You know, life is funny sometimes. When I stumbled across a strange weather phenomenon in the middle of the woods, I could have sworn that it was just a prank from one of my friends. But the truth was, it was a portal, and as soon as I touched it I found myself in a new world, one filled with orcs and elves and most notably, goblins. The breathtaking beauty of the goblin women was something I never would have expected, but hey. Learn something new every day.
They had a problem, though. A serious problem. Vogrim, a minotaur sorcerer, plans on eradicating the entire goblin race as his first step to conquering the world, and so far, his progress seemed unstoppable. In fact, the reason the goblin people had brought me to their world was to save them from imminent disaster.
In fighting a ten-foot-tall minotaur sorcerer, I had my work cut out for me. But first, they needed me to help repopulate.
This one started off pretty good and I thought it would end up a 4 star book. Guy goes through a portal to another world and is told he is supposed to save them. Pretty standard but still pretty good. He is supposed to save the race of goblins. I couldn't picture them as goblins though. I pictured them as green skinned elves. The way they were described was nothing like the goblin race I have read about in other books. I wouldn't go so far as to say this was annoying but it was an odd choice. Why pick the goblin race and then change everything about that race to resemble another one. The other things that didn't quite work for me was the slice of life aspect. I do enjoy slice of life stories but I had a hard to thinking of this as that type of story. The MC has to come to this world and they need him to have sex with as many goblin women as he can since there is an evil minotaur sorcerer that cast a spell to make all the goblin men sterile. On top of that, the MC will need to fight in a war to save the goblins, learn magic and bring technical advancement to this world. With all those goals I don't know how the author thought this was a slice of life story. That didn't make it bad, I just thought it was a weird choice. I did enjoy the first half of the book but my enjoyment started to fade in the second half.
Main character is very stupid, thinks with his dick a lot, and is a massive simp (like seriously, you know you can say no to beautiful women right?). If the girl is hot he's instantly willing to die/kill for her which I thought was pretty pathetic. Also, what is with the main girls' ego? Like I get it, they're hot. But seriously they're making him a) save their entire species b) kill an insanely powerful sorcerer that no one has ever come close to beating and c) have all these amazing personal qualities and treat them like goddesses. Jesus dude, no one is hot enough to get away with that shit. There's literally hundreds of insanely hot women who have way lower (read: reasonable) standards, I have no idea why he's so hung up on these three terrible people. Seriously, the "earning love" trope is sooooo toxic.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Not what I expected since they are not really goblins just green busty elves. So the one premise that drew me to the book wasn't even utilized. I'm sure it's a fine book but I'm just disappointing. I mean why bother with goblins if you are not going to commit and just make another normy harem fantasy?
Andrew Jones is hiking in Florida when he steps through a magical portal and arrives in another world. The Goblin wizard Ulenor, who summoned him explains that an evil sorcerer named Vogrim has used clouds of poisoned rain to render the Goblin male population impotent and sterile but leaving the women unaffected (presumably because he has other plans for them). Facing extinction and surrounded by hostile races, the Goblins need Andrew to impregnate as many Goblin women as possible to produce a generation of taller and stronger children who will be immune from the poisoned rain. He also has to collect a series of magical items from across the land in order to defeat Vogrim and his army once and for all.
If your reaction to this premise is to sneer or roll your eyes, then this story, and the subgenre to which it belongs, probably aren’t for you.
Goblin Breeder is a harem fantasy blending action & adventure with male fantasies about being the object of sexual attention of countless beautiful women. I bought this eBook on a whim because I wanted something new to read and thought I'd try a genre I hadn't engaged with before. I’d read several reviews of other harem fantasy stories and had serious reservations about what I’d find, which makes me all the gladder that Goblin Breeder is my first taste of the harem fantasy subgenre, because it avoids all of the traps that I feared it would fall into.
