, sexy and oh SO dirty. He's the ultimate example of "if a man wanted to, he would." His displays of affection had me swooning and I just overall loved how hard he fell for Indi. Indi was HOT HOT. Both Indi and Landon had my jaw on the floor from their banter, teasing, flirtation and dirty talk. I Ioved all of the side characters, especially Wade and Gabe and I'm excited for this series to play out!!
My fav quotes-
“I fucking hate when you tease me.” Silence fills the next few seconds as her eyes dart between mine, dark pupils growing to replace the rich browns of her eyes. “Prove it.” It's a sultry challenge. “Show me how much you hate it.”
“I like that you're sharp as hell. And I like your smart mouth.” Wetting his lips, he lowers to my ear to whisper, “I have so many ideas about how to make it shut up.”
“You don't think you have any of my firsts, but you do. You were my first crush. There's a slice of myself that I kept for you. I didn't realize it until we met again, but it's always been yours.”
Thank you Ruby Rana for letting me read an ARC of this book. ❤️
Y’all this was such an amazing book. First off. It’s a hockey romance (literally say less, I’m already sold. 😂) But it was so much more too! We really get to see Indi represent her culture and how she brought Landon into that. (He was so into the Bollywood movies and I loved it.) These two are literally made for each other. I adored Landon and the patience he had with Indy. She set ground rules for him about what she was willing to give and he followed those, never pressuring her for more than she was willing to give. They really go through a journey together and watching as those walls between them began to crumble was everything. So if you love a hockey romance, with a golden retriever MMC that KNOWS how to talk dirty and a strong woman who takes no crap. This is the book for you!
she was friends with him while playing the boys' hockey team since there wasn’t one for girls. until one day their friendship stops. years go by, he becomes a successful nhl player and she becomes a pretty good damn lawyer. and when he suddenly gets his ass into trouble, guess who might just become his lawyer?
sweet, emotional and sexy romance.
this was a re-read before the book will be off wattpad but i can’t wait to get it on my shelf as well.
indi is such a strong and independent fmc and i loved just reading about her life wins and struggles as well. her powerfull ass also handled the case well. she knows her worth and what she wants.
landon is what you want to call a clueless puppy sometimes . but he’s also lovable. he’s one of the best book bfs and manages to give our girl what she deserves.
i loved learning new info about the traditions that are foreign to me. but i also loved the slavic representation because i have not read many books where the people aren't from russia or france when they have european ancestors (no hate, i still love books with those). and me being czech i also appreciated reading some czech words in the book (like our delicious food).
this book deserves all the recognition it gets.

This was a lot of fun! I loved living with these characters, because I absolutely felt immersed right in there with them! I instantly loved the hockey team from the start, and went into instant Mother Mode needing to protect them, especially Landon. When Landon’s image is slandered in the media, the team takes a hit. Enter lawyer boss b!tch Indi…who happens to not be a stranger to Landon. There’s a lot of hidden, harbored, emotions between them. It created an unpleasant environment for them at the start. But then, it created lovely tension, that I was definitely a fan of! They literally try to escape each other, and the universe says ‘sorry, not happening’. After the long awaited apology, things started to slot into place. I was unprepared for many things. Landon’s mouth. The dynamic switch. Indie’s inner goddess. Landon was a goner, but I didn’t realize how much further he could possibly fall! They had undeniable chemistry that I couldn’t get enough of! The only thing I didn’t enjoy, Indie’s approach to their situation. Poor man was dragged through the mud so she could protect her own heart. In the long run, I understand it though. When they finally confessed their hearts…mine nearly exploded! I wanted to highlight everything that man said, and not just the dirty stuff either!

Omg you guys Landon and Indi have me in a chokehold 😭
This book was so good! It was hilarious, steamy af, and had some emotional parts.
My heart was hurting for Indi during some of the flashbacks, but I absolutely loved how Landon was always there for her, even when they were kids.
He is the SWEETEST ( who also has the dirtiest mouth ever.) and was down so bad for Indi the entire book. He broke down her walls, and once she fully let him in, their connection just grew stronger.
"I want Indi to look at me like this forever. Starry-eyed. Happy. Sated. And I want to be the reason for it."
Seriously, you should see how many freaking highlights I have of this book. I can't stop smiling thinking of them hahaha.
Everyone go pick up this masterpiece!
