Carol Cox has an abiding love for history and romance, especially when it’s set in her native Southwest. As a third-generation Arizonan, she takes a keen interest in the Old West and hopes to make it live again in the hearts of her readers. A pastor’s wife, Carol lives with her husband and daughter in northern Arizona, where the deer and the antelope really do play—within view of the family’s front porch.
So excited to read all of the “Fair Series” Book one got me hooked and i was amazed at how the great author really has a knack for drawing you in as she details the history of the era in which the story takes place! Love the romance and young Christian’s love that blossoms between the characters… I was impressed by the action and intrigue in this one and book 3!
Mrs Purvis is a unique character and her quirkiness is well written - you certainly get to know and love her as the book and the rest of the series unfolds! Hope ya’all enjoy this great author as read all 3 in the series!
It was really good! Light romance, intrigue, and historically interesting! This author really succeeded with this book! I loved the characters, who were so real, and the setting of the story was educational as well as enjoyable to read about.
Emily watching the fairgoers on the plaza, a commotion shifted her attention to a trouble maker running. Growing up in an orphanage she knew how to stop him. It was all over a box of cracker jack’s. Which caused her to be lectured on being three minutes tardy back at work. As the receptionist, they often had missing children brought in. This three year old boy, people around said the mother went off running. Evening they only had this little boy Adam, guard had brought him in and no information Slipping him out and taking him with them to the boarding house they felt better than an orphanage. With Stephen the guard and with Adams few words they try to find her. This leds into intrigue and a romance for them. Good light mystery and one little boy. Enjoyable and interesting about the fair, and following book two which was good.
This might be my favorite of the three books in this series, primarily because of Adam. Readers of the previous books have already "met" Stephen Bridger, one of the Columbian Guards at the Worlds Fair. He is smitten when he meets Emily Ralston, the receptionist at the children's center. Emily and her best friend Lucy work there and live at the boardinghouse owned by Mrs. Purvis, who is always open to a bit of matchmaking. There is mystery, faith, and romance in this very entertaining book. I'm a little sad this series is finished. It would be good to have a match for Lucy, though we are given a hint of what could be in store for her.
Always enjoy learning something new about history and this historical suspense and romance surrounds the Chicago World's Fair circa 1900. Impressed on how detailed the description was on the fair's events all wrapped up in a murder mystery leading into a romance between the main characters with a little boy's future in the midst. Maintained my interest throughout and recommended for all ages who enjoy this combined genre.
Another enjoyable read! The setting at the 1893 Worlds Fair was inspired. I think I enjoyed it as much as the storyline. I googled images of the World Fair 1893 & was shocked at how many pictures existed. A book that has the ability to take you to an earlier time & place & make you really wish you could be there is a work of art. I look forward to reading more by this author.
We loved all the history contained in this novel covering the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. As the previous books in this A Fair to Remember Series, the mystery was full of intrigue and sweet romance.
A fitting end to this delightful series set at the Chicago's World Fair. The great mystery was solved for Mrs. Purvis, the bad guy was appropriately taken care of, and all ended happily ever after.
This is absolutely one of the best books that I have ever read in my entire life so far. A Bride So Fair by Carol Cox is the first work of Carol Cox's that I have had the privilege to read, but I'm excited now about finding more from her.
First off, of the edition that I have, I love the cover of the girl looking off in the distance holding the quilt, it is just beautiful! The other cover edition I've seen, with the main characters standing there, well it's okay, but not as fabulous as this one with the purple.
This story was so hard to put down. I have a lot to read, so I figured I'd start this one and get through a couple chapters if I could. Well, next thing I knew I was half way through and unwilling to stop. Then I'm at the part where my heart is beating so fast I can hardly contain myself and I have no idea what is going to happen or how things can be fixed, and then my husband gets home... *sigh* So, I had to stop make his dinner, eat mine, and then I'm back on the couch reading as fast as my eyes will let me and my mind is comprehending. Then I realize I'm going too fast and have to re-read a couple of passages, but then I have my good rate back. *sigh*
Such a fabulous story! There is a mix of romance, and intrigue, and pure suspense. This story is unlike anything that I have read, but at the same time there are smidgens of little things that make my mind tangent off to something else I once loved. Such as: Anne of Green Gables the Continuing Story, much of Anne I see in Emily, and of course Dominique in Adam. Then there is a hint of the fast paced "Oh my goodness, he is so evil! What can possibly happen?!?!" that I felt from Tracie Peterson's Yukon Quest series.
If you want romance, it's here. History, got it. Mystery, oh definitely with plenty of cozy suspense. Really, I cannot urge you to read this book enough. DO IT!
This setting for this was the world fair at the turn of the century in Chicago. The story followed a young orphan girl with her first job as the fair's children center. She is given the charge of a young man (three years old) that is considered lost, but the parent never come to claim him. I enjoyed the book, I thought it was interesting.