The Protagonist Is Interesting
Andrew Jones is an everyman who I found to be likeable and compelling as a main character. He’s neither an unattractive wimp suddenly surrounded by busty beauties who inexplicably lust after him – I’m so sick of that trope in anime – nor an alpha Mary Sue who’s spectacularly well-endowed in every sense of the term. As it happens, he is stronger and better endowed than his Goblin hosts, but that’s because the average Goblin is less than five feet tall.
He’s also given magic powers thanks to a special potion, but he has to learn to use those powers over a time. He’s smart, resourceful, and committed to the daunting tasks set for him, and he also brings with him a headful of knowledge about technology from the real world which will revolutionise Goblin society; but he’s also fallible, needs help from others, and can be injured, sometimes quite seriously, which makes you all the more invested in his success.
The Male Side Characters Aren’t Pussies
Being a harem fantasy, there really is only room for one major male character, but whereas lesser stories would put down any other male characters to ensure they don’t threaten the MC, Goblin Breeder uses its cast of male side characters to complement the MC, making for a much better story as a result.
Ulenor, the wizard who brought the MC to their world, acts as a mentor and confidant, teaching him how to use his newly acquired magical powers, helping him to enhance his weapons and armour, and providing wisdom and guidance along the way. We also get hints of his painful past and, through him, the toll that Vogrim’s infertility rain has taken on Goblin society. The story doesn’t dwell on it too much, but the impact on the Goblin people of five years with no births and no ability of the Goblin men to perform sexually isn’t glossed over either. I suspect that other, lesser harem fantasies wouldn’t even bother to allude to these consequences.
There’s also Nerras, a Goblin soldier who befriends Andrew and trains him to fight with sword and spear, frequently besting in him sparring matches while also helping him to improve and professionalise the pacifist Goblin people’s meagre military. Nerras suffers from the same impotence and infertility as the other Goblin men, but it doesn’t lessen him as a character, and he serves as a strong complement to the MC, even though he’s come to do to their women what the Goblin men can’t.
The Female Characters Aren’t (just) Sex Objects
Of course the women are sex objects, just look at the front cover! If you find that off-putting, then you’re in the wrong category. Having said that, Goblin Breeder does itself and the readers a tremendous service by making its female characters well rounded in places other than their chests and backsides. Given the premise of the story, this would be the easiest trap of all to fall into, but the author gives us female side characters who complement the MC just as well as the men do and are more than just their tits and ass, curvaceous though those are.
For one thing, they don’t immediately throw themselves at him when he arrives in their world. Indeed, when the three women pre-selected to be his brides, the “Mothers of a New Age”, are presented to him, Andrew quickly realises that they’re actually terrified. They don’t know anything about this six-foot tall, pink-skinned alien from another world; in fact, before they laid eyes on him, he might have turned out to be a hideous monster or an abusive brute. And yet these three women still volunteered to be the first to sleep with him to make sure that he’s safe for all the other women, and to sacrifice themselves if he wasn’t.
Andrew sits down with the three women and goes out of his way to assuage their fears. They then have a light-hearted foursome which serves as the inaugural sex scene of the story, after which the women start to warm up to him. Once word gets around that the sexual saviour of the Goblins is also a decent man, that’s when the women start to throw themselves at him. Cirro, the green-haired Goblin woman on the front cover, is one of the three Mothers of a New Age, and the one who takes the quickest liking to him.
On a related note, the sex scenes are written for maximum titillation (does it matter if the pun is intentional?) and fine to read. There isn’t much else to say about these scenes, except to say that the MC has other tasks to busy himself with besides procreation. There is that one scene when Andrew arrives in the capital city for a one-week visit and is given a hero’s welcome; a random Goblin woman climbs onto the wagon and Andrew publicly mates with her in the back of the still-moving wagon while the adoring crowds cheer him on. That was a fun scene to read, especially when the satisfied and grateful woman is feted like a heroine herself.
The Story Isn’t “Gamified”
Being a lit-RPG, it would be very easy to transpose video game mechanics into the story with a contrived points system and skill tree through which the MC has to level up, but Goblin Breeder wisely eschews that temptation. You can certainly see the video game elements in the background, like how the MC acquires magical powers or enhances his armour and weapons, but everything is presented in a way that makes sense within a fantasy setting. It emphasises the “lit” and downplays the “RPG”, and this makes for a better fantasy story.