You got Professional hockey player/lawyer, forbidden romance, second chance, friends to strangers to lovers. So so good!
4.5⭐ First things first, the desi rep in this book was immaculate! This book was everything you will want from a book and more! The characters are just so heart warming! The black cat lawyer with a sassy tongue and golden retriever hockey player made up for the perfect pair!!! Their chemistry was palpable! Indi was my sensitive girl and Landon was just the one she needed to stand with her and encourage her to fight her insecurities. Landy was a cuddly teddy bear and SUPER attentive, I want him for myself. The communication aspect of this book was amazing! Not to mention, the found family in this book!!!! Oh my gosh, I LOVED that Landon and Indi had their own close knit friend group that they spent time with. Even the side characters were so entertaining! I loved each and every desi and bollywood reference in this book. Ruby has outdone herself with her debut novel! You need to read this book if you love: ✨Desi/South Asian/Indian rep ✨Reverse grumpy sunshine ✨Sports romance (ice hockey) ✨Forbidden romance (lawyer × client) ✨Found family ✨He likes being the small spoon ✨Knew each other since childhood ✨Oops we broke the bed ✨He gets her iced lattes, walks on the side of the road, keeps a hand on the side of the table when she bends down to pick up something. ✨Spice, so much spice that it makes you a horndog
Thank you to the author for an eArc of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I really really wanted to like this book but unfortunately, this one just wasn’t for me. I can understand why people would love this story, but there were a few things that held me back from being able to do the same.
I found there were too many characters introduced which left me confused trying to remember who was who, and I didn’t really gel with the important characters. I struggled with the writing as I found it quite repetitive. I’m normally a big fan of dual POV but I didn’t like how one chapter would end and the next chapter would jump back a give the opposite POV of the same scene, even when it seems like such a big amount of time has passed. I think this added to the book being as long as it was, which I don’t feel it needed to be. The plot was also lacking for me sadly. I thought there would be more focus on the court case and the work that Indi puts into helping Landon prove his innocence rather than having such a small part of the book really be about that plot point.
There were parts of the book that I did enjoy and this was a fairly fun read! It did have me gasping at points and laughing at others, but not enough for me to give it a higher rating. There was clear set ups for future books in the series, and I would be intrigued to see more of some of the side characters!
• Hockey Romance • Secret Relationship • Childhood Friends • Lawyer FMC • Friends With Benefits • One Bed • Cinnamon Roll MMC • South Asian Rep • Forced Proximity • Witty Banter
Landon and Indi were on the same hockey team when they were kids. Indi was bullied a lot and one day the bullying bled into her friendship with Landon which immediately made her cut him out of her life and they never spoke again. Fast forward years later Landon’s in the NHL and his bare butt is all over the internet along with a woman who is spreading lies about him. His manager gets in contact with Indi, who is now a lawyer that just won an important case, and suddenly she’s seeing her ex friend for the first time in a long time. Feelings come rushing back, their past is discussed and one mishap leads to flirting which snowballs into friends with benefits and then they quickly find themselves entangled in secrets.
This book was fun and spicy. I really enjoyed the dynamic and the banter between the main characters. They constantly joked and picked on one another and were so cute together. The scene where Indi goes to Landon’s game, so freaking cute. I laughed, died of mortification and awed all throughout this book.
Both Landon and Indi have a great group of friends. Wade was hilarious, don’t even get me started on the sword fighting scene and I don’t mean actual swords. Landon has a dirty dirty dirty mouth and he always aims to please. Indi is a take no shit kind of girl, she’s got a smart mouth on her and she isn’t afraid to use it.
If you enjoy Meghan Quinn’s books you should definitely check this out!
if someone asks me to describe SNAP SHOT in four words, then this would be the answer and i dare you to say otherwise.
this book, THIS F*CKING BOOK!!!!! from the very first page, i had this huge smile on my face and i knew i was a goner for this book 😭 ruby has this magic of capturing you with her words and make you giggle, scream, kick your legs in the air and sa-woon over her characters. it was impossible to not fall in love with landon and indi. their chemistry is so cute and even though they had their ups and downs, they were too much in love to not fight for each other!!!! although you might want to smack them for being sometimes being idiots 😭 and oh the smuts between them 🤰🏻 all i want to say is, i deserve a landon radek to my indira davé 😭🤚
also can we talk about the friends group?!?! both landon and indi have different friends group but my god they're so freaking adorable!!!!! this is one of the things i loved so much in this book!!!