The Fantasy Part Actually Matters
Speaking of fantasy stories, my biggest concern was that the fantasy part would be no more than an afterthought, a superficial backdrop to a story about an ordinary man doing nothing but having sex with gorgeous, green-skinned beauties for several hundred pages. Thankfully, the author puts real effort into the worldbuilding aspect, sketching a believable fantasy world that feels lived-in and compelling. The execution of the worldbuilding is also very well handled. The reader is spoon fed enough information about the history and lore as and when it’s needed without being overloaded with irrelevant details that will be promptly forgotten.
This aspect matters because it buttresses what would otherwise devolve into a tedious string of orgies with a big fight scene at the end. The worldbuilding not only makes the story more than just its erotic premise but provides believable answers to questions that might otherwise prove fatal to the premise. For example, the Goblins are enemies with the other races, some of whom are aligned with the evil sorcerer Vogrim, which explains why they couldn’t recruit a breeder from one of those races. These and other potential plot holes are competently filled thanks to the time and effort put into the fantasy aspect of this harem fantasy.
Needs a Proofread, But Still a Solid Story
I breezed through the book in a few days, which should tell you how much I enjoyed reading it, but unfortunately, I can’t give it five stars. I counted half a dozen typos as well as numerous instances in which two paragraphs were stuck together without an empty line to separate them, a bizarre formatting error that can be fixed with a single tap of the return key. I also don’t understand why the author habitually ends a chapter and begins a new one in the middle of a scene when nothing of significance has yet happened to justify a new chapter.
There are also cases where Goblin characters use colloquial American speech even though the MC, being from Florida, is the only one who would talk that way. It’s not a huge problem but it does take you out of the story a bit. All of these problems could have been fixed in a single proofread, and they take some of the shine off of what is otherwise a very enjoyable story.
As I type this review, I’ve already finished reading four of the five books in this series, and I look forward to the final instalment which will be released on 8th April.
I wanted to be able to rate this higher, but the book really falls flat. The isekai premise is ok, if a little rushed. The main character is meh, really he gives off 'nice guy' incel vibes more than anything. The female love interests are flat as cardboard personality wise and really are uninteresting (in fact, the most interesting ones are side characters, that give off more personality and likability in the few pages they are one vs the 3 main ones). The main redeeming feature is the male goblin side characters, they are decently written and at least are competent at what they do.
I wish I could say that the sex scenes redeemed it, but that would be a lie. They were all very monotonous and repetitive. Also some terrible metaphors were used (a lamprey is probably one of the least sexy animals I could think of and has no place in spice scenes). Additionally, there were some typos and formating errors throughout the book.
That all being said, the story and the world are interesting, and it was a quick and light read. I finished it in under 2 days of light reading. Having decided to give the series a full chance, I did continue onto the second book, and things have picked up, which is good at least.
I discovered Goblin Breeder while browsing Isekai and slice-of-life indie titles, and it was a delightful surprise! As someone new to the spicy fantasy genre, I appreciated the unique blend of slice-of-life moments, action-packed battles, and steamy scenes. What struck me most was the book's refreshing take on spicy content with the male reader demographic in mind - a rarity in the literary world, at least. The author skillfully balances genres, crafting an engaging narrative. Overall, Goblin Breeder was an enjoyable read. I'm eager to explore more titles from this author and similar spicy fantasy books.
Andrew Jones a average human is out enjoying his motorcross bike in the wilds when he finds a portal
Andrew Jones is out enjoying his motorcross bike in the wilds of Florida where he lived . This weekend he ran across a portal that shouldn't be there for there wasn't any magic on earth how was it possible to exist . He curious nature got him transported to a different world full of goblins society almost similar to earth . He was deliberately targeted not an accident for he had unique qualities the sender was looking for . recommend reading excellent book .
This is a book written for men by a man….there is not nearly the spice that Reddit claimed there would be. This man with no prospects has a conqueror complex who enjoys people fawning over him at every moment. He believes that he is a man of the people and a pacifist at heart, yet yearns for the blood of the enemies of his newly found peaceful people. Disrespectful and distasteful to say the least. Almost a DNF, but my reading challenge was more important.
A really fun read that is not filled with useless techno-babble. It not overwhelmingly dark in nature nor does every page fill like the world is ending. The writer takes a desperate situation and fills it with positive energy and a positive outlook which keeps the reader looking forward to the future. Very finely crafted writing. The characters are an absolute joy to be around.
Andrew is a mid-twenties veteran tooling around on his dirt bike when he encounters what appears to be a portal. Yes, the young man sows a lot of oats, but that was expected from the title. What was unexpected was his quest to help save the goblins would resonate so deeply within himself. Enjoyed.
A former Army Man trying to figure out what he wants to do with his life suddenly finds himself in a new world filled with beautiful women and dangerous enemies. The book has a nice pacing. Detailed at times and other times moving the plot along so you aren’t bogged down in the details. Yes I said that on purpose. By the end the characters feel real and like friends. Great job Micky. Looking forward to the next book.
All around enjoyable book. Similar story beginning. Human transported to a new world. Except this one takes a slight detour which makes it even more enjoyable. Definitely interested in more from this author and hope to read many more books in this series. Next one can’t come soon enough.
Fun story with a man out of his element and into a mess. Asked to breed with beautiful goblins to help restore the population caused by an evil wizards curse. Fighting against minotaurs, orcs and lizardpeople he has to save the city. Now he needs to attack the wizard.
This was one of the easiest books I've ever read. It didn't take long for me to become very interested in the story. I found it to be a very interesting plot story, if not a bit farfetched. Andrew may be young, but any man who is given this task will need the help of some type of magic. Hope the next book is just as good!
This is a new take on the Connecticut Yankee but could have more of that vein and less harem adventure. The harem adventures are good, but, am I really saying this, almost too much.😁 A bit more of the self sufficient Ranger would have made this book a 5. Maybe it is better than 4 but it is not quite a 5.
In case the covers that all the series this author puts out wasn't enough of an indicator, this author doesn't have much to say aside from 'big booba' and 'horny woman'. There might be a story here, but I can't get over how wish fullily the initial chapters are.
If the above doesn't bother you it maybe worth a try.
This was a really great story that will keep you entertained. The character building is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. This book kept me glued till the end and I can’t wait to read the rest in the series. Give it a chance and I think you will really enjoy this sexy, steamy, funny adventure.
This series REALLY lives up to its name. Breeding happens a lot in this book. Though its a harem series, the main love interests of the MC make blatantly apparent that being with other women is crucial. This leads to a lot of intimate moments in the book. Its very entertaining though and I will be continuing to the next book immediately.
Very good read! I really enjoyed reading the adventures of Andrew and his 3 Goblin women. Hopefully he will be able to keep his word about freeing the Goblins from their oppressor.
I enjoyed reading this story and look forward to reading the rest. The characters are heartwarming, and the world they live in sounds great. Thank you for sharing it with me.
Plenty of action, romance and story. The plot is simple and the story flows well. Though it follows the usual Isekai theme, it is refreshing to have a main character that is relatable. I can’t wait to crack open the next book in the series!
First dip into HaremFantasy LiteRPG. Really enjoyed the book. There was some gramatical errors here and there but not to many. Liked the characters and the fact that the book had a story line that wasnt just all smut. I will be reading the next few books shortly
The story was kind of slow, but the characters were great! I really fell for them the author did a great job in making characters you wanted to spend time with and get to know better. I enjoyed the read.
The story is mild fantasy iseaki but the porn was just layered on to thick that any real plot points in book became secound Fidel to the author’s whims.
This was great in some places and not so great in others. The premise was great for me but I didn’t like the main character and because of that it just didn’t work for me.