4 ⭐️
Landon and Indi’s story is a sports romance full of spice and swoon worthy moments! I was hooked since the beginning :)
They start as friends with semi-benefits, with some strict rules, but we all know rules are made to be broken and their relationship is not the exception, as the lines start to get blurry they found themselves falling for each other HARD.
Landon was literally over the heels for Indi and i was completely obsessed with that, Indi was a badass and girl boss which again I was completely obsessed 😭😭 this book made me feel everything… a swooning heart and a broken heart, their chemistry was undeniable and the banter and tension between them was *cheff kiss* i think my favorite scene was when Indi went to Landon’s game i was SCREAMING
I definitely enjoyed this book, and I hope y’all feel the same if you decide to give it a try! To finish, thank you so much Ruby Rana for the e-arc provided <3
This book played like a favorite tv series in my head. All the drama. Fun. Spice. And just feel good magic. There was nothing about Landon or indi I didn’t absolutely love. Cannot wait for more of this series.
This book is so cute and fun! I enjoyed a lot reading about Landon and Indira’s journey. Their chemistry and relationship are amazing! A steamy and heartwarming story!
Forbidden Love ✔️ Hockey Player x Lawyer ✔️ Friends to Lovers ✔️ One Bed ✔️ He Falls First ✔️
If someone could force you into a hockey era, Ruby Rana would be that person. For a debut novel, she is a force to be reckoned with. I am officially in love with Landon Radek and extremely angry that such a perfect specimen does not exist.
I would like to thank Ruby for trusting me with an ARC! I fell in love with your words, your characters, and everything in between. The story was perfect, and everyone in the reading community needs to read it as soon as possible.
The main thing I loved about this story was the diversity. Ruby did an incredible job at representing different races, religions and beliefs. While I may be a simple white person, I loved learning about Diwali, I loved learning about transitions and more, it was fascinating and really added to the story for me. And then you have Landon Radek who is a complete God wanting to learn too? HELLO! What a perfect man! It’s about damn time we had more representation in books about women of colour and I praise Ruby for the writing she included!
So much detail went into the story with the side characters stories and the past of the main characters that you felt as if you were watching a story act out rather reading one. Sometimes you can find that a ton of information about different people can ruin a story but this only allowed to story to progress and feel more relatable.
Indira Davé is a hot shot lawyer who has everything she could need at the click of her fingers, expect she wants to become partner at her firm and succeed in life completely. Headstrong and powerful, nothing is too much for Indi, that is until she finds out about Landon Radek and her past slowly comes into view. Refusing to let her heart get hurt yet again, boundaries are set by herself, but is Landon going to allow these boundaries to stay or will he push?
Landon Radek is seen as a typical playboy but as you grow to know him, you learn that he’s anything but and if anything, it just makes you fall more in love with him. He’s a sweetheart and a golden retriever rolled into one, determined to prove himself to Indi, and prove himself to the world that he’s not this person that someone else has made him out to be. Does he prove that? You’re going to have to read to find out.
Finally, this was the SMUTTIEST book I have EVER READ, but goodness me, it was worth it. While I don’t enjoy a ton of smut, I do enjoy some, and yet every-time a smut scene appeared? I was left desperate for more, my mouth watering and my panties ready to be ripped. I even created my own game… take a shot every time you wish Landon Radek was praising you… Ruby balanced the smut out perfect with the plot, it all blended in together nicely.
I have no bad words about this magnificent story, I just think you need to read it as soon as possible rather than reading this review because you’re wasting your time. I CANNOT WAIT for the next book, and I will be screaming with excitement once it happens!!
When a star player for the Ottawa Regents hockey team, Landon Radek, finds himself in a scandal, successful lawyer Indira Davé is hired to help him out. Turns out, she’s Landon’s crush from their childhood. But she’s determined to not let his charm get to her.
TW: bullying, fat shaming, dubious consent scenario (all in flashbacks)
I have heard about this book and I do love me a hockey romance, even though I don’t partake in any sports myself. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. This book was cute (and very spicy) but I had some reservations.
For one, while I did sense the chemistry between Indi and Landon, it was mainly sexual, and there wasn’t much of a balance between that and romance. Not that it’s bad to have sexual energy with someone, but it made it hard to believe the romantic and tender moments if 95% of their scenes involved smut. I like to see romance develop gradually, and while that did happen in this story, I’m just not sure how. But once it got going, I really enjoyed it. (I’m also not big on smut, which is a personal preference and not the fault of the writer.)
Finally, I felt like the third act breakup was just thrown in very late into the plot. Especially considering everything I said about the smut that takes up much of the first and second acts.
Despite my criticisms, there were aspects of this book I enjoyed. I loved seeing an Indian FMC, with desi culture and Bollywood references. And Indian culture is very big on finding your match and things like that, so I felt like having the FMC be Indian added a great depth and meaning to the storyline.
I also loved Landon’s character. It’s true that I’m into athletic men, but Landon was more than that. He wasn’t cocky like most people would imagine pro-athletes to be; he was down to earth and relatable. He was like an ordinary guy navigating a relationship just like many young adults (except for me. I’m not included in that group).
I see that this book is the first in a series, and it makes me wonder who the next book will be about? Fletch and Bea’s pairing was hinted, but I also sensed something between Wade and Gabe. Or it could be someone else. Either way, I’m excited to see!
Landon used to be pro hockey's golden boy until not so PG pictures of him ended up online. The fallout cost him respect, dating prospects, and a chance at the Stanley Cup. Hoping to put it behind him, and bring life back to his NFL career, his agent hires the best attorney in the city, Indira Dave.
But it turns out Indi and Landon already have a history and working together is the last thing Indi wants to do. But after a shared bottle of red wine, they come up with an interesting proposition. No strings attached fun with some rules, and absolutely no feelings. But the more Landon proves he’s still the boy Indi adored in childhood, the less control she has over what her heart wants.
Ugh! The banter! The spice! The emotions! I will be real with you, this was a long book, especially for a hockey romance but I ate up every single bit.
I loved the characters so much. Landon is THE golden retriever; sweet, loyal, energetic, and fun. He knows from the start he wants Indi in every way and he is just patiently waiting for her to catch up. I love a man down bad and trust me, Landon was DOWN BAD.
Indi is everything. Confident, accomplished and sassy, but she's aware of how her past has impacted her. Her relationships with her family and friends were great to read about because it allowed me to see past the tough lawyer exterior she put up. She also makes Landon beg. And she spits wine in his mouth. And she wears his jersey. And is just generally hot and amazing.
The two of them together were like watching a real couple fall in love. So many funny moments but also tender, deep, and sweet moments. They were also just so hot together?? I loved their shared history and it made their connection feel that much deeper.
I was so sad to end this book and I am SO excited for the next books in the series. Go check out Ruby's latest post with the tropes because WOWEE we are in for some treats next year.
Tropes: - Desi Representation - GrumpyxSunshine (reversed) - Hockey - LawyerxHockey star - Childhood crush to lovers
Where to even begin?! This amazing book follows the lives of two individuals who, once in middle schools, were friends and even played for the same hockey team. Indi wasn't so popular and sadly didn't fit in with the other girls, whereas Landon was the polar opposite. Unfortunately, a misunderstanding breaks up their friendship, and they go their separate ways. Now, here we are, 15 years later, and Landon is the golden boy of Hockey, and Indi has become the youngest ever lawyer in the supreme courts. Landon is in trouble. He needs the best lawyer money can buy. Yep, you guessed it. That person is Indi.
This book was sooooo good! I loved both of the main characters from beginning to end.
Landon isn't your typical bad boy hockey player. He gives off major golden retriever energy. He is seriously loved by everyone and wants to just play hockey. It is so funny how bent out of shape he gets when Indi gives as good as she gets. He treated her with so much care and love. It made me smile just reading it!
Indi is more of the grumpy in the relationship. This is actually understandable once you read about what she's gone through with the men she's dated or just the men in her past in general. For everything Landon does, Indi does it better 10 times better! She was such a boss, babe, and I loved her for it!
Oh, and can we talk about the parents?! I loved them all so much! I want to be them when I grow up 😂. Also, there is an elite group of friends who would do anything for each other (even stop a potential hook up session because a friends car has broken down 👀) if you loved the girls from the Twisted Series, you'll love this bunch!
Thank you Ruby for sending me an ARC for an honest review 💕
